    Battery

We just used this camera for the first time and were happily surprised at how easy it was to operate and how great the pictures turned out. There are a variety of picture and video options, which allowed us to do everything we wanted. The only drawback is the battery life is a little shorter than we would have hoped for. Luckily, we were aware of this issue and had a backup battery.

Having shot professionally for a number of years, I recently sold my Canon gear (5d bodies, L lenses, etc.). Photography is fun again with this small camera - I really don't want to lug around large camera bodies and lenses anymore! The lenses auto focus ability is superior with the mirrorless system - no more need to calibrate the lenses to the mirror-type focus system (AF Micro adjustment). I must admit, the image quality, even with the kit lenses is terrific. Of course without weather sealing and premium (L) lenses, one is limited. However, I have printed large format photos that only a professional would be able to tell the difference (pro cameras and lenses) - and not always. The sensor is very good, the Digic 8 processor is outstanding. Using up to 1600 ISO often, the printed picture is just terrific and higher ISOs (a little work in Adobe Lightroom!) For the advanced shooters, the new cRaw format is great to expanded post processing. The kit lenses are very capable and are very sharp - especially the center. Of course, the kit lenses are pretty slow, so low light photos are going to require a higher ISO or flash. I used the 55-200 Zoom at a grandson's ball game with great results - up to 10 fps that is more than adequate to catch "just the right shot". The EVF works well in bright daylight. The battery is adequate, but just so. If traveling or videoing, a second battery is probably mandatory. The video function is great - I only use 1080p to be able to use dual pixel focus. My video is limited to grandkids school plays, so I can not provide a good opinion on the video capabilities for the VLoggers out there, but what I do turns out great. The audio preamp is quite good. I use a Rode VideoMicro and that works out great for sound quality - the external mic jack is a great feature on this camera. The camera is small, but easy to hold and is "carry all day" comfortable. I will add that I added a ef-m 22mm, f2 pancake lens - this little prime lens is reasonably fast and the image quality is very, very good and an ideal size when on the m50. Do I miss my pro equipment? Sure, sometimes, but I never miss lugging them around! For the casual shooters - travel, kids, etc. this is a very nice system, I think!

I wanted to get back into serious photography again, but was not sure how much I wanted to spend to get back in. When I saw this mirrorless unit available for a great price I decided to give it a shot. The first thing I noticed is that it has a similar OS as the rest of the Canon point and shoot line. Those in turn, came directly from the old AE1 and A1 cameras. The system is simple for former users, and would not confound a first time user. Canon has had the edge on user friendliness for 40 years, and it does not appear that they are ready to relinquish that lead soon. I still enjoy using manual modes at times, and having had experience in the manner in which Canon handles this, the whole experience was a breeze. Again, first timers who wish to go "off line" and try experimenting with manual, shutter or aperture priority modes will find this a pleasant surprise in ease of use. I was not disappointed in the image quality. Although it has a compact sensor, which I swore I was going to avoid, and requires an adapter to work with the entire line of Canon lenses, I was impressed. No flares, no distortion at the edges and a great deal of detail from the compact lenses. As a former professional, I am often discouraged by reviews of amateur equipment written by pros or former pros who somehow expect miracles at bargain prices. I came into this with an open mind, expecting to be underwhelmed after reading some low rated reviews, but I had an entirely opposite experience.

I am using this camera as a supplemental video recording and product picture device alongside a Professional Canon Camcorder (an XA40), this camera blends in perfectly at a fraction of the cost. There are a few things I don't like, such as the the video preview on the screen doesn't flip upside down until the screen is fully rotated. SO when the screen is facing you (the subject), but not vertical the image is upside down. Overall it's a super great camera for the budget price.

I’ve been using the camera to film vlogs for my YouTube channel. The versatile touch view screen is one of its best features. Also the on screen menu selections have useful prompts, and are so easy to understand. The photo and video capabilities are on point for a novice or expert photographer and/or videographer. The price point is very reasonable for a tool of this quality. I know I’m going to be enjoying this camera for many year to come. I can’t say enough good things about it. It’s a great camera!

The Canon M50 is very easy to use and takes great pictures. It’s smaller than I thought it would be (compared to a DSLR) but that makes it great for traveling and carrying around all day. With both lenses it can cover a variety of shots near and far. I usually shoot manual or aperture mode but this camera does a great job on auto mode for both photos and videos. Its built really well and the touch screen makes it real easy to make adjustments quick.

We have really enjoyed using this camera for different family events. It's easy to change it's zoom and to go from camera to video and a really cool feature it has is that you can be taking video and take a picture while taking the video at the same time. It has the ability for 4K video but it does take up a lot of space on the SD card and of course to view properly you'd need to have a 4K compatible devise or else the video skips and the pics are kind of blurry.

excellent camera if you know its limitations

    Posted .
    Pros mentioned:
    For video, Picture quality, Price

I truly love this camera. I did my research and considered a sony, panasonic, and this canon. I was upgrading from a canon t6, but did not mind the thought of a new ecosystem since I only had 3 lenses. In the end, this one me over. The phase detect AF is super quick as well as the burst picture speed. Picture quality is amazing with both of these lenses. I also got the mount adapter and my 50mm 1.8 also looks beautiful. The vari-angle screen, EVF, timelapse options, even the video is amazing (in 1080). I knew about the 4k limitations up front and wasn't concerned with them. The video quality from this camera with the right lenses in 1080p is amazing. I don't need 4k right now. If you do want 4k video, I'd say you really need to be looking at something else, but if that isn't a need for you right now, this is an amazing lightweight camera system. I consider it a steal for the price and the top of the line canon mirrorless currently. It may be missing a dial from the M5 or M6, but you can easily adjust almost anything on the touchscreen which makes up for it in my book. I couldn't be happier with my decision to purchase this camera. One other thing I would say, be cautious if you plan to use the adapter and ef or ef-s lenses. They add a lot of weight and make it very forward heavy. If that's not an issue for you, then go for it. The 50mm I tried gave me really nice shots compared to my T6.

I wanted to update my T2i since it's pretty old. I didn't want anything too advance, too heavy, or too noticeable. Canon M50 checked all my boxes and then some. It was the perfect upgrade. It has 4k video, swivel screen, it takes great quality photos, comes with two basic but still phenomenal lenses, it's light weight, and it's gets the job done when it comes to video and photo shoots. So far, no problems. Although, I do find the view finder features annoying at times. Other than that...I have no problems. Hopefully, I won't run into any!

I bought this camera (my first camera, actually) for a video production class in college & it has been my best friend ever since. I had no prior experience with cameras but this one was extremely easy to use, navigating settings is not a hassle, & the overall quality of the videos is amazing. The two lenses included help out getting different kinds of shots. The only thing I need to point out is that neither of them are fast lenses, meaning shooting in the dark is almost impossible. BUT I love this camera bundle so much. I definitely recommend it, whether you’re a beginner or experienced. ps the size of the camera is super convenient, especially if you have small hands like I do
