I always favored Roku devices until this got released. Is it better? I would say that it's a matter of preference. I originally got it because Roku at the time didn't have HBOMax (that isn't an issue anymore), but I've still not disconnected this from my television. I like being able to Cast from my computer or cellphone straight to my television. I have a Vizio TV, but this way is more stable and reliable. Sound and picture are great, and it's more customizable than the Roku. Very happy with this purchase.

The new Chromecast is easy to install and setup, especially with the Google Home app. The remote works great with my TV so I don't have to keep switching remotes! Having my movies/shows centralized and sorted based on my watch history is very helpful when picking something to watch. Only problem is that there's so much to watch. Using the Chromecast with Google Assistant on my android is simple and responds quickly. Google has greatly improved on the Chromecast with Google TV, streamlining my streaming experience.

Love this new chromecast. It takes more time to set up but it comes with a remote, and I can do pretty much everything with it, so I don’t need to do anything manually or use the TV remote. It also links to other streaming services, so it’s like one ring to rule them all.

I really didn't know much about this device before I shopped the store, but the gentleman who helped us was extremely patient and knowledgeable about the various devices. This turned out to be the most economical option. The remote is extremely easy to operate and our picture quality is great.

I was very skeptical that I'd use this thing. All my tvs are Smart tvs. With all my apps that I've subscribed to. However, the ability to say "continue watching (insert show) is such a handy tool. All my apps all under one page. No more searching for a show through various apps. This is a nice way to consolidate your stuff. I also got this so I can view all my Nest cameras I've got around my property. Very happy with this and now I have them on each TV.

I bought this for my mom and I so that we could watch kdramas on Viki and it works perfectly. Previously we just used YouTube but they really only show clips of dramas. Now we can watch all the thriller and suspense kdramas like Penthouse on our TV. It was easy to set up and works with her android. The remote is especially helpful for my mom to navigate through the different shows so, I’m glad I purchased this version. The only downside is that we are watching too much TV but I don’t mind.

We've been a Chromecast family for years - we have Nests, Home Hubs, Chromecast Ultra and recently upgraded to this new Google TV equipped option. I'll echo the other reviews that mention excellent value for money - the easy to navigate user interface really makes this a more mainstream option for people who aren't quite so savvy to use their phones to cast everything and/or prefer not to get HGTV playing by barking out orders at their Google Home. But I wanted to put up this warning for people who might try and install their Google TV that there is a bug with the software that may completely prevent someone from enjoying it.
When you start initial setup for the Google TV, there's a moment toward the end where it will attempt to download apps but suddenly claim it cannot access WiFi. This will happen despite the fact that you might have even already given it access to your home WiFi network earlier in the setup process! The worst part about the screen is that it gives you no obvious way to actually manually connect to a wifi network - if you click the settings button on the remote it'll stubbornly remain in the error screen. It's incredibly frustrating. As someone else mentioned online, the way to get around this screen is to click the YouTube button on your remote to bring up that app, which will display its own error message but includes a button for you to open the connection center and input your WiFi credentials. Clearly this is a major set up bug that essentially renders the device useless. Even if there is a way to circumvent it, it is by no means intuitive, nor should the lack of ability to navigate to a settings page ever be part of the user experience. For laypeople who likely bought this because they aren't as tech savvy as the typical Chromecast user, this would probably be a totally showstopping bug that would cause them to return the device saying it was defective. And it is.
To be clear, once we got this working we have had an absolute blast using this to navigate through our shows and streaming services. It truly feels like an incredible streaming device on the order of the Apple TV 4K at 1/3 of the cost. But the out of box experience is worth talking about, if only to help other regular people actually get to enjoy what this device can offer.

As everyone that uses streaming devices knows, the absolute best device you can pick up is an Nvidia Shield TV. But if you can't afford to put down the money for the Shield -or- if you need a device to travel with, this is the next best thing. This is far better than the previous Chromecast devices, adding a whole new interface as well as a remote, solving a lot of problems in the process. Hopefully people that bought Fire Sticks will realize they're using a bottom of the barrel device and upgrade to this.

This little device is slick, easy to set up, and a great update to the original chromecast. Now, the entire google play store is at your tv's disposal, along with device mirroring. I bought it specifically when a certain High Budget Office content provider was having disputes with fire tv. Though those have been resolved, I find myself liking the usability and interface of the google device more than that of the native fire tv it's plugged in to.

I've had Roku and Firestick prior to the release of this iteration of the Chromecast device. The first generation Chromecast really wasn't great, it was more of an inconvenience to have to use your cellphone device especially if your WIFI isn't great, however, THIS Chromecast changes it all. It's so much better having a dedicated remote and the user interface is friendly and easy to navigate around, plus it has Bluetooth compatibility. This will now be my 5th purchased device.

Makes my 10-yr old Sony TV operate like a brand new one (regarding the OS and its capabilites, of course).
The interface is very fast, I like the layout of different streaming services and suggestions and the ability to be used by different users - to the level of each one getting its personal layout.
Without any programming the remote recognized the Sony TV, which comes as an added bonus.

I’ve had this for about a year and a half now and it’s become my favorite streaming device over that time. I’ve used others from roku and amazon but the chromecast is the one I always come back to. It’s got a simple user interface, android assistant and it does really well with movie and show recommendations. The remote is small but useful with a click wheel for navigation and volume buttons on the side. You can also sideload apps since this is an android interface. Overall I really like the chromecast and it’s definitely worth $50

Google has finally caught up with their competitors, but the wait was worth it. I've had all other streaming sticks, and google has by far the best overall experience.
Interface is very fluid and fast over other build into TV systems. Support for all apps you'll actually use, functionality and responsiveness are top notch.
If your in the market for an independent streaming device, i highly recommend this product, its worth the extra cost for a reason!

this is by far the BEST"GoogleTV" experience when it comes to wielding a remote and accessing Google-centric app content. A Here's A breakdown:
- Voice response is on point
- Streaming options are greatly improved over prior google viewing options
- Not limited to casting content, decent variety of apps
-Price is phenomenal ( I paid $39)
-A solid value buy for 4K content on a budget - and the picture looks great on a good tv

It's so much better with a remote control!! I never liked how Google expected you to have to use your phone to stream movies or whatever to your TV through the original Chromecast because it causes your battery on your phone to drain much faster. That's why I liked Roku better cuz they all came with remotes. This way tho, it's just like having a normal streaming device with a remote. I kind of hope someday that they redesigned the remote on future models so it's not so slippery in the hand and is a little bit bigger but at least this is a remote control so I'll take it any day over having to use the phone. It's definitely worth the few extra bucks to buy the Chromecast with remote control!! You can still use your phone to stream if you want by the way for those old school types who got used to the original way of the Chromecast but that's your call. Another problem with streaming from your phone is it not only does it cause your battery to die faster but it also shortens the overall life of your battery which means you have to buy a new expensive phone sooner so the cost of the Chromecast without remote then becomes considerably higher so spend a few extra bucks and get this one with the remote and save your phone. Another nice feature about the Chromecast is that if I see a YouTube video on my phone then I can easily cast it to my Chromecast and watch it on the big TV. I don't do that too often (for battery killing reasons stated above) but it's nice that it's an option.

I needed to add streaming services to a second older TV and I already have an appleTV box in my living room BUT I did not want to spend $150 on another apple TV so when this product came out I bought it and I'm extremely satisfied with it. Interface is easy to use, the remote itself is very easy to use but it is a little bit slippery at times. For 3rd the price as the apple version I think this is a no-brainer. I wish this was out before I purchased the appleTV box. Highly recommend.
