Second Best Printer I Ever Had

This printer is so good that it is difficult to know where to begin my accolades. It is a lot smaller than I expected, even a lot shorter in height than standard printers. Of course, its footprint is larger than a regular printer, but not by much. It is mainly a little wider than a regular printer. I'm really impressed how diminutive it appears. Canon's engineers did an excellent design job on this printer. Setup was very easy. I used the WPS button on my wireless router and it linked almost instantly. At first I thought it must not have worked because it happened so quickly. I did not connect it via a USB cable. I'm not much of a fan of the junky L shaped desktop icon - uses up a lot of space with several icons of dubious value. I may delete it later. You are limited to only one paper size at a time, but that's not such a big deal considering the range of print sizes you can create. I printed a 4X6 inch print, an 8.5X11 and 13X19 inch prints. That's pretty much the spectrum of what you would normally print. It is a surprisingly fast printer. It isn't an all-in-one printer; it's just a printer - no scanner, no fax and no copy capability. I realize this is advertised to only be a business printer insinuating its photo capabilities to be perhaps at best average. But I still wanted to determine the limitations of its photo printing capability. I already own a Canon Pro-100 and the Canon Pro-9000 Mark II printer that print 13X19 photo prints, so I wasn't expecting this 5 ink printer's photo capability to be in the same league. And in some cases it isn't - it's even better than my two other photo printers for richness of colors. That doesn't mean it faithfully reproduces the original image, but it does produce very pleasing photos where fine color accuracy isn't a terribly important objective. Paper type makes a huge difference no matter which printer you are using. The paper is as important as the ink in many situations. I really didn't want to print several duplicate 13X19 prints, but that was the only way to do a direct and fair comparison. As you would expect, the Pro-100 is clearly much better for faithful reproductions of portraits of people where skin tone and texture matter - especially on a large 13X19 inch print. However, if you didn't have a direct comparison print from a Canon Pro-100, you would still say that's a really good print. I printed several prints of scenery and historical buildings and I thought this office printer's prints actually looked better than the Canon Pro-100 printer in terms of color saturation and richness of color.

After many years of buying Epson or HP printers, I finally tried a Canon iP5000. I LOVED it. When it died abruptly, I was up the proverbial creek. I tried to go inexpensive and bought a Canon iP7220. I do NOT need or want an "all-in-one" but I do want/need a printer that, on occasion, can do a quality photo. The iP7220 would NOT print an envelope correctly no matter what I tried; it also has other failings like a tiny paper drawer. I returned it and bought this model at approximately 2.5 x the cost. The iX6820 has the rear paper feed that I prefer and will hold, I think, up to 250 sheets in reserve. I am TROUBLED by the way you print envelopes, but it appears to be fairly standard these days. You must REMOVE all the paper in the feed slot. Insert the envelope in the feeder more or less centered. MOVE the paper alignment holders to center the envelope and print. THEN you must realign the paper guides and reload your regular paper. WHAT A PIA! Once we got the printer installed on my wife's laptop and signed into our house wifi (this took a bit of doing), it works beautifully in wireless mode! I can't tell if this one sucks up ink quite yet. I will revise my review when I have some observations on that subject. I understand that this printer WILL accommodate 11x14 or larger photo paper. That is an exciting possibility! Note that this printer has a large footprint.

I purchased this printer to replace a earlier generation HP medium format printer. I compared several Medium format brands and models. I read reviews and compared features. This printer has met or exceeded all of my expectations. I am an Architect who frequently uses a 36"X24" format. I PDF my drawing files and then print them at 50% scale, resulting in an 18"X12" format. This size is much easier to take to meetings and is more convenient to keep around the office. This printer produces highly accurate prints with a mix of fine line work, screens, graytone, halftone and full color images all on one sheet. The output speed is very good. I have produced several full color glossy prints which are well rendered and have very good color reproduction. Excellent covers for reports and marketing materials. The machine is normally displayed in the closed position. During operation the rear (input) tray will need to be extended and the front (output) tray will need to be extended. Opening the trays during printing will require a space of about 10"-12" behind the printer and 8"-10" in front of the paper. When finished simply fold in the trays and the printer is very compact and attractive. I keep my unit closed when it is not in operation to keep out dust and foreign objects. Overall I give the printer 5 stars.

I only bought this printer for one purpose, to address advertising post cards I get from my commercial printing house. Commercial mailing houses use super fast inkjets that cost thousands of dollars to address mailers/postcards. This printer works perfectly fine for that, and it's fairly fast to boot. The printer has a fairly straight print path, from the flip up tray on the rear of the printer to the output tray in the front. It fed through postcards printed on 14 point (about equal to 114 pound index stock) cardstock just fine. I think the fact that this can print on 13x19 inch paper, they built in a more robust feeding system, which handles the postcards without any misfeeds at all! The ink dries within 20 minutes. I'm happy with this printer for the purpose that I'm using it for. Most commercial mail houses charge around 8 to 10 cents a postcard address, and I've already run through 700 postcards, so 2 more mailings of 700 cards, and the printer has paid off for itself!

Does it have the drivers for older PCs?

The answer is: the program that is provided with the pixma ix6820 canon printer actually will search online for you and download the drivers needed. What a relief! At first I couldn't get it to print, but once I got to the troubleshooting part of the program it handled the problem with the driver. Very simple, and kudos to Canon for staying one step ahead of all the other brands. Prints beautifully from either my editing programs or my own folders. Be sure to go in to printing preferences and choose correct settings like paper type, quality, and portrait or landscape. You can also use the printers provided program as well. I've always had a more professional printer so I'm very picky indeed. But so far the prints are excellent. I do not use the wireless. The 13x19 print available is an added plus.

    Goodbye HP, Hello Canon

After having problems with my hp printer - printing with streaks and printing askew, then replacing it with another hp printer that had to be returned for printing with dots, I gave up on hp and bought the Canon. My only complaint about the Canon is that the colors aren't quite as saturated as with my hp envy. There is the option of adjusting the colors and brightness so it seems to take a few trys with the Canon to get it right (for photos).. Other than that it prints photos beautifully. Also there is the option of printing large. The inks seem to last a little longer than the hp printer. For the price it's a great printer. Best Buy has a ship free next day on inks so I've started using that service and am really happy about that.

I purchased the printer because I needed an inkjet printer with high definition prints that printed in larger formats than 8 1/2 x 11. This machine does 14 x 19.. which is the largest I could find at the time. I use the printer to make High Quality Photographic Negatives for Contact Exposures for Ageotype, Ambrotype, Cyanotype, Platinum, and Carbon Transfer Printing of photos. It does pretty good.. but I'd prefer that it allow hi def printing at the larger print sizes. It also drinks thru the cartridges like a two fisted drinker at a bar. Two complete sets of new cartridges costs as much as the printer.. I've been living at Cartridge World as the six cartridges the machine comes with are half filled. I'd love for a printer to be made that you can fill with ink like the commercial models.

I LOOOVE this printer! I did extensive research on most liked printers and this one popped up in reviews pretty often. I compared it to the newer printers too but this one STILL had great reviews. Even though it was a few years old since release, I decided to buy it. Newer is not necessarily always better so I went for this one based on previous reviews. I also purchased it to print larger sizes (ie 12x18 and 13x19) for my daughters artwork and for crafting, even though I can and do print documents on it too. The print quality is very clean. I'm VERY happy to have this printer. I wish it scanned, but I knew it didn't have that feature when I purchased it, however that would make it the perfect printer!

I actually bought a different model PIXMA first, based on a “Best AirPrint Printers of 2018” article, but it turned out to be wrong for my situation in several different ways. After a bit of research, I found this model which uses the same size ink cartridges, fits in my space, has better documentation, and works flawlessly (so far) with my home WiFi. Additionally it prints much more quickly and quietly than the 8 year old printer it is replacing. And it prints two-sided through some magic of paper feeding that I can’t quite figure out. I have not yet used the scan or copy functions, or printed any photos, to judge quality in those other areas. But for solid printer functionality over a WiFi network, this is a great printer at a good price.

HUGE disappointing product carrying the Canon name

I have been an avid Canon product owner (professional photography equipment mostly for the last 10 years) and have never met a Canon product I didn't like or didn't see as good quality, until I met this printer. Not only was it a total pain in the rear to set up but once it was it doesn't want to print on Canon's own professional grade printer paper. When I attempt to print on photo paper I get an error message that there's no paper in the rear tray but as soon as I put regular copy/printer paper in it works. A "photo printer" that won't print on "photo paper"??? Such a shame. I was hoping to print small proofs for clients/home but guess I'll have to take this one back.

Easy to set up. Easy to install software. I liked the led lights on the ink cartridges that light when inserted properly. I set the printer to grey scale as I use it only to print tabloid sized architectural / construction plans. The top feeding paper path works perfectly every time with excellent detail accuracy for auto-cad engineering plans. Startup time and print output is fast. The printer shuts off after factory set inactivity timeout. The power button must be manually pressed to restart the printer. Large but lightweight with a sleek modern look for an oversize paper printer.

This printer was an excellent choice! I was looking for a printer that would print up to 11x14 size. Be advised that this printer is large. It does take up a lot of desk real estate. Most images of the printer just show a picture coming out of the printer in a folded up state. By the time you open up the feeder guides and the catch tray, a lot of room is needed. I know some will miss having a small lcd operating panel on the printer, but you get used to working with the software on your computer or device. I wanted a dependable, high quality photo printer and that is what this printer is.

Have always been a Pixma fan--produces good photos. Haven't had printer long but seems solid Occasionally will be very slow to process from being told to print to actually doing the printing--this is not consistent and was noted in several tech reviews I read prior to purchase. Drawbacks I have noticed: dark ink tanks (I don't like relying on the printer telling me about the ink as I found when the cartridges were clear that the printer wanted them changed long before necessary. Also this is a large printer--obviously to accommodate the increased size printing option. Nonetheless it is long.

I purchased this printer because I wanted something that would do larger format prints. This unit provides that feature, if not much else. Print quality is fantastic on just about any paper type I've used. While printing is surprisingly fast, the printer does have to think for several minutes before starting to print larger images and other files. If you want something that is fast, good quality, and especially inexpensive, for medium to large format prints, this is one of the best options.

I have been super happy with this printer. We bought it to print out pictures taken at shows a few times a year. Speed is therefore important, and it can't be too heavy to lug around. The speed is quite good on this. Takes about 2 minutes to print an 8x10 color photo. The pictures come out looking great too. Every is pleased. It's a little heavy, but not as bad as some.

I bought this printer to replace a Canon PIXMA IP4920 that I wore out after 7 years of professional use. I'm a Art Director in commercial film and I used it a lot. I decided to buy this printer on the advice of a Canon rep that was at my local Best Buy store. It was on sale an it was too hard to pass up. I'm glad I bought it. Photo prints are excellent and the speed is good too. Wireless connectivity is nice. I highly recommend this printer.

This printer was a replacement for the iP8720. I chose the Pixma iX because the printer head was different and more capable of printing dots closer together on matte type paper than the iP. I am absolutely loving this printer for thicker paper needs! The rear tray is a luxery, not a nuisance, and although the printer is pretty wide, I enjoy using it for professional size prints.

This printer prints beautiful pictures. I really miss the controls being right on the printer as on my old HP printer. I did not even have to turn on my desktop.. For this one all controls are on my desktop- absolutely nothing is on the printer. Also, for some reason it keeps losing the WiFi signal from the router (I purchased a new router at the same time as the printer-very powerful.) I have to go on my desk top every other day and reconnect the printer.

The printer was the only one that I could find that met my requirements. I have not used if very much but I am satisfied with the printing. I have spent almost 4 hours with Canon support on the telephone trying to get it to work as a wireless printer to no avail. They always ended up telling me the problem was with my internet provider which does not make sense to me. I am currently using it on my wired network which is not my first choice.

I bought this for my craft room, as I wanted a printer that could print on 12x12 scrapbook paper. It is not a small printer, but it is not as bulky as other wide-format printers I've seen. I also use it to print photos, and the quality is comparable to places like Walgreens or Wal-Mart. I am not sure about ink life yet, because I've only had it a few days.
