I have only used it twice so far but have been impressed with the video quality. I like the simultaneous recording to both SD cards so you have a backup in case one card fails. I also like that it shoots natively in 24p. Of course the 32GB internal memory is not bad either. There is an adapter available so you can turn the hot shoe into a cold shoe for accessories such as a light or external microphone. It's also nice to have the mic and headphone jacks. I ordered from the Best Buy site and was am thankful for the quick delivery.

Very good camera, but could be a lot better

So, first things first: The picture quality is great. I should give this camera 5 stars. However, there are so many other little things wrong with this camera, that it makes wonder, how Canon is still in business. 1) If you are a casual shooter, who holds the camera in a traditional way, that is not an issue for you. But if you ever decide to use a cage or any sort of a grip, then positions of recording and zoom buttons become a nightmare. If you hold the cage with your left hand, you can use your right hand to press record button, but then you will not see the screen. (you would literally have to switch hands). If you hold the cage with your right hand, you can see the screen, but now you are unable to press record. Thus you are forced to use remote. 2) Again, I understand that this is not a fully professional camcorder, but come on! Touchscreen manual controls are idiotic. I had to read the stupid manual to see how to change the memory card option. Sony makes, a similar semi-professional camcorder with controls being little buttons and dials. (so, you do not spend half your life searching through touch screen menus) 3) The camera is very slow to initialize. If you need to take quick videos of something unexpected, and you need to do it quick, you better keep the camcorder on at all times. Otherwise it will take a few seconds for the camcorder to initialize. It will simply not allow you to record until it initializes itself. 4) Mini-hot shoe. I have no problem with mini-hot shoe. What I have a problem with, is Canon's failure to make any reasonable accessories for it. And before you say: Wait, I have seen mini hot shoe accessories on Canon site. One sorry microphone and one sorry light do not count. (There is a cheap solution to this problem. I have found a converter online for nearly nothing. So, not too big of a deal) 5) Really, I mean really?!? Video management software is for Windows only. I would love for Canon, to be more upfront about it and put it on the box. NOT COMPATIBLE WITH MAC. I called Canon and was informed to use iMovie or any other 3rd part software. That is all fine and good, but I expect, when I spend over $1K on a product, for the product to come with compatible software. 6) Which brings me to the next issue. I used to be a Canon guy. All my photo gear was Canon. I had no problem with Canon, that is, until I needed customer service. I forgot why I switched to Nikon for my photography needs. Until, I had to call Canon, to enquire about the software. Simply put, Canon hires abusive customer service reps to put its customers down. However, with all that said, I think, I am going to keep the camera. When I got home, after my shoot, I was shocked at how great the picture quality was. For it being a very cheap camera (in it's class). I did not expect the quality to be so great. I am willing to (at least for the time being) ignore the little shortcomings of Canon.

I had been thinking about getting a new camcorder for quite a while and did quite a bit of research. After reading the reviews I decided to get this one. I am very happy with it so far. Haven't got to use it much but the few times I did I was very happy with the image quality. Even in very dark rooms I got some gorgeous shots. I know this costs more than many that are available but this is worth the extra bucks. I am extremely glad I chose this one. Highly recommend!
