Fun Concept, OK Images, Needs Lots of Paper
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The IVY Cliq+ from Canon is an instant camera that snaps photos and prints them immediately on peel-and-stick photo paper. The concept is a lot of fun, but the execution is somewhat disappointing. I’ve taken few photos so far with the Cliq+, which has a viewfinder for traditional photos and a large mirror around the lens on the front to help line up selfies. The picture quality was just so-so, slightly grainy and a little bit washed out. Also, even with the mirror, it can be a little tricky to make sure selfies were lined up properly. Keep in mind, though, that this is an instant camera, intended for capturing moments quickly and printing them immediately... not necessarily for the highest quality image capture, or even the most perfectly centered subjects. I also printed a few photos from my phone using the companion app. This essentially turns the Cliq+ into an ultra-compact photo printer that connects to your device via Bluetooth. These images, which I had taken with my smartphone, came out much better, with richer colors and better clarity. For anyone who already carries a smart phone with a decent camera, this might be the best feature of the Cliq+. My least favorite thing about the Cliq+, though, is the paper capacity, paper price, and how quickly it goes through paper. It comes with a starter pack containing 10 sheets of Zink photo paper, which the printer requires. Every time you snap a photo with the Cliq+, it prints. There’s no screen to preview the shot and/or decide whether it’s good enough to print. Ten presses of the shutter button and you need to stop and reload. The paper isn’t inexpensive, either. This really takes some of the fun out of the experience. On the plus side, the Zink technology eliminates the need for ink, so the only consumable supply you need to purchase is the paper. I’d use the Cliq+ camera more if there was a preview screen that I can use to decide which images are worth using up a sheet of Zink paper for. Lacking that, I’ll probably end up using it mostly as a portable photo printer, sending images that I’ve taken (and edited) with my phone. Overall, the Cliq+ is ok, but not great. It might be a good fit for someone who is into capturing moments, sharing them immediately, and who doesn’t mind buying/loading paper often. Or, for someone who wants a very compact photo printer that also happens to also have an ok-quality camera built-in for the occasional whimsical snapshot. But it will probably be a letdown if you’re expecting very high-quality images that you can preview before deciding to print, or want to snap and print all day without stopping to reload.

A mixed bag.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you purchase this for novelty or for a young child then I could recommend it. Being able to print your photos and have them as stickers is cool. Scrapbooking, parties or just as a keep sake and I think you’ll be happy with the photos. The camera isn’t bad but isn’t great, it’s really best used in good lighting even when using the flash. My biggest issue with this camera is that there is no way to preview the photo before it prints, even if you use an SD card. Removing the paper and having only the SD card in it, won’t allow you to take the photo and save it to the SD card either. I know back in the day you couldn’t preview your photo, but when marrying old tech with new, this to me seems like an oversight. The biggest reason, the paper is not cheap, the paper runs about $25 for 50 or $.50 each if it’s not on sale. You should have been able to turn on/off a “preview photo before print” feature within the app. I’m not sure if Canon can implement this through a software update, but if they can that would be very huge. This one feature alone could save people a lot of wasted paper. When using this to print photos from your phone, you can obviously do this and change things about the photo, why Canon did not at least add the option to do that in the app is beyond me. This may seem like it would be redundant since you could just take it with your phone, but you would at least not waste a lot of paper on bad photos. With that said, if you’re mainly going to print photos from your phone, you might as well just buy the printer and save some money. I have and love the Canon ivy printer and was hopeful for this, but not at least having the option to preview your photo before you waste paper is a let down.

A good follow up to the polaroid, but barely
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What makes this camera good is two things. First is the built in inkless printer, and second is the ability to print from your phone/tablet using the Canon mini print app. And really, that's about it. The rest of this camera is not very good at its job. To start, it has a gimmicky "selfie" lense to use for snapping pictures of yourself, but the reflection piece is dull and hard to see yourself in. Next, the actual shutter button to take the picture is super sensitive and found myself accidentally clicking the button several times which leads to number three; that pictures print automatically, and with the lack of a review screen or sequence, it leads to a lot of unwanted pictures and wasted photo paper. The paper is easy to load though and is fairly inexpensive for refills. You can print in 2x2 or 2x3 form. The camera does come with a flash toggle, and can switch between off, fill, and auto. The viewfinder has picture boarders in it to help with lining up your shot for a clean print. It does have a rechargeable battery and seems to hold charge for quite a long time. It does have an auto power off after a couple minutes of no activity. What does come in somewhat handy, but is seemingly counter to having a print camera in the first place is the ability to print pictures from your phone using the app. It works fairly well and is easy to set up. The app does come with its own editor which has several good features to it and is enjoyable. After starting the print, the cycle takes roughly 30 seconds to print the picture out. The quality of the picture when printed is actually really good, but the paper is not the best. When I hung up some pictures I took, the sides of the paper curled into itself after a couple days, which makes is hard to present a gallery of these pictures with out having to tape all sides down. Overall, this camera feels like it would be best in the hands of a child to play with and take pictures and print out their own little mini picture collection. Linking with your phone or tablet is gimmicky. You are better off taking pictures with your phone and just using the camera as a printer than you are using the camera as a camera. It has a lot of potential to grow into something better, and the inkless printing is the coolest part of this, but hard to say it is worth it for the configuration it is in.

Not an everyday camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although these days your mobile phone is your everyday camera. Hauling this camera around would be for the sole purpose of having instant photos, which is most likely not a majority of occasions, but that is for each individual to determine. Let's start with the good. The Canon IVY CLIQ Plus camera is portable, should fit into pockets and purses with no problem. The camera has a quality feel to it as some, unlike some other instant cameras I have seen that are bulky and all plastic. The quality of the photos are decent in terms of instant photography. The technology behind the Zink (Zero Ink) paper is pretty amazing. Your choice of 2"×3" or 2"×2" photos come prints out in less than a min for instant sharing of photos. The mobile app adds additional functionality such as adding effects and stickers to the photos as well as giving you the option of printing photos off your mobile device, effectively make this a portable photo printer as well. The generous sized mirror in front around the lens making selfie captures a breeze. Here are some of the complaints I have with this camera. There is no LCD to review photos. This would probably increase the cost of the camera, but what this means is that you are truly back in time with "you get what you get". There are no options to print what photos you want, all photos taken with the camera will print immediately. At around $0.50 per print, it would be nice to control your prints as this could add up which is why is why I say it is not an everyday camera. Because of not being able to toggle between photos, the "reprint" option is only good for the last photo taken. Also disappointed that there is no zoom what so ever. You are pretty much locked in to your 2 size print options. The camera services its purpose for instant photos, it is missing some flexibility that people would want to have in order to want to carry it around with them more often.

Iffy photo quality from an otherwise "ok" camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: Compact size (especially considering it is also a printer) Great build quality Connects to phone(s) seamlessly with no hiccups Useful/fun in specific environments (wedding, party, backyard get-together, etc etc etc) Printer quality - even bad pictures are printed nicely, and nice shots (when/if you can manage one) look REALLY great Cons: Button layout - some buttons interfere with hand position while holding the body when going to pick it up or during printing. My wife snapped two photos the first time she picked it up and a third one while trying to move her hand to ready for printing another. There really needs to be a "lockout" feature or something simple like on electric shavers so that you can't depress the shutter button. Image/picture quality - photos almost always appear way too dark, straight out of a disposable 1999/2000 era camera The specific paper is still pricey and you HAVE to have it in order for the camera to work, which is ridiculous IMO. You have a paperweight the moment they decide to stop making this specific paper.

Good for quick prints
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Blue color is pretty-middle of the road blue, not too flashy, not too dark. You get only a one-piece visual instruction card: That you need to charge it, put the zink paper packet in, take a picture to print, and you can download an app. A QR code is given so that you go to the correct app. After this, I was unhappy with the process. No how to use it instructions, and you have to dig around online to find what you need (https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/explore/solutions-services/mobile-apps/ivy-faq). You have to locate the flash button info separately evidently (https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART173929&cat=0347B001&actp=LIST). The print quality is pretty good. I’m happy with that. Note that photos taken with the camera will automatically print. I think I’ll like this better as a mini printer for parties, since I have the Cliq+ and an iPhone, but who knows, it might turn out to be handy (maybe?) to have the camera and lights features in some cases. I had trouble figuring out when it was going to actually print my selected photo from my phone, so I’ll dig around for more info on that. After attending a party where they did these little photos (with the old-fashioned Polaroid style printout) I thought it would be fun for our parties. I like the option for the sticky back paper that came with it. I think I’d recommend just going with the mini printer version, versus this one with the camera features. As I said, I’ll probably wind up doing my photo taking with my iPhone and choose which ones to print.

Polaroid for 2019!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Ivy Cliq+ is an interesting new take on the Polaroid for 2019. I found a niche for it, but I"m not sure everyone will find it as useful as I do. Typical of Canon products, which I have come to love, the build is excellent, with solid-feeling plastics and buttons. One thing that does bum me out a little on this particular camera is the lack of a replaceable/removable battery. The Ivy Cliq+ is a fully featured but basic digital camera. With an 8MP lens, microSD slot, a built-in flash ring and a large selfie mirror, this camera is perhaps directed at the youngest of cellhpone or perhaps non-cellhpone users. The ZINK printer is cute and very functional, with the camera including 10 sheets of the little 2x3 stickers. The size borders on almost not useful, but in my house, they got used up right away. The need for no ink in the printer is a neat feature, and the ability of the Cliq+ to be a wireless printer for photos from cellphones with the canon app via Bluetooth expands the usefulness of this camera. Overall I like this camera & printer combo. I think it's got some neat uses and I'm still exploring them. That being said for the price I could definitely buy my kids a lot nicer digital camera and let them order some prints online and have larger more useful keepsakes. The small size of the 2x3 stickers is probably my biggest sticking point keeping me from giving this product more stars.

Cool little camera, bad execution
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the money its a little overprice, but its a neat design. The photos arent the sharpest quality, more blurry and out of focus. With todays tech I expect it to print clearer pics for the cost. Its a great idea, just not executed well. With steady hands this camera takes blurry out of focus prints.

not the quality you'd expect
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Despite this camera being a Canon, it seems pretty cheap in quality. Unboxing was simple, just the camera, wrist strap, charging cable, and a pack of film. I've used the Fuji version and the new Polaroid. It does print the photo out quickly, and the film has a sticky back to be able to stick the photos on stuff. There is a mirror on the front to be able to take a selfie which is a really cool idea. I wasn't pleased with the quality of the picture when I did a few selfies. It looked kind of grainy.

Interesting Throwback with Questionable Quality
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This camera is attempting to provide an option for people that want to print pictures right away and not have to wait for a printer. It's an interesting throwback to the Instamatic days but unclear why this would be needed now. The came is pretty well built but the picture quality on the paper is marginal. Having to purchase the print paper over time is an additional cost as well. If you need to print pictures on the spot, this is a good option, For everything else, it may not be worth your time.
