My daughter and I both bought one of these. I bought it because it is a DSLR but is lightweight and easy to travel with. I have other Canon DSLRs as well. This stands right up there with the others. You don't sacrifice anything if you are not an expert. Lovely pictures, easy to use, lots of possible controls and adjustments, manual/automatic. Love It!

I love this camera more than anything I have ever owned. It is perfect. It is simple enough to want to play with it and advanced enough that it will do anything I ever want it to. I bought another lens for it as well but the lens that came with the camera is excellent and I use it constantly.

This lil camera has all the perks of a T5I and so forth yet it has a smaller frame and and lower price. Definitely recommend for first timers such as myself, quality is clean and precise. Navigation is easy and not confusing at all. Overall just a great camera at a great price!

We photograph our boys playing baseball and our daughter jumping horses. We can clearly see the stitching on the ball (in motion), and individual hairs on the horse! Very impressed!

I have had the Canon EOS Rebel xTi for many years. I have bought other point and shoot cameras because the SLR is a bit big to carry around. When I learned that Canon came out with a smaller body, I had to try it. I am so glad I did! The picture quality is amazing. It is so crisp and looks almost 3D. I have two young boys, and the action modes are phenomenal. I captured my son jumping off a dock into the lake - frozen in mid air. The photos are such high quality, that my brother-in-law was in the market for a new camera, and he bought the same one :)

When you are ready to move up from a point and shoot, try this great camera but be sure to get both lenses. The 75-300mm allows you to easily satisfy one of the first rules of photography- when you think you are close enough . . . get closer!

I took this camera to my Grandsons World Series in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Got wonderful pictures! What's so neat is that it has a sport setting where you can catch every movement on the ground or clear action pictures with every little detail and expression on his face while pitching the ball. Also got wonderful pictures on the beach in bright sunlight. Love it!

Great Camera...Saved Christmas

I purchased this camera with the EFS-55mm - 250mm IS STM lens. The camera was a Christmas present for my wife. I had originally purchased this camera from QVC, who had guaranteed pre-Christmas delivery. It did not arrive before Christmas, and I was informed it would not arrive until January 5, 2016. On 12/27 I purchased the camera from Best Buy on line, and picked it up at my local Best Buy store.
My wife was delighted with the camera. She was able to take some remarkably good wildlife {Bald Eagle) shots her first time out, even though she has never used a DSLR before. It is light, easy to use, and extremely versatile. It is a superb choice for a beginner or intermediate photographer who wants a light and compact DSLR they can rely upon.

Perfect for travel and action shots

As a geologist (and someone obsessed with her pets), I needed a nice camera to take in the field for my research (and for my dog's Instagram account). Since this is one of the smallest DSLR bodies out there, it seemed perfect. I don't even notice the weight of this camera in my day pack, but it still takes high quality pictures. So far, I've just used the stock lense that comes with it, and I have to complaints. The shutter speed is fast and the settings are SUPER easy to adjust, especially compared to my older Rebel body. I haven't had a field season since I bought it, so I can't attest to its durability for the hikers/campers out there, but I can attest to the quality of its action shots and landscapes -which is high. I have a speedy German Shorthaired Pointer, who is notoriously difficult to shoot. With my old Rebel body, I could never get a good shot of her unless she was sitting still (which is a rare occasion). The wide ISO range (400-6400 I think), which can be easily adjusted from the main screen, allows me to get nice action shots even in low-light conditions. My only complaint (if you can call it that), is that I've found that I have to save the photos as raw files, which takes more storage space and I have to change the file type before I can edit them. If I don't, my edits get grainy. Of course, that may be an effect of someone who is fairly new both with Adobe products, and to using a DSLR for more than a point-and-shoot. That being said, this camera has the potential to take me a long ways in my photography skills.

This camera is loaded with features for the novice or advanced shooter. It's light weight makes it easy to carry around compared to heavier DLSs. Picture quality is good and the kit lens is sharp. The touch screen is a nice feature. The optical viewfinder is great, something that is missing from most point and shoot cameras. I find it preferable to the electronic viewfinders in interchangeable lens compact ( ILC) cameras. The tipping point for me in purchasing this camera was the large number of Canon lenses that are available at much lower cost than ILC camera lenses.

This camera takes outstanding pictures. It is easy to operate and is a great size and weight for my smaller hands. Very happy with my purchase and wish I had gotten a camera like this years ago. With the zoom lens the quality is superior. Can't wait to figure out all of the features!

This was my first DSLR camera. It is very light and very manageable. I have small hands and it fits perfect not too small and not too heavy. I love it! Not only is it beautifully designed, the touch screen is Crystal Clear. I can' t wait to learn more tricks on it!

See that alliteration up there? Try that for a tongue twister! This DSLR is amazing! It's compact where it needs to and performs when it needs to, seriously the SL1 packs a punch. Bought this back in 2014 and I'm still using it like it was new to this day. I got rid of the kit lens and bought a 40mm for street photography and the SL1 looks like an advanced point and shoot camera. It's incredibly versatile and easy to carry. I've held my friends Canon 60Ds and 7D with some heavy lens and it feel like holding a brick. Not with this, it doesn't.
Onto the IQ. The pictures are clear and ISO also keeps up. You can push it to about 3200 with little noise on the 40mm if you're holding it really still. IQ is also related to the lens you're using so when I get my Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 that I bought from Best Buy this weekend, I can definitely give it another go around. This cameras been out for a while now, but it's still well worth it if you're looking for something light and efficient. If you wanna be walking around while traveling without feeling neck pains, this camera's for you. Pack this with either the 40mm f2.8 / 50mm f1.8 for primes or 15-85mm/ 17-55mm for zooms and you'll be good to go with the perfect walk around camera/lens setup.
Bad thing about the camera is that if you decide to put a heavier lens on it such the 17-55mm f2.8 lens from Canon (which I was going to buy, but didn't because of the price tag), the distribution of weight isn't good and you'll be forced to hold the lens to balance since the said lens will be ~600g and this is ~400g.
Pros
- Really compact and easy to carry around when traveling
- Battery lasts really long
- Auto focus system is quick
Cons
- Could have better sensor since Canon bumped up the 18 mp to 24, but this camera is from 2013 so what can you do.
- When equipped with heavier lenses, the balance can be off putting and will cause lopsidedness.
- The grip on the right side could be a little more protruding.

My friend works for Canon and recommended the SL1 over the T3i for various reasons. The touch-screen is an awesome feature! The video quality is also great. This is my first DSLR camera and I can't stop playing with it! I'm still learning all of the cool features and settings, but once you get the hang of it, it's very user friendly. It's also smaller than some of the others we've seen, which is great.
I highly recommend this product for beginners.
