Needed something to back up my EOS 6D that would provide great image quality and performance in a smaller package. This camera fits the bill. Pleasantly surprised at how intuitive the touchscreen is for adjusting settings and reviewing images. Especially appreciate the auto switch between optical viewfinder and LCD--it is virtually instant when the camera is raised to my eye. Autofocus is swift, and with settings tweaked the camera delivers crisp, detailed images with very good dynamic range and natural colors. Images are quite usable through ISO 6400. Coupled with 18-135mm STM, the SL1 is a great walk-around camera with good video ability. Coupled with EF 40mm 2.8 STM, I have a package not much larger than the EOS M (and most other mirrorless cameras) but with nimble SLR performance and truly excellent image quality. This little gem very ably handles my "B-string" tasks with far less bulk and weight than my full-frame camera. It's a great little camera!

This is my first DSLR camera so I was a little afraid of how easy it would be to use & I must say it is VERY easy to use, the zoom & the clarity & quality of the pictures is incredible. I always buy Canon cameras & I'm very glad I decided on this one. The touchscreen is nice I just wish it had wifi but that's no big deal. I'm still learning all the features it has & I have a lot to learn. I bought the white one with the different lense. The white is nice, it's different, my only concern is keeping it clean:)

    Great Camera

This is a great camera for the price/weight. Got it for upcoming trips to MA and the Grand Canyon. Replacing an early model EOS Digital Rebel. Hope to keep using some of my older lenses. This camera is very light and feature packed. The scene modes seem to work very well. The only issue so far is indoors. You really need an external flash to get great pictures. However, that is to be expected in this type of camera. I got it to take video some of the time. Very good quality so far. I was wary about only mono audio... but I believe you can hook up an external stereo mic if it that bothers you. The lens is very light (just like the camera). I was on the fence with getting camera only v. with lens. The $150 difference is worth it. My old lens does work with this camera, but it is just not as responsive in auto focus. Also, don't forget about the sound of your lens if you plan on using autofocus while shooting video. I am very happy with how the new lens is so quiet and does not seem to interfere with sound quality. Also, because the lens is a "mid grade", it happens to be made of very light materials, which is actually an advantage on a camera this light. The lens is only a little heavier than than the 40MM pancake lens that was thinking of getting instead... and obviously a lot more versatile. One word of caution... you have to put time into this camera to get maximum value out of it. Read a book, go to web sites, or take a class if you are a point and shoot photographer looking to upgrade. Just getting this camera alone is NOT enough!

Great beginner camera or larger SLR compliment!

I have had many dSLR cameras over the years (Rebel XT, 30D, 7D, 5D mkIII, etc.) and currently primarily shoot with a 5d MKIII with various L lenses. I got to the point where that was either too heavy or I was afraid of damage at certain events (family related) where I was looking into a mirrorless system. But once I saw this in person and the size, especially with the 40 2.8 pancake I knew this was the answer. I can use all my lenses and equipment but have it be smaller and lighter to carry around. I got the bundle with the 18-55 and 55-250 for weight reasons as well. When I got home, I took some shots and was blown away. The IQ was excellent as is the high ISO performance, even with the kit lens. I even think some of the IQ is better or similar to my old 7D! While it doesn't compare to the 5D, it is the PERFECT compliment for it. I will note the 70-200 2.8 IS does look funny on the SL1, but still great performance. I would highly recommend this to any new beginner looking to get into and learn (or T5i) but highly recommend for those like me who have larger kits and want a lighter, smaller option when lugging around stuff is not as ideal.
