Easy Set up Printer

I was in the store looking for a compact printer with a powerful punch for my new at home business. It had an easy set up but in my opinion I wish it was a little smaller. Another annoyance I have is the fact that you have to always open the front door of printer before it will print. The all in one printer by HP I purchased for my mom automatically opens but it always has connectivity issues so that is why I wanted to try another brand. Hopefully it will be able to accomplish the many tasks I will be using it for, for a decent amount of time.

The printer was simple to set up with my laptop and works very well from a room across our home. Easy to load paper and the options for print, scan or fax are incredibly simple to use.

I spent a lot of time researching all-in-one printers to use mainly for general printing, photo printing, and scanning abilities. I have always been a fan of Canon products, so eventually I found this product, and I love it! The set up was a bit of a difficulty to get through, but once I finished it, it has been a great! The photo print quality is spectacular. I had a print done at Office Depot and Costco and compared the two with one printed from this printer, and there was no comparison. This print quality is far superior. I will likely be buying another in the future, and I would highly recommend this to others.

Canon PIXMA 8520 - Don't like the Software

Set up was a quick and easy. This replaced a 10 year old HP.
I don't like the Canon software interface. Making scan of a document was a pain. The HP would automatically scan the document and start the software on the computer to load the scanned image. This makes you start the Canon App which is a hassle.
Printing Envelope Addresses from Quicken was also not as easy as the HP. It worked on a No.10 envelope, I have not tried it on a smaller envelope yet. The HP had no problem with either, but I wore it's paper feed mechanism out.
Don't get me wrong, I like the printer, I don't like the software, at least not yet, hopefully that will change.

Prints copies and photos well. Not enough info on how the photo process works prior to purchase and not clear in instructions. Photo paper MUST be loaded in tray separate from print paper or you can’t print a photo. Instructions are ok but fairly generic in the start up process. Really miss an actual paper ‘Manual’. Really inconvenient having to go online for the manual. Just more convenient having the manual in your lap being able to flip pages back and forth while sitting infront of the unit while trying to use the product. Instructions weren’t very clear on where and how the print copies were to be delivered. Also was a little painful trying to reset copier when I had to change routers. Seemed finally (after about an hour) to accidentally get it operating again.
Once able to wirelessly print from phone or laptop, product performs well except for inconvenience of the process to print photos. Use seems alot more complex than the Epson I replaced(unfortunately that one didn’t last very long with moderate use). Would recommend it based on quality of print but caution buyers of its tad bit of complexity in setup/use...

Had a noisy HP that burned ink so fast. Bought this as a replacement and it is a great choice. Not only does it conserve ink better but it fast and quiet. It doesn’t hold that much paper but for if you only need it for occasional use, highly recommend.

Nice size. Print quality is good. Seems like decent value. Setup is pain.
This is what I wrote to Canon:
This printer is a pain to connect. I've tried on multiple laptops both with USB and wifi. Oh it goes through steps and looks like it's connecting....but it won't.
It's a pain to get the right driver on the right machine (even though they are all Windows). If I want to connect my work laptop to it.....I've been on the line with them for the better part of an hour trying to get it to work with JUST USB. AND using the cd-rom it came with.
On my home laptop the USB works. But wifi, oh no. DIRECT-XXXX-TR8500series is on the list. But it says driver not available. That makes no sense. I had it working before. On my phone and two personal laptops. That took 4 hours but I got it working. Then I had to swap out my home modem. Now it doesn't work. That makes no sense. I had the driver before the modem switch....
The driver download from your website...that opens a program to download drivers, that takes forever.
Then the install takes forever. Then the instructions and color scheme is confusing as heck. Can't tell what's a button and what's just a screen shot. You bounce back between ijsetup website and the application running on the computer.
Checking printer status... then detection... then it never finds the printer...now we're back to bouncing between website and app.ts Now more what's a button, what isn't? And just when i think i did it correctly b/c the printer told me so and i pressed ok, I look back at the laptop an the application says still setting up....and then it tells me on the laptop that the setup failed!
Rinse repeat this for 3hours until i magically do something diferent that works.
Canon, the tag line is "See Impossible" should be "Setup Impossible"!
Why isn't there just a real express setup for people who intend to use the printer on wifi. Should be like two steps, connect printer to wifi, connect laptop to printer. Boom.

I've been using Canon inkjet printers for quite some time. I've had good luck with them. Hopefully, this one continues that trend for me. This printer feels rather cheap. I don't really like how the display has to stay flipped up for the printer to work. I think it looks better when flipped down. The main paper tray doesn't hold a lot of paper. It prints fairly quick when printing standard text documents. I haven't really used it for much else, but I will later. So far, I prefer my MX922 which is in another room and still works great. Maybe that will change with time. Maybe it won't.

I have been using Canon Pixma Photo Printers for years. They are dependable for about two years and then fall apart. Still I like them so I keep replacing them. The ink for this one is way too high.

Can't Beat the Price

My previous printer decided it was done one morning while I was in the middle of trying to print something, so I jumped on the website here and looked for something affordable that would handle the projects I do most. I looked at many, but found this one to be in my price range and had the features I use most. I've had PIXMA printers for the last 10 years and have always been more than satisfied with them, so this was perfect. It prints very nicely with good clear lines and no blurring, the pictures it prints are much nicer than the ones I printed with my last PIXMA and they don't take as long to print. I was surprised at how good everything printed and how fast things were printed considering I wasn't buying the top of the line printer. I would recommend this printer to someone who has a small home business or someone who, like me, just prints their pictures or the occasional document. I'm not using the FAX function, so I can't comment on that, but the copying and printing are just right for me!

My old cannon printer died, so based upon previous experience including the availability of a good refill kit available on line. I made the purchase. One can use either the tray feeder or the feeder in the back for paper. I would like to have a larger paper tray becasue this one is small and our family prints a surprising amount of things at times. Print speed is fair, but not tremendous. The control panel in the front must be extended to print. Print is clear and sharp. The copy and scan modes work well also.
Over all it is a good printer for most at home application.

Easy to set up, great for printing photos. My only complaint is that it feels cheaper than my Pixma MGB8120, which I loved, but started having paper feed issues.

I am quite happy with my new PIXMA TR8520 printer. I got it because I was working from home because of the pandemic. It allows me to print remotely from multiple devices and prints reasonably decent color. I have already used the automatic document feeder to scan, which is an important time saver. I would not recommend buying a printer that does not have the automatic feeder. My one criticism might be that it doesn't hold a lot of paper in the paper tray but it's a worthwhile tradeoff for all the other features you get with this one. (Also, set up was fairly easy!)

Had to replace my older PIXMA all-in-one after several years of great service. Compared functions of available printers on the Best Buy website and determined this one provided all the same features as the one I was replacing.
I ordered on line and it arrived the next day. Set up was simple and I have been very pleased with the TR8520's performance.
I have only given four stars because the construction of the printer is rather flimsy. The plastic parts are somewhat thinner than on my previous printer, however, it is still quite serviceable and good value for the price.

I have only had the printer a short time, but so far it works very well.
The print speed is fast and the text is sharp. Have not printed any photos yet. The most difficult and frustrating part was setting up the Wi-Fi. Not sure if it was from my firewall and router blocking access, but the printer could not be found using the so call "Easy" method. After over an hour of attempts I tried the manual method. The printer was found right away, just has to add my Wi-Fi access code manually through the touch screen display. Only other complaint is if you want to have it always available to receive a FAX or print from other areas of the house, the front panel and paper support need to be pulled up and out. This takes up extra desk space and add the potential of getting them damaged in the extended positions when not in use. Some of the plastic pieces seem a little thin and flimsy.

Very Good Economical Printer

A very good economical printer. I do not print off photos so I can't comment on that aspect, but normal documents look good.
I can't give it 5 stars because it has some quirks, like the control panel must be flipped up before you can print and the paper holder (drawer) is relatively small.
Ink use is about like other printers I have owned (mostly HP). None are as good as you would like, but not terrible either.
