Great upgrade from basic DSLR flash!

This unit is an good upgrade from the basic flash included on most DSLRs. However it may leave you wanting a better flash when you see what some of the very nice units out there can do for only $100 more. It includes nice features such as being able to use bounce flash (limited to only vertical 45, 60, or 75 degrees) and act as a wireless remote. It can also be used to provide wireless flash as a slave unit. Overall if you are an amateur photographer with a Cannon DSLR and just want a little nicer flash than the camera has built in, this flash is perfect for you. But if you need to use more advanced features such as horizontal bounce flash, and IR focus adjustment, then I recommend moving one step up to the Cannon SpeedLite 430 EX II.

Excellent flash for Canon Digital Camera

I needed a flash to take photos at a night wedding. Researched flashes and this one was compatible with my camera, seemed easy to understand and use since there was no extra time for "learning". Bought the Flash with help from a Best Buy associate. Returned home, read the small amount of instructions, slid the flash on the camera, used the AUTO settings, and all worked perfectly. The Flash was a big assist and improvement over the Pop-up flash I was used to using. The flash was not heavy and did not add extra bulk to the camera assembly. It was a definite "best buy"---glad I took the chance. I am completely happy with my purchase.

    Compact Flash with Power

I bought this flash for my new Canon G15 series camera. Since the camera is not as large as SLR cameras, it is a perfect size for this camera and other smaller cameras and fits very easily on the top of my camera. It also only takes 2 "AA" batteries which is much nicer that a previous one I had which was bulky on top of the camera and took 4 batteries. It has enough power to compensate for the lack of light from 10 ft. to at least 30 or 40 ft. away. My only gripe about it is the inability to adjust it in small increments upward. It only has 2 adjustments upward, one being ceiling bounce mode. But unless you're expecting to do some serious photography (even though I'm pretty picky myself), it meets all the expectations of a smaller fill flash at a good price.

    Portable Flash With So-So Purpose

This flash is a small and lightweight unit that has a bit more power than your camera's on-board flash, but not nearly the power or the flexibility and quality of a 430EXII or higher flash. Having a 5DMk3, I bought this flash because my camera has no on-board flash. This way I could slip this in my bag and it would take up almost no room. Well, the quality of the flash output and the power just wasn't enough and I almost never used it, and eventually sold it. It's not a terrible product, but I'd highly encourage the purchase of a 430EXII instead! I bought the Yongnuo 565-II flash instead, which has the power of the 580EXII but without the TTL. To each their own, but I was not a fan of this flash.

This was purchased for a Canon 5Dmkii, a camera body that has not flash. The 270EX ii is small, lightweight, 2 AA battery strobe that doubles as a portable unit or as a second flash, slave flash - for a small price. The only drawback is that although the flash can be bent upward to "bounce", like all brand small flashes, it does not swivel; only horizontal shots can be illuminated by bouncing off a ceiling, but not for vertical shots like the 430EX, etc.

    Waste of money

The first couple hours of using this flash it worked nicely, but toward the end of the event I noticed a very long recharge time after the flash goes to sleep. I thought this might be a battery issue but even after changing batteries the problem continued. I miss opportunities for several pictures in the time it takes the flash to recharge. On the other hand when it does work, it really does a good job as a fill flash.

The flash works perfectly with my Canon camera. All I had to do was add the batteries, slide the flash onto the hot shoe connection, turn on the flash and camera and I was ready to start photographing. I took sample shots without the flash and then using the flash and there was a noticeable improvement. The flash is capable of much more and I cannot wait to begin experimenting and exploring all possibilities.

To be honest, I don't generally use a flash, but I was doing a photo shoot for a friend and needed to get something to act as a fill since there was so much sun. I got it the night before and used it the next day. Stellar. Did exactly what I needed it to. It's not the biggest bang in the Speedlite line, but I imagine that for infrequent or light use personal needs it's plenty.

Its is a wonderful piece for those who are beginning in photography or those who are doing as a hobby! The directions are very simple and helpful. It has different degrees of angles that you can shoot with. The only downside I've found on this piece is that it goes through batteries quite fast. But all and all Canon made a very good project that works well and is reliable.

Works well with Canon EOS 6D

I bought this for my Canon EOS 6D. I have used it in the shoe with good results. It also can be used remotely with some model cameras and has an adapter to mount it on a tripod. I haven't tried that function, so I can't say if it works with the EOS 6D. This is the least expensive flash for the EOS D6 that Canon makes, so you could go high-end, but this works good for me.

I had not needed to take any pictures with a flash because i use my camera mainly for birding. Well, now that it's over a month since I purchased this flash I used it and it totally sucks. The little flash that is on the camera works 100 times better than this thing. I will go to the store and try to get a refund even though it's been over 30 days. I should have tried it immediately!

Lots of features to keep a hobbyist happy for a long time. slave flash works good, but needs to be in LOS of the camera front (non-radio, IR only). Good flash, nice Telescope feature to get distance out of a compact fash, and the head rotates vertically for ceiling bounce. compact design is easy to store.

This flash helps take amazing photos compared to the built in flash on our canon T3i. The small size is nice so it can be easily packed in our small camera bag. The only negative is that when it's attached to the camera, you can't bounce the flash left or right, only vertically. Highly recommend this to upgrade the appearance of your indoor photos.

I have been wanting to add one of these to my Canon Rebel since I bought the camera. Whenever I used the built in flash you could see it was struggling and would not light the entire area I was trying to capture. Not so with this flash, it fills the picture nicely to give a more uniformed picture and it re-charges really fast. I love this thing.

This flash is nice and compact. Puts out plenty of light for casual photography, reflects nicely off light ceilings for a cool glow. Is pretty quick to respond, Only complaint is that it eats through batteries pretty quickly, but looking into high powered rechargeables.

There isn't any pop up flash for the 6d. The 270ex is small and easily carried for occasions that a flash may be needed in a low light situation or as a fill in contrasty day light situations. For these situations it's a great problem solver. Perfect for these intended purposes and packs a lot more power than the pop up.

Just not sold that this was the right flash. Bought so I would have at Christmas but found I didn't really need it with my T3i and in the settings I used my camera. We'll see this Friday when I have an opportunity to do more shooting outside and don't have the same lighting available & will be working at different distances to see how it works.

Not a pro speedlite. Looks like its more power full than stock flash. It tilts, so I can bounce the light of the ceiling. I also have a difuser for it, so it eliminates harsh head on flash. It works as a slave with my 70D, so I like that feature as well. But if you are looking for power full speedlite, with manual controls, look elsewhere.

This is the smaller version of Canon flash units, I am glad I did not get the the bigger heavier one, the 6D with the 24-105 L lens and the flash , are already heavy enough, especially if you don’t take photos for a living

It's fairly small. Good for beginners. Does the job in dark environments. Used it on my 6d mark ii which doesn't come with a built in flash and I think it was worth it.
