I had this model of dash cam installed in my Buick with no issues, so when I got my new Chevrolet, I installed the same model. However, the one in the Chevy tends to have the screen go black while in use, and the date keeps defaulting to 01/01/2020. Neither of these will help if I am in an accident. While I appreciate the price, I need something reliable.

This dual cam system is very practical, and easy to use! After initial set up you pretty much never have to touch it again! It auto records and saves videos. It even self-erases old videos in order to save storage. Set up is easy, you can find a way to hide your cables along the trim of your interior. The app is useful for going back to watch videos and download them to your phone. I highly recommend this product for those who want an easy experience. Happy driving!

Nice compact dashcam that has A LOT of features. It only took me about 45 mins to install it myself in a Toyota Tundra including tucking the power and rear camera cables away under the ceiling edge for a clean installation. It’s small enough too that it’s hidden from my view while driving – mounted it right behind my rear view mirror (see pics). Pretty much ready to go out of the box and starts recording immediately. If you don’t want to use the app, you don’t need to. Plug it in and go. It starts recording automatically and then if you want the videos, just pop out the Micro SD card and connect to a computer to download. Video looks very good – even at night. If you do use the app, there are lots of other features. You can set everything up from either the front camera or in the app (emergency call numbers, how long you want the looping recording to be set for, video quality/resolution, you can see the recent recordings right in the app etc.) I really like that you can just talk it and operate some useful features all hands free. You can tell it to “Lock video” to have it save the currently recording file permanently - like if you see an accident. At night I usually say “Screen Off” and it turns off the display screen so it’s not bright in the car. Ever see something crazy stopped at a light or while driving? Just say “Take Photo” and it snaps a photo – so easy! It also can even lock the video file automatically if it senses you are in an accident by its g-shock sensor. It can even call an emergency # automatically if you’re in an accident. Only minor issue I had was updating the firmware. It establishes a WiFi mini network connection to the camera so it was a bit tricky to connect to the camera WiFi, disconnect that WiFi to reconnect to the internet, then reconnect to the camera WiFi to upload the firmware update, but that might have been because I was in my garage during the install and also on my home WiFi on my phone, otherwise it probably would have downloaded the update via cellular data and not been an issue. Overall, very impressive for the price.

The Cobra SC 200D is a decent dual dash cam for the price. Many dash cams go around this price for only the front cam. I wanted to like this dash cam, but the setup and a couple of other significant problems made this product a bit of a frustration to set up and use. ===================================== THE SETUP PROCESS: This was probably one of the most tedious tasks I had to do while using this product. Cobra did not make this too easy. The camera is mounted to your windshield with a 3M adhesive. Unfortunately, this may be a problem down the road if you live in extreme weather as this adhesive may wear off quickly. If you need to move the dashcam from vehicle to vehicle, this is not the dashcam you want as this is more of a setup and leave it type of deal. I needed to move this dashcam to a different vehicle, and I had to forcefully pull the camera from my windshield. This ruined the adhesive and I had to use the extra one provided. You only get two for each camera The rear camera is wired so I had to take the wire all through my SUV and find a place on the rear windshield. The rear camera could have been a wireless camera that needs charging occasionally. I think this could have suited this product better. I also had a find a way to manage the long power cable which was another hassle. ===================================== DASHCAM USAGE/QUALITY: The dashcams work extremely well but the buttons under the front cam made this dashcam more of a burden to use. I would’ve preferred a touch screen and some instructions on how to use some of the camera’s features. I had to play around with the buttons for a bit to figure out the way around it and the various adjustable settings. The SD card that comes in the box is a 16GB card. Two hours with both cameras recording was around 14.5GB. This depends on the video quality, I had mine in QHD. I would recommend buying a bigger SD Card or lowering the video quality in the settings. The plus side to this camera was the video resolution. I can assure you will be able to see every license plate and street sign with this camera. The quality is seriously crystal clear. I attached some pictures of my drive for reference. ===================================== DRIVE SMARTER APP: Please note I tested the app on an Android device running Android Pie so the app may work differently for IOS devices or devices running a different version of Android. Upon seeing that this camera was compatible with an app, I was excited to try it out the extra features. I was merely disappointed; the app was simply too much of a hassle where I had to delete it. The app is new and hopefully will have future updates that will fix the many bugs but as of now, the app is too poorly made I successfully got the camera connected the first time. And when I wanted to update the firmware, all I received was a failure to connect the camera message. I then went back to the live view and the whole app bugged out where I could not view the live view of the camera anymore. I also was never able to view my location on the map in the live view. Prepare to have all your battery drained as to connect the camera to the app, I had to have my Wi-Fi, Location, and Bluetooth turned on simultaneously. My battery life was significantly shortened because of this. If you are going to use both, I would recommend having your phone plugged into some external power source. The app is just terrible, I had to delete it and use the camera by itself. ===================================== CONCLUSION: If you are looking for a dual camera that records great video. This camera could be a possibility for you if you are okay with the setup and having a buggy app that drains your battery. I wanted to like this dual camera, but the hassle of the setup, usage, and app made this camera hard to enjoy. While I did enjoy the excellent quality video, I cannot recommend this product unless you want a dual view dashcam that records video and nothing else.

We're sorry you were disappointed with your SC200D.

We have tested our adhesive mount extensively and we can ensure you that it provides a secure bond. Adhesive mounts are generally more secure than suction mounts and will hold up in the harshest conditions.

Also, please note that there are no wireless dash cameras on the market today. A wired rear-camera is a standard industry practice. The cord can be routed discreetly throughout the vehicle and ensures your rear-camera will always have power to record incidents behind you.

We have released updates to the Android app that improve the experience with Live-View and connecting to the camera. We hope you will give it a try.

      Thanks,

The Cobra SC 200D comes packed with a lot of features for the price. It has a 1600p QHD front camera and a 1080p rear. Both cameras provide great video quality, with the front obviously being the better of the two. The rear has a built in swivel mount, making it easy to attach to the rear window with the included adhesive tape. Included is a 16GB micro SD card which will fill up fast if using the highest quality video settings. It’s better than not having one, but I’d recommend grabbing a higher capacity one. It supports up to a 256GB card, personally I’d go 128GB (since they’re so cheap now) but at the minimum a 64GB. The unit offers parking mode like others dash cams, but also motion detection. The unit needs to be hard wired or your vehicle needs to have outlets that stay powered when the ignition is off to use these two features though. It also offers speed alerts, forward collision warning and lane departure warning. Also with the iRadar app, it can alert you to red light cameras, speed cameras, user reported radar and more, through voice announcement. The unit also offers voice commands, this allows you capture a photo or a locked video of an incident while driving. The MayDay feature will auto upload your location and a notice to the emergency contact you create in the event of a severe impact/collision. Setting the unit up was easy, connecting it to the app wasn’t bad either. The app itself is good, and has the potential to be great. The app gives you the ability to change and do a lot of stuff in the app instead of on the dash cam. But, there in lies part of the problem, doing stuff on the app and it actually changing on the dash cam is two different things! I would change numerous settings for the dash cam in the app, only to discover nothing changed. After numerous tries I even reset the dash cam, as i thought maybe it was because of the update I did on it. The issues with the app should easily be resolved with an update to the app, dash cam or both. Overall, it’s an excellent dash cam that offers a lot of features to keep you protected on the road.

Here's my review of the Cobra SC-200D dash cam, two weeks after purchase with daily use under city and highway driving conditions. I was looking for a relatively inexpensive dash cam with a screen and rear facing cam so I could use it for a backup or blind spot cam and settled on the Cobra, despite numerous reviews complaining about the apps but saying the camera was good. Install is fairly straightforward. The cameras attach to the glass with adhesive. If you don't get the placement quite right it is possible to detach the cameras and reposition, by using a small screwdriver to carefully break the bond, I did this with both cameras a few days after a trial setup. Once that's done, you just run and stash the front-to-rear camera cable and the power cable that comes with a power socket plug that also has a USB outlet on it so you can power other items. The rear camera cable is about 16 feet long, it was just long enough for the install in my Tahoe. Once set up, the front camera slides into and out of its windshield mount quite easily, the camera mount has the power cable plugged into it. The rear camera cable, however, plugs directly into the front camera, so if you want to take the cam from the vehicle you must unplug the rear cam. A minor annoyance. The camera is not touchscreen, there is a series of four buttons on its underside that control the functions as they appear on the bottom edge of the screen. There is also an 'emergency record' button on the right side of the camera. There are a great many menu/setup items (6 pages worth!) so it's best to power the cam when off its mount and cycle through all the settings. It will take some time to get accustomed to all the settings, icons and features. Me personally, I like the parking mode, which wakes up the camera if either one detects activity. There are also features like lane departure warning, which I tried but found it to give false alerts especially on wet days. Another great feature of this camera setup is the voice commands, which I use frequently to switch the screen view from front to rear, or vice versa, or take a photo, or just turn the screen off. The apps, well... there are two apps which are associated with the camera. The Drive Smarter app will install a firmware update, gives you a remote way to change settings, and gives access to the files on the SD card. There is also the Cobra iRadar app, and I'll just say this about these apps. The Drive Smarter app works fine, until you try and run the iRadar app, which is basically an inferior attempt at imitating Waze using information from other Cobra radar detector/camera users. I found the iRadar app to really foul up the works when it's paired to the camera. Best to stick with the Drive Smarter app by itself. You do need to have both Bluetooth and WiFi connecting the camera and phone for Drive Smarter to work. Once connected you can see the camera's view, get a GPS map of where you are at the time of connect (the map will not follow as you drive), access to the SD card files (gallery), and go through the menu settings, which worked fine, but I had trouble adjusting the speed display (watermark on the video files) from KPH to MPH, it just kept displaying in KPH unless I used the menu buttons on the camera itself. The camera comes with a 16 GB SD card, or upgrade all the way up to 256 GB. When running both cameras the SD card records both cameras in separate files, a 16 GB stores about a day's worth of video if you leave it running all the time. I upgraded to a 128GB card. Reviewing the video files, if needed, is best done by removing the camera from its mount and plugging into your laptop, or by removing the SD card and using an adapter for direct reading. The video files are 1, 2 or 3 minute video segments depending on your selection. The video quality is very good even if you are not using the QHD setting for the front camera. The field of view is good and details are easily made out. What I especially like about the rear cam is, in my setup the cam is at the top center of the rear glass and in traffic I am usually running the rear camera view on screen and I have great blind spot visibility. Bottom line: It's a great value for a dual camera setup, easy install, lots of features, take time to learn how it all works, great video quality, you need only the Drive Smarter app for initial setup and firmware update and accessing video files, leave iRadar in the trash.

I had a hard time finding a good dash cam that met my requirements: 1. Price range around $200 2. Must have a rear facing Camera with 1080P quality 3. Must have a parking mode with motion sensing 4. App and physical interface 5. SD Card The Cobra SC 200D met my requirements, so I gave it a shot. Things I like: • The price point • Rear facing camera quality is good- better than expected. • Parking mode works well — it will record outside sound if I crack the window. o You will need a Cobra Hardwire kit for this to work o Also, be sure to test the feature. I had a paid install, and the tech. did not install the kit to the right power source. I tested the park mode onsite, and the tech. made the proper adjustments. • I can reposition the camera. The box comes with two extra adhesives. You can easily order more off the internet. • The rear facing (accessory camera) camera can be positioned anywhere it can stick too. Things I do not like: • The Drive Smarter app is only good for getting videos off. Even then, it takes a while to get a video off • The Drive Smarter app drains the heck out of my battery. I have it paused on my phone. I have Pixel 4a 5G. • The Cobra SC 200D creates a local wireless LAN. I would advise turning off the WIFI on the Cobra SC 200D when not using due to bad security. A few things I did that added value. I bought the professional install; it was worth every penny. I bought a 256GB SD card and updated firmware on the camera right away (need the app to do this). I was nervous about buying due to some of the reviews. I saw the Cobra fixed the issue with the camera settings not saving. Overall, I like Cobra SC 200D. All my requirements were met or exceeded.

Nice Dual DashCam Set with some challenges

The Cobra SC400 D is a very nice dashcam set for front and rear dashcams and will work extremely well in sedans. This review will be done in 4 parts – features, installation, usage impressions, and Pros/Cons. Features: The Cobra SC200D Dash Cam is the top of the SC line of Cobra SC Dash Cameras and as such is an extremely well-featured kit. Chief among the features is that this kit comes with both a Front and Rear camera included. The system is capable of multiple resolutions, all at 30 FPS, including 2560x1600 (when using the front camera only), 1920x1080 (default for Dual Camera use), and 1280x720. The system also includes emergency mayday alert, cloud video management, and real-time driver alerts (allows notifications from the driver community – touted as over 100 million shared alerts each year including red light and speed camera locations, sopped zones. Road conditions, and other “relevant notifications to make you a smarter driver”) as additional key features. Also included is hands-free voice control, a 3” LCD Screen, the Drive Smarter App, an included 16 GB SD Card (the system can support up to a 256 GB card). The feature set is rounded out with the following features: - Safety and Security – Parking Mode and Motion Sensing Mode. - Advanced Driver Assistance – Lane departure and forward-collision warnings. - Extreme Temperature protection – the camera capacitor technology allows this camera set to withstand both frigid cold and intense heat. - Dual-Band Wi-Fi to allow the most reliable connection to enable software updates, cloud management, and alerts. The Drive Smarter® app loaded to your phone is this camera’s gateway to real-time driver alerts, advanced safety, and security features, and to the community. The application is available in the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. The app used about 70 MB of space for its installation. Installation Installation of this system is straightforward, as such the installation guidance provide don this quick start card is limited. The full manual is available as a download and provides more complete guidance. The included power cable is oriented for use with the vehicle’s power port (aka the cigarette lighter). A hardwire kit is available from the vendor as an optional accessory ($30). This option allows for a more permanent and discrete installation and can also allow for recording while the vehicle is powered off. One thing to remember for this kit is that the rear camera is connected to the front camera via an included extension cable and as such it must be run from the front of the vehicle to the rear of the vehicle. This wired connection makes this kit most suitable for sedan style vehicles without a rear lifting door. While it could be used with the lifting door vehicles, you would have to find a way to get the cable to the window on the door and still be able to be connected. One item that would have been a nice addition here is to include a tool to help one tuck the cable into vehicle panels to help hide the cables. Both cameras in this kit have an adhesive mount option as the sole mounting options – a suction cup option would have been a nice addition. Unfortunately, the kit includes one set of spare adhesive stirps in case one needs to move the camera to another vehicle or needs to remount the unit. Usage Impressions The cameras are nice and record great video. And when using both cameras the display defaults to a Picture-in-Picture (PIP) viewing mode. You can see this view at this link: https://youtu.be/RNEPjWvePSg, each of the images has basic telemetry data including Date, time, longitude, latitude, and speed included on the video. The Drive smarter™ software is nice and offers a lot of features (see accompanying images). I was however not able to get my Android phone to connect in a live view mode. I looked online for assistance the instructions they provided prevent me from getting to the camera at all – so that was not a good experience. Overall, despite some of the issues noted above, I would give this camera set a 4/5 rating. This rating would drop to a 3 if the Android issues cannot be overcome with more time. It would also be nice to see Cobra offer this same camera with the interior cabin facing camera as a kit. Pros: Features, rear camera inclusion, Motion-sensing features. Cons: Only works with specific vehicles, Android issues with Drive Smarter™ software, lack of a suction cup mounting option being included.

I did a bunch of shopping and compared a bunch of different dashcams before I settled on getting this Cobra model. As a whole, this is the best all arounder. The front and rear picture quality is good. The sound quality is good. Finding hiding places for the cable isn't hard and someone who isn't handy can do a clean install in probably 30 minutes or less. There's plenty of cable to go around for a midsize sedan. Same can be said for SUVs, probably. This was one of the few dashcams that offered both front and rear cams, sound, gps location, speed, and time/date timestamp. It can also respond to voice commands but every now and then the camera will make a mistake and pick up words as voice commands if you're having a conversation in the car. One thing to be wary of is that modern car electronics will try to communicate with the camera upon starting if the camera is connected via usb. This ended up bricking my camera and corrupted the camera's firmware. Cobra was gracious enough to replace the camera free of charge since it was still under warranty. If you plan on using USB to power the camera, you'll probably want to disconnect it before starting your car and then manually reconnecting it after startup. Or just hook it up to the cigarette lighter. If your car has start/stop it could be an issue trying to get a constant 12v since it'll boot up each time. Make sure you can find a power source that's constant despite your car's start/stop feature. The camera does have a parking surveillance feature, but since the data is stored locally and you need a constant 12v supply when the car's off, it's not practical since the camera can be stolen, and I don't think there's any way to have the video saved over-the-air. So really, this cam is strictly for driving. Another minor issue is that if you plan on taking the cam out and putting it in your pocket, it's easy for your phone to bump into the power button and the camera will try to power on (camera has reserve power for startup and settings maybe?). If this happens enough times I think this could cause some firmware issues as well but it's just a hunch I have. Lastly, and least important, I love the Cobra logo on the recordings. It's a pretty cool touch and nice to see a brand still sticking around after all these years. You can turn this feature off if you don't want it.

This Cobra SC200D is an awesome dashcam and does a great job of picking up vehicles and signs while driving. The most dominant feature is the front view 1600p resolution camera, capturing a ton of details. The 140° angle of view of the front camera is perfect; it captures the view of your vehicle's left and right side. Also, the front camera nighttime performance recording is enhanced, allowing images to be seen more clearly. This is possible since the device has a high resolution and an excellent image sensor to process images in low light settings properly. A dashcam is definitely worth the investment, can be used as evidence and insurance claims. For this reason, you want something that can capture quality video during both daytime and nighttime driving. The installation of the dashcam on my vehicle was straightforward. Both rearview data cable and power cable are long enough to run on the car's sides and out of view. Note that both cameras swivel up and down but not side to side, so make sure it is placed in the center of the windshield and aligned horizontally. The kit includes two additional adhesives, just in case you need to move the mount to a new location. After completing the installation and the camera is turned on for the first time, I recommend connecting it with the free Drive Smarter App so the dashcam could have the latest firmware and features. The dash came is perfect by itself, and with both the Drive Smarter and iRadar apps, it enhances the experience. The first app allows for firmware updates, cloud video management, live-view while driving, and an emergency feature. The emergency features are optional; it will contain your emergency contact person, insurance information, and optional personal information such as the blood type, known allergies, and medications. Not sure if EMS personnel would use this info, but at least it is nice to have. When activated, the iRadar enables the camera to receive real-time alerts about what is ahead on the road. I even get alerts of air patrols on some highways. This device and its apps have more features that would turn this review into an essay. In conclusion, the dashcam and its video quality recording in itself are perfect. As a bonus, the two apps enhance the overall driving experience.
