    Solid printer. With Issues

LOOKS: ----------- Almost no one cares about this aspect of a printer. Usually printers are purpose driven. However if you are looking for a device that look great on your desk or stand, this printer won't disappoint. CONSTRUCTION: ------------------------ Heavier than many other laser printers in the similar class. There are many cheap plastic materials used throughout the device. However they are in no verge of breaking anytime soon. The Toner re-loading door is a classic example of this device's overall quality. It doesn't properly latch and seal all the way as one would expect; as there is a minor gap between. SETTING UP/COMPATIBILITY: ----------------------------------------- It is extremely easy to setup on the Network. Once you give it the WiFi credentials, you should be able to easily add it as a Network printer on your choice of computing Device. Paired well with a Mac and works without any drivers for Printing and Scanning. Mobile devices such as iPad and iPhones can see the device over the Network as well. Initial setup included a surprise print page and the scan of it to calibrate colors. It was a welcome addition and painless process. FAX: ------ This is a component that is used rarer and rarer these days. If you are using this in a office setting, you can rely on this to work when it needs to. However, the ADF is finicky. It often crumbles a corner or side of the paper. It does not happen to all the papers you put on the feed, but it happens occasionally. SCAN: --------- Paper crumbling or damage on the ADF is to be expected. Single pass Double Side Scan is a huge bonus and the Image quality on ADF and Flatbed is crisp for an office use. PRINT: --------- The print quality confuses me a bit. A document can be re-printed a few times and you'll notice the same color appear in a slightly different shade from each other in some pages. This is not a photo printer. It is a well rounded office printer. As such, you can expect terrific office quality prints out of this Canon. If you need to print photos occasionally, then this is not your device of choice. Colors may not have the typical "Pop" the user expects and the resolution to support the details of the image may not be there. PRINT CYCLE - I am not sure why the prior model had a Duty Cycle of "50,000". However this model comes with "Recommended Monthly Volume" of 750-4000. For the end user, it feels as if the prior model is better suited for Volume printing in an office setting. Use of abstract terminologies as such should be avoided to minimize end-user confusion. Would have preferred if Canon would also state a "Duty Cycle" for folks who look for that number. VERDICT: ------------- It is a great addition to any home office/small office environment; as long as you have reasonable expectations. Toner itself is outrageously expensive for what it is. As the printer is new to the market, there are no 3rd party/Off Branded Toner support as of yet. If you are business that is planning to deplete the Starter set within a week, do have that in mind and be ready to invest in a full set of Toners that can run you between 400-800'ish (depending on the time and YIELD).

Great Printer, weak wifi setup instructions

I bought the MF743Cdw printer for my home network instead of the HP counterpart because of Canon price and warranty advantages. I had read that some buyers had wifi issues which was of some concern and I learned why. The setup out of the box was easy if you use the online instructions. The manual that comes in the box seems to be directed more towards an office environment that requires a remote U/I (user interface) that I don't require at home. I was able to unbox and fully set up the print, scan, and fax capabilities, complete with updated drivers in about twenty minutes. However, the next day, my computer and iphones couldn't find the printer. I called Canon support and after a long wait was able to talk to a very helpful and professional tech person. The issue involves the use of dynamic IP addresses on my home network. I had done everything correctly, but failed to turn off the sleep function on the printer. Therefore, everytime it went to sleep, it had to retrieve a new IP address from the router. Simple solution was to turn off the sleep function. However, the tech advised that the unit sometimes has issues with the Apple Bonjour software and advised that we set up a fixed IP address. He walked me through that process in about ten minutes. All is well now. Great tech support. Canon should point out that if the sleep mode is on, the dynamic IP function will cause the printer to go offline every time it goes to sleep. Also, if they can't fix the Bonjour interface, they should include detailed instructions on how to set a fixed IP address using an Apple computer. Printer, scanner and fax are all significant upgrades from my previous inkjet arrangement.

    Very Reliable

This printer has been extremely reliable. I’ve had it almost four years and it’s given me no trouble. You also do t have any messy waste toner container to deal with. Canon isn’t as well known as other brands, but their quality is as good or better than others.

Excellent printer. Does a great job on photos, and was easy to set up. It is heavy. You might need help to get it inside and unboxed.

Not a bad printer-duplex scan and print is nice. Its big, heavy as others have noted. Color is not the greatest-can seem washed out on some things.

I consider myself to be pretty skilled in setting up printers and running any application software. I have installed- at least 5 times from their website. For a while, reinstalling the printer EVERY time i needed to print worked. Now that doesn't. I've had it a week. The printing quality is great. The software is trash. Won't wake up. Won't respond to the computer. Trash. I just need it to do it's job.

Terrible manual and difficult to wifi connect

Just bought, couldn't connect to wifi even though I'm an experienced computer user. Then on phone on hold for half hour. Finally reached a very helpful and knowledgeable person but still no luck connecting to WiFI. Cannon's Online video instruction does not correspond to reality on printer, i.e. video say's I'll see one thing but I see something completely different on printer screen. Manual is absolutely worthless on this. Also, ominous warning attachment on printer says do not connect USB before installing software, but then says nothing about how to do this. HUGELY frustrating. DO NOT RECOMMEND PURCHASE

Canon Imageclass Laser Do NOT Buy

    Posted .

Hate this printer. Scan quality is very poor. Scans multiple page documents fed in the document feeder as color scans into individual JPEG documents instead of as one color PDF. Crazy. Paper jams all the time and can't clear it. Loses connection to WiFi constantly and printer has to be restarted. Regret buying.

This is the worst printer I have ever bought. Loses connectivity (says no printer connected, no scanner connected) often. I am very tech saavy, and this printer has frustrated me SOOO much I am willing to throw it away and lose $500. The newest problem is that it continuously says "out of paper", despite being full of paper. Google this, and see for yourself. Canons drivers are terrible, and lead to all types of errors. Avoid like the plague. I warned you! Your time is worth more than the headache that comes with this MF700 series of laser printers/scanners.
