Customers find value in the EOS R Mirrorless 4K Video Camera's exceptional image quality, ease of use, and lightweight design. Many appreciate its impressive low-light performance and autofocus capabilities, although some users express disappointment with the single memory card slot and the touch bar functionality. This is quite an underrated machine. Yeah it’s a couple of years old but it still packs a punch. The firmware update greatly improved the eye/facial recognition. Autofocus is pretty fast, perfect ergonomics as well. Battery is backwards compatible with Canon’s trusted E6 series. Picture quality is outstanding.

I purchased this body to lighten up my bag a bit. The image quality out of it is excellent, the ergonomics, good! I’m still getting adjusted to the slide bar. If you’re used to back button focus and you have large hands, you’ll need to do some finger yoga. Low light performance is incredible. To get the best image quality in video, you’ll need superior lenses. Overall, I love it. In fact, I’m getting a second one this weekend as a backup.

It May Be A Little Dated But It Is A Great Camera!

This is the camera that I originally wanted. I could only afford the RP but I finally got the camera I wanted. The only differences I see between the R and the RP is more features on the R. The bigger battery, sensor cover, a few more megapixels, to mention a few. I only take pictures so I can't comment on the video side of either camera. The picture quality so far to date on either camera is great. One would be hard pressed to see a difference. One more feature is the guide for manually focusing. I really like that a lot as sometimes my eyes deceive me. All in all I am very happy with both cameras with the R being my main shooter and the RP being my backup or walk about camera because of its smaller size. I am not a professional. I do not have a need for the latest or greatest specs. Most don't! Spend your money on glass for your camera. Lenses are a bigger bang for the buck than any body. Learn your camera inside and out, the pros and the cons. The fun for me is figuring out how to take that impossible shot with what you got in your hand!

This camera was honestly great! A little better than your beginners camera, and has great quality along with also having the capability of shooting in 4K video. Shutter is a little louder than the R6 but in all reality is a great camera if you’re ready to jump the next step of a beginners camera!

A great option for Canon shooters going mirrorless

It's probably been beaten to death how the specs don't measure up to the competition. But, if you shoot Canon and want to go into the mirrorless realm, then it's a great camera. I've shot with Sony cameras before but the ease of use is on another level when you pick up a Canon camera. With the 1.4 update to the firmware, this camera is great for portrait photographers. The Eye Autofocus isn't as good as the a7iii but it is a lot better than the a7ii. For videoshooters, the 4k could be better (it has a 1.75x crop but you still have Dual Pixel AF) but the 1080p is fantastic on it and it has a flip screen if you like to vlog.

EOS R a Great Intro to Mirrorless Cameras

I was initially hesitant about the EOS R, primarily due to the crop factor in 4k. However, with the price of the body and the quality - as well as how infrequently 4k is actually necessary, I believe this camera is well worth it, especially if this is your first mirrorless.

My second Canon Mirrorless camera. Excellent full frame camera. Not as quick as my Canon 7D2 but is exceptional in low light situations. Just wish the R Lenses would drop in price!!

Not in love. While shooting the cameras ISO OFTEN jumps to 3200 and I am unsure how its happening but its happening while its on my shoulder. Super annoying to always have to readjust and just tells me there is a quick feature that is WAY too sensitive. The focusing options are not to my expectations, there is not enough control. Another thing that keep randomly turning on is the touch screen to take a shot, no matter how many times I turn it off it comes back on and when I touch the screen to adjust m focus.....CLICK. I'm about ready to go back to my Mark II, and sell this one for the higher series. Went cheaper, got what I paid for.....

This is not a technical review. It is the opinion of a Family/sports shooter with 40 years of various camera experience and 50,000+ photos.
The EOS R is different than the SLR or DSLR. Some good, some frustrating.
PROS
The basics you know still apply. Shutter, FStop, ISO
- Lens from your old Canon will (mostly) still work as well as the lens did on your old Canon.I saw no need to upgrade my lens.
- ISO performance is great with acceptable noise even at 10,000. 80D can't do that.
- Shots per second and shutter speed are mostly the same
- Still has the very useful articulated flip screen
- You can see menus and review pictures in the high res digital view finder. Very Nice!
- Almost every button is programmable. Geeks will like this.
- The grip is a little deeper on your finger tips so it is very nice to carry with one hand.
- A little lighter than the big DSLR cameras. If you want a large camera body to impress your friends, this is not it.
CONS
- Price. $2500 with the adapter. A big price for the new features but a Geek has to follow the technology. (wife does not agree)
- No flash. Just hot shoe. I miss the pop up flash. Even with impressive ISO, a quick flash is often helpful.
- The digital view finder can be annoying. Pop up reviews and sleep settings to preserve energy, waste valuable time between shots. A show stopper in sports photography. Turn those things off.
- Hours you will spend watching youtube videos to learn the menu system and make the camera your own. Just when you had learned your old Canon.
- Video is still doable, but they moved a very convenient button to a very inconvenient location. I just don't get it.
- A new touch bar that you drag your finger on or touch correctly to do what ever you program it to do. Guess I'll learn it but is weird for now.
- Just "feels" a bit slow when you move it from your lap to your eye to catch an interesting moment of action in the big game. The 80D may have the advantage so I set the EOS R view- finder to never sleep and auto focus always on so the camera is ready for action but using more battery full time. Best on a mono-pod kept at eye level to reduce the time between "I want the shot" to "I got the shot".
If you are a Nikon or Sony or Fugi user, Not worth the Switch.
I love Canon and have a bunch of Canon stuff so I'm ok with it.

As a long time Canon user, I'm happy to have this Eos R. From the get go, I feel at home as I'm familiar with the interface of Canon. The AF points covers more than the DSLR counter part and the touch focus makes it easier for me to compose my shot. Also the electronic viewfinder is beautiful, what you see is what you get. As an EF lenses collector, I had no trouble adapting to the Eos R, most specially the Canon 100mm f2.8 L IS USM, Canon 24-70mm f2.8 L USM. It takes beautiful pictures. My only disappointment is the touch bar. It is unresponsive, I wished they just add something different. Over all it does takes stunning photos.

I bought the EOS R with RF 35mm F1.8 as a light travel combination and used it for a trip to Japan and China. I love images from my 5D MkIV but it is pretty heavy to carry when I'm traveling on business. The combination works really well for me as I shoot urban landscapes and street mostly. The R+RF lens image quality is pretty close to what I get with my 5D MkIV and 35mm 1.4 lens. The quick adjustability is not as nice as the DSLR but I enjoy using the R's bright EVF and swivel screen since I'm an eyeglass wearer. The handling of the R is good with the small lens but not great balance with heavier lenses (I have mounted pro EF lenses using the adapter). Therefore, I'm still keeping the DSLR but I'm looking forward to other compact RF primes from Canon for times when I need something lighter.

Fantastic camera with a great senor. Unfortunately, after a half a year after purchasing the product, my LCD screen gave out without it having any damage. However I am getting it fixed through canon themselves because it does have a one year warranty. I used this camera paired with the 24-70mm ultrasonic lens for my professional photography and videography business. I fully recommend you getting this product for your professional use. I sat on this purchase for a year. After my recent professional headshot session, I am more than happy. Coming from a 5Dii I knew this would yield me an upgrade. But I didn’t expect how much greater it would make my old glass. Tack sharp and fun. Dig it. :)
Yeah, the Touch Bar is lame. Whatever. I bought a control ring adapter with it and I’m all good.

I was trying to upgrade my Camera Gears. So I was confused before ... I did a long research and finally, my research journey stoped at CANON EOS-R.
Photo Quality is incredibly sharp. For Vloggers & Wedding Videos this now comes with Canon C-logs.
Rotatable LCD is a great option for Vloggers to shoot themselves.
It has now an inbuilt LCD viewfinder... Now what you can see on your LCD, you can exactly see in your viewfinder...
This "R" series is the future of Canon Camera.
With RF lenses the quality & sharpness of your Photos will be on the next level.
I have no regret for this purchase.
I just love this Camera.
Sure recommend this to all professionals.

So happy that Canon finally came out with a full-frame mirrorless option. The controls are a little different from any other Canon camera I've used, so there's definitely a learning curve. But, I've been very happy with the quality of the photos I've taken. If you buy this in-store, check what items are available as a free bundle. When I bought it, the $100 lens adapter was free, which lets me use the camera with my EF lenses, but if you buy it in-store it doesn't automatically add it as a bundle and unless the sales associate knows about the deal, they won't know to do so and you'll miss out on a free item. Of course, if you order thru the website it's done for you.
