We bought this camera prior to the arrival of our daughter. It was our first expensive camera that we've owned. Overall it's a great camera. It's a little on the expensive side and it's hard to figure out settings sometimes. We've gotten some awesome pictures on the auto setting and are looking forward to more. Very lightweight!

This is my first DSLR...bought it because it is the smallest I could get. I do a lot of underwater photography with a point and shoot, and it was time to get into macro. Sure I could have gotten an older model for less money but the size of this one makes it perfect for travel. Plus the underwater housing is less expensive because it is considerably smaller than any comparable camera.

I've been waiting to purchase my first DSLR for a long time. When I first heard about The SL1, I knew I had to put this at the top of my list. I thoroughly researched the other Canon Rebel cameras and although they are slightly superior (video quality, ISO performance, more manual options), I opted for the SL1 for the compact size and my interest to enter the DSLR world. I figure that once I become more serious about my photography and feel comfortable with using the manual settings, I will definitely upgrade and use the SL1 as a back up.

Great camera for the price works excellent for taking any type of photographs. I would recommend to anyone just starting out as is easy to use
