Excellent lens at an affordable price. If you’re looking to complete your RF Lens Collection without breaking your budget, this lens is the one for you! Provides a great bokeh, has nice macro ability, and is everything you need for professional looking portraits. The focus is a little slow but for the price, you can’t beat it.

Great lens with insane bokeh. A little slow to focus for moving objects, but awesome for portrait and macro photography. Also slow for video but beautiful lens effects on still shots.

This is a great lens for beginners. It is much more affordable than the alternative RF 85mm f1.2! The picture quality and bokeh is excellent.

A beast. Produces great pictures. Used this indoors at a pretty dim lit venue. Handled it with ease. Produces great bokeh at a really good price. Took it out at dawn downtown and boy did it perform. Made the lights of the city sparkle!!! Using this on an Canon R7 so it's even tighter than 85mm. Zoom is pretty good but you can make it better depending on which type of photos you're taking with the help of the zoom toggle on the camera.

I am quite please with the quality of build, performance and results from this lens. I would not call it a budget lens but it is indeed far less expensive that the Canon ‘L’ variant. However, this lens could easily be used by a professional who wanted to save some money to afford other gear, like a second body with other lenses. I find the bokeh quite pleasing and at portrait distances from subject there is plenty of background separation with the DOF from 85mm f/1.8. Any shallower and the background becomes unrecognizable. 85mm f2 is a sweets spot IMO for portrait work. Offering some macro ability also allows me to get in for tight headshots. I would recommend this to anyone. Pro or amateur alike

Sharp images but I wish the bokeh was better. The USM 85mm 1.8 I purchased a month ago wouldn’t manually focus so I had to return and I was to afraid to purchase again. I’m loving that the lens is leightweight. I’d definitely recommend.

If you are a photographer you already know that the 85mm bokeh is of the highest standard. Good crisp lens that’s very fast. Truly my new daily driver lens.

Sharp images! I bought this as a beginner who had no idea what I was doing. Didn’t even research it first. Quickly fell in love with the images I was getting. It’s not super heavy and being able to switch from AF/MF quickly is nice. I tend to pick this lens up 9/10 times. Great budget friendly starter.
