Customers consistently note the excellent camera quality, ease of use, and straightforward installation of the myQ Smart Garage Security Camera. Many appreciate the convenient features like motion detection, night vision, and two-way communication. However, a significant drawback mentioned is the lack of local storage options, requiring a paid cloud storage subscription for video recording. The strong magnet mounting system is also frequently praised.

It is a compact 1080p FHD camera with a good 130 wide angle field of vision. It has a magnetic base built-in so you can easily attach it to your garage door opener metal casing but it also comes with an adhesive mounting plate for other non-metal surfaces. Before you physically mount the camera, spend a few minutes setting it up on your Wi-Fi network. I already had the myQ App, so it was just a matter of adding another device - Video Solution - Smart Garage Camera. A firmware update was also available and only took a couple of minutes to install. Positioning the camera is easy, while watching it in the myQ App. Motion detection and phone notifications are quick but it only records up to 20 sec clips. It takes longer for most garage doors to open and cars/people to make their moves, so offering longer clips should be included, especially that this camera is always plugged in to power. The other drawback for me is the lack of local storage options such as a micro-SD card, so if you want to store any videos you will have to pay for the cloud subscription. I have a similar looking and functioning HD garage camera from another vendor that has a micro-SD card slot and also costs less, so there are more affordable non-cloud options available. Overall, this is a decent setup that makes sense especially if you have other myQ devices like I do.

I Love This Camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Chamberlain myQ Smart Garage Security Camera is an awesome little device. Earlier this year, I had to replace the drive unit for my 2-car garage door. We went with a Chamberlain with built in myQ camera. But we had not replaced the drive unit for the single car garage on the other side. Enter this little guy. As with other myQ products, it just works. Installation is incrediby simple. Pair it with the myQ app, connect it to your WifFi (via the app), and then determine where and how to mount it in your garage. It will need to be in reach of a power outlet. My garage drive housing is metal, so I didn't need the included adhesive pad since the mounting base for the camera has a very strong magnet. I cleaned the bottom of my garage door drive and simply stuck the bottom of the camera to it with the built-in magnet. I then plugged it in and tied off the cord. While looking at the image in the app, I then adjusted the angle for the camera. Note, it adjusts vertically and horizontally. Image quality is quite good both in regular light and night time. I can monitor the garage door from anywhere via the app. And with another myQ accessory, I can open or close the garage door from anywhere. In short, this is a super easy-to-use garage camera with super simple installation and solid image quality. Setup includes 30 days free of myQ's cloud subscription service, but you don't need to use the cloud service to take advantage of the basic camera functions.

Added security for your garage
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This security camera gives me peace of mind in my garage. Chamberlain has a very good ecosystem when it comes to wireless capabilities and integration with myQ is seamless. Smart homes have become increasingly popular. I have lost track of how many times I think that I hear noises in my garage and this give me a nice view of the door area of the garage. With two garage doors, I have two of these cameras so that I can see both sides of my garage. Setup is very easy with the myQ application for my smart phone. Adding a device is straight forward and it works very well. The clarity is very good and I can watch events in real time through the application. There is also a subscription available to record events. Chamberlain gives two options for mounting the camera. My garage door opener has a metal bottom, so the magnet on the bottom of the camera works extremely well to mount the camera on the opener. There is also an adhesive pad included to stick the camera on the opener. This camera adds capabilities of the most recent devices without having to replace your existing equipment. Overall, it works very well.

Garage door security camera with subscription
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The MyQ camera is a nice addition to a MyQ garage door. If you are looking to add a camera to your garage, it is pretty easy to add it to a MyQ garage door opener. To add the MyQ camera it has a magnet on the bottom of the camera so all you need to do is to just stick it to the garage door cover. The cover is metal so it can be easily attached to the cover. There is a setting to change the video feed as it will show as upside down if you hang it upside down on the garage door opener cover. Another thing that is very nice is that mounting it on the bottom of the opener, I was able to run the power cord to the outlet above the opener. One thing that bothered me was that even set to the lowest motion sensitivity it was going off quite frequently at night. I have windows in my garage door and when the camera detected lights, it would set off the motion detection. I finally figured out that I needed to aim it below the windows so the lights did not trigger motion. The camera is set up and controlled from the MyQ app. It is nice that you can set it up using the app. Setup is actually pretty easy. There are a few settings that you can change from Night Vision, Camera rotation, Motion Detection, Notifications and Alerts, etc… One thing that I do not like is that when the garage door is open and it detects movement, it will continue to alert you over and over again. If you are outside or working and the camera picks you up, it will keep alerting you. It can get very annoying. There does not seem to be a way to pause the notifications. Like many other indoor/outdoor security cameras, you will need to pay for a subscription. I am not fond of all the additional costs to save video clips. In general, I do like the camera, but I hope they can make some changes to the software so alerts can be paused.

Eyes and ears in the garage
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have found more uses for this camera than just checking to see if the lights were left on in the garage. Have you every wondered where a delivery driver put that package in your garage? Finding delivered packages sometimes felt like I was playing a real life game of where's Waldo. A quick look at the camera and I can see they set the very small package on the shelf on the right rather than on top of the lawnmower on the left. I was even able to locate a cat that had snuck out into the garage. On top of keeping track of deliveries and the occasional cat, it's also great for keeping an eye on kids playing in the driveway. As for the features of this camera, not only do you have video but also two way audio. Video quality is excellent at 1080P so you have a very clear picture. Audio is amazingly good in such a small device. Depending on your opener, you have the ability to link your camera with your opener so when it's triggered you get the video feed simultaneously. Lastly, setup was simple using the MyQ app. Adding video to your garage couldn't be any simpler.

A great addition to your garage security
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great small camera that connects to your existing garage door opener or you can place the camera anywhere that you want to. This is a subscription based camera, so be sure to remember that when you purchase it. The setup was very easy through the MyQ app, the app recognized and added the camera with no problems and I was able to start viewing my garage door quickly. I already have Chamberlain garage door openers, so the integration with the camera was quick and easy. The camera is only accessible through the app and there is no web access with this camera. There is two way audio with the camera if you have the need to talk to someone. The alerts that the app sends you was very quick. The camera has a good picture. Also, this camera is totally electric, meaning that it is not battery powered, so you'll need a close outlet or an extension cord to use the camera. That was not an issue for me as I had an outlet right where I mounted this camera. This camera is a great addition for garage door monitoring.

Skip This Camera: Go For A Better Camera System.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The biggest issue here is that non-technical users will need to try 4-5 times to try to get this device to connect to their WiFi network and there aren't clear instructions in the app as to what is happening or why. I had to restart the process several times. Once it finally decided to connect (after several attempts with the correct password and my router confirming the device was connected despite the app and the device saying it could not connect), there was a firmware update required. The online help documents are not helpful and not particularly easy to search -- although multiple devices seem to have the same kind of signaling when there's an error, which is useful... but having helped most of my non-techy friends through their troubleshooting, if the picture on the manual page doesn't match the device they're holding in their hand, they're going to assume it's not right. Combine that with the unhelpful advice to "restart your router" as step #2 and step #3 is make sure you're close enough to your router and that it's broadcasting a 2.4ghz signal. Oh man. When I have Nest cameras that are able to connect just fine even further out, this is not the solution. The whole setup process was super frustrating. If you contact their chat support, they direct you to call the 1-800 number. My fellow "voluntary" family tech support folks, prepare to get a lot of calls about these cameras. Better yet, just guide your family gently in a different direction. Immediately after you set up the camera, but before you can see the output of the camera, and before they tell you about the 30-day free trial, myQ's app tries to lock you into a year-long paid subscription to their video services... just yikes. In terms of video quality, it's about on par with the average low-bandwidth security camera. The live feed can be linked to your garage door opening or closing, or motion triggers. There's also a night vision element which is fine, except that if the camera is sitting near or on anything reflective, it only captures the closest, brightest reflection of the shelf. Since many garages only have a limited selection of outlets and the power cable is both required and limited to about 3', you won't have a ton of options beyond mounting the camera to a wall, far, far away from anything shiny or reflective. The notification clip length is SHORT! That is: the majority of what you see and hear is the garage door opening, but the period where someone would be breaking into your car... not so much. It also did not capture the subsequent car pulling in, the motion of the person getting in or out of the car, or entering the house... it only incidentally captured some of this because the garage door closed (it did not capture the entire length of the garage door closing). An always on plug-in camera, or even a better, more established battery-operated camera would be a better bet... the way this thing operates, it's as if it anticipates being a battery camera - the connectivity to it is pretty spotty, especially immediately after it records a clip. myQ does some fantastic things with wifi enabled garage door openers and the experience there and safety considerations and alerts (including the app) is great... but as they shift into things that aren't their wheelhouse, I just can't recommend this. It's a step too far into a market they aren't ready to engage in yet. Give it a few more iterations or - better yet - maybe myQ could partner with Yale or Nest or a more established camera/monitoring company to build a better experience.

Basic camera, slow, unreliable notifications
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TL;DR: I've been using the MyQ Smart Garage Security Camera for about two weeks together with the MyQ Smart Video Keypad and a Chaimberlain Garage Door and MyQ Smart Garage Door opener system. In that time, I've received app notifications from the keypad and the opener itself on my phone, but I've never received the video notification or image from the camera. The camera also has a low resolution and lacks any night vision or infrared LEDs to allow operation in the dark. The myQ smart garage security camera is designed to be an easy way to integrate a video feed of your garage whenever there's motion or your garage door is operated. It was very easy to install and setup, and includes mounting hardware for a mounting plate, or you can directly attach the camera's magenetic base to the underside of your garage door opener, if you have an extra power outlet above the opener. The camera has basic tilt functionality in the mounting bracket, and the magnetic base enables you to manually swivel the camera left and right. There is no optical zoom or focus on the camera itself, and only a limited digital zoom available in the app. The camera also has a microphone and speaker to allow two-way audio communication. It has a micro-USB power connector on the underside of the camera (not on the base) and the included 6-ft Micro-USB DC power adapter (with an attached cable) has a 1.0A output rating. The myQ app allows you to invert the image if you mount the camera upside down. The myQ app has notification settings that are supposed to notify you whenever your garage door is activated and send live images. Video storage and motion/person detection is also available via a separate myQ video subscription plan (a free 30-day trial period is included with the camera). Without the subscription plan, the camera only allows live feed viewing and limited notification options. Unfortunately, in all the times that I opened and closed my garage with the camera installed, the video notifications from the camera consistently arrived 1-2 minutes after the actual event and the video resolution and low-light support is very poor. I realize that some of this could be attributed to my internet speed, however I receive notifications from the myQ opener and the video keypad of garage activity within 30 seconds and both are on the same network as the video camera. I really wanted to like this camera, unfortunately, the lack of timely notifications and low light support, combined with limited free video functionality make this a disappointing video solution for integrating with the myQ system.

myQ does it again!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.MyQ is one of my favorite smart home features. The quality of this camera is amazing. The nice thing about this camera is that it can link to your Chamberlain/MyQ garage door opener. It will notify you when the door is activated. I love being able to see the entire interior of my garage at anytime and the video recordings for when people open my garage.

Easy install and great camera!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.LOVE this camera! The magnetic base is super strong and makes it so easy to mount in my home. I was able to stick this on my fridge so now I have a full view of my house from back door to front door. The live stream is super easy to use on the myQ app and I was able to add it to my subscription with my garage door opener without any issues.
