As a novice photographer, I did research looking for a decent Canon Telephoto lens to take on Safari in Africa. Not wanting to drain a bank account or take out another mortgage to pay for one, I found this EF100-400! It was fantastic. I returned with fantastic wildlife photos and room to learn more in my newest passion for photography!

I've been using this lens for almost 4 years now and I must say, this is good for wildlife, nature, flower and even portrait photography. Yes, better late than never review! From the get go, I have used it for portrait shots at the almost long end. The reason is the longer the focal length the better "bokeh." The IS of this lens is good and also good for tracking birds. I don't really use 10 fps for my Canon 7D Mark II but when you know what your doing, the camera and the lens will do the rest. As for macro shots,(it cannot substitute a macro lens), I have the ability to go 400mm and not to worry about your shadow and I can crop the image later on. This is a fun lens to use most specially wildlife. This is a sharp lens but of course it is not on par with the 400mm primes but for the fraction of the price and weight, I have no complains. In terms of low light capability, it is good still but not that great, I could see some noise during the sunset but it's still manageable. If compared to the Canon 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM II, I prefer the 100-400mm due to the reach but in low light, surely the winner is the f2.8. But if you're mostly shooting in daylight, you can't go wrong with this. This is a well justified cost of a lens! I just wish they made it like the Sony 200-600 as the barrel does not zoom in or out. For a Canon shooter like me, it is worth the money! I give a 5 stars for the performance!

I am not a great photographer but since everybody nowadays with a nice DSLR camera acts like know what they are doing I act like one too. BUT, this lens gave me so many great shots that even my most experienced semi-pro and pro photographer friends praised my shots. If you're in to wildlife or sports kind of action photography get one. Yes it's pricey but it worth every penny!

I know thinking this lens is underpriced seems foolish for how much you paid for it, but it is amazing. I take wildlife photography and photography of my two little girls running or playing sports or just sitting outside. I have never been more pleased with the quality of picture this lens is capable of. Ithe is a must have if you sit in the stands (hunting or cheering).

I've rented the predecessor, and really enjoyed it. I'm absolutely obsessed with this updated version. The various image stabilization modes allow for action shots and stills with extreme clarity. In addition to far-off subjects, it has a soft image with sharp focus of close subjects. I would recommend to anyone who wants to upgrade their lens collection.

I would recommend this lens to anyone that wants to take their photography to the next level. I couldn't be anymore satisfied with my purchase of this lens.

I searched and researched for a long time to figure out which lens I wanted to upgrade for use on wildlife and landscape. This lens came out last fall and other professional users have been favorable in their reviews. I have not been disappointed. It is crisp, clear and responds nicely. The weight is not a factor for me in handheld shots as it has the IS. Overall, in the short time I have had it I am quite pleased with the lens and its performance.

I am fairly new to photography, but quickly learned that I needed a telephoto lens of this caliber if I wanted to consistently take great nature shots. I have not been disappointed. It takes a bit of getting used to, but tracks well, takes sharp photos, and is easy to carry. Love this lens.

I am using this lens with an adaptor for Canon eos r for bird and wildlife photography. The auto focus works perfectly. Not as fast as RF lenses but it is sharp and fast enough for my photography as a serious hobby. I have seen many professionals using this lens so it always speaks for itself.
