    Canon 70 – 300mm f/4 -5.6 IS II USM

The Canon 70 – 300mm f/4 -5.6 IS II USM features a nice build and contemporary sleek design with a little LCD screen for information on focal length, etc. (depending on settings). The Image Stabilization and especially the almost instantaneous auto focus are excellent. At wide open apertures, the pictures might appear slightly soft in the center of the frame. Overall, the optical quality is what can be expected in this price range. On a crop sensor DSLR the 70-300mm focal length range provides a 112 mm to 480mm-equivalent angle of view, making this lens great for big outdoor sports fields, more distant wildlife or zoos with large habitats, as well as airplanes and such. Weighing 1.6 lb (710 g), the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM is in comparison lighter than the TAMRON 70 – 300mm f/4 -5.6 VC USD with 1.7 lb (765 g), for example. However, on an objective scale the Canon lens still is a fairly heavy lens to carry around. The Canon 70 – 300mm f/4 -5.6 IS II USM is a reasonably priced lens with a very useful focal length range, featuring Image Stabilization and instantaneous auto focus in a - by comparison - small and light weight package. Highly recommended.

    Excellent Buy for the Money!!

I purchased this lens a couple months ago and just used on a trip to St. Maarten. I own a couple L lenses and this lens holds its own quite well. The auto focus is instant and accurate and the photos are very sharp. Chromatic aberration is held to a minimum, colors are bright vibrant .. the build quality is pretty good, not quite L quality (but it doesn't cost L money either!!) I couldn't be more impressed .. Great images through out the zoom range .. If you're looking for a really good lens, at a good price, that focuses at an incredibly fast speed .. you're looking in the right place. If it came with a lens hood it would be the perfect buy!!

I got this lens to shoot my kids sports games. I can usually get close enough for the kit lens that came with the camera. But for those times that I can't this is a lens that gets me close enough to get a great shot. The price was great and the build is awesome for a father who likes to take pictures. I would have gave it 5 stars but it is not great for night games. I higher Fstop would give it 5 stars. However the better lens costs way more than I could spend at the time. I will look into that lens in the future as I need it.

I recently bought this lens to replace my old lens of the same size. My old one had been having issues so I needed a new one. I really like the improvement in this lens, it's much faster to focus and I can reach out in distance than my old lens. I think this lens for what it is, does really well and the photos it takes are really nice. This is a good lens if you need to cover some distance, and don't have a lot of money to spend.

    Canon's latest 70-300mm is a winner

This lens is the best version of Canon's 70-300 series yet. It is the fastest and quietest focusing, it has shortest minimum focus distance, and the glass is the best thus far as well. It is quite a bit sharper than past models as well. I do think the LCD status window is very gimmicky - unless you are using this on a tripod and in Live View, it is absolutely worthless. I wish they omitted and drop 50 bucks from the price.

the lens had a lot of chromatic abberations, when shooting a distant bird or moon etc. Best buy said that it was not a one off faulty lens that i got, all lenses of this series have chromatic abberations. They charged me $75 restocking fee when i returned it coz i didnt like the results. Only buy if you are just using it as a hobbist and don't care much about the abberations

    GREAT TELEPHOTO LENS!

Bought this lens to go on a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park and got some great photos! This lens is a bargain for the price especially since it has "NANO" USM that not even the L lens version has. The built in LCD screen is also cool but not needed. One cool feature of the LCD is that if you're on a crop camera such as a Rebel or 00D, etc. series, on the LCD it will show you 112-480mm rather than 70-300!

This lens takes sharp, vivid pictures and has a good IS. I use it on a T2i. I couldn't find anything wrong with it yet. I believe this worth the extra money. I would recommend to buy it. I have this lens for over a month. I got this for the exchange of the Canon - EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM which has weak picture quality and the IS is not so great, I wouldn't recommend to buy it. I had two copies and both had the same issues.

I'm very pleased with this lens and it produces very sharp and crisp images. My camera body is a Rebel T3i and I decided to invest money into good quality, affordable lenses. The first outing with this lens was to a botanical garden/zoo and the images noticeably better than my 55-250 I used previously. With an APS-C sensor, this gives the equiv of 480mm and a very good reach.

Kinda pricy but worth it would be a excellent lens for side line sports shooters who have early evening games or late morning/early evening wild life shooters on a crop sensor body because as long as you keep the zoom range in the f4 aperature you'll still be able to keep a decent enough shutter speed for moving objects and it gives you the 1.6 magnification so your range will be better than that on a full frame.

For many enthusiasts the price range of high end Telephoto lenses are too expensive, and often to heavy & bulky to carry around. The new Canon 70-300 USM ii is a reliable, light telephoto perfect for walkaround hikes, trips to the zoo, etc. It does suffer in low light, however, and will require adjustments on your camera to compensate for it. Overall quick to focus & reasonably sharp for its class

I use this on the 5D Mark IV. It’s a good lens. Not too heavy and the photos are pretty sharp. It’s not “L” glass and definitely sometime you can feel that difference if you have any prime lenses but for this price you really can’t go wrong. It’s a nice sturdy build, with really good focus speed. I would recommend to anyone who wants that extra reach for a lighter price tag.

I was looking for a zoom lens for my two daughters' college graduations. This lens was great for the one outdoors. I got great close ups of her receiving her "diploma". The daughter's that was inside was also good. I think I need to get a better camera due to lighting (or learn how to use the old one I have better)

A great lens for an intermediate to professional photographer. The IS facilitates clearer images. It's a heavy lens, yet very sturdy. Used in both AF and MF modes. Images from both were stellar. It has become one of my go-to lens.

I purchased this lens a couple of weeks ago because I needed a better zoom lens to photograph my daughter's lacrosse games. So far, I really like it! The pictures are crisp and the zoom @ 300 is so much better than my other lens. I am also happy with how it shoots in low light/night situations. This is an amazing mid level lens!

read reviews in photo mags, as there were no product reviews. A Christmas present to myself - and so far pleased with the results,. So much better photo clarity than the 70-300 mm kit lens that came with my Canon T5. I am not a professional photographer, just enjoy taking photos

After reading & watching reviews, I decided to purchase this lens and I'm glad I did. The stabilization is amazing. Pics are sharp. I'd had loved to be able to afford the L series, but I have zero regrets about this lens. The lcd on top is kind of a gimmick but the stabilization & focusing are fast.

I purchased this to replace a Tamron lens that was having problems, lens errors anytime zoomed to long range. This lens focuses very quickly and VERY quietly. I've used on Canon EOS 3 film camera and 60D, 5D Mk III, no issues on any camera so far. Just wish it came with lens hood and case.

This glass has the reach and flexibility needed to capture sporting events from football to car races. I highly recommend getting a circular polarizing filter and lens hood to use with the lens. Works well in bright light situations.

Photography is a hobby, not a job, for me but I still purchased as the lenses that came with the camera I have (Rebel T5) just weren’t allowing me to fulfill my potential. This camera is great for a beginner learning the ways with room to grow.
