Great Printer, but drains ink

Print quality is great, but it uses a ton of ink and the cartridges are super expensive. We are going through 3 times the amount of ink as our previous printer and the ink costs twice as much. Overall the printer is great, but I don't recommend it if you're doing large print jobs as the cost of ink is brutal.

I have been a huge fan of previous Canon laser B&W multifunction printers in the past, so I was excited to upgrade to this model, and really wanted to like it. The upside: the print quality is great. That’s where it stops. There are so many things that are NOT an improvement with this model over the previous three printers we’ve owned. 1) it is crazy loud. 2) very confusing setup that I still don’t have ironed out. I’m having to choose the print tray every print! The old ones would default to the tray unless something was placed on the multi-format feeder. This one could do that, but it doesn’t. At least I haven’t figured that out yet. 3) Multi-format feeder is single-sheet! Old one was multi-sheet. If you try to use multiple sheets, this one will pull them in and then jam. Then the computer will continually think it is jammed even after the jam is fixed. You have to restart the computer for it to print again. 4) wireless printing still not figured out yet. We are using a cord. I’m quite disappointed in the “improvements” that Canon has done in the past 15 years.

This printer is super fast and uses very little toner. Bought this for my wife to print documents, signs, etc for her class.
My only complaint is the remote print interface is complete garbage. Hard to set up email scanning.

Black and white prints are sharp. I didn't have to do any alignments or color adjustments. I use it for personal and home business.

High quality printer, no issues so far, easy to set up, a little pricey for replacement cartridges but worth the money for quality prints.

Bought this printer on a Black Friday Sale! Definitely a good value at that point, and up until i need to refill the toner... The hardest part of getting this set up was lifting it in place. Other than that it has been easy, and exactly what i needed it for! I am a bit unique. I bought this because i DONT print often (weird right?) But that is what is great about it. It doesn't dry out after extended periods of time. I had been buying ink, and then having it dry out on me. This prints exactly hat i need, in color, and double sided. Glad i went with this printer!

Purchased for home use. Easy to set up. Prints are very clear. Apple print works flawlessly. No extra drivers required. Able to air print from all my devices. Excellent value. Probably did not need the fax but have it, if I ever want it.

Had the printer about a month and quite happy with it. Prints clearly, Apple AirPrint works great with Phones, iPads and Laptop / Desktop Macs. Done a little scanning and that works well.
Have not had the issue some mentioned waking from sleep mode - though I did following this advice when I setup the printer (haven't tried shutting off the power save option so can't say if it is necessary)
Q: I heard some of the older models had issues with waking from sleep via wifi and causing users to have to physically do so. Did they fix this issue?
A: I had the same concern and for at least a 1/2 a day I spent time trying to search for the fix, as the printer (MF656cdw) was disconnecting from the WIFI in the house when it went into auto-sleep mode. Researching the Internet or Canon's support site didn't help until I found it buried in a very convoluted detail in the extended online manual.
When you're setting the WIFI network using the touch screen, after typing in the password, you'll see a message at the bottom that says "connection set". if you tap that, you'll get a couple of extra options including the Power Save option, which defaults to on. If you turn this off, it should stay on the network and wake the printer when you send a print job to it. This allows the rest of the printer to sleep (which is important for a laser printer to do when not in use).

This Canon laser printer performs admirably and reliably. Its primary use is for printing documents and pamphlets. I considered a couple of other brands, which also came highly recommended. But print quality, price, positive reviews, and toner price lead to my decision. I am happy with it.

Worked great for about a month then started making a very loud noise. For smaller projects it works great but if you have to print more than 50 pages it seemed to have a bit of trouble keeping up with the printing hence the loud noise. When I did a smaller project i did not have the same noise issue. But perfect for small business which is what I needed!
Downfall - ink very expensive

This printer fits well where I wanted it, and does everything I've needed it to do including duplex printing, scanning from the bed and document tray, and full color printing.
I was tired of paying for an ink plan, and ink jet printers dry out way too quickly! My hope this is going to last for years with minimal care required.
One comment: it's loud! Not the loudest I've encountered, but certainly not quiet.

I love my printer! I originally bought this because I was homeschooling my son and I printed a lot of worksheets. I use it for making copies as well. The setup is very simple. I love the easy use of the touchscreen. It is very heavy so I would suggest 2 people. Ink lasts a long time. I for sure printed over 500 pages before having to change just the black ink.

I think this is one of the best LaserJet printers that I have bought for the price. A little heavier than my old inkjet. Does require at least two people to lift it. Works well iwith remote devices and the display is clear and easy to read. Printing is Crisp and Sharp.
