    Quality Laser Printer/Great Color Printing

Set up for this printer is pretty straightforward. Find a place for it, remove the tape from every nook and cranny per instructions, then plug it in and follow the instructions on the touchpad. This is a laser printer and it has a larger footprint than your average inkjet printer. I was able to put this on a 16x16 inch end table with very little problem. Be aware that this is a heavy printer and will require a sturdy table. This printer can print, copy and scan. It does double-sided printing and scanning which I love because it saves on the number of pieces of paper you need. It prints quickly at 22 pages per minute. It holds up to 250 sheets of paper in the main tray which makes it nice so you don’t need to refill the paper tray as often. You can easily print from your PC, USB drive or even your phone. Scanning is a breeze and scans can be sent to an email address. With the document feeder, you can scan up to 50 pages at a time. The quality of printing is amazing. I printed a few pictures on regular paper and the color was quite true to life. Any jobs or projects you print will look truly professional and outstanding with colors that are amazing. I had no idea that a laser printer could be this good with printing colors. Whether you have a small business, work from home or need it for personal use, this is a great addition. You do not need to replace ink cartridges very often. The laser cartridges are rather expensive, but you do get what you pay for and the quality is excellent, professional looking and last much longer than the ink in an ink jet printer. I find this can save money in the long run, especially when using the high capacity toner cartridges. In my opinion you get more bang for your buck using a laser printer.

This laser printer is heavy duty, and heavy in weight too. Watch your back! Once it was set up for me, I absolutely loved it and the ease of making sharp laser copies. I can make copies easily and efficiently, from any room in my home. Definitely a step up from my previous printer.

This has been an amazing upgrade to my home office! I can do so much more with this all-in-one wireless color laser printer than I could with my former printer. While it is bigger and a little bit louder than my former printer, the benefits outweigh those two small cons.

    Good Color Laser All-in-one

Printers are routinely viewed as the demons of the technology world, they never seem to work right, get jammed, have issues, are difficult to install, configure, make work consistently, etc. In recent years, at least on the consumer side, things have been slowly improving, and I have to say that this printer has made large strides in that regard. To start, it's well packaged in a heavy box with thick styrofoam, fairly par-for-the-course in terms of packing. It comes with a power cord, documentation, a CD (who still uses a CD for drivers anymore?), and a plastic piece that has no explanation (more on that in a minute). It was listed in the documentation as including a network cable, but mine did not have one (I did not need it, so no big deal, I connected it via WIFI). Which brings us to setup. I plugged it in, went through the quick setup instructions which arent 100% clear, it mentions doing the color correction step which failed for me, and then it eventually brings you to the auto-reorder for the supplies (toner) which is not a required step but the instructions dont explain how to not have it (just pick decline) or how to set it up (it states you need to have configured that before setting up the printer, then you'd hit accept... again, not clear). But once stumbling through the quick setup, it kinda just 'works' which is a big part of the annoyance with printers. I went through the install on the PC for the drivers which I downloaded as opposed to using the CD (I dont have a CDROM drive anymore). The install was straightforward, it does state during the install that you need to ensure that the firewall on your machine is open, but it does not appear to do that for you (strange limitation). Fortunately my McAfee software opened it automatically just by identifying that it was printer software. The printer driver and scanner software appear to be separate but the install was quick enough and the test page printed successfully. When installing this on my work laptop I was prevented from installing the Canon driver software, but fortunately the default Windows drivers were allowed and worked perfectly. As for the function of the printer itself. It spins up very quickly and the first print is available in rapid fashion. It prints very quickly and the color reproduction is great (even with the failed color calibration task from the quick setup). Copying is straightforward both on the flatbed and with the document feeder, which is something I'll use a lot. And finally, scanning is good, but be sure to open the Scan software on the PC first. Some things to note: You may have challenges if your firewall or antivirus software needs a manual entry for the canon software, so just be aware. Second, I'm not sure why the color calibration failed to run on a brand new printer fresh out of the box, but it didn't seem to matter. Finally, the toner is EXTREMELY expensive, costing almost as much as the printer to replace the full set. I'm waiting for third party toner to be available, but right now it is not. All in all, it's a pretty good printer, a few minor issues in setup, but the function is good. Barring the issues above it works well and the stumbles were minor, but someone without my technical background may find this more challenging to set up than it should be.

    Best Budget Color Laser Printer

Works great for small home business. I really wanted a laser printer vs an ink or eco tank. This one was affordable and works with scanning to email and WiFi printing. Only two cons is it is louder than other printers all in ones I’ve owned but I can deal with the loudness and the scan feeder at top is not front and back scan only one sided scan. A feature I would have preferred but is only available on the all in one with a fax. I would have spent the extra $50 to have the feature if I knew the limitations of the scan feeder was only one sided. Otherwise, I recommend this Cannon color laser all in one . I’ve learned to deal with the scan feeder not scanning double sided and just rescanning the back of the sheet manually.

    A really good Canon printer

There's always been an argument between laser printer and inkjet printers users. Over the years, I have come to appreciate both, but each one for different purposes. Laser printers are what I would qualify as "office" printers and inkjet printers as "photo" printers. The Canon imageCLASS MF654Cdw Wireless Color All-In-One Laser Printer might be a viable choice for you if you're in need of a machine that can do both. This printer is rather big, but that's inherent with all laser printers or at least, most of them. I believe it is meant for an office setting, so make sure you have some space for it. Once unpacked and set up, you will need to download the drivers and the companion app. Note that if you want to print from your phone or tablet, this printer comes with a couple of options to do that. The guided setup is nicely done and gets you going pretty quickly. The display is intuitive and responsive and big enough to work with. Once the toners are in, pop some paper in the generously big drawer and you're good to go. I'm not a big fan of the companion app as it is a little rough to use. Nevertheless, it gets the job done. My first print was a 32 page manual in black and white. From start to finish, it only took about 45 seconds. My next prints were pie charts (everyone loves a good pie chart) and schematics in color. It took the printer a couple of minutes as the data was transferred to the unit over WIFI. The result was surprisingly good with even colors, no lines or artifacts, especially with laser printer paper. I have also printed out some promotional material on glossy paper and it came out really well. I have also tried the scanner (flatbed and feeder) and the speed was adequate, while the resulting images were just OK. I didn't push the DPI to anything above 300 DPI, so higher resolutions might offer better results. The copy function is just as good and somehow faster. So why should you choose this printer over an inkjet printer? Laser printer toners are massive and can handle more print loads before needing to be replaced. It also provides cleaner and visually more appealing results. The downside is the cost to replace the toners which might seem scary compared to ink, but realistically, the cost is similar as you'll be changing your ink carts way more often than the toners. An inkjet will deliver much more vibrant and rich photo prints, but with the right paper, you can obtain very nice results with Canon's imageCLASS printer. The bottom line is this: If your looking to buy a good laser printer which can handle bigger print volumes, give the Canon imageCLASS MF654Cdw a chance. It's a solid and easy to use device. I recommend it if you plan to use it in an office setting or a home office. You'll get your money's worth.

    This Printer is a Beast!

A beast in all the good ways of course - this MF650C does everything that I could possibly want and a tad bit more. It prints quickly and scans well as the box advertises – even duplex printing and scanning from the document feeder. That last one is cool as I’ve not personally had a device that could do it at home to date. What’s not on the box that I find fantastic is that this device comes with the operating system (OS) that you would typically find on a Canon office printer. As someone who hates the tiny screens and cumbersome interfaces of home user inkjet printers, this is an amazing find. By the nature of having a professional OS on it, a multitude of features are suddenly offered. Top of my list is a nearly seamless integration with cloud providers like OneDrive, Dropbox and Google Drive – with both scanning and printing functionality built in. Even something that is normally difficult on lower end models takes seconds to do here. I’ve had printers where setting up the initial Wi-Fi connection had me debating if I should even have a password on my network. On this printer, it took me more time to find my network in the list than it did for me to type in the password and get it connected because you get a full touchscreen QWERTY keyboard to enter the password on. This setup also allows for some functionality that makes life _really_ easy to use it. Canon has business apps published that allow you to print and scan from your phone with almost no setup. My wife always asked me to use our old printer; while it was on Wi-Fi, the only way it could easily print was if I turned on my laptop, downloaded the document, and hit print from a computer. Last night she printed a document that needed a wet signature, signed it, then scanned it again, all from the comfort of her iPhone. The only direct interaction required was scanning a QR code that the printer generated. And of course, no computer was involved in the process. The professional OS built in does, however, push this device more into a small office/home office territory versus what you would find in lower tier machines. Out of the box, there are several built-in features that require additional backing services that many homes simply don’t have ready to go out of the box. For instance, the scanner has the capacity to scan and email documents to desired recipients; however, in order to do so, you need to have an email server set up – something that many homes don’t have set up nor have the capacity to do so for a multitude of reasons. Another feature, scanning to a network file share requires having either a Windows File Share (SMB) or FTP server going. A much lower barrier to entry, but still cumbersome to set up to fully enjoy all the functionality of the printer. Ultimately I am not bothered that much by the above hurdles. I have the know-how to take care of some of those missing services and to make for a competent experience for everyone in the house. As such I didn’t remove any stars for this, but I do feel it important to set expectations for what you’re buying. My only real complaint about this printer is that on occasion there are localization leaks – for example, the OneDrive cloud application has Japanese text describing things like the application name and shared/personal folders, leaving it as a guess for what button does what on the interface. I truly do like this printer and I do think that it is going to be a workhorse in my office for years to come. It checks all the boxes I could want in a device like this, plus it gives me a chance to mess around with my home network setup providing the services mentioned above to keep me busy on the weekends.

    Worked AWESOME while it lasted

BUY THE GEEK SQUAD WARRANTY for this machine, or ANY printer machine. I was told outright by a sales rep that printers are considered 'disposable' items and made NOT last. Yay for reducing E-waste... NOT. Having said that, I had purchased the longest offered warranty provided for this laser printer out of habit, that and the fact I've always wanted a laser printer. Despite the random clanking/clicking noises it makes, this thing is a workhorse of a printer, as it prints INSANELY fast. For about three years this thing worked effortlessly. Envelopes, however, it'll stumble HARD. Then... everything this machine prints became lighter to the point of being straight trash, not to mention the colors were way off. The printer toners were replaced once; so, its not that. They still read kinda full. Tried to have the machine to maintain itself (in the menu, there's an option to adjust print quality). NONE of the operations completed, with pop up errors about not being able to complete said operation. I reset the machine, nothing helped, even followed online tutorials, those didn't work. Therefore, I had to take it back to the store, which in itself is a hassle as this thing the size of a mini-fridge. Grab a buggy. Also to add, while trying to find a solution, there were other reviews (Y**tube and forums) that made mention after a certain amount of time this printer will "not work right anymore". Well isn't that just wonderful /s. Get the warranty.

    Solid Printer With Frustrating Installation

I had been thinking about replacing my old multifunction color laser printer when I came across this Canon imageCLASS MF645Cdw multifunction color laser printer, so I decided to give it a shot. The printer itself does a good job. It comes with the toner packs pre-installed. They are somewhat small, so I'm a little concerned about how many copies I'll get from these toner packs. I really appreciate that it can natively print double-sided pages. That alone is worth the upgrade from my old printer. But I am incredibly disappointed in the setup process. To be clear, I am a bit of a geek and am used to setting up equipment on my home network. I tried installing this printer with two different Windows 11 computers, using only WiFi for one and a LAN connection for the other. As of this writing, only the one via LAN has been able to utilize the printer. The WiFi setup did not work despite multiple attempts. I then uninstalled the drivers on the one I had done with a LAN connection and tried to set up from that computer via WiFi. Still no dice. My phone also could not find the printer via our WiFi network. I was excited when I found a QR code link in the on-screen settings for mobile device setup. But it didn't work with my Android phone. Perhaps it was set to only work with an iPhone, but it didn't say that anywhere. Fortunately, I was able to add it directly via IP address, but that also means it is bypassing my WiFi network, and I don't have any remote print capability from my phone. In case you're wondering whether I had it properly connected to my WiFi network, it says it is connected and it was able to check for updates and download them with the LAN cable disconnected. I even tried connecting the LAN cable to my router, which can serve as a print server. Still no dice printing wirelessly. It's a bit bizarre that the printer comes with a setup CD. We had moved a few months ago, and I no longer even have a CD drive in any of my computers. I had to go through boxes in my attic to find an external drive that was still packed up. Of course, the fact my CD drive was packed up is not Canon's fault, but it wouldn't have been a problem if the printer came with instructions to download the drivers or had an easier setup process. Similarly, I did not see a helpful mobile app from Canon. Perhaps they have one, but they do not make it easy to find. The printed documentation didn't have a QR code that might link to an app or any reference to an app. In short, the setup was a miserable experience that negatively colors my impression of this otherwise perfectly good printer. My only other complaints are: 1. The touch screen is too touchy, which leads to opening the wrong tab while trying to scroll, and 2. The printer goes to sleep in something like 3 seconds of inactivity. Granted, it usually still prints, but not always. If the setup process were as straightforward as my last printer - which is a different brand and more than 10 years old - I would have been thrilled with this Canon printer. Alas, that was not to be. In terms of print quality, speed, and noise, I am satisfied with the quality of this Canon. But the WiFi issues render it largely useless for me at this point. My router is a high-end Orbi. I suspect the Canon has some sort of compatibility issue with my Orbi, which is also somewhat bizarre. I really don't know quite what to make of this situation. It appeared most other reviews said the setup was easy, but I did see at least one other review indicating the setup was more complicated than it needed to be. Maybe that individual also has a Linksys router.

I have been using this color MFP printer for a little bit. I will say this thing is packed with features for the price. I have worked for five years fixing and maintaining printers, and this one is built pretty nicely. I am very impressed with the quality you get. It has all the features you would want like scan to USB, and scan to email paper types, and Etc… The touch screen is very nice and makes it feel way more modern. Unpacking it was very easy it’s not too heavy which is good. There are no hidden stickers inside which is good for making it more user friendly unpacking process even easier. The copy quality is great. I did a test print with color gradients and I also did a test copy and the colors look very accurate on the original. The copy looked very close to the original. It is quite fast, but it is kind of loud, but that is what you expect from a laser printer. The toners come with the drum so most print quality issues will be fixed when the timers are replaced. It is big but not overly big which makes it perfect for you home business use. This printer is great.

This Canon laser printer has all the bells and whistles (except for fax; but who needs fax??)—but it has everything I will need for my small business. Specified document scanning, photo, OCR, etc. I think Canon’s got printing down—printer speed, print quality, load management, connectivity. These are features that are needed on a daily basis. However, getting there is another thing because installation is not easy. I mean, it is not hard, especially for someone savvy like me. Some steps are pretty basic—the printer does not have that many hardware components. It’s practically taking tapes off and plugging it in. However, settings, software and drivers for this, is not simple for your average person. First of all, the device is not plug and play—I had to set up the printer through adding new printers in your PC after I have connected the printer to my network so my pc will recognize it. The touchscreen is not very responsive. It is difficult to navigate through the printer screen interface and the touch screen itself is not helpful. I do not have big hands at all, but it keeps pressing some other menu selections that I am not selecting. If you prefer to use the provided CD— umm, this is 2023. Only dinosaurs have CD roms for CD use. And for people who still probably listens to CDs, they will not have the technical acumen to tinker with the feature-rich settings of this device. Again for me, I have the patience and know-how to do these. For my Uncle Bert, he needs some IT help. The manuals are not very intuitive either. I had to use the web to get actual software, not just the drivers, to be able to scan. They are not readily available in Microsoft stores or through a websearch—you have to know what to pick. Again, Uncle Bert will not be happy. Now let’s say my niece Madeline who just started her dropship business, who will be printing packing slips all day—sure, she will be happy with this when it is ALREADY working. However, at set up, Maddie will pull her hair—because she has lived in a world of apps where things are plug-and-play, and her touchscreens are highly responsive 120hz screens. Again, for the main things that we use a printer for, this one is great. It prints well, and it does it fast. Scans are clear, and you can adjust settings to your preferences. The usability still needs help for this to be a full consumer only device. This is great for offices where there is a specified knowledgeable person to set it up. But I can’t expect Uncle Bert or Maddie to tinker with the network and security settings, even to just adjust the send preferences. I like Canon, but the user-experience on this machine needs improvement.

After burning through nearly a dozen inkjet printer whose only purpose seems to burn through costly consumables with a notoriously high failure rate, this laser printer seems like it's built to last. While the initial outlay is more expensive, laser printers seem way less problematic in terms of clogged printheads, paper jams and false readings on ink levels that interfere with workflow productivity. Only time will tell.
