Customers are saying
Customers consistently note the excellent camera quality, ease of use, and straightforward installation of the myQ Smart Garage Security Camera. Many appreciate the convenient features like motion detection, night vision, and two-way communication. However, a significant drawback mentioned is the lack of local storage options, requiring a paid cloud storage subscription for video recording. The strong magnet mounting system is also frequently praised.

Image quality lacking, hefty subscription fee
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Installing the camera is easy, no tools needed. The base has a strong magnet that holds it to my garage door opener. There is also an adhesive pad if needed. I ran the power wire up to the outlet my garage door opener is plugged into. I was fortunate to have a double outlet with one outlet available. If not, a power splitter block is cheap and easy. The camera mount is versatile, and the quality of the hardware is top notch. The app setup is easy the image is fair. The wide angle easily covers the entire door when opened. But the image is in night vision mode which is B&W unless the ceiling lights in the garage are on, which they normally are not. I have a camera from the company I have my video doorbell and alarm with that provides a much better picture in color in the same light. Like most things you’ll need to pay a monthly subscription fee for video storage and to use some of the other features of this product. I find the subscription fee to be high compared to other devices with far more features. E.g., my home alarm allows 6 moth video storage of their brand of cameras, and I have 10 cameras as well as a video doorbell. All for the same price as this myQ app. All these little subscriptions are like a death by a thousand cuts. They add up. Some built-in memory or an SD card slot should have been included at this price. If I get an alert, I can use it to quickly see what’s going on. I’m getting burned out on all the monthly subscription fees to use things I buy. While the build quality is high and the mounting is well thought out, the only advantage this camera has is it works with the myQ app for which you must pay a hefty subscription fee to fully use. There is lots of competition in the home security camera space. Many cameras are at and below this price point with built-in storage that does not require any subscription fee to use the features. And some, possibly many provide a better picture. Many will also send a motion alert to your phone at no cost. Do your research. If you decide to try it, open the package carefully and try it promptly so you can return it during the return period if your findings are similar to mine.

Eyes and ears for you garage
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.PROs - Easy to install and setup - Good daytime 1080p video quality - Motion and person alerts CONs - IR night vision performance could be better - Pulling up the camera feed can sometimes take awhile In addition to adding the outdoor myQ keypad which helps keep track of who is coming in and out of your garage I also wanted a way to keep track of what’s going on inside my garage. The myQ garage camera is great for that with versatile mounting options, a 1080p sensor and IR night vision, especially if you will be using delivery services that enter through your garage. The myQ WiFi camera is pretty straightforward and easy to setup. It was packed well with foam and rubber around the pivoting joints in the box to make sure it shipped safely. The camera has a micro-USB port that an angled USB connector plugs into. The cable is about 6 ft long from the adapter, so you have some flexibility in how far you want to place your camera from the AC wall adapter. The camera has a stand so you can easily place it on a shelf in your garage. The base is also magnetic, so you can attach it to anything made of steel – no screws or fasteners required. There are screws and adhesive pads included if you need to get creative for your mounting location. After powering on the unit and connecting it to my Wi-Fi I was prompted to complete a firmware update. During the setup you define where the camera is and have the opportunity to link it to a garage door opener. Doing this tells the app to tie the open/close button to that camera feed in the UI presenting them in a group together, which makes using the app all that more streamlined. Other settings in the app allow you to adjust the speaker volume. I found that the default was too quiet to understand - so I turned it up to the maximum level. The microphone and speaker quality is useable and you can understand what the person on the other side is saying, but the quality could be better on both the speaker and microphone. This isn't the primary intention of this camera, so none-the-less it's a nice feature to have. You can modify the motion sensitivity as well, but I found that the default was pretty good at generating the events I cared about without being too sensitive. In the history tab of the myQ app you can see all the events as well as filter on camera and different access events like keypad, garage opening/closing, and package delivery - if you have that enabled through the relevant provider. Overall, the camera quality when there is natural light or a light on in the garage is pretty good with it’s 1080p sensor. In the absence of enough light where the IR led and filter turns on the video quality is okay, but I wish the range of the IR LED was better. Much of my garage was too dark to make out the shapes of some objects. Though people do show up a bit better - it might be hard to make out facial features. For best performance I would try to position the camera either on the garage motor itself or even further back several feet to try and capture the entire garage. To be fair deliveries are going to be made during the day so there should always be enough natural light in those scenarios, but in terms of this functioning as a security camera I'd really like to see better IR performance.

Buy a Ring camera
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worst product, the quality of the hardware is very poor, you will be better of buying a ring camera which actually works, they should stick to the garage door opener.

Posted .Hi Paul, thank you for your review. We are very sorry to hear that you had issues with the camera, however, we are glad you were able to find an alternative option. We always suggest trying to connect it on a 2.4Ghz as a 5Ghz network won't be the most stable connection for the camera. We appreciate the time and effort you took to set it up. Totally worth it!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Summary ------- Nice camera which can be mounted below the garage opener with a magnetic base. Works with myq app and has person detection. Has a live view and good device to monitor activity within the garage Pros ---- 1. Good 108p video 2. Very good night vision 3. Easy installation and mounting Cons --- 1. Video storage needs subscription 2. Details ------- The setup was a breeze. You can mount it directly below the garage opener and the garage camera draws power from the garage opener which is great. The camera can be seen directly on the myq app. The camera comes with a free 30 day trial cloud storage and after which it will be a paid service at 3.99 per month or 39.99 per year. I would have rather paid a bit more for the camera and be allowed to store videos on an microSD card. Once the trial ends, you would still get the notifications and see live video but not any prior recordings. I think i am ok with that setup. The camera also has person detection which is great because at which point i could choose to go live. The camera has 2 way communication and you can listen and talk .. I dont have amazon prime so i cant sign up for key by amazon. I think purely based on compatibiluty, ease of use for the price, it is a worthy buy!

Good Motion Sensing Camera But Needs Subscription
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The MyQ Smart Camera comes from Chamberlain, a garage door opener manufacturer who also makes LiftMaster openers, which is what I have. I have been using the MyQ app and its Apple Homekit integration to open and close my garage doors since I’ve moved into my house, so I am familiar with the company. This camera is designed to be used in or adjacent to your garage and work in conjunction with your garage door opener as the app will link the events of the camera to your garage door opening or closing. However, you can use it anywhere and having a smart garage door opener is not a requirement, as it will detect motion and start recording. It has excellent 1080p picture quality. With enough light you’ll get color images, but the low-light video is also decent, albeit in black and white. My favorite feature is that while it does come with a mounting screw the base is magnetic which is perfect for garages as you can typically find something to attach it to (such as the garage door opener itself) and skip the drilling. The audio quality is good, and it supports two-way audio from the app. If there’s a video you want to save you can easily download it to your phone. The motion sensing has done a good job of recording everything that has happened in my garage since I installed the camera. The sensitivity can be adjusted within the app. You can also set up notifications that can be enabled by day and time if needed. The only downside is you need to subscribe to be able to access the video history, otherwise all you can do is a live view through the app. A yearly subscription costs about half as much as the camera itself or you can subscribe to a yearly plan for $99/yr that supports multiple cameras. Unfortunately, there is no microSD slot or other option to store videos locally. I should also note I had a few occurrences where the app would not show me my video history. I could open and close my garage as usual (have never had a problem with that) but it was like the app’s connection to the cloud service that hosts the video was down. Restarting the app did not help, just had to wait for the service to be available again. This happened more than once in the week that I have been using the camera. Pros: - Good 1080p PQ - Records Audio, Supports Two-way - Magnetic Base - Motion Sensing Cons: - Must Pay to View Saved Video - App/Cloud Reliability Overall – I like that everything in the garage is in the same app and ecosystem although I do wish it had the option to record to a local device and avoid the subscription fee or cloud issues.

Views the Garage, Solid camera option
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall... very simple to setup, get going, and so far... good results. So this particular camera, I am using for the INSIDE of my garage, just to capture any activity that comes and goes through the garage door and area. Very light weight, I like simple installation option of using the 3M grip... works well so far. Mounting it to my garage opener, I didn't like because of the vibration in the initial imaging when recording, so I moved it a bit. that is not so much because of the camera, but maybe a software enhancement can fix that . I am still a bit perplexed on why it is a micro-usb port, and not-usbC. They do give you the adapter with along power cord, but I can tell already this isn't going to be good for some installations, where they want the camera further... and usbC is just becoming much more common. EXTREMELY easy to setup.. I had it up and running in my existing MyQ app in less then 2 minutes. (but then it had to do a several minute firmware update). You do need a subscription though to get the most out of the camera, but you get 30 days free of the medium play to try things out

Great camera for garage!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This ingenious device has proven to be a top-notch solution for upgrading my garage door with smart capabilities. The myQ Chamberlain Smart Garage Control has an unintrusive installation process. Unlike other smart garage controls that require complex interfaces between the opener and the opener button, this device keeps it simple. All it needs is power and placement at a specific height, within eyesight of the sensor on the garage door itself. This intuitive design essentially acts as a second opener, making installation a breeze. I was pleasantly surprised at how quick and straightforward the setup was through the myQ app. In less than half an hour, I had the smart garage control up and running, seamlessly integrating with my garage door opener. The user-friendly interface and step-by-step guidance made the process stress-free and enjoyable. The myQ Chamberlain Smart Garage Control offers an excellent value proposition. Its competitive price tag makes it one of the most affordable smart garage devices on the market. If you have an older but still functional garage door opener and don't want to replace it entirely to make it smart, this device is the perfect solution. I also love the seamless integration with Alexa and Ring. Monitoring the garage door through other devices and receiving push notifications on Alexa-enabled devices adds an extra layer of convenience and security. It's fantastic to have this level of control and access right at my fingertips. I was so impressed with the myQ Chamberlain Smart Garage Control that I recommended it to my parents, who have a two-car garage with multiple doors (if you have more than one door, make sure to buy a second sensor). Through the myQ app, sharing access with others on a permanent or temporary basis is easy. I can now effortlessly open my parents' garage door from my phone whenever needed. Amazing product!

Great quality video - day or night
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We recently moved into a new home with a three car garage. We have one large garage door and a single car garage door. We have a lot of expensive tools in our garage so we wanted an extra level of security by adding a video camera in our garage. I had the last generation Chamberlain video camera in our previous home and was impressed with the quality of the video. I find the quality of this next generation camera to be even better. What is really impressive is how well the night vision capability is for this camera. With no light in the garage, you can still see things clearly on your phone or laptop by way of the dynamic range of this camera. The camera has video and two-way audio capability. I don't see us using this feature but it is there if needed for people who want it. You can turn this feature off if you don't want it. The app is good as it is pretty intuitive for most of the features you need to access. It might take a few days to master all of the capabilities that you will use. Like other types of video-enabled devices such as doorbells, there is some latency when it comes to video an audio for this device (maybe 2-3 seconds). Hopefully that will be fixed in the future. This is a great camera that provides quality video during the day or night.

Most features locked behind high subscription
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pro: -Easy installation Con: -High subscription price for single device -Features limited without subscription The camera was easy to set up and paired in the MyQ app. The camera has a magnet at the base and also comes with a magnetic pad to attach to your garage door opener. The camera doesn’t have to be placed in the garage and would work like any other wireless camera. The power cable could be longer. The camera has good motion and person detection, but these features are locked behind the subscription. The alerts are a bit delayed, up to a minute at times. It can be linked to your garage door opener, and within the MyQ app, you are able to see the live view and operate your garage door at the same time. Both daytime and night vision images look good. It does have a mic for 2 way communication, but the volume is a little low. Without the subscription plan, the camera is basically only good for live viewing. There’s no video storage, motion detection, nor person detection. There are two subscription plans, a single device plan for $4 a month ($40 a year) and a multi device plan for $10 a month ($100 a year). The single device plan, for what it offers compared to other camera subscriptions, is higher than it should be. The single device plan only saves video for 7 days, and other cameras have at least motion activation as a free feature. If this is the only device being used, then it’s better to look for another camera. The multiple device plan fares better, allowing video to be saved for 30 days. If you just need a camera and not pay a monthly fee for the features, or not needing it to be tied to the MyQ system, then there are better choices. It’s not a bad camera, but there’s nothing unique here. The image is good, the night vision is clear, and the mic is what you’d expect. Most of the features are locked behind the subscription, which doesn’t offer the best value unless you have the multi device plan.

Great addition to my Chamberlain system
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a Chamberlain garage door opener, Smart Hub, and Video Key Pad which work together perfectly through the MyQ app. I figured adding this inexpensive Smart Garage Camera would be a great addition to the system for additional security. Setup of the Smart Garage Camera was flawless. Easy to add the camera through the MyQ app, a quick firmware update and it was ready to go. The video quality is very impressive. When mounting the camera keep in mind that it does need to be plugged into an electrical receptacle. If your garage has limited receptacles like mine does then that might be a bit of a challenge for you. The cord on the camera is about 6 feet long so I needed an extension cord to mount the camera where I wanted it. But once I got it setup its a great little camera for seeing what's going on inside of my garage. The MyQ app provides plenty of options to customize video capture and notifications to my phone. The low monthly subscription fee makes it a no-brainer for me. Overall, its a very effective camera and a great addition for the security for my garage.
