Added this product to our house so that the kids could come and go without leaving the garage open all the time. Extremely simple setup. You do have to setup a Chamberlain account to utilize the app though. Would be 5 stars except the app is a little disappointing, but very simple to use. Would be great to have multiple users and the ability to see their activities. The current app format required me to put my main account login on all the family devices. The notifications are spotty on whether you get them or not. I have only tested the email notification, as the push option would send alert to all my devices due to only one user login allowed. Lastly, the alerts are a little odd; I wanted one to tell me if the door was left open from 10 PM to 5 AM for more than 15 minutes. You have to set up two alerts as it doesn't recognize past midnight on an alert (i.e had to do one alert for 10-11:59 PM and a second alert for 12:00 AM to 5 AM). Total time including mounting to the garage ceiling took 25 minutes. Gets the job done and the main purpose of my kids activating from their phones works perfect.

I set this up in about 15 minutes after watching a youtube clip that gave some good pointers. I could not get the Bluetooth to connect but was easily able to get the wifi setup mode to connect. After the connection, the process couldn't have been easier as the app walks you through all the steps. I wish I had this years ago. Works great to make sure the door is closed and gives you a time log of when its open and closed. Had a contractor come over today and I was able to know when they came and left and how long they were there even though I had given them my keypad code to get in. In the future I can just control the door now and keep our code private. I would recommend to everyone who has high speed internet and smartphone.

Received the MyQ Garage system as a gift after seeing it in action at my Daughter and Son-in-laws home. Really like being able to control my garage door from my smartphone, check its status at any time, and receive alerts/emails when the door opens or closes. This is a HUGE security advantage. It takes very little time to install the two components on the garage door and ceiling (ten minutes max - if you're clumsy#, and the software setup was remarkably easy. Very nice integration with initial Bluetooth connection to facilitate install and set up on my iPhone. #The Bluetooth is only for set up, then it converts to controlling the door through the smartphone app via the internet.) The iPhone app is very intuitive and well designed. This is a great addition to a home security system that gives you convenience and piece of mind at an extremely affordable price.

I'm a bit of an automation junkie. I have most things with an on/off switch controllable by my phone. One thing that had not come into the fold was the garage door. My home has a Genie opener from the late 90s, that's working perfectly well. Saw the advertisements for the Chamberlain MyQ system, but wasn't aware that this product was available for non-Chamberlain openers! You can really mount the MyQ device anywhere in your garage. You just need to stick the position sensor on the garage door somewhere. From there, installation is dead simple, particularly with an iPhone. It communicates by wifi, but you can push your iPhone's wifi settings to it by just pairing to it with bluetooth - no need to pick SSIDs or type in passwords. I've never seen such a simple, genius way to get something online. Once online, you open the app and input the device's serial number. From there it walks you through pairing its transmitter to your garage door opener. I picked Genie, then it told me to push the Learn button on the opener. I did so, then continued along in the app. The opener then started moving the door, and the app noticed thanks to the sensor. That's it. Now I can open and close the garage door from my phone, and I was able to configure it to send me a notification if I leave the door open for more than 30 minutes.

    Nice wifi garage door controller

I bought this and installed it myself. Installing both boxes was like 15 minutes, had to get ladder, drill, and screwdriver. Wifi signal was strong so it synced rather quickly to my Android phone. Notification to my phone of door status is within seconds. I can also see a complete history of door status thru the phone app. Installing the app was a chore though but after 6 attempts it finally all came together. Wish there was instructions on how to install the app, step by step. Had to rely on what I think they wanted me to do next. Also, I do not have the Chamberlain compatible door opener. I have a Martin garage door opener which is not supported but I still can use it to alert me on my phone the status each time door opens and closes. I just cannot open or close the door from my phone. Which is actually fine. I would not want someone stealing my phone and opening the door at their whim and rob me blind! Someday, hopefully, they'll have one compatible for Martin doors. For now, this is great peace of mind knowing the status of my door when we're away.

It's a great tool for keeping an eye on your garage door when family members are on the move. I think it is a little to pricey but it does its job well so far. There is a small delay in receiving the confirmation of movement but nevertheless you get the confirmation.

I purchased this product to give myself peace of mind in knowing I closed the garage when I leave for work, vacation, etc. It has saved me a couple times when I rushed out the garage and left the door open. I have had some false readings on this device. If your door faces the wind and a bad storm rolls up it will rattle the door and you will get alerts the door has opened. It has not, and you can login the app to verify its in the closed state. Also if it gets really cold outside and the garage is warm and the door has condensation it may seep into the door sensor. (In the winter I place door sensor in a freezer bag while attached to the door) Setup took a bit of technology know how. You need to know you way around a tablet or smartphone and changing which wifi network you are attached to. Difficulty rating to setup 3.5 out of 5. The device creates its own wifi network for setup only once configured it connects to your home wifi router. When it does this you need to switch back over to your home wifi. Compatibility: What garage door openers does it work with? If your door has the up down dip switches its probably too legacy for this product. If your garage door has a security programming button on the back of the opener to program new remotes you are probably good. Check vendor website for more specifics. App Use: App is very simple and at time of writing this review had no service fees associated with using the app. App can be used on cellular or wifi network anywhere to open/close or check status of your door. --- Full Disclosure I'm an associate of a BestBuy store but this review is based on my private experience using this product. The review expressed here is my personal thoughts and feelings on the product.

This is the best thing since sliced bread! I always drive off and look back to see if my garage door is closed and now those days are over! It took about 20 minutes to install but it is super cool and allows you to set alerts as well as shows you how long the garage door is closed or opened for. The sinks for the screws for the base unit are a little budget but overall it is great!

    Almost perfect

Ok, this is the coolest thing since sliced bread. If you have an automatic garage door opener, then obviously you have a remote to open it from your car as you are pulling up. But, this eliminates the need for you to be right out in front of your house to open the door. I have actually taken my garage door remote out of my car for security reasons (in case someone breaks into my car and gets my address and remote). Now, I use ONLY the app to open the door when I'm about 2 blocks away, so I don't have to wait for it to open when I pull up. To keep people from opening the app on your phone and getting into the garage, you can set the app to open with a password or 4 digit PIN (or, if you're not worried about such things, you can set the app to open with no security#. I have already used it to remotely open my garage door when I was out of town, and my neighbor had to pull my trash can in. He called me, told me he was standing right outside my garage, I used the app to open the door #from 1 state away#, he put the can in, then I closed it from the app. Also, I have a friend who has one of these #but DOES NOT have an exterior garage door opener keypad# who has gotten a phone call or two from children who are home from school, but have "lost" or "forgot" the key to the house, and can't get in. PRESTO, right from work, they can open the garage door and let them in. WAY COOL. #ok, I'm a big tech nerd#. Two reasons why it is "almost perfect": 1. The first part of the setup is getting it hooked up to your home wifi network. While the setup is not exactly rocket science, you do have to follow the steps carefully to get it all hooked up correctly. If you are someone who is "tech challenged", this may be a challenging step, but not impossible. The second part of the setup is getting it to talk to the garage door opener itself. Again, while not terribly difficult, it did take a little time. After I programed the MyQ to the door opener, I had to reprogram the car remote #in case I needed to put it back in my car# and I also had to reprogram the exterior remote keypad #the one attached to the garage door frame exterior#. 2. This is the most annoying thing about this, and I have called Chamberlain to complain/alert them about this, but I don't know how much good it did. There is a sensor that has to be attached to the garage door itself to sense the status of the door #open or closed#, and it is VERY sensitive. If the door is CLOSED and jiggles AT ALL #strong wind, someone bumping against it, etc...# the door sensor moves and sometimes thinks the door has opened. So, you go to the app and expect the door to say closed, but the system thinks it is "open", and shows it open #but it is still closed#. Sometimes it gets confused, and I have had to cycle the garage door from the push button opener in the garage #the one mounted on the wall next to the door that goes into the house#. This usually resets it. If the garage door is not jiggled, then it works perfectly. I have been looking for a different place to mount the sensor, but haven't really found anywhere on the door that is "jiggle proof" #MAYBE at the very bottom of the door, it seems that when the door is closed and butted against the cement of the garage floor, it seems to jiggle there less than higher up on the door#. Also, keep in mind that it takes wifi to work, so if your home wifi network or internet, or power to your router/modem goes down, this will not work until it is restored. Having understood these "limitations" or "quirks", the convenience of having this outweighs those "quirks", and I love it. I would definitely recommend this to a friend, and already have.

As advertised, it really did take only half a hour to install. In half an hour my ipad could control the garage opener. My parents have an ipad with an older iOS system (ios5)and I was still able to get it to work by going to www.myliftmaster.com/mobile and entering the email and password. Basically you can use the garage opener by downloading their app or by simply using a web browser. That's convenient.

This product provides the ability to monitor and control the opening/closing of your garage door from your smart phone. It was very easy to install using the phone application. I purchased a second door sensor from an online source for less than $30 because Best Buy or the home improvement stores do not sell the sensor. It installed in less than 5 minutes with the phone app. Chamberlain has a great product and should update it to control up to 3 garage doors. I hope they keep the connection to their server free of charge.

The set up and installation was a breeze. I would've given it a 5 star review, but I wouldn't liked the ability for the garage to close after a set time (so that you can't fall asleep with the door open). I know you could get in trouble with this feature, like getting locked out. But if you're responsible enough, you wouldn't get locked out. But then again, if you're responsible enough, you wouldn't need this to close the door for you when you forget to close it yourself. Lol. Either way, I'd have liked that feature.

Best buy told me this was backordered and it still arrived in two days! Worked right away. I tried it in my living room first to make sure it would work with the app and my wifi. The instructions say to put it on the ceiling near the opener - but it must be visible when standing in the open door. That's not possible in my garage since I have a 15 ft ceiling. So I put it on the back wall near the manual wall switch. Works like a champ!! Hope it lasts as long as my garage door opener which is now 19 years old. This solves my problem of occasionally leaving home and returning to a garage door that I forgot to close.

It's a neat gadget. Works as described. Needed to call support during set up and while the agent that helped me could have been better, she did help me through the set up process so that's a good thing. The only negative I see is the App (on android) used to control the system. It reminds me of a website from 10 years ago or something an beginner User Experience designer would do. That's the only thing that needs major updates. Getting past the App, it's a really good product. Works well.
