So far it’s a good replacement for the MX922

I’ve owned the Canon MX882 and recently the MX922. Both served me well but hoped they lasted longer than the 4-5 years for each, considering my son’s MX870 outlived both my older printers. My primary requirement is the need to scan and print legal sized paper and the 8520 can easily do that.
The build quality of the 8520 compared to the MXs looks inferior and flimsy, definitely not the tank-like MX line. I’ve been doing a lot less printing so hopefully this won’t be an issue.
Sure the footprint is significantly reduced but the front panel needs to be open all the time to print, adding about 5 inches to its depth, even more so if the paper catcher is fully extended. Would have been nice if the panel can be closed manually and would automatically open when it starts a print job (just like the MX).
Overall it checks all the boxes and was very easy to set up.

The printer is good but the set up wasn't as smooth as I would have liked. It takes a long time for the printer to be found and then longer still to print. The print quality is excellent when it does print.
During the registration process I was trying to sign up for the Best Buy easy ink replacement and couldn't. I went to my local Best Buy today for help and no one there could help me. That is a poor reflection on Best Buy, not the Canon printer. I am going to uninstall the printer and start all over again to see if that helps.
I need to scan 2 documents and am not looking forward to it.
I wish the paper tray held more paper, but that is my fault for not reading more carefully. I also wish that when I hit Print on my computer the printer would automatically turn on. It never occurred to me to look for that.
For all of the little things, I would not recommend this printer.

bought this printer along with a new computer , I got a discount by buying both together so the price was right . Had no problems setting up the printer. instructions were easy to follow. print quality is good. Just make sure the panel on the front with the power button is flipped up or it will not print.

This printer has pluses and minuses. Pluses: It is incredibly easy to setup; works with Windows, Linux, Chromebook, and Apple devices; the multiple ink reservoirs promise to lower ink cost (the first cartridges drain quickly because they fill the system, later ones should last longer). Minus: the scanner isn't as good for photos as the previous 2-cartridge Canon this replaces. Arguably for the price it could be 5 stars, but the lower scan quality knocks it down a star. If I can fine tune the scan properties and expand the dynamic range I'll take it up a star.

Setup wirelessly with an apple MacBook Pro.
Have used all features numerous times except the fax. Scanning is easy and fast as well as fully configurable (resolution, color, output file type etc)
Great printer at price point, nice size, control panel folds down with retractable tray when not in use. So far so good. I would recommend.

Excellent printer, easy to set up. And I don't say that lightly. I have bought and returned several because I could not get the wireless portion set up. This one was ready to go on the 1st try. It prints beautiful clear colour Pictures.
No complaints.
Nice looking machine as well.

Purchased PIXMA TR4500 Series that I returned due to paperjam. This was the only printer left on the shelf other than 300 - 400.00 printers. Didn't plan on spending $90 more but glad I did. So far this printer has exceeded my expectations, print beautifully, easy to set up & use. Happy with this purchase!!!

It's been a few years since I bothered with printing photos at home. Last time I did it, the quality was clearly still inferior to just printing photos up at the local pharmacy or whatever for a few cents an image. This Canon printer has changed my opinion on that front. The 4x6 images are borderless and are indiscernible from anything I'd have printed at the 'Greens. Even 8.5x11 can be printed edge to edge without any borders. I'd bought a box of ink cartridges for when the default ones that come with the printer are used up, but so far they're still kicking.
I've also used the scanner a few times. It scans. 10/10 would scan again.
Setup was remarkably easy -- never had to plug it into a computer or anything to get it on my wireless network. It does try to get you to install an app etc for mobile printing, but it's not necessary for setup nor use.

Set up went really well using on line setup. Someone said paper flys onto floor, but they must not have found the paper catcher and pulled it out. Another person mentioned have to turn it on all the time. Go into the settings and play around with it. Got mine so even if it goes to sleep it prints from computer and wireless whenever I hit print. Just like most of the new tech items you have to experiment and play around to get what you need. Manual writers figure everyone knows as much as they do or maybe they don't even know the ins and outs of the item. Only 4 stars because I haven't had it very long.

I like this printer. I actually bought it because I heard the ink lasts a long time. I want to eventually printer colored stickers but haven't tried that yet. It was easy to set up to 2 computers and 1 phone; the scan works great; printer quality is great. Overall, I like it and recommend buying.

I do like the quality of the printer and what it puts out and I appreciate the air print functionality. The only down fall of the printer is the control panel flap. In order to print anything the panel has to be up, but then that causes a risk of dust getting into the printer as well as a possibility of the panel getting snagged when walking by. If you forget that you put the panel down, and you are wanting to air print to it, either you need to be present to open the panel or you cannot print. This causes an issue if you are away from printer/home and trying to print something.

Printer was easy to setup following the enclosed instructions. Quality of printing is good. I use it primarily for printing from my computer, phone and I pad. The only negative is the cost associated with color printing due to the price of the cartridges. I would recommend this printer to someone who does minimum printing on a monthly basis.

my home network has a special setup with my WiFi and my last printer couldn’t connect to it. This printer connected with no problems and prints double sided beautifully. Other printers would print double sided and the ink would bleed through but this one had no issues. Scanning works great and it’s a great size.

I always buy Cannon printers.
This time I TRIED to buy something else but kept coming back to this one.
Set up was easy and the wireless aspect of this printer really makes it even better. I don't print a lot, I'll be using this at home only and am quite confident that it will meet all my needs.

Have only used this printer for about a week but it was very easy to set up to use with my phone, pad, and laptop. And set up for fax also. Pictures print great. So far it seems to be the best printer I’ve ever had. I would recommend it. Only marked a 5 on value because it was on sale when I bought it.

My prior printer was a Pixma that is no longer supported after my Mac OS upgrade, so I had to upgrade to a new printer. After a lot of research, I chose the Pixma TR8520 and have no regrets. What I appreciate about this printer is that it prints both sides of the page, it scans and it faxes. It also prints from my iphone app. My prior version didn't fax and only printed one side unless you reloaded each page. What I miss from the old printer is this printer doesn't print as fast, but fast enough that I can deal with it. Bottom line, I think it was an excellent choice and I would recommend it to others. It did take a bit of time to set it up, but I eventually got there without assistance.
