    INSANE

Was worried at first, not because of all the overheating talk online tho, I was worried that it wouldn't be worth upgrading over the Canon R that I had been using but this camera is insane. Literally when it comes to photography I can't think of a camera being better than this. It almost feels like cheating in a way, it feels so strange to hand hold a 5 second exposure and have it be sharp still, the lens stabilizer and the IBIS work together so well its honestly nuts. Auto focus is crazy good, the mechanical shutter sounds quiet, the view finder is very bright and sharp, you can also up the brightness on the veiwfinder now! which im not sure if i was able to do that on the R but im glad its in the camera regardless lol. Theres nothing to complain about when it comes to photography with this camera. Video is something i took into consideration as well, I mainly do photos but it is nice to also have my camera be my main video shooter when i need it to be. Not being able to record 8K video indefinitely is not a huge concern at all. I honestly feel that all the improvements of the Canon R to the R5 make up for the the 8K overheating. Also its a bit absurd to have 8K raw record capability in a tiny mirrorless body as it stand so the fact that we even have that option is kinda insane. The camera feels MILES better than the Canon R and I loved that camera, so anyone upgrading who is worried, you can rest assured that you will be getting your money's worth. ALSO if overheating is an issue and you need to record high quality video for the long period of time, the camera can record 4KHQ externally without any memory cards in the camera for up to 4 HOURS so like I feel like that eliminates anyone's worries about this not being a reliable video camera, 4 hours is plenty and if yours spending upwards of $5000 for a photo camera and you need it to preform like a cinema camera, spending another $600 for an Atomos Ninja 5 recorder seems very insignificant. but anyways yeah its a cool camera i guess, i like it.

I love the R5 and feel like I am good with a camera for a number of years now. I am an enthusiast photographer. I don't really do this as a job but more so as a (serious) hobby. I have a number of lenses, lighting, and an EOS R to do portraits here and there, but more so for fun. So I know a little but don't put a lot of emphasis on making money. The R5 is great in comparison to the EOS R (my previous camera). Dynamic range allows me to save shadows. I'm able to shoot in high ISO and am comfortable going as high as 12800 (with the R, I felt like I was pushing it at 6400). Auto focus is amazing as well, it just locks on the eye, be it human or bird. I do think it does miss sometimes, but not as much as the R (oh man, did the R have trouble a lot of times). And the 45mp gets very detailed images. All this combined with Canon's amazing RF 85mm 1.2 (only RF I own right now), and the picture quality is to die for. Using EF lenses (such as the 24-70mm 2.8, or the 40mm 2.8 pancake) works excellent as well, just not as sharp as that RF glass. But regardless, the images are great. In terms of ergonomics, this is essentially an R with additional buttons. It feels the same, but the additional buttons do make using the R5 a lot easier/quicker. Battery life is a bit low, which is one fault with the camera. Fortunately, I also have the grip and use two batteries (one new one, and one from the R), allowing me to not worry about battery life too much. But while I used it without the grip, I noticed the battery drained pretty quickly. Another fault is that I've noticed I do have a large number of hot pixels, which are readily apparent when I am taking a long exposure of a dark/black picture. I have about 10 hot pixels of red, white, and purple (?) colors. You can't really seem them at all in a normal picture, and reading about it online, it seems to be an expected issue with modern sensors, but the idea of having hot pixels, especially a couple weeks after use, does bother me. My EOS R, which I've used a couple of years does not have hot pixels. But again, they're not that apparent in pictures and you can fix them in PS. Overall, I love this camera and would recommend for Canon folks.

The only con is how expensive it is— but it’s worth the investment. Very fast, lightweight, easy to use, and the pictures are so crisp. The new focusing technology is very useful for fast paced shoots.

Originally bought the Canon EOS R100 and thats a good camera but I wanted something crisper and better in low light, this checked all my boxes. The biggest difference is that the r100 has a built in flash where the r5 requires a flash

I use the Canon R5 for my professional photography and it’s amazing. The photo quality is super sharp, the colors look great, and it works really well in low light. Autofocus is fast and accurate, especially with eye tracking — it makes my job easier. Video quality is also excellent. It’s easy to use, feels great in hand, and is built really well. Totally worth the money. Highly recommend it! Its survived my abuse

I owned a 5D Mark III which would be used as comparison to R5. I mainly take pictures at sporting events with the occasional prom, family, etc. I bought the R5 a few months ago and I'm still learning all the features. Here are a few things that I learned. 1. R5 uses a lot of battery. Put the camera away for 2-3 days, battery power empty. Unlike the 5D. For a full day sporting event, expect to use 1-3 batteries. Unlike the 5d, again. But I'm getting used to it. 2. At first my pictures (focus) didn't come out to be the same as 5D and I was beginning to regret my R5 purchase. Then I realized that the face detection was set on auto (by default). After changing that setting I was able to move around the focus area. 3. The weight and size reduction. 5D + EF 70-200 was heavy. Now it's R5 + RF 70-200 which is light and compact. I'm sure I'll learn about new features in the future. Enjoy your R5.

I am pleased with my purchase. My Canon R5 comes after a long run with my Canon 60D, a Canon XTi Rebel and several other digital and film cameras going back several decades. I am very pleased with the operation and quality of the photographs. I like higher resolution viewfinder. I find the control button locations easier to operate than my previous cameras. The video record button is easy for me to use without having to take my eye from the viewfinder. And it operates smoothly for me with no initial jerky motion as I have dealt with in the past. The 20 fps burst is fantastic. The shutter is the quietest I have heard since working with a twin-lens reflex years ago. The only downsides I've seen so far is a fairly short battery life. I could shoot more than 1500 frames on average in a single day with my old 60D (including a few video clips. At most I only had to change batteries one time. With the R5, I shoot between 200 and 500 frames (including some video) and run out of juice. A major selling point for me was that with the Canon EF-RF adaptor, I am able to use my current EF lenses on the R5. For example, my Canon EF 100-400 works without difficulty. As well as my specialty lenses. Be sure to buy extra batteries, and remember to charge them at end of day. Even if you aren’t an excessive photographer, several back-up, fully-charged batteries in your gadget bag can make the difference between satisfaction with good shots, and disappointment. Without a bettery, you are out of business. Also, bring extra memory since files can be much larger than previous generation of digital cameras.

I have wanted the R5 for years now. I own the EOS R as well as the R6. I made the leap to purchase the R5 and I have to tell you it is everything I expected and more. I have used both the photo and video modes in a demanding setting and had no issues with auto focus or over heating. I would definitely recommend buying from Best Buy because on top of canon warranty protection you get the optional protections from the company and they are a certified dealer so there is no problem registering with canon. I Highly recommend this camera.

The Canon R5 is truly a game-changer in the world of digital photography! As an avid photographer, I have had the pleasure of using various camera systems, but the R5 stands out as a remarkable piece of technology that exceeds all my expectations. First and foremost, the image quality produced by the R5 is simply outstanding. With its 45-megapixel full-frame sensor and cutting-edge DIGIC X image processor, the camera captures breathtaking detail, vibrant colors, and impressive dynamic range. The results are nothing short of phenomenal, whether shooting landscapes, portraits, or action-packed scenes. One of the standout features of the R5 is its exceptional autofocus system. The Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with 1053 AF points covers an impressive portion of the frame, ensuring precise focus even in challenging conditions. Whether shooting fast-moving subjects or in low-light environments, the autofocus performance is lightning-fast and incredibly accurate. The video capabilities of the R5 are equally impressive. It supports 8K RAW video recording, delivering unmatched resolution and detail. The camera also offers 4K video at high frame rates, allowing for stunning slow-motion footage. The in-body image stabilization further enhances the video quality, providing smooth and steady footage, even when shooting handheld. The R5's ergonomics and build quality are top-notch. The weather-sealed magnesium alloy body feels solid and durable, making it suitable for various shooting conditions. The electronic viewfinder is large and bright, providing a clear and immersive shooting experience. The intuitive touchscreen interface and customizable controls make it easy to navigate through the camera's settings, ensuring a seamless shooting experience. Furthermore, the R5 offers a wide range of connectivity options, including built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, allowing for quick and convenient image transfer and remote control using the Canon mobile app. This feature has greatly simplified my workflow, especially when sharing images on the go. In conclusion, the Canon R5 has exceeded my expectations in every aspect. Its remarkable image quality, exceptional autofocus system, and impressive video capabilities make it a powerful and versatile tool for photographers and videographers alike. If you're looking for a camera that pushes the boundaries of technology and delivers outstanding performance, the Canon R5 is undoubtedly the perfect choice! Note: Review based on the Canon R5 as of September 2021. Please ensure to check for any firmware updates or product enhancements since then.

The Canon R5 is literally the best camera you can buy right now that absolute does everything and does it marvelously well. The quality out of this camera will have you picking your jaw off the floor especially the 4K HQ/8K video. It makes me wonder what magic canon performed to have a great ergonomically mirrorless body do so much. I know some may be worried about the overheating aspect of the camera, but don't let that stop you from purchasing greatness. Besides, they are set to release a major update for the R5 this holiday and I believe every issue we have currently can be fixed via software. If you want the absolute best photo and video out of a mirrorless camera money can buy, look no further than the LeBron James of Mirrorless cameras.....The Canon R5.

Eye tracking auto focus is awesome. Like the weight difference compared to the DSLR. Out of thousands of photos taken, only one or two have been out of focus. Love the display. Excellent sharpness. May consider selling older Canon 5D and 7D models to purchase another R5.

If I could give it a 4.25 I would. I like many of the features like tracking and picture quality I would. It handles well. As a longtime Canon user there are things that could use improvement - like the placement of menu items. The Q stick should be the same, but it isn't. Also, you can't control how many FPS you have in the low speed or high speed modes.

Great image quality! Limited selection of lenses with no pro 3rd party support. No Zeiss, no Sigma, no Tamron. Dismal battery life! Overheating is sadly still an issue in certain video circumstances. After over a year of full time use, I sold mine. Chose another platform.
