I've tried Roku, I've tried Amazon Fire Stick, I've tried what's built into my smart TVs, this beats them all... by a mile! The setup is very easy and intuitive (although installing apps is a little slow). The user interface is simple and easy to navigate. The remote is great and the voice control is top-notch. Better yet, if you have Google streaming services such as YouTube TV or YouTube Premium, the integration is fantastic. The picture and sound quality, especially with UHD, HRD & Dolby Vision is as good as it gets. If you're debating about which streaming device to get, stop right now and get the Google Chomecast with Google TV!

This is AWESOME! Buy it! You won't regret it. Set up is so easy. This device has all your streaming programs on one screen (e.g. Prime, Hulu, HBO Max, Pandora, Spotify, etc.) Easy to use and navigate. You can download additional news, music, tv and utility apps. Use your voice to search (e.g. Play Top Gun, play Beatles on Spotify, what is the weather today, etc.) You can start the tv and control volume directly from this remote. Enjoy!

One of the best casting streaming devices for older TVs to make them into a smart tv. I have a 2015 Vizio 4k TV and it’s a great tv but not too many choices for downloading new apps and I only have Netflix, YouTube, Hulu and that’s pretty much it. With this chromecast device my tv went from feeling a bit outdated to being somewhat updated to a new tv. My TVs picture quality is not bad at all just that it wasn’t compatible with newer streaming platforms from today and like I said this device took my tv to a whole new level and I can say it’s really great. Picture quality is actually enhanced and I can tell the difference and the interface is just amazing easy to navigate being able to have new apps really helpful and overall great product for the price also easy to set up. Would really recommend it I owned the older version chromecast ultra it was ok but the downside you would have to cast from your mobile or other smart device onto the chromecast but with this new updated version the controller is a really good addition to have. I love the chromecast products and once again great product google.

I always loved my 1st gen Chromecast for it's simplicity but I also felt like it couldn't really compete with the FireTV Stick. But now that there's GoogleTV built-in I feel like this new Chromecast has even overtaken the Fire Stick. You still get the simplicity of casting (4K BTW, no need for Chromecast Ultra anymore either) but now you also have the new AndroidTV OS aka GoogleTV with it's fully remote controllable interface. If you're already a Google user and part of the Google ecosystem then getting setup is super simple. One of the best things is having all your recommendations on the new "for you" screen, pulling from all of your subscription services and showing you where the content is available from. Side loading Android apps is also super easy and performance for games and emulators is pretty good for what it is. To get the most out of this new Chromecast I'd recommend getting a USB-C hub with power passthrough so you can add USB ports for extra storage or peripherals and an Ethernet port for a hard line internet connection.

If your trying to decide between purchasing the 1080p device but you have a 4k tv, dont do it. Id say go with the 4k from the jump! It works so much smoother and the picture wuality is noticably better. The device works great and is very fast. Id recommend to anyone looking for a smart tv device like this.

This has been something most of us have been wishing and hoping Google would eventually do. Make a Chromecast with an OS and a remote control instead of just casting a few apps from your phone. Basically make it do what other competitor's devices do but with Android TV. We've been asking for YEARS. Well... here it is with this device and it's now a legitimate competitive set top box at only $50 (but only 8GB of storage). Seriously, there's really no reason to ever buy the older versions of Chromecast now. This supports 4K, HDR, HDR 10+, Dolby Vision, and Atmos. Has a remote and a new fast OS where you can install so many apps from the Google Play store. No noticeable lag and It checks all the boxes. You really can't ask for much more at $50. Only gripe is how far the 8GB of internal storage will take us with no option to expand. But... I've put all my apps on there and still have room to spare.

As a journalist who covers the streaming media space, I've tried — and owned — nearly all of the streaming TV hardware on the market today, from the premium-priced Apple TV to the cheapest Amazon and Roku devices on sale. This one beats them all — hands down. It's not only the best Chromecast that Google has ever made, it's the best streaming device on the market. Period. First, let's talk about the apps — it has nearly everything you could want, from the majors (Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube, Hulu) to the up-and-coming (Disney Plus, HBO Max, Comcast's Peacock). Want to ditch cable and switch to live streaming TV? This integrates natively with Google's own YouTube TV quite nicely, but you can also choose Sling, Philo, AT&T TV Now, Hulu with Live TV, Fubo TV other streaming services if you want. Perhaps the most understated feature of the Chromecast with Google TV is that it's still a Chromecast — you can cast content from apps that aren't natively supported through Google TV using a phone or tablet just as you would with the previous generation model. For people who care about streaming in 4K, this is absolutely the Chromecast to get. The only reason to go for the more-expensive Chromecast Ultra is if you subscribe to Stadia (which is supported on the Ultra but not on this one). For everyone else, the 4K streamer to get is the Chromecast with Google TV. The interface takes a little getting used to, especially if you're coming from the clean structure of Roku or Apple TV — Google's content recommendation algorithms are in overdrive on this thing, and it will recommend you movies and TV shows to keep you glued to the screen. You can ignore most of these (as I do) and just use it with the apps you already use to watch the content you already want, and that's totally fine too. When you're feeling more adventurous, Google is more than willing to throw a few suggestions your way. And let's not forget the biggest improvement on this Chromecast versus the previous generation: The inclusion of a remote control for the first time, which makes it much easier to navigate through apps on Android TV (now called Google TV) using button presses and Google's built-in voice assistant. Dedicated buttons for volume and TV power are also on the remote, which makes it easy to ditch any other remote controls that might be laying around the couch or coffee table. (Bonus: It's one of the few remotes to offer a rare input switch — they really want you to ditch the stock TV remote and stick with Chromecast full time). Is it perfect? In most ways, but not in every way: If you're someone who prefers (or needs) a hard-wired Ethernet connection for Internet, you'll have to buy a separate power adapter from Google for this feature. Speaking of adapters, this isn't one of those devices you can plug in to your TV's USB port — it needs a little extra juice compared to your Fire Stick, Roku Stick or even the past-gen Chromecast, and it's insistent that you power it with the included adapter. There's also no expandable storage option, and since it runs Android, you'll find yourself occasionally clearing out some cache-hungry apps (like CBS All Access) in order to install others. For most people, those limitations are easy enough to overcome. The Chromecast with Google TV is the best streaming device to watch top-tier and niche streaming apps alike, made even better by its voice-assistant remote, it's ability to stream 4K HDR content and it's preservation of previous-generation Google Cast capability coupled with the next-generation Android TV operating system. When it comes to streaming TV, it's the best you can get for $50.

I recently purchased the Google Chromecast with Google TV 4K from Best Buy and couldn’t be happier with the experience. This device delivers stunning 4K visuals and HDR support that truly elevates my home viewing. The setup was incredibly simple—just plug it into the HDMI port, connect to Wi-Fi, and you’re ready to dive into a world of entertainment. What really sets this Chromecast apart is its intuitive Google TV interface. It smartly aggregates content from all my favorite streaming services into one easy-to-navigate hub. The voice-activated remote, powered by Google Assistant, makes searching for shows and movies effortless, and the device’s smart recommendations have quickly become my go-to for discovering new content. While the interface is impressively user-friendly, I did notice a slight delay in the initial response from the remote. Thankfully, a quick reset resolved the issue, and it has since been performing flawlessly. Overall, the Google Chromecast with Google TV 4K has transformed my streaming experience, offering exceptional picture quality, a seamless interface, and handy voice control—all at a competitive price. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade their home entertainment setup.

    Best Chromecast Ever

I've been a fan of Chromecast ever since it first came out. The simplicity of just throwing something from your phone up on a screen without fussing with turning a box on or picking up a remote was fantastic. The built-in Chromecast (and only Chromecast) is what originally attracted me to Vizio's Smartcast TVs and I haven't owned a TV without it built in since. As nice as being able to control everything from your phone is, it does have its limits. The new Chromecast with Google (Android) TV keeps everything that was great about Chromecast and adds a fantastic UI with a really easy to use remote. Being able to speak my show or movie into the remote and go right into watching it without having to find whatever app has it is really great. The interface is super snappy and doesn't have a ton of intrusive ads like the Smartcast platform I've gotten used to over the years. It supports every major HDR format and Dolby Atmos, so in general if your system and the app supports it you get it. It also integrates with the CEC control of my Vizio TV really well and the remote has no issues automatically turning the TV on, off, or switching to the correct input. I did notice a couple of apps like Movies Anywhere and Vudu were limited to 1080p streaming, but hopefully that will be fixed with an update at some point in the future. There's also a bug with some Dolby Vision movies I own where the frame rate seems to stutter on my TV. But overall I'm just so pleased with what Google has done with this thing. I plan on putting one on my other TV as well eventually.

I did a lot of research on the Chromecast and picked it over the Firestick. Works great, easy to install and comes in at a great price. I have upgraded it with a hub and flash drive to give me more storage to load more apps and hook up ethernet instead of wifi. The remote is new for Chromecast and is a welcome addition. The only thing on the remote that would make it even better would be to have the ability to fast forward or reverse. I use my TV remote for this, but doesn't always work the best. The interface is easy to move around in and can be customized to your liking. I also like how it will work with other google products to give you additional options. Overall, Great Product!

As someone who has used nearly all the smart tv devices and interfaces, this is my favorite so far. The price/capability is matched only by the 4K firestick, and I personally feel this one is better. For the record, I have owned: Apple TVs, Nvidia Shield, LG WebOS, Samsung Tizen, almost all the FireTV devices, all generations of chromecast. I have used and setup many Rokus, I've never owned one. With that said, there are 3 potential reasons in my mind for choosing something else. - No AppleTV app. Personally never watched anything on the service... so I don't know if thats worth it or not. Worth mentioning at least. - Nvidia Shield TV has the extras on lock. Between being able to host media servers, act as a smartthings hub, security camera dvr, 4K AI upscaling, and its gaming capabilities--you get something for the extra money. Its just a lot of extra money. And my experience has been fiddly at times, especially when trying to do all the server hosting. - 4K Firestick is basically a match in terms of price and capability. I personally find that the GoogleTV interface does a better job of predicting content I might be interested in. I had an HDR compatibility bug with the 4K stick and my Samsung KS8000 TV, but that shouldn't effect most people. Basically, if someone asks me what streaming device to get, I'll tell them get this new chromecast or the 4K Firestick depending on whether the google or amazon ecosystem fits the rest of their home better.

I picked one up over the weekend to compare it to my Apple TV. Here are my thoughts: Pros: Price! For $50, you cannot go wrong here! No shelf space required. It plugs in behind your TV or A/V receiver. Google Assistant on the TV and through your stereo! Ask it anything and get a response - often with accompanying on-screen images. Play any song, any movie, any YouTube video - all by voice command. All the apps you could possibly want (except for Stadia, but I'm not currently a member anyway). Smooth, pleasant interface. A.I. gets to know your preferences and makes somewhat intelligent suggestions for what you might want to see. Cons: Due to occasional lag while playing a movie and when switching between apps, the display has actually gone black a few times. It does tend to recover on its own, but I've also resorted to power cycling it manually (pulling the plug) more than once. It's quick to restart, but what's happening here? It might be because I have it (and all my other video devices) connected to my A/V receiver by HDMI rather than directly to the TV. I wish it would hand off text input to my iPhone or allow voice input like the Apple TV does when it comes to entering email addresses and passwords as I'm signing into apps or performing in-app searches. I've read you can get a powered USB-C hub to connect other devices like a webcam, and while this does intrigue me, I think if Google is offering Duo chat right out of the box, the dongle should at least have a USB port (and an adequate power supply) to support a generic webcam. Searching for movies to play using Google Assistant doesn't reveal movies in my Apple TV collection (but does well enough for other apps). There might be a wall between Apple's app and Google Assistant for all I know.

The Chromecast with Google TV is a marvelous streaming device and can hold it's own in the world of streaming devices. In the Package - The Chromecast device includes the dongle, a remote control, charging block (required) and usb-c cable and two batteries. The batteries are tucked at the very bottom of the box and can be missed, but trust me, they are there. They are also color coded to the device which is kind of cool. Setup - The reason I marked my review down from a 5 to a 4. Following the instructions, I started the installation process with the Google Home app, only to have the installation hang up repeatedly. I reset the device and manually installed it and the installation went through. Plan for it to take a while as it will need to upgrade the software and download the apps. Interface - The device is running Google TV, which is an upgrade to android tv and as far as I'm concerned, a big improvement. I have a Sony TV, running android TV and the Chromecast is smoother and visually much more appealing. In addition, using your viewing habits, Google TV will recommend potential shows it thinks you will like. Voting up or down the programming you watch will help improve the selection process. Apps - Between the native streaming apps, and casting, the Chromecast has most major services covered. If you subscribe to Youtube TV, the Chromecast will add a "Live" tab, which will open the Youtube TV program guide. It does include HBO Max, which seems to be a sticking point with other streaming devices, the one lacking service is Apple TV+. Remote - Notable for the new Chromecast is the included remote. I have seen mixed comments about it, personally I really like it. The remote takes two AAA batteries, which are included. The remote is small and fits comfortably in hand, it is actually similar in size with the Roku remote. The buttons are minimal, a D-Pad and enter button on top, a back button, Google Assistant button, home button, a mute button, and dedicated buttons for Youtube (which can be switched between Youtube or Youtube TV) Netflix, a power button and input selector. On the side is a volume button. The D-Pad can be used for pausing, fast forwarding and rewinding the programming. The remote can be programmed to operate your TV or soundbar, setup was easy and my remotes are able to power on and off the television, control volume and change the inputs. As a result, you may not need to juggle remotes to perform different tasks. Overall - Great picture and sound. I purchased my first device for my bedroom tv and liked it so much that I purchased a second device for my main television. 4K programming is sharp and the colors are excellent.

Very easy to install. Just make sure Google Home app has "ALL" permissions before installing. Fast, even when compared to the equivalent FireStick (4K). Integration with other Google products, Google home, Nest, etc. is great. Being an android device, makes logging into apps a breeze even when you forget your passwd. Example: Downloaded an app on this chromcast, it asked me to put my phone on the same LAN, I logged into the app on my android phone to the same app. It asked me: There is an instance on the same LAN asking for logging in permission: OK? I say OK and it immediately logs me into the chromcast version of the app. You can command Google to tune to certain channels and search for items for you. You can have the remote control a number of TVs, not just one!. CEC enablement have me connect the Chromcast to the receiver and pass through to the TV, so, I can cast to the receiver, control the TV and cast from any device into the Chromcast. You can communicate with other apps as long as you add it to the list of linked apps on Google Home app. YouTube button can be mapped to YouTube TV by long pressing it. Multiple profiles can be set on the Chromcast other than the account owner sign in, very useful. Complete integration is the most powerful aspect of this product. Only annoying caveat is the volume buttons on the side of the remote, which is NOT convenient. they could have put the Google microphone button on the side and the volumes on the top as Volumes get used a LOT. Me be next Hardware revision?

Was using a fire stick until this product came out. It does everything a chrome stick does, except it now has it's own interface, google assistant functionalities built in and has a little cool remote. 4k movies can be played on this and it kept it's casting from your phone abilities to display personal pictures and videos. It's definitely better the then Roku, and fire stick by far.

This is a great device for a first entry from Google. I say that because it's the first Google streamer with an interface, and a remote. It's as fast as my Apple TV, and much cheaper. I got this because of the intriguing interface. It's more content focused, instead of app focused. Not all apps are compatible with it's content on the home screen mode, but it has a pretty good selection, unlike the Apple TV which only works with a few apps. I hope that it adds profile switching, compatibility with more apps, specifically, Apple TV.

I would recommend this to a friend
