    Basic Radios

These are nice looking, mid range radios. They have one watt of power and all of the features that most people are going to be looking for in a set of radios, but not a lot of bells and whistles. One nice addition is that the proactive NOAA Weather Alert is included with this model. The only thing I would recommend is to buy new NiMH rechargeable batteries other then the ones they give you. Because the rechargeable batteries are only 650mAH I would recommend buying good rechargeable batteries like Energizer rechargeable batteries because they will hold more power so you will got more run time out of your radios,You're never going to get the maximum rang on a frs/ gmrs radio.

Crystal clear optical sound! Just make sure you have some room in your case. I had to squeeze it in there tight.

Fine at short distances, only static at >.2 miles

I work at a small employee-owned company, and purchased this product to give to a retiring coworker as a silly gift so she could still chat with us occasionally while at her house. She lives 1.4 miles from the office (in a straight line from our office), and we are located in a city with very few buildings over 2 stories in height. As she left the office for her final time as an employee, we turned on the radios and started chatting to make sure they would work all the way to her house. While the advertised range in cities is listed at 2 miles, she started fading almost immediately, and I was receiving nothing but static by the time she got to the nearest cross-street -- approximately .4 miles away. I was standing outside while trying to talk with her, so there shouldn't have been a performance hit from the building, and I'm unaware of any businesses nearby that would be causing electromagnetic interference. These may work perfectly outside of a city, but based on my experience in what shouldn't be a taxing situation for the radios, I can't recommend that people risk wasting their money on these, particularly at a cost of approximately $50 for the pair.
