This lens is an absolute powerhouse. The Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS USM is easily one of the best pieces of glass I’ve ever used, and it completely changes the game for portraits, sports, and events. The sharpness is unreal—even wide open at f/2.8, the images come out tack sharp from edge to edge. Pair that with the creamy, beautiful bokeh, and it creates photos that just pop off the screen. Every shot feels professional-grade, no matter the situation. The image stabilization is rock solid. I can handhold at slower shutter speeds with confidence and still walk away with razor-sharp images. Combine that with the fast, silent autofocus, and this lens makes capturing split-second moments effortless. What I really love is the versatility. At 70mm, it’s perfect for tighter portraits with amazing background separation, and at 200mm, it delivers that cinematic compression that looks absolutely stunning. It’s like having multiple prime lenses packed into one. The build quality is everything you’d expect from Canon—sturdy, weather-sealed, and built to last. It feels like a lens I can trust in any environment, from a wedding ceremony to the sidelines of a game. In short: the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS USM is legendary for a reason. It’s the kind of lens that elevates your entire kit, and I honestly don’t know how I ever shot without it.

A Compact Marvel for Travel Photography

In the world of photography, finding the perfect lens that marries versatility with performance can often feel like a quest for the Holy Grail. Enter this lens, which appears to be a beacon of hope for photographers seeking that elusive combination, especially for those who prioritize compactness without compromising on quality. Firstly, the size and design of this lens merit praise. Its compact nature, as compared to its EF counterpart, is a significant advantage. The ability to extend the lens without adding much bulk makes it an attractive option for photographers who are always on the move. This design choice not only enhances portability but also contributes to its less conspicuous presence. For street and travel photography, where blending in can be crucial, this feature is invaluable. Performance-wise, the lens does not disappoint. It offers a substantial focal range, catering to a variety of shooting scenarios from wide landscapes to tight portraits, without sacrificing image quality across the spectrum. This versatility is a boon for travelers who must often make difficult decisions about which lenses to pack. With this lens, the compromise between focal range and performance is significantly mitigated, if not entirely eliminated. However, such quality and convenience come at a cost, both figuratively and literally. The lens commands a premium price, which may be a deterrent for some. Yet, for those who view photography not just as a hobby but as a passion or profession, investing in a lens of this caliber can be justified. The adage "you get what you pay for" rings true here, with the lens' price reflecting its quality and versatility. In conclusion, if budget constraints are not a primary concern, this lens emerges as a compelling choice for photographers who value compactness, performance, and versatility. It is particularly suited for travel photography, where every inch of space and every ounce of weight matter. With its considerable focal range and impressive performance throughout, it is indeed a "lovely tool to have on the camera," offering a blend of convenience and quality that is hard to come by. Whether you're traversing bustling city streets or capturing serene landscapes, this lens promises to be a reliable companion on your photographic journeys.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely Incredible Lens! The Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM is hands-down the best telephoto zoom I've ever used. Fast, razor-sharp, and unbelievably compact for what it delivers. Whether I’m shooting portraits, live events, or wildlife, this lens delivers stunning results with buttery bokeh and rock-solid image stabilization. Worth every penny — and then some! A must-have for any EOS R shooter.

When I purchased this lens, I was wondering if it was really worth the expense - - or should I just a\stay with the EF 70-200 lens.. Well, I moved to the RF 70-200 lens and I am VERY happy that did! The lens quality is truly great and usability is greatly enhanced over the EF version. In addition to great image quality, this lens is lighter, smaller, and more capable the the EF version. For example, with this lens you can realize all of the EOS R features (e.g., full time manual focus with frustrating peaking, etc.).. The dated EF lenses work really well, but the native RF lenses have may advantages. I would encourage any serious photographer to incorporate this lens into their baseline kit!!

    Awesome New Lens

After several years of shooting with a Canon EOS 90D and the Canon EF70-200mm lens I made the jump to a new Canon EOS R7 and the Canon RF70-200mm f2.8 lens. I immediately noticed the difference in the size and weight between the EF70-200m f2.8 and the RF70-200m f2.8. The RF70-200mm f2.8 is much lighter and shorter. Combined with the new EOS R7, it made of easier and more comfortable shooting over long periods of time. Also my camera bag is now a little lighter and has a bit more room in it. The lens is awesome, pictures are sharp and clear. We have a lot of grandchildren so I shoot of lot of sports, mostly football, baseball and soccer. I've also started to do video with the camera and lens combination. Being a lighter and more compact combination than my Canon EOS 90D setup, I can shoot an entire football or soccer game with ease. I like this lens, the focus is fast and accurate with both stationary and moving subjects. It's easy to use in most lighting conditions like an early morning soccer game or evening football game. I'm looking forward to putting more time behind this great lens. My dad got me started using Canon cameras and lens many years ago because of the quality and great cameras and lens and the Canon RF70-200mm f2.8 has not disappointed me at all. I would strongly recommend this lens to anyone, even for a beginner, it might be an expensive "starter" lens, but once you see the results of what this lens can do, you'll be hooked!

Excellent lens for sports or portraits. I purchased this lens for my equestrian sports business, the reduced weight is helpful for long days shooting. This lens Pairs well with my R5 and R6. I find this lens to be fast and tack sharp.

Upgrading from the EF 70-200 IS Mark III this beast not only is more compact but has a wonderful feature on the hood that has a filter door for polarizers and ND filters. The lens is way more lightweight and the performance is steller on the R5. Only drawback is since its not a internal barrel zoom it's length extends when you zoom so balance isn't as amazing as the EF variant but thats a fair trade for all the pros and the compact travel nature of the lens. Making this a must have for wedding photography or general travel without having to leave it home anymore!

Performs quite well for sport, portraits and wildlife. Combined this with an R5/6 and its just a joy to use. Unlike prior iterations of the lens, this one is an extending zoom leading to a smaller footprint in the bag. Smart material choices also lowered the weight of the lens without compromising its durability or quality feel. The only knock I can give it is price. As awesome as this lens is, it is spendy.

Yes, it's expensive. You really need to evaluate whether or not it's worth the price for you, but if you need a 70-200 f/2.8 lens I can't imagine finding a better one. First off, the lens is compact compared to other similar lenses. It's still a little heavy, but I got used to the weight pretty quick. Beyond that, it's insanely sharp. Easily the sharpest lens I've used, except for *maybe* the EF 100mm L Macro.

I recently purchased the Canon RF 70-200mm lens and I am blown away by its performance. The lens is incredibly sharp and produces stunning bokeh. The image stabilization is top-notch and the autofocus is fast and accurate. The build quality is excellent and the lens feels solid in my hands. The focal length range is perfect for portraits, wildlife, and sports photography. The aperture range of f/2.8 allows for great low-light performance and beautiful depth of field. The telescoping design of the lens makes it compact and easy to carry around. Overall, I highly recommend the Canon RF 70-200mm lens to anyone looking for a high-quality telephoto zoom lens. It’s an amazing lens that delivers exceptional results every time.

This lens is the cream of the crop, with a price tag to match. If you're looking to shoot in the 70-200 focal length range, this lens is super sharp, and super fast. Compared to Canon's older F/2.8 70-200 lenses, this lens is small and compact yet delivers outstanding image quality. This lens comes with a tripod mount which is removable without removing the lens from the camera body, a very handy feature. That being said, I shoot most of my photos handheld, and this lens is not terribly bulky and heavy for what it offers.

This is leaps and bounds better than the EF versions and is the best 70-200 2.8 lens from any manufacturer. It's extremely sharp, light, compact, and focuses well in low light. The space savings in my bag is game changing!

This is my best upgrade from old EF version to the new RF mount. It is extremely lightweight and small than previous gen bulky design. Sharp and fast focus. You can not go wrong with this product. It is pricey though. It is must to have.

Ever since I got into photography, I have lusted after the 70-200 f/2.8 IS but could never afford it. I've finally gotten to the point where I can afford it, and have decided to get the RF mount and go mirrorless. The fact that it can fit so much easier in my bag vs the EF mount is huge. The quality is OUTSTANDING. This thing is just a beauty, and it shoots great images. The best thing to do in photography is invest in good glass. They will hold value better over the long haul and travel with you to different camera bodies. Highly recommend!
