    Great "Little Buddy"

I shoot primarily SLR, but sometimes bringing that with you everywhere is just not feasible. The G5X can create an incredible picture; the large 1" sensor and surprisingly fast built-in zoom lens is clutch. Plenty of manual control for those used to having it, and the automatic modes are everything you'd expect out of a Canon. Has a super small yet amazingly powerful built in flash and a shoe should you want to throw your Speedlite on it. Electronic viewfinder (OLED?) is clean and accurate, and does not "rainbow flicker" like many LCOS display do. LCD screen is great and actually makes me want to use it, but stows away cleanly when you don't.

This particular camera is one of my best purchase of cameras I've bought so far, very simple, easy to use and all the same features of a DSLR camera. except for the interchangeable lens but its a powershot it perfect for quick on the go.

Since I have been familiar the Canon Power Shot cameras since the G1 through the G16 it was easy to transition to the G 5x.

    Missing Key Features

I use this camera everyday for video, and there are a couple of annoying things: 1. There is a 3-5 second wait period for the audio to fade in, so you always have to let it record for a few seconds before you get anything usable audio-wise. 2. No external mic input. I mean, the thing has a has a hot shoe but no mic input? It even has a remote shutter release which is essentially useless. Other than that, I continue to use it because the video looks nice, I like the dedicated exposure compensation wheel (and it actually works while recording video, unlike the Canon G7x), I love the swivel screen (being able to protect it when it's in my pocket by facing the screen inward is crucial....hint, hint Sony), the touch functionality, the easy menu system, etc. At first I didn't like the recessed record button but once you get used to it it's nice to prevent accidentally stopping the recording.

Wanted a small camera that shot RAW and had a viewfinder. Many great features that are also found on DSLR's.

Haven't put many miles on her yet, but overall I am satisfied. I'm a b&w film photographer usually. This is my first digital camera and I am really happy with it so far. It knows when i'm using the viewfinder and when I'm not! Can't wait to see what she is capable of.

When I first put this camera in my hand, I had to have it. It felt so comfortable. Yet, I looked at reviews, held the camera every time I went to Best Buy, looked at more reviews, and continued to ponder this specific purchase, I pondered, so long, without buying, because of the expense of the camera, and the fact that other cameras are rated ahead of this camera in certain areas. Following Hurricane Harvey, when I lost access to my other camera, I knew it was time to take the plunge. I am happy with my purchase, yet have much to learn as the camera has many options that I have not yet used.

I carry this camera with my Canon 6D for those quick shots when I don't have time to grab the 6D. Great when time is a factor.
