I just bought my second 8620. I buy this printer for one reason: it can use the cheap offbrand 281 cartridges. A refill of genuine Canon cartridges costs as much as $70. Offbrand cartridges cost as little as $5 for 5 cartridges. Note to Canon: the minute you close this loophole, our relationship is over!
I installed the Canon software on my laptop and it worked fine for printing and scanning. Not so for my android phone and ipad. No matter. As long as they are on the same wireless network as the printer, you’re fine. You don’t really need special software to print.
I only need a basic printer and scanner and was happy with my previous basic plastic concrete block. This printer is rather more complex and has a lot more features than a basic printer, some of which I really like. Cool features: document feeder for copying and scanning, rear feed for small photos and envelopes, automatic duplex printing. Negative features: the control panel has to flip out in order to print, bottom paper tray is unnecessarily complex. There’s a little plastic partial cover for the paper tray that has to be removed to put the paper in and snapped back on before you shove the tray back in. I can totally see this getting lost or broken, and it prevents me from just shoving single sheets of paper into the tray without having to pull out the tray, take the little plastic lid off, put the paper in, snap the little plastic lid back on, shove the tray back, and confirm the paper type. Features I don’t use and care nothing about: the fax, the Canon Image Garden.
In summation: it’s a nice, if slightly fussy, printer and has the potential to save a ton on ink.

Connected easily to my Mac desktop via wireless. Print quality on paper and photos is good. Prints much faster and quieter than my 7 year old Epson it replaced. Small footprint.
On the downside, the touchscreen can be slow to respond and some of the parts seem flimsy, but so did the other brands I cross shopped.

Canon makes good printers. I bought a Pixma in 2008, still works, too. This one is for my kid's dorm room. Sort of big for a dorm, but since it's multi-function, not bad. Easy enough to use. Display is touch screen and useful. Prints kind of quickly. No laser jet, by any means. Wondering how long ink tanks will last. We'll see.

I use large laserjet MFP477 printers in my business offices but need a portable printer for important meetings at remote property locations. I read many negative reports but they must have been "early-morning" attempts. Follow the instruction book, make sure you have an internet connection and it will all install properly unless it is too early in the morning for you. Operationally, it does everything you pay for. The control panel makes negotiating through some proprietary procedures easy to follow. Some commented on the flimsy construction, but this is not a basketball, treat it kindly and it should survive. The small paper tray was a disappointment- demoted to 4 stars + the printer cartridges may not last as long as others but this printer will accept non-Canon cartridges, a cost savings. Business document print quality is excellent and photos were excellent for an ink printer. Speed was as advertised. I do not get caught up in the difference of 10 sheets per minuter vs. 12 as once you are in operation it is not a printer race.

It all works great! It even works great with my tablet and cell phone, I just hope it lasts. My first Canon, a PIXMA MX522, lasted for more than 10 years. Then it needed, "Authorized Service." Foolishly, I replaced it with a $226 HP piece of junk, that worked great for a month and a half. Amazon would not take it back. HP would not take it back. Instead, I called HP technical service 11 times in one month! I went back to Canon. I wasted (threw away) $226.
I have to say, this Canon printer impresses me. It does have its quirks: You have to lift the front control panel when you print. You load paper from the rear, as well as the front cassette, depending on what type of paper - standard, envelopes, labels, envelopes, etc. The replacement ink is cheaper AND lasts longer than that HP!
I still have more to learn about this printer, but in due time.
I also weighed the advantages and disadvantages of Amazon and Best Buy. I am buying a lot more from Best Buy than I used to.

Great for printing and scanning, but just outside of warranty, one of the trays stopped feeding paper. So now I have to feed it through the top feeder only. Still works, but it kinda sucks not being able to load paper in it otherwise.

Small footprint; prints and scans well enough (will skew the paper a little bit when scanning); can duplex print but manual duplex scan; when using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, can only scan text and b/w - no color scanning; Canon scanning software sufficient, but a little clunky - need to remember to check settings for single vs. duplex scan for auto-detect and doc scanning fields; printer / scanning noise is higher pitched than previous model (pixma 882); works well for printing directly from an iPhone X; output tray a little toy-like / fragile-feeling; having to flip up control panel for printing is not user-friendly, but is workable; have not tested faxing or printing photos; rear paper feed works well; set up straightforward; comes with inks, usb cable, and phone line for faxing; doesn’t feel durable; previous model lasted 7-8 years

This is a great printer with a touch screen and scanner. It's very easy to set up. The instructions on the screen are intuitive. We had it set up and wirelessly connected in less than one hour. For all of its functions, it is extremely compact. And at around $200.00, you can't beat the price. Finally, you can purchase a Geek Squad multiple year extended warranty for less than $40.00. I highly recommend!

The TR8620 is my third Canon printer since 2005. The last one, a MX922 I purchased in 2015 stopped printing Cyan. Did whatever I could to get it working properly w/o luck. It still prints black so I will continue using it for a while until my ink supply is depleted.
I looked at other manufacturers and some have triple color ink cartridges meaning if one color is exhausted, you have to replace the full cartridge. Complete waste.
The TR8620 uses individual ink colors also available in XL sizes.
The printer is very easy to setup. Once the ink is installed and paper added to the tray, you can use a cell phone or a computer to finalize the setup by going to a special Canon website and click setup. Its almost completely automatic to download the driver(s) and link your computer to run wireless. It only takes 5 minutes. Print a test page and you're ready to go.
Quality is great. The TR8620 is quieter than the MX922 but is slightly, just slightly slower for the first page print.
The LCD screen is big and easy to read. The TR8620 even updates the date and time itself. The MX922 required manual setting.
I think I'll be happy with the new printer, just hope it lasts more than 6 years, preferably 8 or more. Bought a dust cover yesterday.

We have had this printer for close to a month, and over-all, we have been very pleased. It was very easy to wireless connect. We have used the scanner and printer. Both have worked well. Pictures we have printed have come out very nice with intense blacks. I know there is criticism regarding print speed and ink use, but it doesn't seem any slower than our old Epson printer, and we don't print a lot.
The only irritating thing is the auto power off. That means we have to turn the printer on every time we want to use it. However, I have read that can be turned off. Also, the scanner lid seems lighter weight and more flimsy than other comparable brands.

The good: Excellent quality prints over wi-fi, easy setup, and easy ink installation. I would recommend this printer for home office use or occasional use.
The bad: Paper loading tray is a little awkward to work with since it has an extra piece that separates and is tricky to get back in, plus the only setting it lets me print with is plain paper - if I choose anything else it won’t print. However it has printed fine on vinyl sticker paper using the plain paper setting, si that works for me. Also, so far I am unable to get the app to work to print from my iPhone. It does print from my iPad, laptop, and desktop iMac, but errors out every time on my phone.

As a replacement for a similar Canon MX870 that stopped working after many years of good service, this printer is comparable but faster with better print quality. The build quality overall is lighter but seems OK with careful use. The minor negatives are that the paper tray and output chute are flimsy (see build quality), the control panel must be rotated open for use, and the unit turns itself off when idle (necessitating pushing the power button before printing).

Love the scanner on this printer. Used it to scan photos and mementos of trips that my parents took. The scans are straight and multiple pictures can be scanned at once, the pictures will be separated by the software.Used this to replace an older Pixma.

Easy setup: 5 ink cartridges, loading paper, connecting to wifi. Prints fairly fast. Small footprint and lightweight.
I exchanged an HP for this printer. HP printers are ridiculous. HP paper handling is impossible. Very poor design. Canon is much, much better.

Have been using this printer for almost 6 months now. I replaced a Canon Pixma MG7700 as it was too old to update the drivers.
I was hesitant because of some of the reviews but this TR8620 has been amazing. No issues printing, replacing ink or scanning and copying. Works very well in all capacities. Print comes out beautiful, no jams or problems with the paper feeding in. Display is bright and self explanatory. No problems hooking up to my HP Envy laptops. Have even been able to utilize off-brand ink with no issues. Easy to replace the ink cartridges and load the paper. No issues printing via bluetooth even if it's a few days between printing. Takes a few minutes to link back up by itself but prints with no problem.
I am very pleased with this purchase
