    Exceeded My Expectations

This was the first camcorder I have purchased in over 20 years, and my how the technology has advanced. I wanted to be able to take videos of my sons lacrosse games and I must say the quality of the footage at 60p is amazing, even at indoor facilities with dimmer lighting. Initial setup was fairly easy. (battery does take about 7 hours for the initial charge) I went with the R800 over the other 2 models with internal storage and just got a 64gb memory card instead. I like to transfer my videos the same day I shoot them so I can keep them organized on my external storage drive. I also read a lot of reviews on the wifi features of the more expensive versions and decided it wasn't worth spending the extra dollars on. I keep a JOBY - GorillaPod™ 325 Tripod attached to it if I need to set it down, and also to help keep it steady in my shaky hand. Overall I am very pleased with this camcorder features, ease of use, and quality of videos. When I found it on sale for $169 at Best Buy, I was even happier :)

There is not a lot of bells and whistles on this camcorder but it takes great looking movies and nice stills. I definitely recommend this camcorder.

An excellent camcorder for the price. It records in HD video in 30 or 60 frame rate. It can record in lower than HD for faster upload to the internet, although not at the same time as recording in HD. It has zoom, a mic input, a headphone output, an HDMI output, and a USB output. It's screen can be pointed either towards the operator, or toward the subject being recorded. It has a touch screen that can control many settings. It lacks some of the features of more expensive models such as Wi-Fi capability and the ability to be controlled by a cell phone. It has no internal memory, so you can't use it without purchasing a SD card, but it can take a high capacity SD card. It is designed for a right handed person, so a left handed person will find it difficult to use because there is a strap on the right hand side for a right handed person to inset their hand through thus positioning their thumb on the start/stop record button on the back and their index finger on the zoom button on the top. Other controls for the right handed person to operate with the index finger of their left hand are on the left side of the camera and on the screen which extends from the left. I don't know if the manufacturer has a left handed model or not. It is a good camera for making home videos.

For the money this is a fairly inexpensive and incredibly small digital video recorder. I wanted something that was NOT my cell phone to take video with and this so far out of the box seems to be a very decent camera for the money. It is not only wi-fi capable, but also has a touch screen to make on the fly editing or deletions simple and easy. The box came with two cables, a battery charger, the camcorder and the battery. There is also apparently an app you can download for your phone and or tablet, that will allow you to control your camera, edit and make changes as you go. For the money, this in of itself is a fantastic deal for those people who wanted the ability to shoot hi-def video without having to do a lot of extra stuff to set it up. It comes with the obligatory mounting hole for your regular tripod. It’s a pretty straightforward package and the video quality for being less than $250 is quite good indeed. I have not had much time to really play with it as it is for a project that I am currently undertaking. There are software apps you can download but in all honesty do not bother as most of them are marginal at best. Canon makes good cameras, but their software is less than stellar. I can see right now that this incredibly small camera, and I mean INCREDIBLY SMALL will make it easy if you intend to go hiking or in my case, go hunting Bigfoot, UFO’s and the paranormal. Very very light weight. The zoom and auto focus are unreal. I can see things right now across the way at my neighbor’s place that I cannot unsee now. That’s clarity for you. All kidding aside, this is an amazing value, especially when the SD card I bought was a fourth of the price of the camera. If you are just getting started in the world of film, or wanting to try your hand at becoming the next internet influencer, or YouTube star, this is probably the best way to go. I thin you’ll be satisfied with your results.

Bought this as an upgrade for my older JVC. Excellent picture quality in average light although it seems to get a little grainy in lower light. The .mp4 files play back without issue. The camera is easy to hold and control with one hand and the battery life seems to be very good. I don't know how long you can go on a full charge because I haven't recorded anything longer than 45 minutes yet. Overall I am very pleased with the quality of the camcorder so far.

We were looking for a simple to use camcorder when having our first child. This one holds a good charge, shoots good video, small, lightweight, easy to use. Quite pleased with our selection.

I like the quality this camera gives for what little money it costs to buy. I really like the fact that you can take snap shots while you are recording, and if you pause a video on the camera you can take a snap shot of that as well. Love the touch screen, and very user friendly

This is an improvement to the earlier version of the same camera. It has a much, much larger battery - almost 3 hours of available use. The various settings, though different, are well suited for typical uses. Most importantly to me is that it has an external microphone input which I often use. Saying that, the internal microphone does an amazing job as I found out when recording a vocal recital. I use the camera on a weekly basis to record a church service which is then posted on-line. The microphone input is used to connect the camera to the sound mixer and it works well. The other functions are equally as good and the still picture capability is also very useful. There is no doubt that to really take advantage of the camera's features one needs to spend time with the instructions, various menus and other available supports. One negative is that when using the camera connected to the charger, a hum exists. This was also the case with the previous version. However, since the newer battery is so large, I simply record with it. I have recommended it to others.

The short videos I tried in low light were decent, the extended zoom was neat but it takes several seconds for the auto focus to clear up where it's pointing. For the price it's good.

Good: The R800 LCD GUI. Great picture and color fidelity. Same solid build and virtually identical form as the previous models which I like a lot. Nice weight and size to carry around. Lots of functionality and options. However some aren't doucmented well. A Programmed shooting mode to set indoor white balance which I use once in a while. Smooth zoom lever like the old models. OK: Decent audio about the same as the old mdoels depending on the situation. Matte finish which gets a little clammy in the hand but not bad instead of the older gloss. That's a nitpick. Bad: Noisy clicking sound in Auto Focus (not manual focus but that's not easy to use), Noisy zoom lever mechanical sound. Both are audible on the video in quieter scenes indoors or out! Low end Sony's do too. It might not be audible in louder outdoor settings. Poor video in low light. Those issues have been reported in a couple other reviews but not all of them. It might not bother you.

It really is a nice small camera, but the only thing I don't like is that I can't get finger prints off of the image screen. I've used a soft cloth, like they said to, but it doesn't work. The camera is easy to learn how to use, and takes wonderful videos! The battery holds a great charge also.

This is not an amazing camera, but it is darn good for what it costs. I wish there was something in between this one and the real high end stuff but I couldn’t find one so this one is standing in and doing a good enough job. Not great in low light, not fantastic when zoomed in but I haven’t seen anything close to as good for this price. It gets the job done and saves a pile of money... ok, I’m a “glass is half empty” guy today! Let’s try this... If you need a camera for vlogging or shooting movies of the kids social distancing at the park with their pals... then this is The camera for you! Get it and enjoy. If you are looking to make movies and compete for an Oscar, either shell out some big money for a top end unit or try a “Blair witch” type production and use this! Go ahead, buy it, you might not be sorry :)
