Overall great watch. Missing some features

The watch itself is beautiful and feels great on the wrist. I really like the mix of blue, black, and silver. Its quite the eye catcher. In the box you get the watch of course and a charger. The initial set up and some other functions are done in Citizen app which makes things very easy to get up and going, and to tweak things to your liking. It has a few things that you can customize as well. Such as widgets and faces. But not a lot more. Some may prefer this so its just set up and go. Others that like to tweak everything may miss this, especially if they have had other smartwatches or are familiar with others. The other thing missing is being able to fully answer calls from the watch. You can send it to your phone though and go from there. So this might be a deal breaker for some. I prefer sending things to my phone and using it instead anyway because the call quality will pretty much be better using phones. Likewise with texts. You can see that you have a notification but theres no way to reply. So it is missing some of the features from other watches. The oxygen and pulse meters are a nice touch for runners, exercise, etc. And the CZ Smart YouQ app has you covered for fitness and sleep monitoring. It monitors your daily activities and will even give suggestions on improving things for better health. One thing that is very good is the battery life. It has a claimed 18 day (not 18 hour) battery life. And I can see this being true. Even after extensive use it just kept going and going. So if not having to charge daily is something your looking for this is a great choice. If you are looking for a smartwatch that looks great, feels good, can monitor and help improve your daily exercise and health, with insanely good battery life this is a great choice.

My thought on the Citizen CZ Smart hybrid sport watch are somewhat varied. I am a huge fan of the design overall if used as a watch. I love the big bold look and the sport watch appeal. For someone with a small wrist or for someone who may not like a heavy watch, this one probably is not for you. But, for anyone who does like a larger watch, this one is very stylish. However, for a sports type watch, there is one issue that bothers me. When I look at the specs for this watch, it lists it as splash resistant. I am not sure why this type of watch was not designed with an IP rating of some sort. This is the type of watch I would have wanted to wear at a waterpark or fishing or at least be able to use it in some wet environments. The other, bigger problem I have with this watch may or may not be the problem with the watch, but maybe my old eyes. The app has a limited amount of available watch faces. All of them are some shade of gray. The alerts that the watch provides are a light shade of grey to a white, but to my eyes, they are very hard to read. Especially in some types of light. Citizen does a good job, allowing the watch hands to sweep back toward the nine position to be out of the way of the messages, but they are still very hard to read. The other problem I have with the watch is the cumbersome menus. The instructions give very little detail on how to use the watch and the app is not as user friendly as I would like, making navigation within the watch itself kind of a self learning experience. I will say, that the more I use the watch, the easier it is becoming to navigate, but it still takes several presses of the buttons to get to the menu you are looking for and once your there, then trying to read the words on the monochrome screen are very difficult. All of that said. I will use the watch as a watch and not as much as an extension of my phone like I can with some other smart watches. I love the look, but for a smart watch, I still think the touch screen versions are much easier to use and provide a lot more information. For some people, this could be a great watch, but realize it is not as simple to navigate as many others.

When I received my Citizen CZ Smart watch, I was immediately pleasantly surprised. It was packaged like it contained a precious egg. As I made it through the layers and opened the watch, just as my review title says, the first thing I noticed was how simplistic it was, YET, it was stunning. This watch is beautifully made. I have wore it while playing w/ my grandson in a pair of shorts and flip-flops and the next day w/ a suit to a meeting. It looks so stunning in any situation. I have gotten so many complements on it. I downloaded the app and charged the watch to full charge, and then paired it to my cell phone. The entire process went very smoothly and quickly. I have used it daily since I received it record my workout and it works so well. Granted, I am still in the infancy stage of trying to figure everything out on this watch, but the app makes the learning curve a lot easier. I love the sport band that its on the watch and the fact that it is so lightweight that you don’t even realize that you have it on. I also like the fact that Citizen says that the battery will last 18 days, that is a far cry longer than my old smart watch that I had to charge on a daily basis. If you are looking for an amazing watch that can be worn everyday, ALL day, day after day, don’t hesitate to purchase this Citizen - CZ Smart Unisex stainless Steel hybrid sport watch. I highly recommend it.

I have been an Apple watch user for years, but I loved how this watch looked when I saw it and I wanted to try a smart watch that looked more like a regular, upscale watch. Unfortunately, for a number of reasons, this watch misses the mark for me. Pros: - The setup was very easy. The watch is nicely packaged with the watch and a charger. The included instructions are useless, just turn on the watch and it will display a QR code to scan which will lead you to download the Citizen app. The setup of the watch through the app was very easy and I had it up and running quickly. - You can customize every widget on the screen; weather, fitness, battery, notifications, etc. - The watch feels very sturdy, I like the band a lot and it feels good on my wrist. I have big wrists and the band is plenty big for me Cons: - The backlight only comes on when you touch the screen, it's very hard to see the face of the watch in limited light - It is not touchscreen - You can view notifications on the watch, like Venmo, facebook, texts, but cannot reply to texts which makes it fairly useless - The dials on the watch do not turn like the Apple watch which is a big miss for me. It makes it more difficult to navigate. They are trying to keep this more like a typical watch, but with smart features. If you're going to make a smart watch, go 100% and make a smart watch I do not like this watch and doubt I will ever wear it.

I've been using this for a week now, putting my other smart watch off to the side to fully review this one and see how they compare. In comparison to my other fruit based watch this is a very different approach to smart wearable technology. First the obvious one is that this does not have a touch screen, all functions are controlled through the side buttons and dials. Second is the dial is either e-ink or just a greyscale LCD display, so details are minimal but information is well presented and concise. Last and most obvious is that this looks almost entirely like a normal watch. The battery life is great, going four days on a charge for me. I ride my bike to work and will start a workout heading in both directions, battery life will vary obviously depending on your use but expect at least a full day in most cases. I found the activity tracking to be about 10-15% different in calorie tracking compared to my usual watch, not sure who's more accurate there but interesting that they're so far off. My biggest gripe would be everything being handled through the dials, I much prefer being able to tap exactly what I need instantly, but I suppose that's the trade-off in looking like a regular wrist watch. Although by this point the squared off AW isn't out of place so I'm not sure if looking like a normal watch is even that important these days. Especially because the Citizen brand is seen as an "entry level" watch if you're serious about horology. The app is easy to use and helps with the customization of the watch faces, it lets you determine where the complications are placed and what info you want displayed front a center. So far I really enjoy wearing this as an alternative to my normal watch, especially if I want something to dress up a little bit while still also tracking activity.

I was one of those guys who felt like a smart watch was a waste, useless even. The first time I wore one, my mind quickly changed – took about 2 days. Most of my experience has been wearing the standard touch screen watch. The Citizen CZ Smartwatch has been a different experience, albeit refreshing. Unboxing this watch is unlike other smartwatches in the sense you feel like it is an actual watch rather than a screen driven device. It’s stylish, has a substantial feeling, and is very well built. First thing to note is this is an actual watch with smart functionality built in. There is an hour and minute hand used to display and keep time. This watch made a very good first impression – I really like it. I have also received compliments from people who have seen it on my wrist, more so when they saw me using it as a smartwatch. Getting up and running with the Citizen CZ is pretty simple and was seamless. Just download the Citizen Connected app and follow the set up guide. This isn’t my first rodeo with the Citizen CZ line, so, of course, I did some comparing as I explored and set up the new watch. They are basically the same with the newer watch feeling a tad bit heavier. The bands are slightly different, but both are like sturdy silicone. When turned on, the screen on the newer model seems crisper and a tad bit brighter – I feel I can see it better in well lit and daylight conditions. Also, the night light seems to spread a bit more evenly over the screen of the more recent watch. Also, Citizen has really put in some work on the app since I got my first CZ, as well as the watch OS. There is a lot here for a watch with hands. You have alarms, stop watch, timer, weather, workout, wellness, music, ring my phone, etc. It’s a plethora of apps for any user, and more than fits the bill for the average person. These translate pretty well to the Citizen Connected app from a fitness, wellness, and sleep perspective. I found that the watch does an admirable job tracking most of my activities. It tracks steps (real steps or distance moved) and active hours. You can review your activity history in each category, and set goals in the app. One area I feel could be better is connectivity. I use Strava to track my cycling, walking, and running activities. It would be nice to have Strava integration. It does have Google Fit, but I’ve never used it. The data captured by my CZ Smartwatch seems to be pretty accurate, even my sleep data is decent. This isn’t just a heart rate monitor; it’s got chops, and I’m impressed. Overall this watch is a good option for those looking for a smartwatch that behaves and looks more like a traditional watch. Notifications display pretty quickly, there are a lot of options and apps to satisfy a wide range of users, and the battery life is very impressive – I can get more than a week out of a single charge. This is a fabulous smartwatch if you aren’t looking for the standard touchscreen design.

I've always loved Citizen watches. I got this watch to have something that looks better than my regular smart watch. I figured I would wear it while going out and use my other smart watch for work since there is a chance that it may get scratched/damaged. Initial setup was done through the Citizen Connected app while the watch was charging. You can configure they layout of the screen, customize the dials (heart rate, steps, weather, etc.) and manage notifications. I like the idea of a hybrid. A traditional watch with actual hands, but also smart so that you can get notifications, track steps, check the weather, heart rate, etc. However, after using it, I find that I don't care for it much. I've gotten so used to the entire face of my smart watch being the screen that it's extremely hard to get used to the way emails or texts are on the screen. They are split between the top above the center where the hands are and the bottom section. It's also not touch screen so clearing messages, emails, etc. becomes tedious. For example, on my regular smart watch, to clear a notification I simply swipe up on it and it's gone. On the Citizen CZ Smart watch, you have to push the bottom button several times. If you get an email notification and it's three pages long (on the screen) you have to push the bottom button three times to get to the end of it. The fourth push is the "Clear Notification?" screen. The fifth push selects yes and clears the notification. That's a lot just to clear one notification. To be fair, you can hit the middle "Home" button, then the top button to go to notifications and clear them that way, but it's still a lot. I'm not terribly fond of the blue band, I believe they should have gone with black. From what I've read, it is not interchangeable. You can turn on the back light by double tapping the face. One thing I noticed when I first set up the face was that depending on the time, the hands cover the complications (weather, date, etc.). I discovered that you can turn your wrist back and forth twice quickly and the hands will do a full rotation of the screen so that you can momentarily see behind them. That is a nice feature. All of the limited backgrounds are black, gray or white. I have mine set to a black background with white complications. When a notification comes through and the complications disappear to show it, the text is a light gray color which isn't the easiest to read. From a full charge, after three days of use and getting many notifications, the battery was only down to 80%. That's incredible. The CZ Smart YouQ app gives you a deeper dive into things. The watch will track things like heart rate, sleep and you can take "alert checks" in the app. Eventually, it will learn when you are at your most and least alert during the day. I believe that I will stick to my regular smart watch for daily use at work throughout the week, and the Citizen CZ Smart watch will become my weekend watch with all notifications removed. Would I recommend this watch? That's a hard one. Yes and no. Yes for the person that wants a great looking watch from a great watch company and needs/wants light smart watch capabilities. No for those looking for a full featured, easy to use smart watch.

The Citizen CZ Smart 44mm Hybrid Sport Smartwatch is a great option for those who are looking for a stylish and functional smartwatch. There is a tradeoff, some functions like color and touch screen gone but in its place an E-ink E-book reader black and white screen (this was REALLY smart). I have been wearing the Citizen CZ Smart 44mm Hybrid Sport Smartwatch for 9 days now at its only at 60%. YES 60%. FINALLY and “smart” watch that doesn’t need to be charge every 3 days or so (some need to be charged everyday). I get message and notifications like any other smart watches without the noise just a little vibration (which could be stronger). The silicone strap is comfortable for me. Im not sure if others will view it the same. I may change it out with a silver metal band that matches the watch face. (im pretty sure there is an option). This way I can wear it in a more formal setting. Here are some of the pros and cons of the Citizen CZ Smart 44mm Hybrid Sport Smartwatch: Pros: • Stylish and functional design • REALLY Long battery life 18 days is possible • Comfortable silicone strap • Variety of smart features Cons: • Not as many features as some other smartwatches • Strap can be a bit bulky for some people • Hard to read in the dark. No color screen or touch screen Overall, the Citizen CZ Smart 44mm Hybrid Sport Smartwatch is a great option for those who are looking for a stylish, functional, and affordable smartwatch. It is a great choice for people who are looking for a way to stay connected and active.

Visually, this watch is quite striking. The metallic blue bezel really stands out, and the screen resolution is sharp enough to appear naturally part of the dial. The rubber strap is comfortable, and while large, the case doesn't hang over the sides of my 6.75" wrist. You can modify the top and bottom pushers to create shortcuts to your preferred functions, the selection of which is more limited than a typical smart watch. Operation is fairly intuitive, though figuring out how to switch between and modify dial layouts in the app was more difficult than it needs to be. It also doesn't help that some watch faces can be customized to show different information and others cannot. There is a third-party app that will bring in some external information from the internet, but that is also quite limited. The pulse rate and pulse ox sensors appear to be fairly accurate, but updates of that data are not frequent. If you want take a reading at a specific point in time, the watch is picky about holding your hand still or laying it flat on a table (the latter for measuring pulse ox). It was also not great about automatic detection of workouts. It thought I was rowing when I was doing bicycle crunches, and when I did a 30-minute row, it only recorded three and a half minutes of it. What it does have is great battery life. After a full 24 hours of wear, the battery level had only gone down to 95%. If you want to trade the broader functionality of a true smart watch for better battery life while still hanging on to most of the essential features, this may be the option for you.

This is my 2nd Citizen smartwatch and I was fortunate to have the 1st generation model of this to really make a good comparison. I really like that 1st gen watch and it still held a spot in my weekly watch rotation, until this model came along. This new watch has quickly taken over the spot on my wrist from its predecessor. Its response time is quicker, I found it to be more accurate with activity and exercise tracking, and I love the custom screen options. What I don’t like and really am having a hard time understanding is why the heck Citizen cant make this waterproof. Part of my weekly exercise is swimming at the ymca and my own pool. No other watches I own are not fully waterproof and they are fully submersible… except this one. I never even think to take my Apple Watch off prior to doing yard work then jumping in the pool, but with this watch I have to be more careful. I hate that. If I’m wearing a watch that day I don’t want to have to think about removing it until I’m done for the day. I wish I could do that with this watch because I really love it.

I'm fairly up to date on technology but when it come to watches I'm probably a little old fashioned. I want a watch that communicates with my phone, has some useful health features, and has a battery life that I constantly don't have to worry about. But most of all, I want a watch that looks like a good old fashioned, high end watch. The Citizen CZ Hybrid Smartwatch fits that bill by combining these functions and also looking like a nice piece of jewelry. The Citizen CZ is easy to set up. An app can be downloaded from either the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store depending on what type of phone you have. In my case, I have a Samsung Galaxy S22 so I downloaded from the Google Play Store. Once the app was downloaded, I went to the citizenwatch website to register and setup my watch. Functionality included with the Citizen CZ included heart rate, activity tracking, weather, and advanced sleep monitoring as well as syncing with Google Fit and Apple Health. Bluetooth is used to communicate between the phone and watch. Battery life is very good at approximately 10 days. In summary, I recommend the Citizen CZ to anyone wanting a more conventionally good looking watch with useful functionality and battery life.

Citizen is a great watch brand, so when I heard about this CZ hybrid smartwatch I was eager to get this for my fiancé. Out of the box it is definitely visually appealing. It gives you the impression that it’s a regular analog citizen watch, which has a great appeal. You know other brands of smartwatches, and can usually spot them a mile away. With this hybrid watch, it’s very deceptive, which my fiancé appreciated. The face is large, and very easy to see and read. Getting the watch to connect to my fiancé who’s phone runs on Android for the time being wasnt as seamless as I would have liked, which is why I deducted a star. He did have difficulty pairing the watch initially, but I was able to help him out and get it connected. He will be switching to IOS in the next few weeks, so the fact that unlike other brands of smart watches, this can follow him across mobile platforms, and not really lose functionality is great. We are currently exactly 14 days into the battery life, and it hasn’t needed to be charged. We really wanted to confirm if the 18 day battery life claim was true, and so far so good on that. This is a great alternative for people who want to be able to have freedom of moving across phone platforms. If you want something stylish and different, as well as a great quality smartwatch with a good battery life this is the smartwatch for you!

My capsule comment: I think the only reason you’d want to purchase this watch is if you don’t like wearing a normal smartwatch because you feel too ‘geek-like’ wearing a plastic watch which is more like a computer. In this case, this watch which is a beautiful looking timepiece would be perfect for you. I really wanted to love this watch. It seemed like such a great idea. A smartwatch with actual mechanical hands, and then beneath them you’d get the typical info you get from other smartwatches. And as a bonus its battery lasts for over two weeks, instead of the two-day maximum with most other smartwatches. The first problem was the readability of messages in the watch. The text is tiny. If you’re over the age of 40, I don’t think you’d be able to read anything the watch tried to tell you without glasses. And of course, to save the battery life, you need quite a bit of ambient light to read anything. The watch does have a little backlight however. You tap the watch face two times to turn it on for about three seconds. You’ll find you’ll be doing a lot of tapping during a typical day. The hands on the watch are supposed to be luminous, but the luminescence was totally gone long before my bedtime, even if I left the watch sitting in bright sunlight all day. So, if you wake up and want to read the time at 3 AM, prepare to do a lot of tapping, and speaking of tapping, there is no touchscreen on this watch, tapping to turn the backlight on is all that you can do. As with most smartwatches today, the watch came with no instructions, aside from the one which told you how to pair it to your watch. Look online for the Citizen YF-30 manual. Bottom line, as I said at the beginning, this is probably the most beautiful smartwatch available today. Perhaps it would be a watch you’d wear on more formal occasions. I just don’t think it would be one that you’d want to use as your only smartwatch.

I have been pretty impressed with the latest Citizen Smart watch in Stainless Steel. This is a well designed and very comfortable to wear watch. It comes in a very nice box as well so it would be very suitable for a gift. This awesome watch also combines a fluid smartwatch OS system with easy functionality and traditional sports watch looks. It has a Snapdragon Wear 4100 processor, 8GB of internal storage, a heart rate sensor with SpO2 (blood oxygen) measurement, and various other health-tracking capabilities. You will need to download the CZ Smart YouQ app, a proprietary wellness app that tracks and analyzes your daily health metrics such as rest, heart rate and fitness activity to help the wearer better understand their body's rhythms. I really like how it has a continuous heart rate monitoring and it is well suited for all your gym activities as well as whether you’re hitting the trails, or running into the office, heartrate and gyroscope sensors provide continuous heartrate tracking, and monitor your workouts with auto activity detection. Another feature I like about the app is you can even challenge a friend to a workout. With advanced sleep monitoring you can monitor your sleep habits and recovery and syncs with Apple Health and Google Fit. The Citizen connect app will provide you with your fitness and sleep data any time you need it. Pros: Excellent Built, Awesome Looks, good tracking capabilities Cons: Battery life could be longer.
