Decent camera but not worth the price tag

A bit of background. I do photography professionally and was looking for a point and shoot to keep in the car for those moments where I did not want to break out my rig/did not have it with me. It's an OK camera, if you don't do a lot of motion/low light. The aperture, sensor, and auto ISO simply don't do well in the dark or with motion unless you hold it impressively still. Most of the pictures I have taken so far have been blurry, grainy or a combination of both. Being a long-time Canon user (I've owned a few powershots, a T1i, 60D, 5D.... you get the point), I was actually rather disappointed with the device. Considering the price tag, I would have expected better performance. My cell phone takes a better picture most of the time. I give this camera two stars. The zoom is pretty fantastic and when the camera gets the picture right, it looks awesome - rivaling some of my DSLR shots but, unfortunately, they are few in number. Considering everything, I acknowledge my bias considering that I am spoiled by better equipment (DLSR beats point and shoot any day). If I did this recreationally and was just looking for a camera that worked, this camera is decent, but I'd likely go for a more affordable one. Some of the cheaper point and shoots lose some image quality (megapixels) but have better stability, resulting in an overall better picture. Most of the cost for this camera comes from the quality and zoom. I'd trade them for an improved OS any day.

My previous Canon powershot was ruined by a dip in the ocean and I ordered this one to replace it right before leaving on a trip to Europe. I couldn't be happier with the convenient size of the camera and the great pictures I got with it! Daylight, night shots, even action shots all came out very clear and easily allowed for cropping and enlarging the prints!

I was tired of the big bulky camera. Now I have 78 zoom ,20 mega pixels. Download pics straight to phone via wifi ( no cord ) . Slip it right into my shirt pocket and I'm good to go. Get a tripod and take pics of a full moon, you we'll be impressed at the zoom capabilities.

Takes great pictures especially with zoom. Love the compact size. We have a digital 35 mm with various lenses but I'm just not interested in lugging that heavy camera around at my age, 70.

I bought this camera for my son as he will be going to Spain and wanted a reliable point and shoot. The reviews were quite positive and he is very pleased with the size, the options, and the clarity of the pictures.

This is my 2nd Canon camera. It performed well on a recent trip and produced great pictures. The zoom is especially helpful. You have to print out your own Manuel to use all the features. Nice compact unit.

I bought this for my older parents, who are not especially tech savy. They wanted an easy to use, point and shoot camera that takes good pictures. This camera works perfectly for their needs.

I bought this camera for a camping trip after my other camera bit the dust. I am by no means a camera person, so many of the particulars that photographers and camera enthusiasts know, I am oblivious about. Overall, this camera works great. I used it while camping, horse back riding, and canoeing. This camera took clean crisp photos. I am very happy with photos that I made up close as well as far away. The only time this camera produced fuzzy photos was when I was on a horse on a very rock and bumpy trail.

The Canon PowerShot SX610 is the perfect camera! From a beginner to a seasoned pro…anyone who wants to capture the memorable events and fun times so they can share them with family and friends should strongly consider this product. The quality of the photographs is amazing, and I guarantee you'll always want to have your PowerShot handy, no matter where you're going! I'm not a seasoned pro (yet), but I really mean it when I say that I always think about taking my camera with me now!

Fast enough that I can turn it on and get a pic before my 10-month-old moves! Great quality photos too. Much better than my old Canon! Only giving 4 stars instead of 5 because the flash has to be manually popped up. This is 2016...

This was a good camera to fit in my bag. I didn't want to spend as much money, but still wish I went for the g7x with the pop up screen. However this is a great camera to carry around with great zoom & good quality!

This camera works very well with low light and will tell you if you need flash. Would have been nice if the flash turned on automatically but can deal with it. Pictures clear and sharp.
