Drops Server Settings
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When it was working, it was great. Every few hours it would lose SMTP port for scan to email. The customer uses this feature primarily to scan in documents so the machine was unusable.

Good print quality, but too many compromises.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I currently have a relatively old, stand alone color laser printer and a separate document scanner. I was really hoping that this imageCLASS multifunction printer would allow me to consolidate the two devices and free up some desk space. Unfortunately, there are too many compromises with this multifunction printer to meet my needs. First, the touchscreen is more of a "pressure" screen than a touch screen. This made selection of options and scrolling a somewhat frustrating process. Admittedly, I am used to the touch screen on my smart phone and tablet device, which may have made for an unfair comparison, but the assessment still stands. The "back" button is displayed in the upper-left corner and I had to try to "click" it several times for the back command to register. Additionally, the menu is less than intuitive, making it hard to find options and settings. For example, I wanted to switch the interface from wireless to wired ethernet and it was not easy to find that option in the menu. The wireless setup and installation of the printer on my Mac was fairly smooth. The problem, however, is that when the printer goes into sleep mode, sending a print job to the network printer did not wake the printer up from sleep mode. Rather, my computer simply told me the device was not connected and I had to physically get up, walk over to the printer, and touch the screen to take it out of sleep mode, at which point the print job successfully sent to the printer and printed. The printer is fast, the quality is good, and duplex printing worked just fine, but the printer is rather loud, even when compared to the decade old color laser printer that I have now. Beyond that, while the printer is marketed is a duplex printer (it prints on both sides of the page), the scanner is not, which is unacceptable to me. In using the software, there did not appear to be any way to accommodate front-to-back pages with the scanner by merging a front-page scan with a back-page scan. Ultimately, I am willing to overlook the clunky menu and setting options along with the less-than-responsive touch screen. The inability of the printer to wake from sleep when a print job is sent, along with the lack of the ability to scan in duplex, are deal breakers for me. Again, though, the wireless setup was easy, the print quality is good, the printer does print duplex, and it prints fast (as most laser printers do). If you are looking for a relatively inexpensive multifunction device with those features and do not care about duplex scanning, the price point of this MFC may make it a persuading option for you. With that being said, the toner cartridges that are shipped with the unit are "starter" cartridges, which I suspect means they are not designed to be full capacity cartridges and will need to be replaced relatively quickly. So, the MFC is not bad, but it is also not as feature-rich and intuitive to use as I would have hoped. The price point with these features may be good for some, but not for me, which was too bad. I was really hoping I would like this MFC. Back to two separate devices (a stand alone scanner and separate printer) for the time being.

Good Quality!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are many things I enjoy about this printer! The design is simple and fits my home office aesthetic pretty well. However, If you're looking for a statement piece, I would definitely look at other options. The display is clear and easy to read. And the user interface is good and easy to navigate through. Setup was fast and I was able to get it connected to Wi-Fi and fully setup within 20 minutes. It prints within seconds so it handles big batches of paper work really well. My last printer took a full two minutes to print out a double sided document so this was a much welcomed upgrade. It also scan files relatively fast. This would be a great fit for a home office or a small business! However, there are some downsides. This thing is big! Not a space saver in the slightest and it is pretty heavy so if you want to move it around, you're probably going to need some help. Also, while its amazing at printing documents it is a little lackluster on the photo side of things. It can print pretty decent images, but I wouldn't make this the sole photo printer. Overall, I'd say it is a pretty good printer, however, do your own research and make sure it fits all of your needs.
