Disappointed, Never got the Camera
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This rating is for Best Buy. If I could rate zero stars I would. I was afraid because at the time of writing this, I saw two other reviews stating they never recieved the camera, now I am the third person that has not recieved my camera. UPS took a bogus photo for proof of delivery, UPS stated the merchant blocked for any claims to be made. I contacted Best Buy support, since the camera was sold out they said they would do an investigation to see if I can be elligible for a refund. Investigation has concluded and got deemed not elligible. The worst experience ever.

Highly disappointing experience at this price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.READ BEFORE EVEN BUYING THIS PRODUCT This product is not usable out of the box. I am approaching this review from the perspective of someone who has not used such a digital camera before and would be paying approximately $1000 for a device. Please note I have plenty of experience with 35mm cameras with manual controls for everything. I am not tech obtuse. I also am self taught on editing videos. - It has no charger or usb cable and the battery is not charged from the factory. I had to use another device's usb-c cable to charge this though I paid out of pocket to get a real battery charger for this device as I would never do any photoshoots or video sessions with only one battery; I'll be adding another battery as a result as well. - It has no SD card. You pay $1000 and don't even get a starter SD card? - It has no dark shooting lighting provided. You can buy this extra. I expect a device that costs this much to be rudimentarily able to perform its tasks out of the box. POSITIVE OBSERVATIONS BEFORE USE Seems well made and well assembled. I like the weight of the unit and the rubbery exterior coating though this is not waterproof. REAL WORLD USAGE - Clunky set up with yet another app that has to be installed and then the app would not send the setup code to several different email addresses I tried. I ended up going to a laptop and then signing in and setting up via that route. Why is there an app? - Set up menu is awful. I made a mistake in the date and time due to the clunky design of the menu and navigation and cannot figure a way to change it. - Basic manual is also awful. Tiny print and not much information at all. Of course you can download a pdf book to operate your $1000 camera. This is a clear cost cutting action with a manifold amount of different languages offered so only one manual needs to be printed. Let the customer find the meat and potatoes operations by having to search to download a full detailed operation manual. - Low light capabilities of this model is lackluster - would like to shoot outdoors with Christmas decorations. - It is a shame that my 2024 smartphone can have a broader ability to shoot in all conditions than this whether still or video. SHOULD YOU BUY THIS? - At this point in technology development, I don't see any advantage of using this over a modern smartphone costing around the same amount as this camera. - I was not impressed with this product and consider it as something to learn how to use over months. The time I have already spent on this camera I would have been taking great video and stills with a smartphone with easier to use controls. - For 95% of the people who want to vlog or to take pictures, you are better off upgrading a smartphone that can do more than one thing than to buy a standalone camera like this if you need to use the video/still options out of the box. This camera is heavy on needed time investment and is not as easy to use as my old 35mm camera where everything had to be adjusted manually.

Step up from a phone despite lack of builtin flash
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m primarily just a dad who has kids with multiple interests. One of those is creating fun videos together with their cousins, often re-creating the latest trends but purely for personal use. They’ve gone through stepping up from an old iPad to an iPhone camera, trying out lavelier mics for better audio, but ultimately just want to have fun with it. Personally, my primary reason for picking up my camera is my kids, whether that’s a trek through the zoo, strolling the streets to look at Christmas lights, or getting together with family. The first and most significant “cool” factor of this Canon camera, for both me and my daughter was the flip out and rotatable screen. This allows for easily filming selfie-style content, positioning a family photo, or turning the screen around to use for traditional style photos or videos. One slight drawback, and maybe this is just a result of being older, is a lack of a viewfinder. I found myself walking down streets taking pictures of my kids and worrying about wasting battery with the screen always on, when a viewfinder would have sufficed. The other drawback is a lack of flash, for nighttime photos. That said, even without a flash, photo quality and video quality at night was substantially better than what I’m used to, even with a flagship phone camera. The most obvious features that made this feel specifically optimized as a video camera was the microphone “pompom” that helps reduce wind noise, and the swivel screen designed for selfie videos made easy. Size-wise it fit comfortably in my hands, and wasn’t overly heavy. The zoom is great for vlogging, including a wide angle aspect when fully zoomed out, but the distance zoom is just okay. It’s probably good enough to still be able to get audio when filming but isn’t something that’s going to be great for taking far away shots at a school concert or sports. Overall, it’s clearly designed as a vlogging video-first camera, and it does that well. It’s good enough as a photo camera that it’s worth bringing over just having a phone with you, but for situations where you might need a longer zoom, or a flash, there are better options. For what it’s designed for primarily, a video camera that also takes photos, it does that really well. If you’re looking for an all around phone replacement, with an emphasis on video, this is probably still a great option. If you want to prioritize stills for anything far away, or are in situations where you need a built-in flash, I’d check out other options. As long as you know what you’re looking for and this is meeting those needs, I would recommend this.

Great camera, does need some accessories
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With a design that brings to mind a mirrorless SLR and a feature set that seems to be aimed at vlogging, the Powershot V1 straddles the line between what has traditionally been two separate product categories. In the week I've spent with it so far I've found it to be a surprisingly capable little all-rounder, though I'm still a little unsure what the best use case for it really is. To start with the camera's strengths: it really does produce gorgeous content. Colors are vibrant, motion is smooth, and you've got a wide range of options for adjusting your shots. Image stabilization is also surprisingly good, which in my opinion is quite important for something this light. As someone with a decent (albeit not entirely practiced) background in photography and how to use high-end cameras I found most of the controls to be relatively easy to get a handle on with a bit of experimentation, and the range of the options available to be very good. In the hands of someone who knows what they're doing there is no question that this camera can produce fantastic images and videos. But then one of the more appealing features is that it can produce pretty good images even if you don't know what you're doing too. The camera features an expanded suite of automatic modes for various types of shooting and while I didn't always exactly agree with how they adjusted for different environments, I also wasn't displeased with any of the results either. Effectively using these modes does require a bit of knowledge for what you're looking for, so not quite point-and-shoot easy, but it's a pretty good middle ground for someone who wants to step up from a typical smartphone camera but isn't quite ready to learn the ins and outs of f-stop settings. Unfortunately, there are some things that keep me from giving it my full throated endorsement. And most have to do with the lens selection. While the styling could allow one to mistake it for an SLR at first glance the zoom lens is permanently fixed to the camera, and is definitely the thing I liked the least about the camera. To be clear, it's a fine lens. But it is just fine. You aren't going to be able to add so much as a filter to it. I also feel if you want to really get the most out of it you almost have to be willing to invest in some added accessories. The built in mic, for example, really can't match what you'd get with a proper shotgun mic or lav and as such feels like it lets the video down. The rotating screen is also fine for shooting video, particularly if you've got a handle or other mount, but can't quite compare to a more traditional viewfinder for still photography. Finally, I really don't get the decision not to add some kind of lens cap here. For something that you're presumably going to be carting around with you on various adventures the mechanical dust protector it's got is not sufficient protection for the lens, and with it being permanently affixed anything that damages it is basically going to mean the end for the whole camera. I'd definitely recommend a sturdy case or third party protector of some kind before taking it anywhere too rugged.

Great easy to use compact camera!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned quite a few Canon cameras over the years. Most of them have been DSLR’s. Which are great, but the can be bulky and usually have lots of attachments and things that you have to bring with you. Sometimes you just want a great camera that wont take up a lot of space and you can just pull it out and snap a quick picture or video while you are on the go. This is where the V1 shines. Out of the box, you can tell it’s the same great quality that Canon is known for. While being a very compact camera, it is will vert well made. It has a lot of the same features you would find on high-end Canon cameras like the flip out rotating screen. There is the familiar dial on the top to easily switch between different shooting modes. There is a hot show on the top for attaching lights or flashes (like most cameras, this doesn’t have a built in flash). If you have ever used a digital camera before, you should be able to quickly find your way around this one. It comes with the Camera, a wrist strap, battery pack, a wind screen and the hot shoe cover. The camera has a 1/1.4" sensor at 22.3 megapixels. It can do 4K video at 29.97fps, a 4K crop up to 59.94fps, and full HD up to 120fps. This will easily cover pretty much anything you will want to do with it. Coming to the functionality, it has the standard easy to navigate Canon menu as well as the quick dial on top so you can easily select which shooting mode you want or if you want to record video. From start up to shooting, it’s a matter of seconds. This doesn’t have any kind of traditional viewfinder on it, so you need to line up your shots completely using the video screen. It can easily flip out and it also rotates so you can see it from the front if you are shooting yourself for something like a vlog. I found the still images to actually be quite good. This takes amazing landscape type pictures, and does pretty well with portrait type shots as well. There is no interchangeable lens, so you only have whats in the camera to play with, but I found that it does a great job for such a small and compact camera. Videos looked great as well. Make sure you have good lighting though as the low light performance is not that great. Even a simple light will drastically improve your low light videos. The on-board microphones in this camera are actually pretty amazing. They pick up sound very well, and especially if you use the included windscreen there is not a lot of wind noise. I have to say I was actually pretty impressed with the audio that came out of this camera. There is an external mic input jack on the camera, but honestly, I have not found a reason to use it yet. Maybe if you were really far away from the camera you might need an external mic, but for most things, the mic on the camera works great. Overall, this is a great, and easy to use point and shoot camera for still pictures as well as video. IT even offers some advanced and manual settings as well to help you easily take great pictures and videos. Definitely check it out if you are in the market for a new camera!

I love this little camera!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I used to be a much more avid armature photographer than I am today. When I have shot recently, I’ve enjoyed instant cameras for a nostalgia around them that I enjoy. That said, with the Canon Powershot V1 I was excited to try something more akin to a point and shoot camera, albeit with a heightened focus on vlogging and 4K video recording than the point and shoot cameras of yester-year. Here’s my thoughts after a week of playing with my new toy: Pros: • The camera feels substantial and incredibly well built for such a relatively small device. The grip is well texturized and gives you confidence the camera wont slip out of your hand, and there’s even a space to comfortably rest your thumb while clutching it. It’s also larger than some of the old pocketable point-and-shoot cameras from 15 years ago, so don’t expect the compactness of a 2000’s era Powershot camera. • There’s an automatic photo/video mode that also provides on-screen tips to help familiarize you with the camera’s features. I used that setting for the first day just to see if there was anything useful I may have otherwise overlooked. • This camera is designed to capture 4K video, and capturing high-quality 4K video in real time requires some power and in turn the camera can start to run hot. But luckily the V1 comes with a built-in fan cooling system so you can have longer film sessions. With that said, make sure you pick up a memory card that’s capable of taking advantage of what this camera’s abilities offer in terms of video quality, and read & write speeds. • The Cannon Connect smartphone app pairs with your camera so that you can easily transfer photos to your mobile device, making it easy to start sharing your photos. The pairing process is quick and easy, and the camera walks you through it during its initial setup. You can even choose to transfer full resolution copies or reduced file size copies. • The display flips out and swivels a full 180*, and it’s touch sensitive for easy input. • I really like the quick Still Camera/Video toggle switch that makes it easy to go back and forth between shooting modes. • The autofocus on the V1 is very good. Canon has a feature called Dual Pixel autofocus which features face and eye detection. There’s also a feature I have yet to experiment with where it will easily shift focuses to whatever is placed in front of the camera, which would be perfect for those who film product reviews and want to maybe switch from a view of themselves to the product they’re highlighting. Cons: • There’s no flash included with the camera. You can buy one separately, but you don’t get one out of the box. Canon’s own flash options also don’t come cheap. • There’s also no USB cable in the box, which is fine by me because I have so many from just about every other device that ships with one, but may be a downside to some especially at this price. • At $900, this camera is definitely not the cheapest option for vlogging cameras on the market, with Sony having a few competitors to this camera. • Battery life could be better, so plan on buying a backup battery if you are going to be filming for extended periods as the battery life while filming in 4K is only about an hour. • There’s no optical viewfinder, though that isn’t that big of a deal in my personal opinion. Overall, I have been very impressed with both the camera’s photo and video quality. If you’re looking for something that will run laps around your phone camera, something that’s not a massive rig, and a camera that provides you with both fantastic 4K video recording and amazing still shots, then definitely consider the V1.

Beginner-friendly vlogging camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve recently started getting into vlogging and short videos, and honestly, the Canon PowerShot V1 has been such an easy camera to start with. I’m not super tech-savvy, so I wanted something simple that still gives good results—and this one really does. It’s small enough to carry around without feeling heavy, and the controls are pretty straightforward, even for a beginner like me. The flip screen is probably my favorite feature because filming myself feels natural, and I don’t have to guess if I’m in the frame. The video quality looks sharp and smooth, especially in 4K, and the autofocus keeps me in focus without me having to mess with settings. I also love that the built-in lens works for both wide shots and closer ones, so I don’t feel stuck. The image stabilization is a lifesaver when I’m walking and recording since I don’t want to lug around extra gear. I’ve also had fun playing with the special video modes. The Movie Close Up Demo mode makes product shots look clean, and automatically focuses on the product, which is pretty neat in my opinion, and the Smooth Skin Mode is great for personal clips, it softens things just enough without looking fake. These little extras make experimenting easy and fun, even for beginners. What really makes it enjoyable is how quick it is to go from recording to sharing. I can shoot something, and transfer it straight to my phone using the app, which is also easy to use. It feels like this camera was made for people who just want to create without stressing over too many settings. Even the audio sounds good too so I don’t need to figure out extra mics. The only downsides for me are that battery life is noticeably short when shooting in 4k continuously, so having a spare battery is recommended, and there’s no built-in flash, which makes low-light shooting a bit tricky. For me, those aren’t really deal breakers, but someone more advanced might care. Overall, it’s been a great beginner-friendly camera that makes creating content feel way less intimidating and way more fun.

Takes great pics and video
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great camera option for content creators if you already have some items for creating content. I was pleasantly surprised by the solid feel yet lightweight design of this camera. It looks expensive and feels solid but isn't so heavy you won't want to grab it on the go. Setting it up was super easy out of the box, the setup menu basically walks you through it and directs you to the app to download camera connect and access more features from your phone. The app is easy to use and straightforward as well. For the price, a basic SD card could have been included but I borrowed one from a different camera I purchased awhile back. One big drawback is no flash and the price for purchasing a flash to add doesn't seem reasonable considering the price of this camera to begin with but I have other lighting already and was able to work around it. The little wind puff ball seems to work well but I record indoors only so I don't have a lot of noise to worry about. The 24 mp are solid enough for decent still pictures. Depending on the content you make, there are various modes or options built in. I love the close up demo mode as a lot of content involves showing close ups of smaller details. I do love Canon as a brand and would recommend this camera if you're OK with not having flash.

Great Little Camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have to say one thing above all else, you can never go wrong with a Canon camera. This one, the PowerShot V1 is no different in that regard. As far as a compact point and shoot camera goes the V1 meets just about every need the typical user needs. While it is not a superior camera for video or picture taking it is good enough for most use cases. It really shines when shooting video. It has plenty of shooting options for video and it's pretty darn good, especially for folks wanting a nice compact camera when shooting vlogs and such. Colors are accurately captured and while it may not be 4K 60 FPS or higher it is perfect for those doing walking and shooting duties. Oddly enough I've been pleasantly surprised by the built in mic when capturing video. It's a nice addition that the camera with a fuzzy mic guard. The nice thing about this camera is the size and ease of use. It is a rather compact camera and the build is such that it's easy to use one handed and access the wide variety of controls with ease when shooting video or taking pictures. Overall this is a rather handy camera when shooting video or pictures.

Let me be honest...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me jump right in, here are my thoughts after vlogging and shooting lots of video with this camera. Hardware: It's a bigger camera than you think, so check the size and measurements at the store. That's not a bad thing, but I was shocked that it was the same size as my mirrorless camera. It feels good though, and has lots grip when holding or using. Buttons have good travel and feedback, and are all easy to press. Controls are positions in the right place, and functionality is just right. The screen is decent, and has good sensitivity when touching. Quality; Well, here is where I don't really think it did so well. I took it out on a cloudy/sunny day....it struggled with the white balance. I was not standing in direct sunlight, but it still blew out the areas behind. A slow fade to bright white, and had trouble getting to a color which would be considered normal to us. When I would shoot video of other things; cars; trees; land; houses; it did fairly well..but was not the best when compared to my other cameras. Maybe I will have to make some adjustments, but with a point and shoot...this should be a strong point for this camera. Battery life: Well, this a stronger of this camera, and depending on how you are using it will last you for a good while. Price; It falls apart here again for me when compared even to other Canon cameras. It's on the higher side for a point and shoot in my opinion, so be sure to catch it on discount.

basic but somehow non-intuitive
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While this looks like it could compete with more functional high-end cameras, it's really a pretty basic setup. The lens is not interchangeable. It does have some zoom, but not a lot. The controls also look a lot like other more sophisticated cameras, but it took me an embarrassingly long time to find the switch between photo and movie mode. Even turning off the setting that requires a password every time you log in took several attempts. Other than that, setup was pretty straightforward. The app is okay for importing photos or videos to your phone, but it does switch your phone over to a local wifi connection with the camera while the transfer is taking place. Even though the camera connects to the phone over Bluetooth, there's not a huge amount of functionality over that connection. Photo and video quality is good but middle of the pack. It's better than your phone, but if you're spending this much to get better quality video, do you want to spend a little more and get much better quality video?
