Hard to follow "All I Was"

Make no mistake, Tremonti's newest album, "Cauterize," is very solid in my opinion. The first three tracks on the album particularly have great momentum, including "Flying Monkeys," which has an altered tempo that works for me before slamming into a final drive of guitar & percussion. "Another Heart" is the first single that was a known winner for me with Mark's signature vocals on top of great instrumentation. Garrett Whitlock's drumming is upbeat & explosive throughout the album. My reason for giving this only 4 stars would be that the middle & latter part of the album seemed a little bit redundant to me - I was having a more difficult time differentiating clearly between the songs. That being said, I also thought that the bar had been set extremely high by "All I Was," the group's first album released about three years ago. In a nutshell, the vocals, guitar work (of course!) and all other instrumentation are very strong - the bonus live tracks from four of the first album's songs was a nice blast from the recent past.

I am a fan of AlterBridge, but had not followed Tremonti's solo work until this album. Although a few of the songs had an "AlterBridge" feel, overall the sound is harder and heavier, and I loved it. "Flying Monkeys" is a favorite, but the whole album rocks. The bonus live songs are from the first album are good, but the recording volume was set much lower than the rest of this album

Stellar follow-up

Mark Tremonti and company return with a stellar follow-up to "All I Was", and in my opinion, even better. "Cauterize" is heavier than "All I Was", but definitely doesn't suffer on the melodies as a result. Dark Trip and Fall Again are the album's ballads and hold their own. My favorites are: Cauterize, Arm Yourself, Sympathy, and Providence. This is 10 of the 20 songs that were recorded. The other 10, not to be thought of as B-sides, should be released later this year on an album titled, "Dust".

Okay so I bought this cd for two reasons...
1) I love Mark. He is brilliant in anything he touches.
and 2) Because of Wolfgang Van Halen.
I have always been a van halen fan. And even though it is cool Wolf gets to play with his dad in VH, lets be honest, he has HUGE shoes to fill (Michael Anthony). This cd I believe has truly given him a chance to be his own man. He really shines on it. As soon as the cd starts you can FEEL that bass. GOOD NIGHT! Perfect cd. Marks playing is fantastic as always.

Anyone who is familiar with the name Tremonti knows exactly how brilliant of a guitarist he is. If you listened to the first album released under this moniker then you also know he has a great voice and writes heartfelt lyrics. This album is another step in the growth of the project. I highly recommend purchasing this album.

I have to admit I am a Creed fan and I do miss them. I also like Alter Bridge, probably a tick below Creed. But one constant is Mr. Tremonti. He had one sound for Creed, a slightly harder sound with Alter Bridge and IMHO pulls out all the stops with his solo efforts. Good old school heavy rock. An absolute must for lovers of great guitar.

Everything Mark Tremonti does get's better and better, from Creed to Alter Bridge and now his solo work. One of the most underrated guitarists in rock/metal... and he's actually a pretty good singer, now that he's the vocalist along with main guitarist on his solo work. Two solo albums - get both of them and everything by Alter Bridge.

This is the second album from Mark Tremonti who is better known as the lead guitarist for Creed and more recently Alter Bridge. This is a great solo album from Mark. This album builds on the sound of Alter Bridge. The bonus tracks are live tracks from the first album. Mark if you are reading this...See you in October at the Warfield.

What can I say, Mark fronts his solo project while also maintaining the awesome Alter Bridge. He excels at both and is a real workhorse musition. This album has tracks that will lay you out flat like a suckerpunch while also carrying the great melodies he is know for from Creed and A.B. If you like hard rock, this is for you.

Tremonti continues to impress and this new album is no exception! His work in Creed and Alter Bridge is simply phenomenal but with his solo works, he just takes it up a notch and his playing is absolutely impressive! I wish that he would do a heavier metal/thrash album in lines with what he states his influences are though.

This is the best album I have listened to in a long time! In support of this album, Mark, eRock and Garrett are touring with Tanner Keegan standing in for Wolfie who is currently touring with Van Halen. If you get a chance to catch this show, you will NOT be disappointed! This CD is a must-have for your collection!!!

Excellent album from a true guitar virtuoso. If you like hard rock and metal, this is a must. Only downside is that the "live bonus tracks" are just live in studio at Fret 12, and the recordings / mix really aren't very good.

I knew my son really wanted this album and every time he plays Tremonti for me I like it, so...I bought it and really like it! Obviously, Mark's guitar playing is amazing, and the guy can sing! Solid band behind him too. Can't wait to see them live next month!

Tremonti's heavy and melodic guitar riffs are simply amazing. Tremonti is quickly becoming one of the greats. If you dig heavy rock guitar with great vocals to add. a must for your collection.

Heavier than expected

Tremonti's new album rocks pretty hard. Much heavier, faster, and riff oriented than I expected, this album has some fine guitar work by the ex-Creed axeman and some decent solos. Some of the songs blend together by the end and Tremonti's work in Alterbridge is better, but this is a solid album.

Mark Tremonti is a fantastic singer, phenomenal guitar player and a great songwriter. The songs on this album have more variety and depth. Plus Wolfie plays bass on this one. Great release!

I didn't know how Tremonti could top their debut album but they did with Cauterize! Overall it is a "heavier" album than the first but it still incorporates Mark's signature melodic playing

this guy is way to good just to be known as the guitar player from Creed. how he finds the time to put this record out as well as work with Alter Bridge is amazing. this album ROCKS!
