i use this extender with my 200mm 2.8 L ultrasonic lens on my canon 7D.. the clarity is great.
it works best on manual , not so much for automatic.
was well worth the money !
the pic of turkeys attached were taken at 150 - 200 yards away.

Great Quality Must have for distance shooting

First of all Great Lens. Purchased the extender for event shooting when I am at distance. Quality is great but bit slow in focus. Don't like the fact that I'm losing 2 stops with my 70-200 2.8 but when you need to shoot with distance, it does the job. Great for landscape shots. Great to have when you travel. Canon needs to figure a way to extend without losing 2 stops.

only had the 2.0- for about a month ,,, this is my first extender/tc that i ever gotten to play with , and find it harder to follow moving flying birds and focus seem slower ,, changed my f2.8 lens to F5.6 max ,, ,, and had to adjust the fine focus ,but for still or slow moving subjects it is giving me nice results
i am happy and relived that i can get nice sharp shots .. but still need a lot more time playing with this ..

Normally when shopping for lenses the mount type (EF, F, E etc) is enough to tell you if the lens will work with your camera system. Extenders are very specific to to the distance the last rear lens elements are from the mount. Check the lens compatibility list to make sure this will fit you desired lens. Otherwise, it does what it should. Small light loss, longer focal length.

I had the read the reviews and understood the limitations but having experienced the results when compared to shooting without the extender, I decided it wasn't worth the money and returned it. I was using this with the 100-400mm IS II lens on a Rebel 4i body.
The 2x extender lost 6 f-stops with this configuration, the camera wouldn't go wider than f11 vs. f5.6 normally. Check other reviews and tech specs - I thought it wouldn't be as many f-stops so maybe this was something to do with the body I was using. Also on the Rebel 4i it will not auto-focus (I expected to have to go manual), but I have seen reviews indicating it will auto-focus with center point on better EOS bodies. So this means reduced shutter speed and/or higher ISO combined with manual focus out to 800mm which is extremely sensitive, an extremely solid tripod and really perfect conditions to get a usable shot.
The end result after all this faffing around was very difficult to get a sharp image, I found it to be no better than cropping a 400mm shot in post-process; it was not worth the hassle and need for perfect conditions to just get similar results. I think on a proper EOS body which does not lose auto-focus it would be more useful, and on a shorter lens it would add more value to get the extra reach; 1.4x may have been better experience for me but I decided 400mm is enough to play with for now.
Bottom line nothing wrong with this it's a quality Canon product which behaves "as expected" hence 4 stars; but do your homework on this to set expectations - if you know what you want to achieve and understand the pros/cons of this equipment, then go for it.

I have been shooting surfers from the beach, at the North Shore, Oahu, with a Canon 5DMIII, 70-200L lens. Without the tele extender 2x, I needed to crop the original photo to see details in the surfers, which resulted in sacrificing considerable sharpness. With the tele extender 2x, I got the same size surfer as in the cropped image but with better resolution. So after shootings throughout the Triple Crown of Surfing Competition, I am overall pleased with the product quality and results, moreover on a few days I even shot some pictures without a tripod due the variable settings of the competitions and still got adequate sharpness. And considering the much lower cost of the 2x vs a 400 mm lens investment, the small decrease in resolution is worth it.

My husband wanted this for Christmas to go with a lens he already had. He couldn't be happier with it. He has used it almost every day; and with our record snow fall we just got, it was a great time for him to use it again.
So, I think that my husband and I are EXTREMELY happy with our purchase, and will probably be getting more in the near future.

The 2x converter is excellent when you need some extra reach. I use with the 70-200mm 2.8 when I need extra reach, but still need the shorter minimum focus distance over the 100-400mm. Great piece of equipment.

Beware the ad lies. This is not for efs lenses. It will mount up to EOS bodies but not the lens. Had to return. Not saying it’s not good just that it doesn’t work for my setup

Need to attach another part of the lens for this unit to work together. Total cost will reduce by buying this detached unit. If you want to save cost this is a must have.
