So - I know this movie got terrible reviews. And I can totally understand why it got terrible reviews. This is not an Oscar winning movie. HAHA! But it was soo good! I am an avid Andrew Lloyd Webber fan! So this was a treat. I wrote a lengthy review for my facebook - haha! So I am just going to copy and paste. My main point though- try it out - with an open mind. Unless you did not enjoy the stage musical Cats. If you don 't like the musical - or don't get it, you will not enjoy the movie. I am trying to remember the first big musical they turned into a movie. At least in my lifetime. I know we have Oklahoma and all those Golden Age ones. But in the last 20 years we have welcomed Phantom. Rent. Hairspray. Into the Woods. You get my point. And vice versa - there have been movies that have been turned into musicals. Elf - The Bodyguard - Anastasia - Frozen - Moulin Rouge - etc. Now, I think an actor or someone totally obsessed with theater would have a different take on some of these experiences than the - average movie goer. Seeing a show before you live on stage presents a completely different experience than watching a movie - and the experience is heighted 10 fold if you have spent time on the stage yourself and understand the amazing power of transformation you go through. I think - that when you watch something on stage - your brain excuses some things because you are transported to another world where anything is possible. Sometimes so much more than a movie can. I loved and hated the Bodyguard because I already put myself into movies - watching it live... was WAY to … real. LOL! Especially in the time when I saw it. Anyway - I shall move on to the point. Now - in our recent love affair with Musicals - movies and live experiences alike - I think we can agree that some experiences should not transcend to the other. Moulin Rouge makes COMPLETE sense as to why that would be both movie and musical. I hope I get to see it one day!! But War Horse? As a musical? That movie is about - horses - how did they do that?! Course I thought the same thing when I learned that Lion King was going to be made into a musical and that was FANTASTIC. All that being said - I think there are some musicals - that should not be made into movies. Cats. The musical does a good job asking you to believe what is unbelievable - that all these actors are in fact … Cats. Something that can get borderline cheesy at times. I have seen the musical several times and have taken different things away from it each time. When the movie came out - the first thing I thought was, There is NO dialogue in that show - how are they going to make that into a movie. Which - I can see where the experience would be a Love or Hate thing. You either Love it - or you hate it. It is my understanding that most have hated it. I can totally see why. It asks you to take your imagination to places it should never go - and it does it in an extremely cheesy way. I will admit it is very odd spending the better part of almost 2 hours watching actors try to be cats. But then again...…… I absolutely LOVED it!!!! I LOVE the musical. The first time I saw the musical I had NO idea what was happening but that was okay. I bought a ticket for a crazy ride and I enjoyed every moment of it! It was the same with the movie! I was still - unsure after about 20 minutes… (they almost lost me with Rebel Wilson) but honestly - it's a very accurate depiction of the musical. I guess I am the weird one. Maybe not so much weird but more eclectic. It doesn't make sense and it's totally cheesy - but I don't care. I love just watching all this odd feline mayhem!

The critics reviewed this like a normal movie. It isn't. It is an adaption of a Broadway musical that is/was fantastic. Music and dancing are very good. I gave it 4 stars because I don't think it is as good as the original Cats movie from 1998 which I would give 5 stars.

I loved this film. It is a good reimagining of a great Broadway musical. No, the fake cat fur CG isn't that bad or distracting as some would lead you to believe. It is no worse than seeing cat costumes on live Broadway actors. Just enjoy it for would it is.

Like most people, I was a little put off by the awkward CG human-feline hybrids, and I wasn't the biggest fan of Jennifer Hudson's, Ian McKellan's, and Judi Dench's performances in this as singers (Hudson's singing seemed more like she was angry and attacking the song instead of singing a somber song from the heart, and Dench and McKellan are unfortunately just not known for their singing), and the tune to Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer was changed by someone who only knows four notes on the scale. But it still told a beautiful story, used one of the dancers from the original play to serve as the audience, and included a beautiful new song.

It was pretty decent , pretty much what I expected and was quite pleased with Taylor Swift ..although I figured she would be amazing ....knowing the songs prior to watching made it more fun to watch I think

It wasn’t long lived in the theater but it was listed on sale at Best Buy website and store. Unfortunately it rang up for $10 more than the sale price...but we got a manager override.

Cats does have have some of the worst CGI ever, but the musical score and the dance are up there with any classic musical. Most of the star performances don’t quite match the supporting/unknown performances, but that being said, I enjoyed the overall feel of the movie. I think changing the setting from a junkyard on stage to the streets of London was another mistake as well. But if you love the score and lyrics/poems of the stage show it worth a look.

Having seen Cats live on stage is a very powerful and enjoyable production. But all in all this movie is worth watching. But you should also if available see it on stage.

This movie has emotion, and pulls at your heart. If you don't get that, than you simple don't get the theatre. This is masterfully done, with technology of the day, to make it as realistic as possible on film that isn't possible on stage. From the twitch of the tail to the ears, I would recommend this to any true fan of the theatre.

This movie was very enjoyable and well done despite what the moronic critics say it is. Loved the CGI...tails and ears twitching, nuances of cats...hautiness...mischievous kitties was fun to watch...loved the music and YES l did see the live stage production...screen adaption was well done. Critics always has to find a holiday "scapegoat" cuz their palms was not greased!...

Buying it to hate watch it? Not me. I love this movie! I'm a huge fan of the original content and I think this version is lots of fun! Now, I can also concede that most people, especially non fans of the original, would find the digital costumes disturbing or off putting, but for me personally, it was a non issue.
