    Like all Canon lenses....the quality is good. However performance is probably the same as the old non-IS 35mm f2. The only reason to buy is the 2-3 extra stops you get with the IS which is great in low light situations.

    I like this lens, I think anyone just starting out with photography will be happy with it...maybe even love it when compared to a kit lens. However, If I’m completely honest, I regret not spending the money on the f/ 1.4. When I first purchased this lens I used it “here and there” but never for an entire photography session. happy with it. Once I sat down and really studied the images, I just didn’t find that I loved them compared to some of the other lenses that I own. It’s not as sharp. I think if you are a hobbyist or just want a lens to click some pics of the fam, you will like it. If you are hard-core or professional, don’t try and cheap out and buy this lens - big mistake. If you can afford it, get the 1.4 and if you can’t, save. Nothing terrible about it but definitely underwhelming if you have other high-quality lenses in your bag. So there - great for entry level (maybe even amazing), bad for those who have used other quality lenses.
