Chefman Air Fryer is a convection oven

What is an “AIR FRYER?” It is a marketing term describing a popular countertop appliance category, which includes this Chefman Chef IQ 8 Quart Digital Air Fryer. And AIR FRYER does not actually “fry.”
What an air fryer does is virtually indistinguishable in function from a countertop oven that includes convection as one of its virtues.
At its heart, an air fryer is a dedicated convection oven.
With the above out of the way, my assessment of this Chefman Chef IQ 8 quart digital air fryer is that it and other air fryers are large and unnecessary countertop appliances. A $100 countertop convection/toaster oven adds the ability to toast and otherwise produces similar results with foods prepared using the “Convection” setting.
This 1700-Watt countertop air fryer has presets for “Fries, “Fish,” “Meat” and “Chicken.” Each preset auto-selects temperature and cooking time for the particular food and can be manually adjusted to increase or decrease both temperature and cooking time. Fully manual cooking is also possible.
The big handle is a smart design element for removal and insertion of the basket. This means mostly one-handed basket operation.
My evaluation began with a pair of basics. First, tater tots! I added a single layer of frozen tots to the bottom of the air fryer, pressed the dedicated “Fries” button and waited. This preset sets temperature at 400º with a cook time of 20 minutes. At the half way point, it emitted a beep and displayed “Shake” to let me know to pull out the “bucket” and give the tots a quick toss, then reinstall the tray.
The appliance pauses its cycle automatically when the tray is removed and restarts upon inserting.
The results . . . Fanfare, please . . . Great tasting tots with no added oil.
Next, another staple in some homes, frozen battered fish. Not the more common fish sticks here, but frozen and battered cod portion from Costco. You probably guessed that this would suggest the “Fish” setting. Extra points for you.
This auto program sets the temperature to 350º for 10 minutes. Again, no oil added here. After the END signal, we discovered that the fish was not fully heated. Back in the tray, I touched “Fish” again and then the middle button to manually override either time or temperature within the “Fish” preset. I left alone the temperature setting and decreased the time to five minutes.
The results . . . OK, skip the fanfare . . . Good fish, but a different result from the countertop toaster/convection oven that is our usual heating method for these fish portions. I thought they were just fine. My other testers said they preferred their way of a quick spritz of oil before baking in the countertop convection oven. One of the testers told of a preference for preparing these frozen breaded cod fillets in their wall oven, also equipped with convection technology.
And so, it continued. Frozen pot stickers (from Costco) in a single layer. This time I used the manual setting, with temperature set to 400º and the timer set to 15 minutes. About half of the frozen pot stickers were brushed with avocado oil with the other half left to cook without added oil.
The results . . . Amazingly similar to preparation in the coaster/convection oven. Those brushed with oil had a darker, more browned appearance than those without added oil.
Are you seeing a pattern here?
This Chefman Chef IQ 8 quart digital air fryer does a fine job with everything we tried. I am confident of its ability to perform well with any recipe that can be completed in an air fryer. There is not a thing wrong with what it does or how it works. I am equally confident this Chefman air fryer will do a credible job with any task for which it is compatible, including preparing fresh foods in addition to frozen foods. Its relatively small countertop footprint may be a desirable characteristic.
The design of this product is also a limitation for some users. Though its 8-quart capacity is, generally, more than adequate, there is no reasonable, designed-in way to use it with a frozen pizza. Similarly, there is but a one-level rack, so there can be but one layer of any food. If multi-layer cooking is important to you, you will need to choose a different air fryer or a countertop convection oven with a dual shelf design. If a rotisserie is important, keep looking. If anything beyond the simple basics offered in this product, keep looking.
My conclusion is that anything that can be made in a countertop convection-capable oven can also be made with similar outcome in an air fryer.
Therefore, WHY get this or any air fryer at all? That, readers, is up to you!

I previously had an air fryer before but it died unfortunately. I think these air fryers are a must have in any kitchen. So long as you get a large sized one, these air fryers can cook up lots of goodies without a lot of effort.
This unit is a generous size which is a bonus. This can handle a good amount of fries or fish sticks or whatever it is you want. The touchscreen controls is pretty nice as well. My previous unit was pretty basic with dials and buttons. This one looks a bit futuristic and the stainless steel really looks nice.
So far, cooking up a batch of tater tots came out well. Main issue with these, for me, is trying to determine cooking times for various food products. Over time, I'll figure it out but, for now, really stoked about having my curly fries whenever I want :)

I've thrown a lot of frozen food at this thing, from tuna to nuggets, and it cooks them all really well. I've tried getting fancy with some keto dishes and desserts, but not too successful (99.9% chance my baking skills).
Easy to clean, not too loud, spacious. Touchscreen works well, although all I ever do is adjust temperature and time, I haven't used any of the other settings.

Have had it for about a year or more now it’s a good large capacity air fryer you can make legit loads of fries or wings at once etc. i use it all the time it’s replaced the oven in over half the things I do just because it’s easy to use works well and easy to clean after. From raw wings and chicken breasts to frys nuggets everything cooks nicely in this unit no complaints in my use. The touch sceeen sometimes you need to press the same button 2x as it occasionally is a little annoying but overall no issues it’s not common and it’s just a double push no big deal. Got it on sale for 60$ for Black Friday

The Chefman Chef IQ 8 Quart Digital Air Fryer worked great and I'm giving 5 stars. Everything I have cooked has turned out great and healthy. The thing I love about this unit than others is the square base which allowed me to cook two things at once. I also loved the presets which worked great. Overall there is nothing bad I can say! I recommend Chefman Chef Air Fryer to all and know you will not be disappointed.

I had bought this for a Christmas gift for my wife. I then learned that an air fryer is the same as a convection oven, which we already owned.
I let my wife open the air fryer with the intention on returning it as I did not believe we needed both.
I used the air fryer the next week.
THEY were wrong. An Air Fryer is not the same thing as a convection oven.
The Air Fryer, or at least this air fryer is 50 times better than my convection oven.
I absolutely love this air fryer and use it almost every day.
Food get hot, crispy in most of the time 10 minutes. There have been a couple of things that did not work but for most items, this thing is amazing.
Also, this brand is very high quality, easy to use, elegant, and very attractive on my counterspace.
I ordered this specifically due to the size and I am very glad I did. This is 8qt one tub.
I saw several that were 8qt but 2 tubs, I really enjoy just putting in what I want without worrying about food items being stacked on top of each other and not getting cooked or crispy.
I usually just spray some cooking oil spray on the food on a plate before I put the food in the tub then cook it. Come out perfect and crispy.
WE LOVE THIS MACHINE!!!
Oh and I bought this on Sale! BONUS!!!

Great kitchen gadget. We purchased a smaller air fryer first and used it mainly for vegetable sides, but it was a bummer anytime we needed to use it for more than a small serving. This has been a lifesaver in the kitchen. It's so great for roasting vegetables as a side - we especially love making broccoli in it! The squared insert makes it nice for cooking up bacon too. It has a nice digital display and it's very easy to use. The basket separates making it simple to clean. One feature I really like is that the handle has a mechanism that slides out to allow you to separate the two inner pieces for easier cleaning, but you don't have to worry about it accidentally separating when in use. The tray is easy enough to get in and out and clicks into place nicely. We haven't had any issues with it and definitely would recommend it as a great budget buy that provides all the features of a bigger brand.

Excellent product,
Got it for 49.99 during the daily deal. Now I use it everyday, helps to reduce the use of oil by more than 95% which is so good. Quality product, good build, 8qt is more than enough for most of the family use.

Great air fryer! This is a large capacity fryer with a deep pan for large size items. I can fit a whole chicken inside. The design is very sleek and matches nicely with my other kitchen appliances. It's large but not too big and can be placed on my kitchen counter without taking up too much space. It has a nice timer and digital food picture display so it's a no brainer when trying to figure out what to cook. Super easy just press the digital display and set it and let it cook! Super fast and food comes out moist and perfect. Easy to clean and store away.

This Chefman XL Air Fryer is my favorite appliance! I use it daily for preparing quick snacks to cooking a complete dinner. It came well packed with easy to follow instructions. We've had it for 8 months now and it's performance is awesome. Easy clean up too. I've baked 9" apple and cherry pies, sandwich bread in a pullman loaf pan, meatloaf, a whole 5# roasting chicken...of course fries and onion rings...the list goes on. I haven't used my range all year! Yes,, I would recommend this air fryer! The only improvement I can think of is having a more responsive touch pad.

This was on my daughters family Christmas List so got it for them. She has raved bout this thing so much I broke down and got an air fryer for myself (much smaller unit for 2 retirees!).
She loves that she can make an entire meal in it - it is quick, cooks wonderful healthy food, easy clean up and looks great on counter. Said reheating is great too as it does not dry out food or make it chewy/tough like the microwave can.
This thing is BIG and works great for family meals. She loves it and gives it a very big two thumbs up.

Overall:
This Chefman Air Fryer works really well with various kinds of food. You don't have to wait to preheat it before cooking (big for parents that are making chicken nuggets or corn dogs). The 8 QT basket is big and worth spending extra to get it.
The Good:
Air Fryer works great. I've done everything from bacon to soft pretzels and they all turn out. The time you save not having to preheat the oven makes this worth it even if you don't take into consideration anything else you can do with this air fryer.
The Bad:
The touch screen is a bit iffy. Sometimes it takes a few clicks for the time or temp to move. This could end up being a major inconvenience as this air fryer gets older. As of right now I'd classify it as a slight annoyance.

Upgraded to this from a 4 quart manual air fryer with knobs. We've made chicken, steak, salmon, fries, brussel sprouts and popcorn shrimp in it. Food comes out crisp and moist.
Pros:
The shake warning is excellent, reminds you halfway through the cycle.
Interface is easy to use and very responsive. Electronic interface makes it very easy to use.
Presets are excellent.
Cons:
The tray on which the food sits is a very snug fit, you have to learn how to properly fit it in.
