Great image quality! Limited selection of lenses with no pro 3rd party support. No Zeiss, no Sigma, no Tamron. Dismal battery life! Overheating is sadly still an issue in certain video circumstances. After over a year of full time use, I sold mine. Chose another platform.

I lucked up and found a R5 at my local Best Buy. Ordered it online and it was ready in 30 minutes for curbside pick-up. For me the primary use of the camera is for stills and I really do not care about the video adpects with all the negative reviews of overheating. Build quality of the camera is excellent it is not to small or to bigger. The new 45mp sensor is a big improvement over older Canon sensors. The addition of IBIS paired with image stabalization is amazing. Eye auto focus has huge improvements over the Eos R. For me it is a stills photographers dream camera. I couldn't be any happier with this camera body.

This is Canon's best ever camera for still photos. The EOS R5 is an incredibly powerful tool for almost every kind of photography. While unfortunately that versatility doesn't quite extend to video, it is still a compelling hybrid option if you're aware of where it limits itself. As long as the higher price tag is not a major barrier for you, this will be the camera to get for a long time.

Camera has excellent ergonomics, just feels right in the hand. Auto focus is crazy good, like voodoo black magic how did it just do that good. So far I have zero issues with overheating and I shoot in hot South Florida, mainly outdoor beach. I am extremely disappointed with Canon for not anticipating demand and ramping up the production of bodies and accessories. Have been waiting two + months for RF lens, lens adapter and battery grip.

    DSLR to Mirrorless?

Transitioning from DSLR to Mirrorless was a daunting choice. Canon made it easy with the R5 because of the addition of more anti shake, increase in megapixels., ability to use EF lenses with an adaptor, and slight reduction in weight of camera and RF lenses. It has been a smart decision, and I could not be happier.

RodSmoltz2022 11 months ago Great camera with one major issue (freezing) The Canon EOS R5 is an outstanding camera. Firmware 1.6 fixed issues with video recording that made users very happy. Photo quality is very very good. I would like to congradulate Canon for their firmwares that improve the stability and bring exciting new features. This body is not perfect but I believe that you get your hard saved money a very good camera for the price BUT their is still 1 major flaw left (beside the 29:59 video limit). From time to time, the camera freezes. Using the 1.52 firmware I got absolutely no freezing but as soon as I updated with version 1.6 the camera started to freeze. So please Canon, can you solve the freezing issues with the camera ? I missed opportunities with this issue. When you're in wildlife and the camera locks up you can't get the shots you were there for. With all your experience and knowledge I am confident that you can correct this problem definitively. You bring firmwares on a regular schedule. This remind me how much you care for users and each firmware tells me that I have zero reason to switch brand. I have been a faithful customer for many years and I plan to continue. Please continue to improve our experience and satisfaction with the R5 with upcoming firmwares. I am a very satisfied customer.

A BEAST OF A CAMERA. I upgraded from a Canon 6D MII and do not regret the transition from DSLR to Mirrorless. The camera itself has so many features which improves my shoots and AI on the focus is incredible. Side note, if you're interested in this camera because you think it might be less weight than a traditional DSLR I would say the weight is comparable and not significantly different (including adapter, etc...).

This is my first ever mirrorless camera, and I’m completely in love. I’ve worked as a professional photographer/videographer for the past 6 years and have always loved Canon’s products. But they have outdone themselves with the new EOS R series! Lightweight, powerful, durable, beautiful design, incredible image/video quality, etc. What more could you ask for? I highly recommend this camera to any serious photographers/videographers out there looking to upgrade.

This Canon R5 works ideal for my business. I shoot both photographs and videos equally. The quality of both images and video are incredible. But if you plan to do more video projects, want pro built in audio, and longer video recording, then I’d highly recommend upgrading to the Canon C70. But it won’t be used for photography. Yes, there’s an overheating issue. But my R5 overheated only in one shoot so far. But it was also outdoors in Arizona with 100 degree weather. Normally I don’t have a problem. I mainly shoot indoors. I also don’t shoot long video segments. I use the RF 24-70mm F2.8 IS USM. It’s extremely fast, super steady and produces beautiful results. Combine this lens with the built-in camera stability and it’s ‘almost’ like using a Ronin S. I also highly recommend getting a SmallRig frame for this camera for more support and mounting options. I still have my old Canon 5D mark IV. But after using the R5, it’s time to retire the 5D IV. It’s like a dinosaur compared. Be sure to use CFast cards for 4K HQ and above filming. But these cards are not cheap! Lastly, I’d give this R5 five stars if the price was a little more affordable and it didn’t seldom overheat.

The Canon R5 camera body is a game-changer when it comes to photography and videography, particularly in low-light conditions. Its impressive low-light performance opens up a world of possibilities for capturing stunning images in challenging lighting situations. One of the standout features of the Canon R5 is its exceptional low-light capabilities. With its high ISO range and advanced sensor technology, this camera excels at capturing sharp, noise-free images even in dimly lit environments. Whether you're shooting indoors, at night, or in other low-light scenarios, the R5 delivers exceptional image quality with minimal noise. The advanced auto-focusing system of the Canon R5 is another remarkable aspect of this camera body. With its cutting-edge Dual Pixel CMOS AF II technology, the R5 offers incredibly fast and accurate autofocus performance. It boasts an impressive number of autofocus points that cover a wide area of the frame, allowing you to track subjects with precision and capture them in sharp focus, even when they're moving rapidly.

As a predominately stills shooter, all the fancy video features didn't factor into my purchasing decisions, although they are a nice addition to the camera. The auto focus is incredible and way, way faster than the EOS R. The resolution is reasonably high, the high ISO performance is phenomenal, and RF lenses are in a league of their own. While EF lenses work flawlessly on the RF system (sometimes even better), the native RF lenses really are worth the upgrade. If you want to get the most out of the camera, I highly recommend RF lenses.

Bought this mainly for the 45 Megapixel Full-frame CMOS Sensor. Image quality is second to none. Even poster size prints comes out sharp. I've use this on trips overseas, vacation at the beach, in the rain, dust. Hasn't fail yet. Only one problem. Over heats when recording at 4k 60fps or over.

This camera is amazing! The 45 megapixels yield a ton of detail. When paired with the 100-500RF the results are amazing for birds in flight and even landscapes. My only gripe is the overheating, but unless you have the video setting to 4k60fps, you'll never see the overheat warning for video. I set it to 4k60 and after about 1.5 hours and a few hundred stills, the video overheat warning came on. I figured out that if reverse the back screen so it's off unless I fold it out, the camera gets much less hot, and I've only seen the video overheat warning after about 3+ hours in 90 degree heat with high humidity. I've never had any overheat warning for just stills, or if video in the C3 custom setting is set to 4k30 or lower.

Quality. Awesome. Can't say enough about the camera. If you record in 8k, just be ready. It will overheat. The card inside the camera overheats. If you use an external recorder at 4k 60fps it will not over heat and you can record for ever. The actual camera doesn't overheat it's the memory card. Only reason for the 3 stars and not 5 is the overheat issue with 8k and not being able to record external like you can to prevent the overheat with 4k60fps.

If you are a stills shooter like me, this camera is incredible. I know there is a lot of discussion about video issues, but if you are a photographer only, don’t stress it. This camera has made my existing L glass more incredible, especially my RF lenses (50 1.2, 85 1.2, 28-70), which have absolutely amazing focus and stabilization on this body. Additionally, my EF L glass focuses even faster than it did on my R. I was skeptical that there could be as much of a leap forward from my R, but this camera has changed my perception on photography.

This is a excellent camera when it comes to shooting birds in flight and action sports. But for most other photography tasks you could buy a lesser camera and save yourself a couple thousand dollars and get comparable pics. It eats batteries, so buy at least one spare. My images are surprisingly noisy in LIghtroom, but I am told that is more an Adobe issue than a Canon issue. Also, I am shooting with higher ISOs than I would use with my older Canon DSLR because for $4,000 I expect a super camera. To get your money's worth, expect to spend a very, very long time with the on-line user manual and setting up your camera. If you don't like slogging through a long and complicated user manual or aren't prepared to spend a lot of time in the set up process and practicing with the camera, you will not get value out of the extra cost of this camera.

No doubt this is the best camera. Although pricey, I see why it’s expensive. Coming from canon T6s to canon R5 was a huge upgrade with tons of new features. Wow!! This Caremark makes taking pictures very easy. With the award winning auto-focus, I can’t believe what I see through the EVF and how sharp the images looks with my new RF 24-70mm. F2.8. I love this camera and would ever recommend it

I've owned 6 previous versions of Canon SLRs including a 1DMIII, the 5DMII, 5DMIII and 5DMIV. I pre-ordered at Best Buy and chose well because I was one of the lucky ones in the first distribution. This one is the best so far and it's not really a SLR now that it's mirrorless. It's even better in many aspects that the 1DXMII. It's brand new so a bit pricey but it will come down in a year if you're not in a rush to buy.
