    EXCELLENT value, good performance

I really didn't need to buy this, but at $179, I couldn't resist. There is nothing that even comes close to comparing to this netbook for the money. People shouldn't complain about much of anything on a computer at this price point, it is unheard of! Battery life is good for me, a little over 3 hours (AGAIN, see price). I wrote cons as glossy finish because I hate the fingerprint magnets that laptops today have become. Anyhow, this thing is loaded with features, and for a great price. If the 3 hour battery life concerns you, buy a 6 cell battery for it and STILL be cheaper than everything else. Compaq / HP make good quality product from my experience. I should have bought 2.

    Excellent Budget Netbook

    Posted .

This Compaq netbook is a truly great computer! Although naturally slower than most laptops, this netbook can still serve basic computer uses incredibly well. While on such a topic, the main thing to keep in mind with this computer is to keep your expectations realistic. It is designed to be highly mobile and handle basic tasks such as web browsing, word processing, and playing music (although it also does a pretty good job at playing movies/video as well!). And these are basically the only things I have used it for, and thusfar my experience has been excellent. I have been using this computer for about 2 months now and it runs great. Start up is very quick and I have not had any problems with this computer. My review of several specific components of this computer: Screen: Overall, I am pleased with the screen. It provides a great level of brightness, has a good viewing angle, and is easy to read from despite the lower resolution. It seems a bit "grainy" at times though because it is not glossy, however the glossy screens can also cause alot of glare so not having to worry about glare issues it a huge plus. Keyboard: The keyboard is truly excellent. Great size and has all the major functionality you need for basic computing. Thankfully there is a full sized Shift key, something many netbooks miniturize to save on space. A row of very handy function keys are present on the keyboard and can be used for such things as changing the volume, adjusting brightness, locking the computer, and putting the computer to sleep. I found the keyboard very easy to adjust to and was proficient with it very quickly, this review was written using this computer! Audio & Video: This computer has a very basic integrated video card and basic, and likely microscopic, speakers. Therefore, although the audio and video capabilities are quite suitable, they are certainly not extraordinary. As before, keep in mind it's a netbook and you'll likely be quite satisfied. However, I have watched videos and movies through Netflix on this computer and found the experience great, although the video quality is lower than on a more powerful laptop. Finally, I'm happy this computer at least does have speakers, but I generally simply choose to use headphones. The speakers sound alright, but nothing gives better audio than a set of serious headphones. Battery: This computer comes with a standard 3-cell battery which may sound small to some, but is great for my uses and I really like that it fits perfectly with the computer and does not "jut-out" or protrude from the computer. The battery life is also great. I am usually to get at least two hours out of the battery, but generally even more. However, watching video or movies greatly decreases the battery life. I am very satisfied with the battery performance. Finally, Overall performance: This is a very nice netbook! Although the processor and overall speed is a bit lower than you are likely used to, it really isn't very noticeable. Or if it is noticeable, it is very easy to adjust to. I have thusfar used this computer pretty much only for word processing, browsing the web, playing very basic videogames, watching movies, and listening to music. For these tasks and some others, this is a great computer. I have never had any speed or compatibility issues. This computer is truly a great companion that I love to bring everywhere. Some people may be worried about the low cost of this laptop and the brand (Compaq), and I can agree I certainly was aswell. But this is truly an amazing value and amazing computer. For what I paid, I couldn't imagine a much better deal. This computer looks great cosmetically and performs excellently. If looking for a well-rounded and reliable netbook, please consider this one! Important Note: This review was done with Windows 7 Starter as the operating system, NOT the included Windows XP. I Highly suggest upgrading to Windows 7 or purchasing the model that includes Windows 7 Starter, your experience will likely be incredibly better! Thanks for reading, I hope this review helps!

    Great Netbook

    Posted .

I had problem after about 2 to 3 days with lockup after about 15 minutes of inactivities and must be reboot. Very annoying. I was ready to return it to the store. But I gave it a chance and contacted the HP Tech Support. They were the best experience I had. They answered the phone within less than 10 rings, very patient, even call back to make sure everything was OK. They walked me through some driver updates and now everything works great. My daughter brought an Asus netbook for about $400 and it had so much problems. Reaching Asus customer service was impossible, you wait for over 1/2 hr and finally someone pickup phone and all he did was to spend about 10 minutes asking for your name, phone number, s/n of unit, etc. Then he said someone will contact you within 24 hours. I never got to talk to any body at Asus. The HP customer service was the complete opposite, I was very impressed. I decided to keep my Compaq netbook after the initial freezing problem was resolved. I like the Compaq on everything. Most noticeably is the larger keys on the keyboard compared to the Asus or the Acer. Also, the shift key on the right side is the same large size as the left one. This is a big advantage for me because I like to use my right pinky for the shift key. For the Asus and Acer, the right shift is is much smaller as they tried to squeeze some other keys into that same corner so you end up paging down instead of hitting the shift key. The Compaq netbook runs very quietly. Turns on fast and access the internet pretty fast. I paid $180 for mine which is a great price. On a side by side comparison, I like my Compaq netbook better than my daughter's $400 Asus netbook. HP did a great job with their customer service which really helped me in changing my initial negative impression of my Compaq to extremely pleased.

    As good as the rest

    Posted .

Just picked up this computer today for my wife. She wanted a small, light computer she could use to surf, IM & do word processing. After losing out on other web sites while trying to purchace a different model (Acer) and getting depressed, I stumbled across this model. The price of $179 was the first thing that got my attention. Then I looked at the specs - very familiar, same as all the other more expensive models. Then I purchased it online without any problem and went to the store to pick it up. I tried it as soon as I got to the car. I found Optimum wireless and connected without a hitch since I already have an account. I logged in and surfed the web for a couple minutes to prove to myself that this was as good as the others. Once I got it home, I tried the web cam, which works as expected for a 1 mp camera. Battery life could be better, but 2 1/2 - 3 hrs is still decent For the price you can't go wrong.

    Good For Price

    Posted .

I really like this netbook, i got it this morning for black friday after waiting like 22 hours in the rain, but it was worth it. i got this netbook for around 180 which is a great deal compared to othernetbooks selling at around 240, so its a good price for it. The look of the netbook is great to a nice sleek black and it just looks great overall. Windows xp comes preinstalled with a bunch of useless stuff tagging along as usual like Norton internet security, so i removed that and put avast! on it. i do recommend installing ubuntu on it for a even quicker boot up and possibly a SSD down the road, but overall its a great netbook for the price BLACK FRIDAY ROCKS! (20inch HD monitor, Netbook, HP Laptop)-$400

I slept in on Black Friday

I needed two for my daughters so I didn't even bother waiting in line for the laptop deals as they are one per customer. I placed two seperate orders as these are one per customer as well but per purchase. I can't believe they haven't sold out yet. Every other site that had a 10.1" for under $200 sold out instantly. I had hoped to purchase a pink and green netbook but they were anywhere from $289-$325 (and up ) if you could find them. No worries in the follow up e mail from BB listing accessories I found skinit. You can have a skin printed for your netbook or have one custom made from one of your own pictures. Buy it through BB and save $ as they must have a deal with skinit, their web suite was consistantly at least $10 higher. Most of the ones listed through BB were $19.95. As someone said earlier this is the same as the HP1101 (skinit doesn't list this compaq by their model #) As far as I can tell netbooks don't come with an optical drive (even thoguh it's listed as an option not installed) as there simply isn't enough room but you can purchase an external one for $30-$40.

    Nice Netbook

I just got my Netbook this morning on Black Friday. Great price and I was set up quickly with spy-ware. I took it right out of the box, punched in my router code and good to go, surfing the internet wireless. I think the speed is sufficient for what I need, since I teach college courses on-line. Great buy.

    Can't believe the price!

    Posted .

I bought this before working black friday because I wanted something that I could take with me wherever my family and I go, without having our MacBook and MacBook Pro. We needed something that we could use to get online but we didn't want to bring our Mac laptops with us. If we need them, we just login to our MobileMe accounts. I work for BB and these netbooks are great! They're a No-Brainer for anyone in the market for one of these! I got the Standard Security & Performance along with mine, and it's great! It's "PC quick", and all those stupid trial verisons are gone. Plus the firewall was configured and anti-virus installed and running! The only downside, there's no HDMI ouput like on some others and the battery life is only decent. Wish it was 9Hrs like some of the others in my store. But overall, it's a pretty good netbook!!

    Great for the Price

    Posted .

Wanted a netbook and realized that they are all pretty much the same around $300-350. Found this one and bought for my neighbor for Christmas. I opened the box and set up her internet and found it extremely user friendly. I turned around and bought one for myself even though HP and Compaqs are notoriously bad on their longevity in my experience. I bought this following the end of my third HP computer that lost its life immediately following the warranty expiration date. The only reason I gave it a chance is because it cost less than $200 and it doesn't matter if it has a poor life span. For all the features, windows 7 starter, 5 in one media card, the only thing I would change is to replace the 1gb card to 2gb, but i would do this with any netbook. I am using it for my primary computer and it runs my microsoft products fine.

    Great buy!

I picked the Compaq Mini 110 on black friday morning and am quite pleased with it so far. If your researching about whether to buy this netbook or not, Something to note is that this is really just an HP Mini 110 that has been rebadged as a Compaq (HP owns the Compaq brand) with the exact same specs and if the store you visit does not have a demo unit you can always try out the HP. The keyboard compared to the other tablet I almost purchased a few weeks ago is great. It has an almost full size laptop keyboard, so even with my big fingers I am able to type with little to few errors. The speed is great and there isnt a lot of additional programs you need to remove if that is your thing.

Very good netbook indeed, best bang for the buck!

Excellent Netbook, no glossy screen here, thus, you can see your display in many lighting conditions. This Netbook shares the same specs with countless more expensive models out there. It is the same HP mini with the Q logo instead. The speed is in line with specs as expected. Once you fine tune XP it works out very well. I bought two of these, one for my wife and one for my daughter in college, and now I'm thinking of buying one for me. I'm just waiting for the sale price again (you can't beat $179!). You just can't get any Netbook with the same specs for a better price. If you pay more, you're just paying for a brand name logo.

    Pretty nice for the price

    Posted .

For the price paid ($179 Black Friday special) this is a fantastic value. I have owned several netbooks, an Acer, a Dell, and an Asus and this is the first one I've taken the time to write a review for. The keyboard is a nice size and feel, It boots XP fast, was't too loaded with bloatware out of the box, and has a decent webcam. Don't expect this or any netbook to replace a full sized laptop or PC, but for what it is intended for (surfing the net, checking email, viewing and editing docs and spreadsheets) it works well and the size is very convenient and worth the performance trade off to me. I am very satisfied with it.

    Great Laptop..

    Posted .

I bought this laptop at BB online last Thanksgiving and from there you'll know that I got this at a super discounted price. I bought this as a gift to my wife and she definitely love it. She uses it mainly to access the internet and watch some movies so it definitely serve its purpose. It still is a fast computer even though the specs are not as loaded as a regular computer. This is mainly because of the pre-installed Windows XP OS. Just don't let anyone touching the screen too much. I observed that the screen is not covered with glass and anybody can damage it pretty easily.

    Amazing buy!

Grab it while you can because this is a deal that you should not hesitate on. The intel atom N270 processor is a very powerful commonly used processor in netbooks. If you are thinking about getting a netbook and don't want to spend 300 on one then this is an awesome entry level amazingly priced netbook! Pre installed with Windows XP this is great for browsing the net typing documents and hooking it up to your network to sync files with your desktop and printing wireless. You can easily upgrade this unit to Windows 7 and have it run awesome without anything additional!

    It's Good

    Posted .

Bought this product during the black friday sale, so the price was nice, $179. The only thing I have to complain about is that this netbook sometimes freezes if you're not doing anything on it too long. For instance, you leave it alone and leave to go somewhere else to do sometime, come back and it will freeze. But everything else is fine. The screen is clear, keys on keyboard is big, webcam is ok quality, wireless capable, ethernet capability, not heavy, and it has a very sleek design. If you need one for school this is a nice one to go with. =)

Great price especially for a 4 year old.

    Posted .

I bought the netbook on Saturday with no problem! No standing in line. I really did not think BB would have any left. At first I was looking for one that said it was kid friendly.... Nickelodeon or Disney however it is pretty much the same. It has the kids colors and some had the rugged feel to it but the price is around 329.00 (Dell) starting price. I did not want to spend that much for a 4 year old. This is the best price so far I have seen for a netbook! I am happy everyone in the family has there own computers. No more sharing.

    One of the better netbooks

    Posted .

After checking out most of the netbooks at BestBuy, I decided to purchase the Samsung Netbook. It was the most cost effective, six cell battery, nice keyboard layout, I soon tired with the speed of the processor, The Atom CPU just doesn't cut it. I bumped it from 1GB Memory to 2GB and saw very little performance increase. It was running Windows 7 Starter which was ok but I eventually returned the unitit and am back on my Dell XPS 1330. It may be slightly larger but the performance increase is day and night.

    Outstanding value

    Posted .

This was the absolute best netbook for the price. We paid $169, which was over $100 less than the competion. Very lightweight. Love the camera...works great with Skype. The only negative I have is that the documentation was somewhat difficult to find. I had to search pretty extensively to find out how to connect the wireless network adapter to my security enabled wireless router. I would definitely recomment this product (at this price) to anyone! In fact, the deal was so good we bought two!!!
