I have used the Canon M6ii for a couple years now. Paired with the 22mm f/2 and 32mm f/1.4, it’s an amazing kit (compact, lightweight and very capable). However, I’ve long wanted a similar APS-C camera with IBIS and better 4K video. Enter the R7. While a bit bigger, it’s still fairly compact and light. But it adds a lot: IBIS, 4K 10 bit up to 60 fps*, no record time limit, bigger battery, weatherseal, 2 card slots, built in EVF, swivel screen with better resolution, more customization, etc. There are a couple of neat features like in-camera panorama, focus stacking, group photo mode, etc. I wish the R6 had some of these and had the on/off/movie switch on the right. Those are the Pros.
The kit lenses are pretty much garbage, so you’ll need RF glass until they (hopefully) come out with better RF-S glass. This means most of the really good lenses are bigger and heavier and expensive. If you want to keep it compact and less expensive, you’ll need to look at the RF 16mm 2.8, 35mm 1.8, and 50mm 1.8 (there is a 24mm 1.8 coming out soon). However, none of these are weather sealed, and my experience with the 35mm is that it’s a bit noisy and not as good as the EF-M 32mm 1.4. Hopefully Canon releases some RF-S compact primes (weather sealed would be great) to go with this compact APS-C body.

I needed a camera in a rush to get to a sporting event. My old camera wasn’t doing well with dark locations anymore and I bought this one within 20 minutes at the Glendale store (while opening a line of credit.)
The camera works great and I got way better shots than the day before. I can’t wait to upgrade my lenses and will probably go back to Best Buy.

The Canon EOS R7 is an exciting addition to Canon’s mirrorless lineup, offering a compelling mix of features for enthusiasts and semi-professional photographers. After spending significant time with this camera, I can confidently say it is a versatile and capable tool that excels in many areas while having a few minor drawbacks
Image Quality and Sensor Performance
The Canon EOS R7 features a 32.5MP APS-C CMOS sensor, which delivers excellent image quality for its class. The high resolution allows for detailed images, making it ideal for wildlife, sports, and landscape photography where cropping may be necessary.
The autofocus system on the EOS R7 is one of its strongest features. Borrowing technology from Canon’s flagship EOS R3 model, it includes subject recognition modes that prioritize people, animals (including birds), or vehicles. This makes it highly effective for tracking fast-moving subjects in challenging conditions.
For action photographers, the continuous shooting capabilities of the EOS R7 are impressive. It offers up to 30 frames per second (fps) with its electronic shutter or 15 fps using the mechanical shutter—all while maintaining full autofocus tracking.
The compact size of the EOS R7 makes it lightweight and portable—perfect for long hikes or travel photography. However, this small form factor does come with some trade-offs in ergonomics. Photographers with larger hands might find it less comfortable to hold over extended periods when paired with heavier lenses like telephoto primes.
For hybrid shooters who need both stills and video functionality, the EOS R7 delivers solid performance across both domains. As mentioned earlier, oversampled 4K video looks fantastic thanks to its use of all available pixels from the sensor’s full width.
Battery Life
Using LP-E6NH batteries (shared with other RF-mount cameras), battery life on the EOS R7 is respectable but not exceptional. In my experience:
A single charge lasted through about 500–600 shots during mixed usage (stills + video).
Carrying spare batteries is advisable if you plan extended shoots without access to charging facilities.

This was my first major Camera Purchase. I had been using a 70D that my work owned, and realized wanted to get my own personal camera. This was worth every penny.
Perks: Larger Battery, Dual memory card, really well positioned knobs and buttons, IBIS
Cons: the only con, and its more of a challenge then con, this is a crop sensor camera. Because of this, while you can mount RF lenses, they will be cropped 1.6 (a 35 mm full frame is really more 50mm). Just keep this in mind, but otherwise it is an awesome camera!

Very nice camera. So far, I have taken a few test pictures inside and outside. All turned out great with accurate color and lots of detail. The 18 to 150mm lens the camera came with minimizes the need for other lenses. Camera is fairly intuitive to learn for the basics. The well written user guide helps with manual operation and features.

OK, it is a very good camera. Very capable and if one is looking at prosumer stuff at the higher end - it may be the best value at this price. And the 18-150 lens is better than it should be for the bundled price (but remember it is not weather-sealed).
There are things to think about, however because while this camera body is pretty good at just about anything, there are limitations which may make it an unsuitable choice.
For me the greatest frustration is lenses. This camera has the RF-S mount. The selection of RF-S lenses really isn't very good although it is getting better since Sigma has released a pretty good 18-50mm RF-S lens with fairly fast optics - and will release more lenses over time. Tamron will likely make some good RF-S mount lenses at some point. But overall your lens choices are still fairly limited.
Yes, there are some very good RF-mount lenses which the camera can use but those lens's specifications don't really apply when used with the R7. That beautiful "L" lens with fast optics to give you the oft-treasured "Bokeh" just isn't going to perform the same as it would with a full-frame camera body. With the crop-sensor R7 the focal length equivalent goes to 1.6x the design number (wonderful sometimes) but your available aperture also increases to 1.6x the lens design. So, for instance, a nice little 50mm, F/1.8 prime turns into the equivalent of an 80mm, F/2.88 - which might suit you wonderfully or disappoint you greatly.
Net effect is that your native lens selection is limited and the RF-mounts specifications won't apply directly to our R7.
Not a great low-light camera but that's kind of baked in when you get so many pixels in a crop-sensor camera. And this camera has a lot of pixels. But still not too bad and the high pixel density means that if you do choose to use one of those big, beautiful RF-mount "L" lenses you will be able to make good use of that superior available resolution.
Auto-focus? It actually seems to be very good but if you set up to shoot at 30 frames per second you will find a bunch of out-of-focus shots. Keep the frame rate down to 15 (which is still pretty darned good IMHO) and you'll probably be happy with the auto-focus.
Electronic shutter? Awesome if the subject is not moving quickly. Makes for nice quiet photography but if you are shooting something fast moving you'll get distortion because this is a "rolling shutter" experience.
Mechanical shutter? I hear complaints about the noise from some but having come from a rather elderly DSLR I don't think it is bad - and the electronic shutter distortions go away with the mechanical shutter.
If you want a pretty capable camera which doesn't ruin your retirement like a full-frame might, isn't as bulky and heavy as a full-frame, etc.? This might be the best available right now.

my favorite camera.. I do wish the bundle came with a lens that is a little more versatile. The one this comes with is very difficult to use when I'm inside and need to get closer ups. The zoom is beautiful, but I can't get far away enough. Of course I can get another lens... but I'm reviewing the bundle, and for my needs, that's what I need.

Bought this camera to get back into some wildlife and landscape photography. It is priced well and the 18-150 is a pretty decent lens for a kit lens. The 1.6x crop from the crop sensor is great and allows for an extremely sharp image with the 32mp's. Hope to see canon allow others access to produce RF mount lenses in the near future. Only con of this camera for me is the lack of options to extend the grip as Canon did not build this rig with the ability to have a shooting grip added.
