Using Ios, it’s a bit clunky and somewhat cumbersome to set it up. The screen navigation takes some getting used to. It’s construction and quality are very good. No issues with performance. If the ios set up was more user friendly it would have been (5) five stars.

Timeless classic watch with modern day smarts

I’ve been a long fan of citizen watches, having owned and collected quite a few of their models over the years. If it weren’t for the need for biometric tracking I’d still be wearing those today. Well, that changed last week when I received my Citizen CZ Smartwatch. All the looks and branding of a classy watch, with none of the missing features. The packaging and overall presentation of the watch in the box are very attractive (far better than the previous citizen watches I’ve owned including the eco-drive solar-powered watch). The watch is available in three colours, this one is stainless steel, but it’s also available in black and gold. The strap install is rather cumbersome due to the metal loop, but with some finesse, one can install the strap rather easily. What I did miss in the box and I wish Citizen had included one, was the link removal tool. Thankfully, one of my other watches had it, so I used that to re-size my watch to fit my wrist. The watch runs Google Wear OS. If you are entrenched into the Google ecosystem, this is the watch to have. Downloading the WearOS app on my phone was a breeze, but getting the phone to pair seemed to be a bit finicky at best. It took some time for the Bluetooth to be detected by the phone, but after that, the rest of the setup was quite easy. Once paired, the initial updates of the operating system and apps, the phone was ready for your wrist. First off, one must temper the expectations, this is not an iWatch, it’s a WearOS powered watch, with many similar features, but not all the features. It features message notification, Google assistant, on-watch speakerphone, Google pay, Google fit & fitness tracking with GPS features, and emergency ‘noonlight’ safety notification among others. If you are looking for a wide variety of apps, well you got 4GB of space to fill that up with. However, the app experience is limited and I found that aspect a bit of a downer since I was expecting more app compatibility. The google apps that you need for daily use (calendar, mail, text messaging, assistant, phone calls) all work fantastically well. You will be swiping your way to productivity in no time. Between the three buttons and a rotating centre crown, and the 4-way swiping motion, one can easily navigate the watch. So what is the watch like to use on a daily basis? Other than the battery life which can be improved by turning off the GPS and other screen optimizations, you will find yourself charging it every night. On average, I ran about 20 hours before it needed charging. The watch is heavy and classy, I got quite a few comments on date night for its looks. What the watch seemingly lacks in ability, it makes up for looks, however, as stated - this is no iWatch, the basics are there and they work very well, and if that is all you need, this is the watch for you. For an everyday watch, this works well and will hold up way better than any other device thanks to its rugged construction. Pros: * Gorgeous classy watch for that guy who has everything * Built-in GPS, Heart Rate Monitor, Google Assitant, Google Ecosystem, GPay * Noonlight - safety system Cons: * Heavy.. Took a bit of getting used to, not for small wrists * Text size is not adjustable, hard to read notifications when it pops up, even though it's clear to read. * Sleep monitoring isn’t as accurate as my other smartwatch, I wore both to bed to compare. * Loses sync with the phone - has to be re-connected often.

Citizen - CZ Smartwatch 46mm in SS. Not too bad

First, I must admit that I’m a bit of a Citizen nerd — especially their Eco-Drive watches in titanium. I was hoping to find the CZ Smartwatch in my favorite finish, but the stainless will do…and it is attractive. I’ve been considering a smartwatch for some time, but I didn’t want some futuristic “watch” that looked like something from the Jetsons (I’m dating myself). I like the way it looks, similar to a classically designed divers watch. Just don’t jump in the pool with it. Maybe that’s something Citizen could work on — its underwater rating. The different face styles from which you can choose are a nice touch. I even downloaded an off brand face that looks good. There are a few on Google Play. (*By the way, before doing any setup, no matter how you interpret the manual, make sure the watch is fully charged. I tried setup at about 40% while connected with the charger and ran into a few do-overs.) The control functions are fairly simple and allow for a rather large amount of customization, depending upon your needs. For me, there’s a bit of a learning curve, especially when dealing with Google’s Fit software/selections. I think that’s one of the things that makes this watch so versatile — its customizabilitude. There, that’s now a word. Downfalls? I mentioned that it really isn’t waterproof to any reasonable depth. There is a difference between being waterproof and water resistant. Don’t risk it with a watch at this price point. That being said, if you forget and wear it in the shower, you’re probably fine. Another ding would be the battery life. For any reasonable use other than just as a watch, you can expect barely a day before needing a charge. Multiple days would be nice, Citizen. If used as a watch and not much else, you may get 2 days. On the bright side, it does charge quickly. It went from 8% to 90% while charging during a 20 minute shower and shave. Would I take this with me while traveling? Probably not. Just another device to worry about where I last put the charging cable. At home, not a problem. It’s easy to get into the routine of charging at night while sleeping. Of course when you do that, you miss out on any of the sleep monitoring features. Oh, well. The overall feel and the watch’s fit-and-finish — especially compared to my other Citizens — close, but not quite there. I’m not sure how to explain this, so take this comment with a grain of salt. That being said, I think Citizen can do better. I know they can. This is their first jump into the market of smartwatches. Also, if it helps, there are a number of YouTube videos that Citizen has produced about the functioning of this watch. Check ‘em out. Would I recommend this watch to a friend? Only if it went on a big sale (maybe Christmas?)

    Nice Traditional Watch Option

If you’re looking for a “classic” watch look and feel, but with the benefit of a smartwatch, this may be the model for you. The Citizen CZ from a visual perspective has all of the look and feel of a traditional watch. It has a completely round face, buttons and a dial on the right of the face, and a traditional band. Setup was straight forward and easy. I did find attaching the band a bit obnoxious as you have to line up pins to the mounting points on the face. I stripped a bit to get this connected, but eventually made it happen. This is by far the most frustrating thing about the entire watch. Citizen should revamp this design in future versions. Once “installed” and charged, the watch is ready to pair to your phone. This is done via the WareOS app which is available on iOS or Android. Once installed going through the prompt to pair it to the phone was simple. Most settings are controlled directly from the wareOS app. Watch faces, updates, app installs, etc… I found the wareOS app easy to use and navigate. Using this watch on iOS left many features and notifications did not working. I found 2 factor notifications did not work on my iOS device and many of the companion apps didn’t copy over (such as DUO), native iOS mail did not notify on the wareOS watch. On Android, paired to my Pixel 4, these notification worked just fine. I found using the watch for daily activities such as telling time, getting calendar reminders (when working on Android), getting health updates via the Google Fitness app, or making NFC payments via Google Pay when in a store were all simple and easy to use. The interface of wareOS is very simple, and swiping between apps, settings, or different watch faces was easy. There was even a nice tutorial when it first booted up walking you through the navigation features. I found overall performance to be really good. The wareOS was responsive and smooth, as you would expect from a modern product. The screen was plenty bright and I had no issues seeing the display in the daylight. Text was also crisp and colors were vivid. The only glaring issue I found was battery life. I got about 12 hours out of the watch with minimal use, and I found over time, the battery life got better. Initially, when setting it up, playing with many setting, checking out all the features, and constantly checking the time, I got about 6 hours out of the battery. I found when I was achieving 12 hours, it was a non-issue as it would last me through the day and did what I needed. If I happened to have a longer evening, I would have needed to charge it before going back out, which could become an issue and annoyance with having to keep a charger on hand or at the office. The 46mm watch face, while great to see, was very large on my small wrists. I would have preferred a slightly smaller face in order to feel like it actually fit me. The edges were wider than my wrist was so it looks a bit odd and obvious when wearing. Overall something I could live with, especially if I only use this as a “formal ware” device, which is always nice having that option when most other smart watches tend to ditch a traditional look in favor of a more futuristic one. Overall, this is a good wearOS watch and does what it sets out to do fairly well. If you’re in the Google ecosystem and want a traditional watch with smooth and quick performance and can live with a max of 12 hour battery, this is a great choice. For all the iOS users out there, I’d look for better suited products for that ecosystem.

The first thing to know is that the installed OS appears to be a pretty vanilla version of Google Wear OS, for all of the good and bad that entails. Citizen made the hardware, and Google made most of the software on it. First, the physical design. This thing is a chunky boy, with a 46mm diameter (not including crown and pushers), and a total thickness of 11.3mm (not including the small pulse sensor bulge on the bottom). The actual glass on the front is 38mm, and the display itself only takes up 33mm of that. Outside of the glass is a dive-style bezel that looks like it SHOULD be able to rotate, since it features a scalloped edge. However, this is fake, as it doesn't turn at all. The hour markers do help if you are using an analog watch face without markers, but the minute markers between the 12:00 and 4:00 positions are quite useless. The weight of the watch itself (minus any strap or bracelet) is 55g, which is actually not bad for a steel-cased watch this size. There are standard 20mm lugs, and the lug to lug distance is just under 52mm. It advertises 30m of water resistance -- plenty for a watch of this type. Fine in the rain or maybe the swimming pool, but not a dive watch. The watch is also sealed -- no screw-down back (not that I was expecting one), and replacing the battery (if it is ever needed) is clearly not inteded to be done by the user. The back also features the charge rings, and this is compatible with Fossil Gen 5 charging cables (cheaper than the Citizen version). The included bracelet is a very mixed bag. It looks a bit cheap given the price, and rattles a bit. The links are polished in the center and brushed on the edges. It has a fold-over keeper for the clasp, as well as two pushers, and also features three micro-adjust holes. It does not feature end links at all, but does at least include captive quick-release spring bars. It consists of folded steel links, and weighs in at 75 grams (with one link removed to fit me). Yes, the bracelet is heavier than the watch itself. It doesn't look bad, but I would recommend saving the bracelet for more dressy occasions. Note that if you want to use the included bracelet, you will need to have it sized to fit you. You can take it to any jewler to have it done, or can do it yourself if you have the tool (not included). I threw a canvas strap on mine, and the total watch + strap came in at 67g total -- light enough to be comfortable all day. The use of NATO or Zulu straps is not recommended, as they will cover the heart rate sensor. There is an agreement between Citizen and the Swatch group to cooperate in the smartwatch arena. Citizen actually makes the insides, and sells them to the Fossil group to put in a case. So if you find one of those watches that you think looks better, they likely have similar innards and features. Brands include Fossil, Diesel, Skagen, Emporio Armani, Michael Kors. So if you want a watch that has different style, the Swatch group watches should feature similar quality and specifications, giving you more choice in the looks department. As to the function, being a Wear OS device, it pairs nicely with an Android phone, and the app store features plenty of watch faces to download. There is a heart rate tracker and step counter built in, and Google's "Fit Heart Rate" and "Fit Workout" apps are included. At its highest power setting, the battery should last all day but will need to be charged every evening (fortunately, it charges fast). There is also a GPS and compass, allowing you to download and use the Google Maps app, but this app takes more power. There is also a tilt sensor on-board, but a "Compass Level" app showed the tilt sensor to be off by about 7 or 8 degrees. You can easily take or make phone calls using the built-in speaker and microphone. You can even download a podcast app and pair bluetooth speakers directly to the watch, but at the expense of greatly reduced battery life. So, overall, if you feel the need for a smartwatch, and are tied to the Android ecosystem, then this watch is certainly worth considering. I chose the steel version simply because it should last quite a while. I have seen black finishes wear off over time, which would seriously mar the looks, and by avoiding any type of color, that problem is eliminated. Steel fimishes also just look classy.

This was extremely well packaged, and upon opening it, I had high expectations for the watch. The construction is impeccable, and the watch looked good. The included bands must be attached, but they have the quick release tabs, so a simple task. This has 8Gb storage, so you have room for additional apps, snapdragon 3100 processor, a 1.28-inch AMOLED display with 416x416 pixels resolution. For connectivity, you get GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC. Sensors on board include heart rate monitor, barometer, accelerometer, and gyroscope. The AMOLED display is gorgeous, bright, colorful and sharp. Keep in mind, this is a large watch, and may overwhelm someone with a smaller wrist. The center knob uses both a push and rotate function. Rotating can "scroll" menu's. Charged the watch and installed the Google Wear OS. After watch was fully charged, went on with setting up the watch, personalizing it, etc. I found the operation was excellent, wi-fi connection and pairing perfect. Then the "cons" of the watch started to creep in. After only a couple hours of working with the watch, the battery had already dropped to 60%. It is apparent this watch will need to be charged daily, so any night time tracking might be out of the question. Next, trying to find a watch face was disappointing. There are only a few preinstalled faces, and trying to find one on Google became a nightmare. These are only a few of the misses, and to some, maybe very minor. However, in this price range, I would expect far more. There are similar watches with similar specs available at about half the cost of this one. Sadly, cannot recommend.

I want to start by saying this is a beautiful watch. Even if you don’t use all of the features, it’s a beautiful piece of jewelry. I got the silver watch and it looks very classy and upscale. It has a face that is 1.5 inches in diameter. I had to take it to a jeweler to get it sized as it had too many links and did not fit me properly. The watch comes in a box with a snug fitting foam for protection. It also comes with instructions and a charger. The first thing you should do is charge the watch while you go to your App Store and download the “Wear OS” app. It’s a white box with a blue, yellow, green, and red “W”. Charging the watch completely will take about 30 minutes (if the battery is completely drained, it takes about an hour). Once you have done that, you can connect your phone to your watch. This process is very easy and takes about five minutes. If you have a google account, you can sync it to your watch. The watch has several useful features. One of features I enjoy most is talking through my watch. It makes me feel like James Bond. When I placed my call, I was told I sounded very clear (when I had my arm down it sounded far away but as soon as I lifted my arm up towards my mouth I sounded fine). It was very easy to make calls and you can easily switch between your phone and your watch. You also have a “flashlight” feature which all it did was put a white screen on the face of the watch and brightened the screen. And it worked!!! You can also change the design of the face of the watch just by holding your finger on the face of the watch. You have a choice of 5 faces or you can go to the google store to download more. It also has the following apps already stored: hand washing timer, find my phone, agenda, alarm, contacts, fit breathe, fit goals, fit heart rate, fit workout, Google pay, reminders, Spotify, stopwatch, translate, weather, play store, and wellness. All of them are so easy to use and very convenient. When you receive texts it shows on the face of the watch. However, I could not figure out how to text back on the watch. I’m not sure if it is because my phone is an Apple phone and the watch is a Google watch. But they are compatible in that I can see my texts. I also tried the Google assistant and I had some issues because the watch kept displaying that I was not connected. Sometimes Google assistant worked and sometimes not. Overall the watch is beautiful and classy. Some of the features/apps worked great while the connectivity to the wifi was spotty. But I would still get this watch and use whatever features I can.

Citizen - CZ Smartwatch 46mm Stainless Steel Case – Gold A number of years ago before smartwatches, I wanted a Citizen watch but my financial status kept me from doing so. This is my opportunity to enjoy this Citizen experience and I do love the watch. This Citizen Smartwatch is a wonderful timepiece that looks and feels like a conventional watch combined with smartwatch features. there are five different screens to choose from. The watch operating system is Wear OS by Google. My phone is an iPhone 12. I can’t comment on the difference but I am sure with an Android phone the options for the watch might be more extensive. Nonetheless, this watch is compatible with iOS 12 and newer phones. The feature I like best on this watch is that the watch face can be set to be on all the time. This setting produces a standard looking analog watch face without a second hand and simply allows me to look at the watch to know what time it is. If I want more information from the watch, I just tap the watch face to get the screen I want to see. The watch came with a booklet that gave instruction for the set up. Step 1 showed how to attach the watch band. Step 2 showed how to remove the watch band. Step 3 instructed me to connect the charging cable to the watch and to the USB power source. The installation then began. Step 4 Enable Bluetooth on my iPhone and download the Google Wear OS app from the Apple app store After successfully pairing the phone to the watch a tutorial displayed an interactive tutorial that would finish the installation. In just a few minutes the watch was ready to be used. Needless to say, the installation and maintenance of the watch is simple and straightforward. Installation and setup instructions are available on the Citizen website. The apps and functions I found on the watch include: Calendar From the phone Playstore Alarm From the phone Contacts From the phone Find Phone Breath Fitness Apps Phone Reminders Spotify Stopwatch Translate Timer Weather I would highly recommend this Citizen Smartwatch. Citizen is a great name in the watchmaking business and the watch is a high-quality timepiece.

This Citizen smart watch is a great alternative to some of the other brand's of smart watches. It uses Google Wear OS and was very easy to connect with the Wear app on my phone. It is not as easy to choose alternate watch faces other than the ones that come with it. However it does everything you could want. it tracked my steps and heartbeat, it tracks thru Google Fit. it lets me know when I have calls and messages and shows me pictures that some one has sent me. You can choose which items you get notifications from. Over all I like this watch a lot it is not as heavy as some other brands. comfortable to wear and has long battery life. It also charges quickly once attached to the charger

Was very excited to get this. When it came today I set it up and liked the features. The band seemed a lot cheaper looking and feeling than expected. The 46 head seemed too big and top heavy. I definitely dont have a little wrist either. The pictures looked good but seeing it in person it looked a bit ridiculous like you are trying to hard to be flashy and most would know it is a huge fake gold watch. Returning it right away sadly and I'll look for something a little more toned down.
