    Poor Signal and Battery Life

IF it works it's fine. My experience has been poor enough that I'm ready to loose the money spent on this (and a network extender & extra battery) and return to the silicone keypad that this unit replaced. Changing the battery, which dies every week is a hassle because of a small screw that secures it. The wireless signal always shows as middle to low although the network extenders is on the opposite side of the interior wall. No other wireless device I own, including thermostat, smoke detectors, security camera, etc performs as poorly as this thing does. Waste of money. Gets two stars only because the day/night video resolution is nice

Hello, and thank you for your honest review. We would like to apologize for any setbacks the battery caused you, but we can always recommend setting your Motion Sensitivity Meter to either the low, or lowest setting. This will ensure your keypad is only capturing events immediate to your garage door proximity.
Wi-Fi signal strength also plays a significant factor in the battery life performance of your device.
If your battery is still being quickly depleted feel free to contact our team at [email protected] Chamberlain-DIY

Have been using this for about a year now, I bought a second when they were on sale to have another battery and that works really awesome. Easy entry to my garage with a code and you get to see who is "calling" when they are trying to get in. Great upgrade to the typical number pad that most garages have. Going to buy another for my other garage door!

I love this garage door opener accessory. Everything works great. I wish I was able to angle the camera a little more away from the door without having to modify the bracket that holds it to the garage door frame. I'm not really fond of the subscription I will need to pay for on a monthly basis but I will consider doing so.

My old garage door keypad had been broke for a few years. We replaced our old owner with a new Chamberlain opener this past summer but didn't come with a keypad. I saw a good deal on this keypad and thought I would try it. So far so good! I like the option to open it if I'm out front and decide to sweep/clean up the front porch. I can assign friends/family their own codes so they have access if I'm not home. So far the battery has lasted four weeks and I have it at the minimum sensitivity. I plan to buy a second battery eventually so I don't have down time. I like that I can talk to the person opening the garage from the camera. I just wanted a keypad but got so much more!

This is probably the first of its kind. A garage keypad with added functionality, better build quality than the standard option, and the ability to call the owner for access. It should be everything I was looking for, but sadly, it can’t meet my needs. For most, it should accomplish its goals well, just not for those with more than one garage door. We have a house with two garage doors and for some odd reason, this keypad cannot control more than a single garage opener. It boggled my mind, so I contacted support. But as of this review, it was confirmed that it simply cannot handle them both. For about 30 years, there’s been very few options for garage keypads, but it mostly comes down to a single offering: a cheap membrane keypad with a flip up weather cover. This is what we had prior to installing this video keypad. The prior cheap model can handle our situation just fine, with separate pins we can punch in to access each door and a single button press to close all open doors with a single button press. It’s not just convenient, it’s necessary. With this keypad, I have a single door controlled, if the second is open, pressing the home button can only close the one - I have to go inside to the wall mounted button first to close that garage door and then exit. Our common use case of accessing and closing these doors from the exterior is just not supported. But that dealbreaker aside, let’s look at what it achieves well for those with a single garage door: Video: Like most exterior cameras, Chamberlain offers a subscription to access a video history of video recordings based on events (motion or people sightings) - you can reduce the sensitivity of the sensing to help extend battery life and a few other settings, but I see it largely serving it’s main use cases. From seeing Amazon deliveries be made into your garage, to kids or guests gaining access, it serves its purpose. Clarity is decent and the call function actually works. It’s a neat offering, allowing a visitor to press the phone button to trigger a call to the owner (via the app) to gain access, without having a pin on hand. If in when you need it, but not likely one you’d use often. Beyond kids arriving home or getting locked out, you could imagine needing to have a neighbor gain temporary access, without previously having given them a pin or key. Keypad: Video aside, the keypad and its app also offers the ability to give guests temporary access, letting neighbors in to check in on your home or pets for a set window of time. Prior offerings just couldn’t do these smart-home things. Additionally, the buttons are easier to read, backlit at night, and just all around better than the cheaper, standard options. Battery: Plenty of users have mentioned that battery life can be shorter than expected, but it all depends on how often the camera and sensors pick up on motion or comings/goings of cars from the garage. We have very little activity around the garage on most days, so about 5 days since I charged it, we have about 98% charge left. It should last for at least a 1.5 months or more before needing a charge in our case, but it can apparently be much shorter if in constant use. Changing the battery is simple, but it unfortunately requires a small set-screw to be in place at the bottom to keep it from falling off of its mount. You’ll have to unscrew this every time it comes time to charge. The battery also takes upwards of 7-10 hours to charge, so having a second charged battery on hand may be the best way to handle the charging cycle. — All told, this video keypad is a novel concept with good execution, but it simply doesn’t fulfill my requirements. It’s well made, and we hope that a future update could somehow allow our two garage doors to be accessed by this keypad, but for now it will have to come off and be replaced with the basic alternative. Good Stuff: - Finally an updated keypad (of any kind) - Nicely made, clean design - Good readability and buttons - Call feature works - Guest pins can be created for set to custom periods of time - Easy to install Less than good stuff: - Can only control a single door, even if you have several garage openers connected to myQ. - The above makes it unworkable for us (we have two garage doors) - had to revert to prior keypad. - Somewhat bulky in design, likely due to barrel-style internal batteries. - App has a lot of upsells and ads, at least prior to agreeing to a video recording plan.

Plenty smart but with some limitations/drawbacks

I’ve used the myQ smart garage door opener system for a few years now–and I love it. It’s so nice to have assurance that the garage door is closed when I drive off (I can’t tell you how much gas I used to burn turning the car around a block or two away just to make sure the door had closed after I left—and yes, one time it had indeed not fully closed!), and to be able to remotely open it well before pulling into the driveway from the app is a big time saver when I’ve got lots of heavy items to drag into the garage. At the same time, we’ve slowly been adding a few security cameras and smart locks/doorbells to our house, so when this video keypad came along, it seemed like a no-brainer to add a little more functionality and sophistication to our existing garage door automation apps and devices. Fortunately, I was right...the myQ smart video keypad delivers exactly what it claims to, and a little more, just don’t expect state-of-the-art security features to come along for the ride. If you’re at all comfortable using an app on your phone and have the basic handyman-skills necessary to put two screws into a wall, you’ll have no problem getting this keypad up and running. In fact, the biggest time sink here isn’t setting up the keypad on your home network, registering it in the myQ companion app, getting it programmed to work with your garage door opener, or mounted in the ideal location–it’s simply waiting for the battery pack to charge for the first time. The manual says it should take about 8-10 hours to fully charge–so keep that in mind if you decide to wait to recharge your keypad’s battery until just a few hours before some big shindig that is going to require a lot of garage door access. Sadly, the battery pack must be completely removed from the keypad assembly to be charged (more on that later), but the pack includes a helpful LED indicator to indicate charge status, and there is a micro-USB cable included in the box; however, no charger is provided. Depending on how busy the area in front of your garage is (and therefore how many video events are triggered or how many times the keypad is used), the battery will supposedly last anywhere between 1-3 months before needing to be charged again. You will need the myQ app to get the keypad set up and running, but the new hardware wizard makes it stupid-easy to get the keypad ready for action offering big colorful pictures and on-screen animations to show you exactly where, when, and what to do next. Assuming you’ve got the battery fully charged and installed (that’s also demonstrated in the app), it shouldn’t take you more than 10 minutes or so to get the keypad operational–the graphical step-by-step guide even walks you through programming the keypad to your specific brand of garage door opener (no complicated code look-ups like when you have to program a universal remote). Once that’s done, mount the angled frame to a convenient wall and secure the keypad to the frame with the included security screw. Now your smart garage and smartphone are even smarter! Using the app, you can adjust the camera’s motion sensitivity, set up push/email notifications and video recordings, adjust night vision settings, activate/disable the microphone, and adjust the talk-back volume. You can issue multiple users different garage door PINs, set up temporary guest PINs, and even set up a one-time or recurring schedule to limit the hours/days when the PINs will work. Garage door access and video surveillance/movement events show up on your phone (I even got alerts on my Apple Watch); you can then either view the live video feed (with audio), take a snapshot during the feed, or review the recording after the fact (more on that later, too). You can even engage in a 2-way conversation from your app, welcoming someone home or giving them instructions while you open the door for them. Does someone need garage access who doesn’t have a PIN–they can use the intercom button to call you in real time through the app and you can open the garage door for them. Image quality is very clear and colorful (though certainly not ultra high-def) with a wide fish-eye field of view. All videos are time stamped though that is really only useful if you save the videos for review later. Night vision works well enough to make out faces and the keypad is brightly illuminated with a key press at night. Thankfully, you do not need to enter your PIN code to close the garage door–a quick press of the garage door icon button at the lower right of the keypad will close the door automatically with no other actions required. All told, the myQ Smart Video Keypad is just that–a smart keypad garage door opener with a few nifty video capabilities and multiple user/guest access management to help greatly extend the functionality of an existing garage door opener system. For what it does, it meets our needs very well, and if your smart-home automation needs are equally as modest, this video keypad provides a lot of capability for its quite reasonable asking price. However, there are a few sticking points you definitely should be aware of heading in, not the least of which is the fact that each keypad is only capable of controlling one garage door opener. That isn’t a problem for our home, but if you have more than one opener installed at your house, you’ll need a separate keypad for each one. As of this review, there also seems to be no smart assistant integration at all, which means that Alexa or Google Assistant won’t notify you of any movement or person detection, make an announcement for intercom requests, or give you an alert that there has been some door opener activity. This makes you completely reliant on having your phone ready at hand for any real-time security incidents or 2-way audio/video functionality that may be required/desired. Battery charging also looks like it is going to be a bit of an ongoing pain. In order to access and charge the battery, you first have to remove the bottom security screw, remove the keypad from the wall mount, remove the keypad unit’s back cover, then remove the battery pack from the keypad and bring it to your charger. Honestly, I can easily forgive having to remove the keypad from the exterior mount–I have to do the same thing for one of our video doorbells, but an external USB port at the back of the keypad would have been a welcome addition so that you at least didn’t have to completely disassemble the entire unit every time just to charge the battery. Better still, a waterproof USB port cover at the bottom of the keypad would allow you to bring out a small portable battery pack and charge the entire assembly while it was still mounted to the wall. The lack of a more accommodating and user-friendly charging system will probably grow a bit tiresome, especially if the battery ends up needing frequent recharging. Finally, unless you are willing to shell out for ongoing subscription fees, you should not think of this unit as a video security system in the traditional sense. Specifically, there is no local video storage or microSD slot on the keypad itself, and you cannot download/save a video stream to your phone once the 30-day trial video storage offer expires. In fact, based on the myQ subscription page, it does not appear that the “Person Detection'' notifications will even work unless you have an active myQ video subscription plan. If any of that is important to you, you will have to figure in the cost of the 7-day video storage plan ($3.99/month or $39.99/year for one camera) or the 30-day video storage plan ($9.99/month or $99.99/year for multiple cameras) as well.

Tl;dr This is a useful keypad with decent battery life that allows for temporary codes and a wide camera view. It’s marred by poor motion sensing and no solar charging options. Full Review: MyQ accessories help to be in control of your garage. It also requires a MyQ opener or adapter to operate. The keyboard / camera is accessed from the same app where the door is controlled from. It’s nice to have only one app to think about when dealing with the garage. It’s important to note that the keyboard DOES NOT open/close the door via the radio. It requires internet access in the location it’s mounted. I had separately purchased a MyQ garage door controller. The installation and set up for this keyboard / camera was ridiculously easy. Since I already had the app, I had to add a device, enter my wifi info, and it connected right away! I did a quick firmware update and was on my way. As a keypad, it can be programmed with one permanent PIN and several guest PINs. The guest PINs can be set for a specific time frame (i.e. when you’re on vacation for a week) or on a recurring basis (i.e. Tuesday is for the cleaners). The camera on board is also adaptable. It gives a decent image during the day and automatically switches to night mode. The camera will automatically record when a visitor hits the ‘Call’ button on the keypad. It will also record for some movement, but not reliably. Cameras I have from Euffy and Arlo work much more reliably. Mounting was fairly straight forward. It comes with a braket which faces the keyboard/camera slightly away (or towards) the garage. It’s designed to mount on either side of the garage, depending on what’s most convenient. There’s a rechargeable battery which needs up to 10 hours to charge before it’s mounted. That slowed down the installation a little, but was easy to deal with. The battery should last a while. The charge has dropped only 4% in the 3 days since it was installed. There are no options to charge the battery while the keypad is installed. I’ll have to take the keypad off, take the battery out, then charge it inside for a few hours to get it back to regular operation. It uses a USB-C connector for the charge. Camera makers have different approaches to the free vs paid level of services. Unlike Wyse and Euffy, there is no SD card slot. This means no local recording. While you can watch a live stream from the camera, all recording options require a subscription. The subscription rate is not high (1.99 / month / camera), but it adds up over time. This is especially true if you have more than one camera.

Smart Garage Door Keypad with a Camera!

Installation and setup were a breeze. It paired with the phone's Bluetooth and seamlessly detected the local Wi-Fi for connectivity via the myQ app. The keypad mount facilitated setting the camera in the desired direction. This was an excellent match for my LiftMaster garage door, as I had never installed a keypad for it before. The device features a rechargeable battery and the option to store videos with a subscription plan if needed. It's well-built, featuring a ruggedized keypad designed to endure both hot and cold conditions. Features include a unique pin code for each family member, the ability to create temporary codes for service providers with specific time access or access restrictions to the garage, real-time notifications on the phone via the myQ app, two-way audio, real-time video streaming, high resolution providing a good view of the garage area, and excellent night vision. With this visual confirmation, I feel more confident about who is entering and leaving my place, providing a sense of security. However, I expected the battery to last 3-4 months after a full charge, but it depleted by 20% in just a week with the garage door being accessed 5-6 times a day. This necessitates frequent charging, and accessing the battery requires unscrewing (a tiny security screw at the bottom of the keypad) which can be inconvenient. The battery management system needs improvement, possibly by exploring options to limit recordings and alerts to extend battery life. Looking for potential software updates to extend battery life on the unit. Charging the unit takes about 8-10 hours, will have to get a backup battery to keep the unit running without interruptions. Additionally, the app's alert delivery is a little slow, took about a minute or two to receive the notifications to my phone. In summary, it's a great unit for someone without a garage keypad, and the built-in security camera is an excellent additional feature. However, the battery drains quickly, and I'm hoping for a software update to improve the battery management system on this unit. Additional features in the app could settings to reduce the number of alerts, especially for high traffic areas. There were some issues with the WiFi signal detection being weak on this device, although it didn't affect the keypad's performance despite the warning.

Hi TechGeek, thank you for your feedback on the myQVideo Keypad. There are several ways to improve your Wi-Fi connection for your device, including moving your router closer to your device or purchasing a Wi-Fi extender. The myQ Video Keypad must be within 50 feet of your Wi-Fi router and is compatible to operate with Wi-Fi networks on 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz frequencies. If you're still having issues, please get in touch with us at support.chamberlaingroup.com

In regard to the battery, expected battery life depends on several factors including household activity, Wi-Fi signal strength, ambient temperature, and selected motion sensitivity settings. An example based on activity can be found below:

Quiet Household (fewer than 10 events per day): 3 months of battery life
Typical Household (10-30 events per day): 2 months of battery life
Busy Household (over 30 events per day): 1 month of battery life

The myQ Video Keypad does come with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery! This is a custom battery pack, but additional batteries are available for purchase if you want to ensure your device never encounters down-time. Innovative Garage Keypad, But Big Drawbacks

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I recently upgraded my 30-year-old garage door opener to a fancy new Chamberlain myQ model with smart features. My old, traditional keypad outside the garage continued to work, so I didn't even think about upgrading or replacing it. That was until I saw this video keypad available. Think of it as the video doorbell of garage keypads. It's great, but it required a bit more attention and maintenance than a wired video doorbell. === PROS === - Installation is very easy. You'll first want to charge the battery and then pair the new keypad to your garage door opener by following the steps in the myQ app. Once you've done that, you can mount the keypad. Everything is wireless, so you don't need to worry about running electricity. If you have an existing keypad, just take that one off and install this video keypad in the same spot. You might need to drill two small new holes to line up with the video keypad. The included mounting bracket is slightly angled (about 20 degrees) to point the camera out towards your driveway. - Unlike a traditional garage keypad, this one is easily customizable via the myQ app. You will no longer need to remember or look up some obscure programming code or procedure if you wish to change your garage code. The myQ app allows you to create unique codes for everyone in your family and even temporary codes for guests. - There is a "one touch close" button in the bottom right corner of the keypad so you can instantly close the garage door without needing to type in your full code. - Video quality is very good. Without a subscription, you can watch a live video feed of the camera and have 2-way audio calls. If you pay for the subscription, you get saved video history and notifications of detected people/movement. === CONS === - The documentation about this video keypad does not say much about the expected battery life. I And likely for good reason. I've been using the keypad for a week and have only checked in via live video about a dozen times for less than 30 seconds each time. The battery is already down under 70% so it will likely need to be recharged in another week or so. Worst of all, accessing the battery is a bit of a pain. You first have to remove the keypad from the bracket, remove the back cover to access the battery, charge the battery (takes 6 to 8 hours), and then replace the battery and remount they keypad. During this whole process, you're left without a functioning garage keypad. You can buy a spare rechargeable battery (which I absolutely plan to do), but a spare one really should have been included. - The battery charges via the very outdated micro USB. I just got rid of all of my old micro USB devices and cables in favor of USB-C, and now I have to charge this video keypad battery via micro USB. Frustrating. - The angled mounting bracket works for my purposes, but for others, I imagine that you won't be able to see much of your driveway. myQ sells a 100-degree swivel mount, but it's just another expense you'll have to consider if you want the best video quality. === OVERALL === If you're going for the full smart home experience, the myQ video keypad has a lot going for it. If you already have smart locks or video doorbells in your home, this feels like a natural extension of those devices. The problem is that it seems like it's going to create more inconvenience in my life than it's worth. I'm already worried about having to take out the battery on a regular basis to charge it. And to use the keypad to it's full potential, I'll need to pay for and manage yet another subscription. I hope myQ takes these items into consideration if they're working on a second generation of this keypad.

Hi ryanmcv, thank you for your feedback on the myQ Video Keypad! We apologize you encountered errors during provisioning. I will be sure to share your feedback with our product team for future enhancements.

Expected battery life depends on several factors including household activity, Wi-Fi signal strength, ambient temperature, and selected motion sensitivity settings.

I just received the Chamberlain - MyQ Smart Garage Video Keypad – Battery Operated and couldn’t wait to install it. I have a 17 year old garage door opener which I was considering replacing with a smart garage door opener, but I no longer need to do that. Instead, for under $100 and about 30min for the time it took to install, I got a much better solution that also includes a camera. The installation instructions are minimal, but step by step and easy to follow, just scan the QR code with your phone. Make sure to remove and charge the battery first. It will take at least 6 hours to fully charge - documentation says 8-10 hours. Download and install the MyQ App, and select the model of your garage opener. The keypad setup and pairing with the garage opener was simple, just add your Wifi network, setup your primary pin and test. You can setup additional/temporary pins for guests - very convenient. Make sure to update the firmware if a newer one is available. Much like most other security camera systems, it will save all activity, motion detection, keypad use, people detection, videos to myQ cloud which requires a paid subscription, first 30-days included for free. At this price point, a local SDcard option should be available. Another suboptimal design shortcoming is in order to recharge the battery you have to remove the bottom security screw, take the keypad off the wall, remove the battery and plug it in to a charger using the old-style micro-USB cable. An externally accessible charge port would have been much more convenient where you could even use a solar panel or plug in a cable without having to take the keypad off the wall and wait 8-10 hours for a full charge. All in all, this setup has great features, great 2K image quality, ease of use and App motion detection and alerting/notification features, but it misses out on more convenient charging and video storage options.

I recently added the Chamberlain MyQ Smart Garage Video Keypad to my setup, and it’s been a total game-changer. Installation was quick and simple, and it paired seamlessly with my existing MyQ garage door opener. The built-in camera provides a clear, wide-angle view of who’s coming and going, and I love that I can check the live feed and get notifications right from my phone. The ability to assign individual PIN codes for different family members or guests is incredibly convenient — everyone can access the garage securely without needing a remote. The motion detection and two-way audio work perfectly, adding an extra layer of security and peace of mind. Overall, this device is sleek, reliable, and makes managing garage access smarter and safer. Best Buy made the purchase easy, and I’d highly recommend the MyQ Smart Garage Video Keypad to anyone looking to upgrade their home security!

I’m torn on the MyQ video keypad and camera. I was really excited to get my hands on this. I have a Liftmaster three car garage system with two doors and have been really happy with the whole thing. I have been utilizing the MyQ App for almost three years and really love the app. The peace of mind in being able to know for sure my doors are closed or opened is wonderful. I also have a plethora of wifi cameras in my home including one in the garage, but I like the idea of having all my “garage specific” video from the door to the interior being in one app. It really adds the usefulness of the MYQ Ecosphere. My big frustration with the MyQ video keypad is it can ONLY CONTROL ONE DOOR!!! I mean it can have up to 16 different codes to one keypad, my spouse and I’s cars can open and close both doors… heck, my old “dumb” key pad could open and close both doors…BUT MyQ “smart” video key pad can’t??? What???? I researched it and saw a word salad response on a FAQ page but it only does one door period. What a crock. So you have to either buy a second MYQ video keypad and have two on one side or one on each side of the two doors. The bonus I guess would be that you would have two angles of video which I might have done anyway and just have two video keypads. Ultimately you can open both doors with the phone app as well but you should be able to open either door with a “smart” key pad. I just can’t figure out why it can’t do both doors with two codes on one keypad. It seems they could just fix this with a firmware update and should. If you can live with the one door one video keypad decision MyQ made, then you will most likely be pretty happy with the video keypad. The video quality is very good and the two-way audio is really cool. You might need a Wi-Fi extender in your garage for the best speeds. Installation was really easy with the app. It took a while to charge the battery and from what I researched, the battery can last from 3 months with about 10 events a day to 1 month with 30 events a day. They do sell a second battery which I will probably buy to hot swap them. If you think about it the US mail, deliveries, spouse and I, neighborhood walkers gives me about 6 events a day everyday… that’s not to mention house cleaners and trash trucks ect. I’m estimating I will be in the 1 month of charge group. I would really like to have the battery last at least 6 months with normal events like I noted. For context, My ‘dumb” garage door keypad (which again could do both doors with no trouble but no video) battery has lasted almost 3 years and I still have not changed the battery once! Overall, the MyQ video keypad feels very 1st gen but has a ton of potential. This is one of the first products where I loved their app more than the hardware or at least to this point. If/when MYQ video keypad gets multiple door control from a single keypad and a longer battery life then I would say this is a HOME RUN….RIGHT NOW…A solid BASE hit.

Great upgrade - but features stuck behind paywall

I, like most people with a garage, use it as primary access to my house. Whether I’m driving into the garage or on foot, our family constantly goes through it. We had a normal keypad which worked fine, but the MyQ video keypad can notify you whenever someone opens your garage and send you a video of who opened it (or for me, a notification with a screenshot). The biggest drawback is that cloud storage is put behind a paywall. Like the MyQ camera, I wish there was some free option for a shorter amount of cloud video storage. IN THE BOX AND SETUP In the box you’ll find the keypad, a mount, some screws, a micro-USB charging cable. The battery itself is shipped inside the keypad itself. Installation and setup was an absolute breeze. First, however, you have to fully charge the battery. On the battery itself are green and red lights. Obviously red means it’s still charging, green means it’s fully charged. Once charged, you slide the battery in the back of the keypad. It then begins the pairing process. You open up the MyQ app, hit the + button to add a device and then pick the type (video devices) and then it appeared as found on my phone almost immediately. I then paired it, and downloaded a quick firmware update. I then had to pair it to my garage opener. (I’ll just say the walkthrough process through the app was extremely easy to follow). But the process was hitting the pair button on the garage door motor, then hitting the pin in the keypad. Then you hit the pin number again and hold the home button. If the door begins moving, then it’s all paired. From there, you install the mount outside the garage using screws or the included drywall anchors. If you already had a keypad installed, you could, like me, simply use the same location and means of installing the bracket. Once the bracket is installed, the keypad snaps in. Finally, you insert a tiny screw at the bottom (not unlike a Ring doorbell camera if you’re familiar with it) which prevents easy theft of the keypad. I’ll also note that the bracket is not 0 degrees, it’s at an angle. Honestly, this seems best to get better coverage from the camera (since the keypad is generally placed on the frame of the garage, not facing outwards). But there is a 0 degree flat mount you can purchase separately if it better suits your needs. EASE OF USE As a keypad, this is simple to use. You simply type in the pin number and hit the home pad. I found it to be extremely responsive with no delay. Same goes for closing. You simply hit the home button and the door closes. It also captures video anytime someone types in the pin (useful for catching the time your kids come home at night). The video quality of the camera is pretty great. It’s 1080p resolution which is more than adequate. The images are bright and clear. You can set up the video to detect motion if you’d like. For me, I turned it off within the app, but it’s nice to have. Again, this feature is stuck behind a paywall and since I don’t expect to pay for it after my trial subscription, I’m trying not to get used to having those features - and I’m assuming the more times you’re getting notifications the bigger the hit on your phone’s battery as well as your keypad’s battery. THE MYQ APP I really like the app. I have some experience with it in having a smart garage opener. I really like how the video feed and access to the settings of the keypad is integrated on the home page of the app - meaning you just open the app to see everything you need. Once the video keypad is setup, you open the app and can hit on the camera to load in the live feed. If you have a paid subscription (or are using the 30 day trial) then you can look at the video feed history, download any files, or take screenshots. It also lets you know the battery life right there on the feed which is nice. To access video files, you click on history at the bottom of the app where you’ll see all the access, motion, and activity that’s been detected. If you don’t have a subscription, the only thing you’ll be able to do is to see a live feed - it won’t record activity/motion. Caveat, as I have a trial subscription, I’m unable to verify if you’d be able to see a picture in your notifications whenever someone accesses your keypad. The bottomline is that it’s really intuitive to use and finding your way around to adjust the setting of your video keypad - or any MyQ device you own - is really simple and easy. CONCLUSION As a standalone garage keypad with a video camera, this device is terrific. The biggest drawback is the subscription fee that’s required to access all its smart features. In a world where everyone is paying for a large number of subscriptions already, it’s tough to justify another $10 a month for smart access and video recordings of access to your garage. For some it might be fully justifiably, but if you weren’t already video recording and paying for this type of service, it’s tough to justify. Although at the end of the day, I'd still recommend it even if not paying for the paywall.

Great device to add to MyQ system

The entry points (doors, garage, windows, etc.) to your house are the most important to protect your home. Specifically, the security around the garage door needs to be secure. This MyQ smart garage video keypad with a camera is essential to add to a home security system. This device functions like a traditional keypad by creating pins for every home member, with the additional feature of having a video camera. The MyQ app adds even more personalized access than traditional keypads by removing setting changes, viewing activity history, and interacting with people near the device. A great feature of this device is that you get excellent video confirmation of who opened the garage and meaningful real-time alerts for both when someone uses the keypad or the camera detects motion. The person detection works extremely well at the highest motion sensitivity level, but you may want to reduce it if you have trees or bushes nearby. The two-way audio works very well; I can talk to the person near the keypad, and they can also hear me when I select the mic. There is an option to subscribe to access recorded events for up to 30 days. The box comes with a 30-day free trial of the subscription service. The device uses a rechargeable battery, which has a decent battery life. The wide-angle view and the images are clear, and the night vision is acceptable. I tried the two-way audio with a few delivery drivers, and it worked great; they can hear me fine, and I can hear them fine as well. Installation is easy if you can drill a hole for two screws in the wall or frame around the garage door. The MyQ app guides you through the entire process of adding the keypad to your MyQ account. Note: To work properly, this device needs to be near an area where there is access to your Wi-Fi. To conclude, the MyQ app and devices are fantastic, and it is an excellent investment to protect your home.

    Excellent Smart Garage Accessory

I've been testing the Chamberlain MyQ Smart Garage Video Keypad for a week now. I'm using it with my Chamberlain smart garage door opener, and overall I think it's a great accessory. Installation took only a few minutes. Since I already had the myQ app installed on my phone, I just had to add the keypad/camera to my account. After a few clicks, it was ready to mount. The box includes an adapter plate that lets you angle the keypad/camera, but I just mounted it flush. I found that mounting it flush was best for me because I live in a cul-de-sac and didn't want to receive false alerts from my neighbors entering or exiting. The drawback to this mounting option is that I lose some view because a third of the picture is taken up by my garage door. But even with that loss, I was perfectly fine with the amount of video captured. The video quality of the camera was very good, and its ability to detect motion was excellent. My garage has a lot of traffic going through it, and it basically caught everything. The battery life also seems to be pretty good. In a week, it used 9% of its capacity. But as I said earlier, my garage has more human traffic than a normal garage might. The only drawback I found was that the battery took a very long time to charge on its first charging cycle. I left it on the charger all night and still didn't get a green light, which indicates that it was full. However, when I plugged it into the keypad, it showed a full charge. This may be a fault with the battery, and it might have charged faster than I thought. But unfortunately, I won't know until my next charge. With all that said, I still really like this camera/keypad combo, and I think it's an excellent accessory to any garage.
