Rear paper feed + lower, ADF, Fax, small footprint

Need the rear paper feed to drop in single blank checks, small paper, stiff paper, etc. - items that need to move through a straight feeder. The rear paper feeder also makes it very easy to insert a bunch of paper I've already used on one side, or quickly grab and change to new paper - don't have to deal with the bottom cassette tray on this printer, which is VERY flimsy! That being said, I do love that it DOES have the bottom paper tray so that I can put the good paper there for business use, and only use the rear feed for everyday use. The ADF (Auto Document Feeder) is also very important to me and seems to be working well so far. The fax was a must for me. I don't have a land line so I use Magic Jack for a VOIP line. The Magic Jack device has the cord inputs that I use to connect to the printer & answering machine via regular phone cords. I use the scanner a lot to attach receipts to transactions in Quicken. I was not able to do this from the Quicken program when I initially setup the printer via Ethernet wire. I attached a USB cord from the computer to the printer and was then able to scan from the Quicken program. That created a problem printing from the cell phone with the Canon App. I was able to like my cell phone to the printer by Bluetooth, but have not tested that yet, The Printer instructions state that USB and LAN CAN be used at the same time, but Wireless LAN and wired LAN CANNOT be used at the same time. If someone could help me with that I would appreciate it ;) Hate that the front panel has to be manually raised - can't see it then and feels flimsy. Front paper receiver is very flimsy and too short for a standard 11" paper without curling.

I've only had this for about a month and haven't done a lot of printing yet. This replaces a Canon MX922. The TR8520 prints documents well and quickly. Photo prints are good quality for a home inkjet printer. If you're expecting good quality lab printing, then it's best to send the pictures to a quality lab. Having said that, the prints are good enough quality for sharing with friends, etc. Build quality seems a little flimsy. It's not falling apart, but it's not as solidly built as the MX922. I would like the paper tray to have a larger capacity. The second paper tray is not really a tray. The paper stands up in the back and is exposed to the air. I use that for photo paper. I wish it was an enclosed paper tray. It also prevents the printer from being up next to the wall. With the prior printer, I didn't have to access the back of the printer and it could go against the wall. (the desk it sits on is next to a wall). The scanner appears to work well. I have not explored various paper sizes. So far, I have only printed on 8 1/2" x 11" standard paper and 4" x 6" photo. I haven't read what other paper sizes will work. Over all, it appears to be a good printer and I would recommend it. I purchased it on sale at Best Buy for just under $100. At that price point, it is an excellent printer.

    Nice printer

The Cannon Pixma TR8520 is a great printer with lots of nice features. We replaced our current printer with this one and the big upgrade is the feeder. We didn't think we would need this feature when we bought our current HP printer but we really did miss it. The feeder on this printer is excellent. We have had other printers in the past with a feeder but the feeder didn't work well while scanning. Not the case with this printer. It works flawlessly while scanning multi-page documents. The other nice feature is the ability to seamlessly print from our phones. Ink/Toner usage is always a question and we haven't used the printer enough yet to say how many pages we can actually get from a cartridge. That said, installing the ink was easy (way easier than our current printer). Print quality is impressive for a printer in this price range. We don't print a lot of photos but we like the job it did on a few we tested. Last but not least, set up was very straight-forward. The step-by-step instructions worked the first time without any issues including linking it to our home network. Time will tell how the printer holds up in the long run. Based on our initial usage, I would recommend this printer to those seeking an all-in-one printer for typical home use.

    Printer Problems, UGH!

I feel bad leaving this review after having the printer for less than a week but I'm getting so frustrated with the millions of apps and ways you need to register the paper, computer, phone, envelopes, picture paper, etc..... It also doesn't stay on so every time you want to use it you have to physically go to the printer and turn it on. I would say I'm the average person, technologically speaking (well, in all speaking if I am to tell the truth) and all of the online directions is soooooo loooooong!!! All I want is to be able to plug it in, connect to wifi, phone and be done with it. Nope. You have to download an app for each electronic you want to use. I admit, when I'm using my phone I just connect to it via the bluetooth but then I can't use all the options. I have yet to figure out how to print on photo paper. And the thing is soooo flimsy and feels like it's about to fall apart every time I touch it. I don't know that I'm going to keep it. My previous all in one printer was an HP and that thing was sturdy! It finally went out (a while ago, I squeezed every drop out of that one) and thought I would try Canon. Hopefully I'm wrong and will be correcting myself in a week or so!

I purchased this printer after my last Canon printer stopped printing and displayed an error. It turns out it's cheaper to buy a new printer than to repair one, except I had recently purchased expensive ink for the old printer that I can't use now. This printer has been working as it should. Nothing spectacular, it works fine, prints relatively fast, and the prints are clean and I have not had any paper jam so far after about 2 months. I have not tried printing pictures, but everything else I have printed have came-out fine. Two things to note about this printer - first, I expected the ink that came with the printer to only last a couple of days since included inks are usually less than half full. After two months I still have not run out of any of the colors, which is a pleasant surprise. The second thing to note is that as some others have stated, Canon has missed the mark on the design of the output tray on this printer. In other words, there is no output tray. There is a short extending arm that is supposed to hold the printed papers but it can only hold a few pages before they start falling on the ground. And the whole thing is so fragile, one small knock and it either comes-off or I believe can break. But that being the only major flaw of the printer so far is not bad and I only took-off one star for that. I would overall recommend this printer.

I bought this printer hoping to merely replace my older Pixma which wasn’t communicating with my computer well anymore. I hate it! The user interface is terrible, and very slow. Thought I would get used to it, but it just isn’t user friendly. Here are some of the issues: The software takes forever to start up and to process tasks. It is not intuitive. When scanning documents to my PC sometimes one or more are randomly flipped upside down and I have not figured out how to rotate them. When scanning documents to my PC sometimes one doesn’t show up in the Image Garden (what a stupid name). When saving multiple scanned documents, you have to browse for the location for each document even if you want to save them all in the same folder. When saving documents, you cannot paste a name into the document name, but must type the entire name. When one color of ink runs out, you can no longer print anything until the cartridge is replaced. At least once, the printer didn’t print my document for over an hour, then suddenly printed it. I definitely would not buy this printer!

Picked as replacement for previous PIXMA printer

I had a PIXMA MX892. That printer lasted me only 6 years, which was shorter than I was hoping, but I had a good enough experience with it (especially the printer ink cost) that I wanted to pick up another PIXMA. Much like my purchase of the 892, I did a little research on reviews and costs, prior to going to the store to purchase. I didn't have much time, as I needed a replacement about an hour before Best Buy was going to close (as I needed to print airline tickets for the next day). After all my research, I decided on this printer specifically based on the price combined with features. After initial setup, I could not be happier. There's not much more I can elaborate on, that hasn't already been covered on the reviews, but I highly recommend this printer for those that are replacing a PIXMA printer that they enjoyed using. In all the reviews I read, the one common denominator was being pricey. I purchased at a $129.99 sale price, which is actually 1 dollar more than the current list price. I'd say that the price now makes it one of the best bang for the buck printers available.

I went to Best buy looking for s quality AIO printer on Black Friday. After reading numerous reviews I decided on buying the Canon TR8520 This printer is incredible. The colors and clarity of pictures are excellent I copied numerous documents without any problems. My favorite feature allows you to automatically turn the printer on send/copy pictures while your away from home ( turn on wifi and location, turned on Bluetooth pair with printer put in code from screen. the first time printer has to be on with you there, just follow the instructions) then it will automaticallyshut off. ( With printer on, go to economy settings on screen, pick time after inactive you want & it to shut off. To connect this printer with your computer, go to U tube search bar type Canon tr8520. There you'll find professional reviews on how to connect to PC. They talk fast so pause the video, write steps, etc. I hope this review helps people having problems in these areas. Really happy with this purchase for 69$ ? Wow !!!

Great printer for your at-home print needs!

The Canon TR 8520 is a great product. Set-up was simple. The manual was clear and concise, and I was up and running in a matter of minutes. I am using the product for personal print needs and it is a perfect size for my home office. I have used an at-home printer before but did not take note of the many features the Canon TR 8520 offers. I don't have much to compare it to, but I do enjoy its compact size, sleek design, and touch-screen. I like that I can print from my phone or laptop via Bluetooth. I can easily print event tickets or an email without having to run to my neighborhood FedEx. Total time saver. This printer exceeded my expectations as far as assembly and features. I don't know what ink cartridges typically cost these days, but I was not shocked by the sticker price when browsing online. The durability of the device could be improved. The paper tray and the panel with the touch screen seem flimsy. I was afraid I might break either one while adjusting them. Overall, I am extremely happy with the Canon TR 8520.

Prints copies and photos well. Not enough info on how the photo process works prior to purchase and not clear in instructions. Photo paper MUST be loaded in tray separate from print paper or you can’t print a photo. Instructions are ok but fairly generic in the start up process. Really miss an actual paper ‘Manual’. Really inconvenient having to go online for the manual. Just more convenient having the manual in your lap being able to flip pages back and forth while sitting infront of the unit while trying to use the product. Instructions weren’t very clear on where and how the print copies were to be delivered. Also was a little painful trying to reset copier when I had to change routers. Seemed finally (after about an hour) to accidentally get it operating again. Once able to wirelessly print from phone or laptop, product performs well except for inconvenience of the process to print photos. Use seems alot more complex than the Epson I replaced(unfortunately that one didn’t last very long with moderate use). Would recommend it based on quality of print but caution buyers of its tad bit of complexity in setup/use...

    Love the scanner!

Very easy to set up. It connected to wireless immediately. The standards feature are great and I like the touch screen. Fairly intuitive and easy to use. I don’t love the paper tray but partially because I have it set up against a wall so it is little awkward but it works. The only other concern I have is the size of the print cartridges (they are very small) but I guess we will see how long the ink lasts. I was very pleased with the print quality but I absolutely love the scanner. I used the flatbed scanner and was shocked first by the quality really good compared to other printers but the best thing about it is that it recognizes that you have multiple photos and saves them as separate files directly to a memory card or your computer. I had a ton of older pictures to scan it and it saved a huge amount of time that it saved the files separately. Love that feature and would strongly recommend just for this feature alone.

The printer is good but the set up wasn't as smooth as I would have liked. It takes a long time for the printer to be found and then longer still to print. The print quality is excellent when it does print. During the registration process I was trying to sign up for the Best Buy easy ink replacement and couldn't. I went to my local Best Buy today for help and no one there could help me. That is a poor reflection on Best Buy, not the Canon printer. I am going to uninstall the printer and start all over again to see if that helps. I need to scan 2 documents and am not looking forward to it. I wish the paper tray held more paper, but that is my fault for not reading more carefully. I also wish that when I hit Print on my computer the printer would automatically turn on. It never occurred to me to look for that. For all of the little things, I would not recommend this printer.

This printer is wonderful! It can hold up to two types of paper for either photos or actual paper, and unlike a multitude of HP printers, this one won't give you as much if any spooling errors. It's great for color prints but it won't give you a true black and white image, most times the black and white image will come with a blue hue, and this is using Cannon's photo paper and ink. The printer will come with starter ink so no worries about buying ink off the bat, it's enough to last you about a month if you print very often, if you are still worried then I'd recommend you buy another ink set just in case. They do have value packs available for the ink so go for those if you can / need to since there are 5 different ink cartridges (which may be better on saving ink since if you run out of one color, there isn't a need to replace the WHOLE thing, but just one of them.)

I looked for weeks to replace my 8-year old HP printer. I wanted separate color cartridges and found HP to have abandoned that with their consumer line. I have had Canon printers in the past, so I decided to try one again. I am very happy with how quickly this printer wakes up and gets to work. I'm used to my other printer sitting for awhile performing "preparation" first. Before purchasing this printer, I read some reviews that said this printer won't auto wake after going into power save. That is not true. There is a setting where you can select how it should act. Print quality is at least on-par with my old printer. I really like the auto-document feeding scanner. However, it seems to darken scans, compared to working just fine using the flatbed. The auto-feed performs perfectly for copies though. I've been using this product for 2 months now and am happy with my purchase.

This printer is versatile and great for my home office. I'm able to scan, copy and print documents easily, and it's been reliable with no paper jams so far. The build quality is fair, its a light plastic, making it a light printer and pretty compact, not a large or heavy printer at all, so its easy to move it around in any space. I would have liked to see better build material and aesthetic, but the build and shape are fair. Set up was easy, the screen prompts visual instructions that were easy to follow, ink cartridges could become tricky if the orange cap inst opened slowly. I'm very happy with this printer, I'm able to have a compact printer with many qualities including wireless connectivity. I'm able to accomplish many tasks that would require scanning, copying and printing. I would recommend this printer for anyone looking for a printer for their home office or home.

leave it to any manufacturer to keep changing the products instead of standing behind the older ones. I had to buy a new printer as the older one of two years began acting up. I bought the new printer and, of course, it needed new ink cartridges. the 251 and 271 inks I used, which look exactly the same, are not usable from one to the next printer.... and now I have to buy 281 inks, which still look exactly the same as the older 251 and 271 inks.... and of course, you cant yet buy these in generic form but are required to pay 50-60 dollars for all new inks... printing is ok, but still not as good as the older printers I owned from hp. while I would still recommend the printer for its feed ability from the top and the scanning capability, I would not recommend due to the fact you have to waste all the previously owned inks and buy new

Coming from a Pixma MX892 that was a speed daemon, especially in scanning, I'm shocked with this printer performances. It scans about 4 pages per minute (16 sec at 300dpi per page). If you scan 40 pages you're in for a 10 minute wait. It wants to do everything wirelessly. You have to struggle to have it connect via USB. Setup also needs an internet connection to download several things. That means that if you're in a remote place with no or poor connection, you're out of luck. Print quality if fine but again, the speed is nothing like the Canon ads show. Also, if you scan directly from a Mac, this latter doesn't have the right drivers yet: scanned pages are all on a gray background. This can be fixed via the Canon Scan utility though. This will likely be available native to macOS soon. The real pro is the size compared to the MX series. It also looks likes its flimsy compared to the MX.

I'm usually intimidated by technology, but setting up the printer was easy to do following the touch panel instructions. I scanned the QR code and the setup on my phone was completely automated. The only issue I had was inserting the ink cartridges. I squeezed the cartridge trying to remove the cap and ink leaked out on my hand. After cleaning it up, I was able to complete the installation no problem. Wireless printing and copying is fast and easy and the print quality is good. But the scanner is loud, and I could not figure out how to scan multiple pages into a single document. I was able to send photos directly from my phone to the printer. The rear tray holds various sizes of photo paper. I'm excited to finally be able to print photos at home! Overall, I am happy with the printer, and I think it will work well for home use.

Great for Work From Home Office

I work from home and have been looking to replace my printer for a while. The Canon TR8250 is an awesome upgrade! It feels like a smaller compact version of the type of technology I would have access to working in a full blown office. The mobile device printing is a life changer. Quality of printing and photos are definitely good from both mobile and computer. Overall I feel like I am getting a great value for the functions and most importantly the convenience of an all in one device. Before buying I read that ink cartridges are expensive to replace, but then saw some good deals on replacement cartriges from various websites. Because everything prints so crisp, it is totally going to be worth it. I've already started telling all my colleagues who have home offices to check this printer out!!

I can't say this is an improvement over the MX920 other than it's smaller footprint. It's slower, doesn't hold as much paper, is much less user intuitive when it comes to features and settings. The ink cartridges appear to be the exact same size as the MX920 but, of course, won't work in the TR. Overall, it feels cheaper in quality, too. The paper tray has this ridiculous piece that, quite frankly, I have no idea of its purpose other than it gets in the way and my family members never snap it back in place because it's such a pain. This may be the last Canon multi function I have purchased. I think it is time to look at other brands next time.
