    Good starter camera

I purchased this camera about two weeks ago and have been putting it through a daily pace of photographic assignments. First of all, let's get my biases out of the way. I've been an avid amateur photographer for over thirty years and have always loved doing it my way; that is figuring out f-stops, shutter speeds, light meters, bracketing exposures...the whole nine yards, both in filmand digital. But I needed a fairly basic point and shoot following a recent trip to Fort Lauderdale, FL, so when I got back, I purchased the Canon Elph 180 and saved my digital SLR for the more serious stuff. So let's get down to facts: The Good: The Canon 180 is a good starter camera for the person who just wants to simply take pictures, which is what it does. 80 percent of the images I took were of good to excellent quality. 15 percent were slightly or greatly out of focus, either due to me being to close for the autofocus to work or from slow shutter speeds. Once I learned to back off and zoom in to frame the picture, the autofocus did its job fine. Some of the images were a little undersaturated, but any good photo imaging program can remedy that. The 5 percent were low light shots that were grainy due to the high ISO speeds, probably some camera noise, some jpeg compression, and low light conditions. The Bad: Often times when zooming in, like close-ups of flowers and small objects, I noticed the image in the viewfinder moves quite a bit with the slightest bit of camera movement, which makes it hard to frame a shot. I don't know if something like image stabilization would help in this situation, but seeing this is a beginner's camera, I'm a little puzzled why Canon didn't incorporate this into the 180. Also an aperture priority/shutter priority setting vs. the Program mode would have been nice. The Ugly: Canon, don't be so chintzy. Make the box a little bigger and enclose a REAL instruction manual instead of having to download it off the internet. If you're home with your camera, fine. But if you're on the Appalachian Trail, hiking, and you need to refresh your memory, it's hard to deal with a pdf file while lugging your 80 pound backpack in the backcountry. Yeah, you can say, "Print it and take it with you." but who wants to mess with a bunch of stapled together pages vs. a nice compact manual. 'Nuff said! Conclusion: The Canon 180 is a good starter camera for those who want to take just family and vacation pictures. It's not exactly "perfektion und qualitat" and it won't make you the next Ansel Adams, but for the average person who just wants good shots, the 180 will fit the bill.

This is maybe the best camera you can get short of buying a professional one that cost $1,000+. I had a version from about 3 years ago and since then this new version has come a long ways. It has ALOT more features for those who use the camera for more then just basic pictures. It even has more filters like "Miniature" mode, "Deformed" mode and so on. Which really make it fun to use. Only real complaints is It battery life seems a bit shorter though so I am always having to keep a second battery ready. And the screens seems smaller then before and its no longer a touch screen. With that in mind it doesn't really affect my view of it to much. Still takes amazing pictures!

This camera is a good size for travel and activities. It fits easily into a pocket, small purse, etc. It sits easily in the hand during use. It takes good quality pictures. The auto focus works well if you remember to wait the second it takes to focus. It works well in a variety of light settings. It has taken several great sunset/sunrise at sea photos. It is easy to recharge. The only criticism is that the zoom dial moves a bit too freely making it tricky sometimes to find the view you want.

I purchased this camera for my 16 year old who went on a volunteer trip to Central America. He needed something small and easy to use to document his trip. He tried it out before he left and it seems just fine. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that he hasn't returned from his trip and I don't know how everything held up. But, so far so good!

I purchased this Fitbit to replace one that stopped syncing with my phone after about three weeks and could not be resynced. I really like the reminders to move, as I tend to loose track of time when I am working or playing on my computer. I wish it would continue to count the steps for the current15 minute period after it reaches the 250 step goal until the next 15 minute period starts. If you have nice fingernails, it is hard to switch wrist bands and you may chip your nails.

I had an old "clunker". As a college student, weight matters, and this Chromebook is thin, lightweight, and yet still has all the functions of my previous computer. You have to like using Google and Chrome to get the full functionality this computer can provide, which I do. Additionally, they don't come with a lot of storage, but today's trends are towards using the cloud so that's not a big problem either. I also enjoy all the hot key shortcuts the Chromebook has.

This is a great point and shoot camera. We enjoyed using it on our vacation. We noticed in the the reviews we read before purchasing that the focus was quite an issue for users. After using this camera, we found those reviews to be accurate. If you were super still and took your time, the focus was not a problem. We liked how simple it is to use and that it could easily be carried on our trip.

I used this camera on my recent international trip. I wanted a camera that I can put in my pocket and use it very quickly. I thought this camera had WIFI/bluetooth but it does not. I could not share my pics on social media until I got home and downloaded the pics to my laptop. Also, some of the pics came out blurry, there is a slow pause for the auto-focus function on the camera.

I do really like the functions of this camera. Lots of nice features. The only thing that would be better in my opinion is if I could control the "macro" setting myself. There is no control for this. In "auto" the camera decides for itself when to use it. It generally works alright....not as well as I'd personally like. A control for this setting would be a plus!!

this product is easy to open and get started using. It requires a couple AAA batteries and a photo card then its ready to point and take pictures. There is a lever to turn on the photo click button that allows up to 16x magnification to capture close ups. It also is able to take videos with a push of a button. Doesn't come with a carrying case. enjoy!

Bought this for my Dad since he doesn't like using a phone camera for important pictures. Easy setup, had it up and taking pictures in the first few minutes. Only drawback so far is the LCD screen on the back (for viewing your shot) washes out in bright daylight. Great value if you need a point and shoot camera.

Bought this last min for my teenager who was going on a school trip. It has wifi, which he has not tried out, kept a charge for 2 days, has a decent zoom and the night photos turned out amazingly well. Wanted an easy camera for him to tote around in his pocket. He was very happy with how well it performed and quality of photos

We bought two of these cameras as gifts for my daughters right before their first international vacation. These were there first adult type cameras. Batteries held up well. They took tons of photos. Only issue was it didn’t come with a chord to load photos into computer. Would have paid more for less hassle.

Good small compact camera, easy to use. However you must purchase a cable if you want to download to your computer. Unless your computer has a slot for the SIMM card. My old PC did not so I had to purchase one. Takes nice quality pictures, easy auto focus. Very good price

So far, so good. Biggest downside is that there is not a user manual in the box and it takes 2 - 4 weeks to get it. When I called for the manual, they did help by installing the camera into my computer. Tough way to get started.

This is a fairly simple camera to use. It's menu and buttons are all logical & easy to understand. This has enough settings to give you some variety in the types of pictures and video you can take without seeming overwhelming. Good for someone like my mom who just wants to point & shoot most of the time.

Small and lightweight camera is excellent when touring and traveling. A beginner type camera, but takes excellent photos similar to DSLs. Instead of carrying around an entire DSL with lenses, this small camera did the trick. Some restrictions such as zooming, but I was able to zoom in to the level I wanted to take great close ups.

After waiting in line for half an hour, I discovered I needeed an appointment but the "Solar rep" [non Best buy employee] took the time to fix the problem I had. The disk was " locked ou". Just needed a flick on this little gizmo on the disk and was fixed!

It is a great camera for carrying in my pocket and very handy as a point-and-shoot incident recorder. Picture quality is good and the zoom is adequate for most common uses. What is lacking is a direct download capability from the camera installed memory card to my computer photo library.
