Customers frequently mention the excellent camera quality and ease of use of the EOS Rebel T5 DSLR Camera. Many also appreciate its affordable price and lightweight design. While some users noted minor issues with autofocus performance and the lack of an included memory card, the positive feedback on image quality and user-friendliness outweighs these concerns.

My primary reason for purchasing this camera was to be able to get the most vivid close up shots of my boys playing sports (soccer). This camera has not disappointed. The camera itself has so many settings and features I'm still learning, it does amazing things. The lenses (as well) that came with this camera are outstanding. The only downside is, it takes a little time to learn the settings for a non-photographer. I certainly got a lot of bang for the buck with the T-5 DSLR.

This is my first DSLR. Right out of the box you can start taking pro photos with the camera set to full auto (A). I took the camera to a convention in DC and got the most amazing shots, especially with the zoom lens that came with the bundle. I shot 1080p video that looks stellar. You'll want a high speed memory card for the best videos.
My next test was some astro-photography. I went out to take some pics of a full Moon one night. I had the camera set on auto. I found what works best is putting it on manual. I had to figure out the best settings, but got it within about 4-5 minutes. I set the shutter speed to 1600 which is very fast (captures less light). The Moon is very bright in the night sky and you don't want a long exposure or it will appear like a blurry ball of light (I found that out). I experimented a bit more with the settings. I ended up with some Spectacular pictures of the Moon. I used the zoom lens to capture amazingly detailed crater shots. I posted the pics to Facebook & people couldn't believe it. They were in awe. I was amazed, also.
Long story short, easy camera to operate, amazing pics. The only downside so far is with continuous shooting, you get 3 pics per second, and auto-focus sometimes can't keep up with moving objects. You will still get awesome shots, but once in awhile you'll have a blurry one in the batch if you are shooting 20 or more in rapid succession. That's not enough to drop the star rating. This is an awesome camera for a first-time DSLR user. A huge step-up in picture quality & control from camera phones & regular digital cameras.
Buy the bundle if you can. You save $, and the zoom lens that comes with it is a must have! Love this camera!

After many years of compact digital and iPhone photography I now realize what was missing after using the Canon EOS Rebel T5. It travelled with me through Europe and took over 2000 shots. Very few were ruined shots as the automatic settings did most of the decision making in terms of focus, shutter-speed and f-stops.
I also appreciate the many added features provided by a DSLR camera with flexible and interchangeable lens capabilities. The 18 mm wide-angle is superb in close museum settings. The additional weight of a larger camera was not that onerous and of DSLRs the Rebel is actually light. Where this camera shines in comparison to the smartphone and compact digitals, is in low light photography.
The battery is good for about 500 shots so buy a spare. One, or at most two 16 MB, 10 speed chips is all you would need for 10 days of travel. Stay with a couple of smaller capacity chips so that a failure of one would result in a less catastrophic loss. I am still learning about the may capabilities of this entry-level DSLR camera and am pleased with my purchase. I have read that for a bit more money the Canon EOS Rebel T5i is a bit better, but I wonder whether I could notice the image difference.

I bought this camera in part because I was looking to get a DSLR for better picture quality, but also because this was a phenomenal deal. Retailers still sell the camera alone for $595. Getting the 75-300 lens with it is an incredible bonus as well.
I've never had a DSLR before, so I was a bit nervous about using it. It proved to be VERY easy to use right out of the box. There are many options for taking pictures, as well as picture quality, size, effect, etc. It has incredible battery life. It's very stable - while in motion I have been able to capture images that show no signs of movement.
The ONLY drawback to this one is that it does NOT have the fold-out screen. But don't let that sully your opinion of this camera - the benefits far outweigh this one minor detail.
Bottom line - if you're looking for a good camera to start shooting, or even if you're looking to upgrade from an older model, give this camera deal a shot. It's not the newest out there, it doesn't have the most bells and whistles. But it is an excellent camera and a better deal.
