For the last week, I've been testing the new Cobra SC220C QHD Dual Dashcam. Overall, I think this is a great option for your next dashcam. The box includes the dashcam with a pre-installed 16GB Micro SD card, a 12V to USB-C charger, a USB-A to USB-C data cable, a tucking tool, three adhesive wire ties, and an extra adhesive mounting strip. Installation was straightforward. Simply remove the adhesive strip, place it on the windshield, position the camera (which swivels), route the cable around the windshield, and plug it in. Setting up the camera was also easy. It features four touchpoints on the bottom of the screen for navigating the simple user interface. Additionally, a record button on the side allows for manual activation of the camera's recording feature. While it lacks a touchscreen, which isn't a major drawback but something to note, it's still user-friendly. Regarding performance, the dashcam excels. The QHD wide-angle sensor in the front captures extremely clear video, even capturing legible license plates in both day and night conditions. The interior-facing camera, although only HD, is sufficient for Uber drivers seeking added safety. Faces are clearly visible in both day and night. The LED screen is a decent size and becomes bright enough for viewing in daylight. Several unique features set this dashcam apart. Its compatibility with the Drive Smarter app allows for modifying settings and receiving alerts from other users, such as red light cameras, speed cameras, and user-reported radar detections. However, for reliable radar detection, I recommend using a dedicated radar detector due to frequent false reporting by users. On the downside, while I appreciate Cobra's switch to a USB-C connector, it's unfortunate that it cannot be powered by my car's USB ports. Additionally, at my workplace, dashcams are prohibited for security reasons, and the SC220C is not easily removable. It will remove if you slide it to the right. But, the pressure required will quickly wear out the adhesive strip. Overall, I believe the Cobra SC220C is an excellent choice for anyone who works for Uber or simply desires the added protection that a dashcam provides.

I have been spending some time with dash cam and try to test out all the features. I had an older version of their dash cam from cobra and this is definitely an upgrade. The quality is what you would expect for a dash cam pretty decent, but not 4K or anything. That being said, the cam is good as well as the inside facing one. For those on the fence about an inside facing one it’s good to have, but also you are able to disable it if it’s not your speed. Screen is very nice on it so it makes it easy to see what it’s recording versus the tinier screen you usually get on other devices. Speaking of the screen you are able to use the drive smarter app and have the screen become a GPS. It will display the next turn and how many miles/feet till it happens. A pretty cool little feature. With the drive smarter app you can change settings as well as easily transfer videos from the device onto to your phone. You are also easily able to watch videos direct the videos directly on the the camera which is a very nice feature to have to you don’t have to go to your computer and download them off the micro SD card that is included. Btw be careful with the SD card when removing it will shoot out. And I mean launch if you aren’t holding it. This camera is great. It’s packed with a lot of features and is a great addition to any vehicle in this day and age with those crazy drivers.

The Cobra SC 220 QHD dual view camera is an excellent choice if you're in the market for a dual view dash cam. I jumped at the opportunity to try this dash cam out since my daughter had just got her license. She inherited my 2008 Ram 1500 Big Horn. Let me tell you that setting this dual view camera up in that truck was super easy. It comes with everything you need, plus a few extra double sided tape in case you decide to move it to another car/truck. The cab is small enough that the cabin view also gets a great view of the back window, so she gets excellent front and rear visual protection. In the truck, I had a couple options how to power the SC 220. Meaning I could have it powered on all the time, or I could have it power on when the truck is in running. I opted for the powered on while the truck is running, especially because she doesn't drive that much and I didn't want the camera drawing power when not in use. The SC 220 also has access to the Drive Smarter app. The app is mainly a GPS, but gives you "360 Alerts", which are radar speed, and red light cameras. It will allow you to update firmware. You also have access to cloud video management as well as the onboard videos that are stored on the included 32GB micro SD card. You get a lot in this one package. I just hope there is no reason to have to review any videos, but I'm happy it's there just in case.

The Cobra SC220C QHD Dual View Dash Cam may have a complex name, but it's easy to use. In the box - Cobra SC220C QHD Dash Cam - 12v adapter with USB C (and pass through USB A port) - short USB A to USB C cable (for PC transfers) - spudger/cable tool to help hide the cable - 6 wire clips - microSD card (16GB, Western Digital Brand) - spare 3M mounting tape INSTALLATION / SETUP Setup/Installation is two parts, one is installing in your car and then installing the free "Drive Smarter" app. on you phone. CAR INSTALLATION Every person will have their own preference of what is acceptable for cable runs. It took me about an hour to get the included 12V USB cable run the way I liked. Cobra includes a spudger tool for helping you press the cable behind panels (my car is 2016 Jeep). There was plenty of cable run for me and I used all of the 6 included cable clips to hide most of the cable. My recommendation is take your time and get this in an optimal position. It's good that the Cobra Dash Cam has the USB C power on the right hand side - so the cable runs are via the passenger side of the car. Mounting the camera itself, it secures with 3M tape (included) and there are included static clings for temporary mounting. I'm not sure why you would want the temporary mount, as the Cobra Dashcam has a mount that it can slide on/off. Both the road facing and passenger facing cameras have tilt adjust - so once the camera is mounted you can get the camera angle perfect. Overall experience. I love that the 12V power adapter has a USB A pass through, so you can still charge your phone with the 12V in use. DASHCAM USE / RECORDING It takes a bit of getting use to but the screen is not a touchscreen, it has dynamic hot buttons on the lower part of the screen. It takes a bit of adjustment after years of using touchscreens. The Cobra Dashcam is mostly user friendly, but PRO TIP, keep scrolling right on some icons or down on some menus as there are extra screens and features that are not immediately obvious (like enabling over speed limit alerts, or custom watermarks on the video). Worth noting that the camera has a privacy mode - not something I need, but if you are an Uber/Lyft driver this may be something you're looking for (or maybe you have private phone conversations you don't want recorded haha!). VIDEO QUALITY The video quality is QHD for the road but worth knowing passenger view is 1080p. I transferred the video by removing the microSD card (easy to do while mounted). The SD card creates folders for the front and second (passenger) camera. The default watermarks include data, time, speed and GPS coordinates. It's good for QHD quality. Video format is MP4 - which is supported as standard on Windows/MacOS. This also means the videos are easy to upload to YouTube, etc. should you need to share them publicly. DRIVE SMARTER APP (Worth it!) The (Free) Drive Smarter App really helps the Cobra Dash Cam become AMAZING! It pairs via Bluetooth. It's easy to setup (name, email, password) and PRO TIP don't panic if you miss the QR code on first power on - the QR code is just a shortcut to the app store, it's not needed for pairing. Pairing was quick and the Cobra quickly re-paired when I powered the unit on/off. I have an older car, without Android Auto or CarPlay and the screen of the Cobra Dash Cam becomes 100x more useful - large navigation prompts, warnings if you're over the speed limit (again, you can customize or turn off if you prefer) and makes the Cobra more than just a Dash Cam. I'm not sure what the app uses for maps or navigation, but in a few test routes on trips where I know the way - the directions were accurate and not like the random backstreets you get in Waze. OVERALL I really like the COBRA SC220C. It's a nice upgrade for me on my older car, especially with the Drive Smarter App. I knocked off a star because it's not a touchsreen (but Cobra do have touchscreen models - so you can pay for the privilege) and the Camera UI is good not great. There clearly has been a lot of though put into the installation (love the included spudger and pass through 12V charger). If you want a dash cam for peace of mind, or you are an Uber/Lyft driver - this is good value addition to any car.

The Cobra SC220C is a great dash cam, but the companion app’s software can use some improvements. The SC220C has plenty of features that make this a great quality dash cam. For starters, the unit has both a front camera and an interior camera built in. This is a great feature that offers added security, especial for Lift or Uber drivers. The interior camera is manually adjustable so you can position it to your liking, you also have the option to disable the camera if you choose. The unit includes a 16gb micro-SD card, which provides plenty of storage to capture your clips. The dashcam has a companion app called Drive Smarter; this app lets you unlock your dashcam to it full potential. From the app, you can access your video clips, set recording lengths, get notifications from traffic alerts, and its all done wirelessly. The app even has its own built-in navigation map. Installing the dash cam is very straight forward, the box comes with some tools to help pry open your interior for cable management. It also comes with some temporary sticky pads, so you can easily remove it when or if you need to. The Screen has a good resolution and offers a big enough view to be able to activate both the outer and interior view in the same window. When using the Drive Smarter app’s navigation, the screen displays your next turn with an onscreen arrow. As far as the navigation app goes, I don’t like to use it as it tends to be laggy at times. Plus, there is no Apple watch compatibility. Overall, I really like the Cobra SC220C dashcam. The image quality of the video is crystal clear, and I love the option to push the side button to save and lock the current video. The Drive Smarter app has some nice features, but with lack of apple watch support and some lag from time to time, I would rather stick with apple maps. The additional interior camera is a great benefit especially if you drive for a side gig. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a new dashcam.

I got the Cobra SC 220 dual-view dash Cam last week as an upgrade to an older generic brand dash-cam and was able to install it rather easily in the Toyota RAV4 family SUV. The DC power cable provided was long enough to route around the windshield and dash. The adhesive pad it came with holds strongly and the temporary sticky film was a nice touch that helps you find the right spot before permanently installing it. This is a QHD 2K camera capable of recording smooth videos from both cameras. I prefer the highest quality available, but be warned it will take up a lot more storage space. Either way, the video quality is very good and is standard MP4 format, so you can view it on the built-in 3” LCD screen or any modern device you download it to. The camera pairs with smartphones via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for additional features and Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. GPS is also built-in and will provide the coordinates and the speed you’re traveling. Cobra includes a modest 16 GB U3 microSDHC memory card for that will get you started, but if you want to retain weeks of video, you’ll have to upgrade to a larger microSD card. The video clips are automatically saved in 1-minute increments and will prune the oldest ones to make room for new content. All settings can be changed from the Cobra Drive Smarter App. A somewhat unique feature that sets this camera apart from other basic dash cams is the dual front and interior-facing cameras built-in to the same enclosure. It is not a true rear-camera, but depending on how big your cabin is or how unobstructed your rear windshield is, it could actually capture some of the action behind your car. They don’t claim that’s the intended function though, it’s more to document your trips/memories or perhaps monitor your kids in the back seat, or for ride-share drivers, or if you have the camera recording 24x7 and your car gets broken into. There is also Automatic Incident Detection aided by the G-shock sensor and police/traffic cam alerts provided by the App from crowd-sourcing information. Overall this is a well-built dash-cam at a reasonable price from a reputable manufacturer that stands behind their products.

Cobra has always had some of the best products around! They’ve been in the game a long time. The SC220 is nothing short of a great dual view dash cam! Set up was very easy and straight froward. I placed this dash cam directly under my rear view mirror with the included 3m tape and it has been solid. I did not use the included 12v cigarette lighter plug as the fuse is burnt out for that. I did take a single cable and connect it straight to one of my USB ports in my dash and it works great. The SC220 boots up within seconds of turning the car on. Also connecting it this way I do not have the ability to record once the car is off. Once you download the drive smarter app there was an immediate update to the SC220 which took a couple of minutes but went flawlessly. A plethora of settings both on the SC220 and within the Drive Smarter app. This app connects you to either android Auto or Apple car play. I really dont use this feature as I have discovered that the software uses MapBox for navigation instead of say Google Maps or Apple Maps and honestly it’s really not good at all. I wish they would have somehow integrated Google Maps. Then this product would be flawless. I ride share from time to time and the interior camera with night vision is a game changer. It’s 1080p and great quality video and audio. The front facing camera is 1440p and the recorded videos look crisp and clear on the included 16gb sdcard. This will come in handy in case of an accident or some other incident (road rage). This is my first DashCam so I have nothing to compare it too. But imo I believe this to be worth the price.

This dual dash cam features both a front camera and a cockpit camera, making it ideal for rideshare drivers or parents who want to monitor their children. The installation is either permanent, using an adhesive sticker, or semi-permanent with an electrostatic film—both of which are more reliable than a suction cup, which often falls off during extreme temperatures. The accompanying app is well-designed, allowing users to configure the camera, update firmware, and access both cameras remotely via Bluetooth. However, one drawback is that all users must share the same username and login, rather than each household member having their own account. The app also initially required removing the camera from other users' apps, but it eventually started working without this step. So, your experience may vary if you plan to use the camera with multiple people or phones. The desktop app, Drive HD Dash Cam Player, is impressively full-featured, almost functioning as a complete video editor. It allows you to combine and cut clips, capture screenshots, and link and play footage from both the front and rear cameras simultaneously. However, one issue is the lack of route map visibility associated with the video files. On the 220C, the route data is stored in a .map file, but there’s no way to access this data via the player, unlike other dash cams that embed this information directly into the video file. Regarding quality, the rear cockpit camera records at 1920x1080, while the front camera captures at 2560x1440. A significant concern is that license plates are not readable from more than 10-15 feet away, meaning you must be very close to another vehicle to capture its plate clearly. In comparison, my other dash cam with higher resolution shows a noticeable quality improvement, with license plates clearly visible up to 45-50 feet away. Given the quality of the apps and software, I would recommend opting for the higher-end 4K model. While the footage from this model is sufficient for insurance and legal purposes, the higher resolution would be much more useful.

The **Cobra SC 220C QHD Dual-View Front & Cabin Dash Cam** offers a robust solution for anyone seeking enhanced driving safety and comprehensive recording capabilities. This dash cam is ideal for rideshare drivers, road-trip enthusiasts, and safety-conscious commuters. It delivers on several fronts, including video quality, dual-view functionality, and ease of use, making it a standout option in its category. **Video Quality** One of the most impressive aspects of the Cobra SC 220C is its video quality. The camera records in QHD (1440p) resolution, providing clear, detailed footage of the road ahead and the vehicle's interior. This clarity is particularly useful for capturing essential details like license plates, road signs, and even facial expressions inside the car. The dual-view functionality, which records both the front and the cabin, is a significant advantage for rideshare drivers or anyone needing to document interactions within the vehicle. **Design and Build** The camera's design is sleek and unobtrusive, easily mounting on your windshield without obstructing your view. The build quality feels durable, giving the impression that it can withstand the rigors of daily use. The compact form factor ensures it doesn't draw unnecessary attention, an essential feature for a device that should blend into the background while you drive. **User Interface and Features** Cobra has made the SC 220C remarkably user-friendly. The setup is straightforward, with intuitive menus and a responsive touchscreen. The camera also comes with built-in Wi-Fi, allowing easy access to footage via a smartphone app. This feature is convenient for quickly reviewing or sharing video clips without removing the SD card. Additionally, the camera supports voice commands, enabling hands-free operation for added safety. **Night Vision and Additional Features** Night vision is another area where the SC 220C excels. Thanks to its advanced sensors and wide dynamic range (WDR) technology, the camera captures clear and well-lit footage even in low-light conditions. The infrared cabin camera is particularly effective in dark environments, making it possible to record the vehicle's interior during nighttime drives. Other notable features include loop recording, G-sensor technology for automatic recording during collisions, and a parking mode that monitors your vehicle when you're not around. **Performance and Reliability** In terms of performance, the SC 220C is reliable and consistent. The footage is smooth, with minimal lag or dropped frames. The camera's wide-angle lens covers a broad area, ensuring that critical events are captured even at the edges of the frame. The device also performs well in different weather conditions, maintaining video quality regardless of the environment. **Conclusion** Overall, the Cobra SC 220C QHD Dual-View Front & Cabin Dash Cam is a comprehensive and well-rounded option for those looking to enhance their driving safety. Its high-quality video, dual-view capability, and user-friendly design make it a valuable investment for any driver. Whether you're a professional driver needing to document your journeys or a regular commuter looking for extra security, this dash cam is a solid choice that won't disappoint.

The Cobra SC 220C QHD Dual-View Front & Cabin dash cam offers a well-rounded solution for drivers seeking both security and clarity on the road. The dual-view capability is its standout feature, recording both the front of the vehicle in crisp QHD (1440p) and the cabin in HD (1080p), making it ideal for rideshare drivers or anyone wanting comprehensive coverage. The video quality is excellent, with clear daytime footage and respectable night vision, ensuring that details are captured in various lighting conditions. The 3-inch LCD screen is easy to navigate, and the device comes with built-in Wi-Fi, allowing for seamless video transfers to a smartphone via the Cobra iRadar app. The app integration is a strong point, enabling users to quickly review, save, or share clips. However, while the camera is feature-rich, the installation can be somewhat tricky due to the size and dual-camera setup. Additionally, some users may find the app a bit slow or cumbersome, particularly when downloading large files. Despite these minor drawbacks, the SC 220C is a reliable and feature-packed dash cam, offering solid performance and peace of mind on the road.

I have tried a few other dash cams. This Cobra SC 220 Quad HD cam is by far the easiest to install. It plugs into the cigarette lighter, easy! Yes, the power cord hangs down but you get used to it and don’t notice it after a little bit. Included are easy to install clips to coral the cord. The cam has a small footprint but records a wide image. The cam doesn’t have a touchscreen so when going through setup on the cam use the buttons below the item on the screen you want to select. What I truly love is that it is delivered with Temporary Install / Electrostatic Film pieces, three of them. It just so happens I have a rental car for a few weeks. The easy install and the electrostatic films allow me to use the dash cam in the rental. The video image is excellent. Not only is it recording what is happening in front of the car the picture in picture has a clear image of what is happening in the back of the car. Another thing I really like is that it plugs into the cigarette lighter, but it still allows you to plug in a USB cable to charge your phone. The application is easy to install. There are several available when searching on “Drive Smarter” so I recommend using the QR code to get to the correct app.

Cobra SC 220C Dual View Front/Cabin Dash Camera

The Cobra SC 220C Dash Camera allows for recording of the roadway in front of you and the inside cabin of the vehicle. Both cameras are adjustable to get just the right area. Set up is completed by following on-screen prompts. When you complete the initial set-up, you will be asked to scan and download the Drive Smarter application on your device. This application allows your phone to connect to the features offered by the application. Keep in mind that both the phone and the dash camera must be on the same network to work. The box contains the dash camera, vehicle power cord, USB-C data cable, a 16 GB Micro SD Card, slide out mount with glue strip, 6 wire clips and cable routing tool, and 3 Electrostatic films for temporary mounting to the windshield. I have used the dash camera for 9 days now. I did not have any problems with the unit working as advertised. I did have a problem with the glue strip in the slide out mount softening up in the heat of the day. It appeared that the glue was melting and running down the windshield. Overall if you need to monitor the inside of the vehicle this is an exceptional choice. I could see an Uber or Lyft driver needing one of these in their vehicle.

Great for navigation, but lacking in other areas

There are pros and cons to this camera. I really like the static cling films for the windshield to help find the perfect mounting point. They hold surprisingly well. Some people have said they have used them for two years without any issues, even though they are supposed to just be temporary. Setup with the app was simple to pair the camera with both my phone and my vehicle’s hotspot. The screen is relatively large, and the directions for navigation are easy to read as long as I am not wearing sunglasses. My polarized sunglasses block out 90% of the light coming from the screen, making it pretty much impossible to read in daylight. I really like the navigation integration with my vehicle. The map and route are on my vehicle’s screen, while the turn-by-turn directions appear on the dashcam screen. It is a great setup, so the directions are visible at eye level without having to look down at a screen. In the meantime, the voice comes through my vehicle speakers. When it comes to the camera function itself, I am not impressed. I hate to say it, but I have a seven-year-old camera with better video and audio quality. I also have a four-year-old Cobra radar detector with a built-in dashcam that has better image and audio quality. It serves its purpose as a dashcam to record events, but I have seen better quality, even from this same brand. The one perk of this camera vs older models is it has both forward and rear facing cameras. I like having the view out the back window in the event that someone hits me from behind. It took some time searching for answers on the internet to figure out how to get my phone to properly connect to the camera’s gallery. I kept getting error messages. Eventually, I learned that because my phone and the camera are both connected to my vehicle, I have to tell my vehicle to disconnect from my phone. Then I am able to connect to the camera’s gallery. From there, I am able to download videos from the camera to my phone’s photo album. Even though I told the app to upload videos to the cloud, and I have set the camera to automatically upload locked/important videos to the cloud via my vehicle’s WiFi, none have uploaded. I receive a message stating that the upload was successful, but nothing shows up online. The website sees my camera but says no videos or photos have been uploaded. I would really like to have the camera hardwired into my vehicle to have a clean setup, but the hardwire kit is not available yet. It is important to note that this camera uses USB-C, not micro-USB. Even though the micro-USB kit says it is compatible with SC series cameras, it is not compatible with these new cameras. I spoke to customer service and they expect the cable to be released soon, but the date gets pushed back each time I call. I asked if I could use an adapter to convert micro to USB-C, but they said it would be best to just wait for the new cable. Besides having a cleaner install, the cable provides parking mode where the camera will detect vibration and turn on to record an event, such as someone hitting the vehicle while it is parked. If a person wants to use the navigation features and they do not wear polarized sunglasses, this camera could be a great addition to a vehicle. If they do not plan on using the navigation features, I am not currently a fan of this model. Despite completing software updates during installation, it seems like there are still bugs to be worked out. I really hope some additional updates will turn this into a better functioning camera with easier access to their cloud.

The setup of this was pretty easy. Unbox, install an app and setup an account. Then you connect to the camera and your up and running. After the initial connection I was prompted with a firmware update and I proceeded. It took about 5 min. The physical installation was pretty decent but I was not able to get the cord to reach my charger spot in my car since the location is behind the front seat. That is not the product’s fault but mine since my front is not working. I just got an extender cable to make this work. They do provide clips and a tool to hide the cable as much as you can given this is not professionally installed. In use I found the built in Carplay app Drive Smarter pretty useful for navigation, but it gave me my next turns in “Feet” vs “in miles. For example, it would say 2,640 feet remaining vs .5 miles. The latter is how I am already familiar with other navigation app’s. I was not able to find a way to change it. I do like the upcoming turns that it showed me on the back display which is easier to see vs my built-in infotainment. Now after all this is working, I found the footage to be motion based recording and very clear. The camera that faces back into the cabin shows everything inside including all sounds. I found it to be very detailed and accurate in the sounds it picks up. As for the external footage. It is really clear and you can zoom in since there is better than HD quality to see something like a license plate or other details on the road. My use ended up just being that I ignore that it is there and I could go back and grab footage should something happen which is nice to have. I assume the main point of this device. I was not provided with any laser warnings for speed so unfortunately that is not something I experienced. Accessing the footage. There is an SD card in the unit but if you need to access anything you can use the app and look thru your gallery. There are options to upload to cloud or save to your phone. This part was very user friendly. In summary I like the concept, but I did not feel like the Radar detector and app were useful. Also, I wish there was an option to order with a rear camera for a more complete setup. I still cannot get over the remaining feet with the navigation vs miles remaining. Also, the speed limit reported that I had turn on to warn me if I went above 10mph over was way wrong. It said on one road that the limit was 45 but actually it went down to 40 and then 35. No change on the app. If I trusted that I could end up with a speeding ticket so like I said I would just use this product without the app.
