The Contixo F-28 premium GPS 4K Gimble Camera Drone is a small personal drone with a camera the takes extremely good pictures. First things first. This is a smaller drone and because of that, it is limited to flying when there is little to no wind. On a calm day, this drone is able to fly straight and level allowing it to take pictures in high quality 4K resolution. The remote doesn’t feel premium, but it doesn’t feel cheap either. It provides an easy way to take control of the drone and its camera and provides some good information on its screen. Like many other drone remotes, it has a way to attach your cell phone to visually follow where the drone is flying and where the camera is looking. This is accomplished with the Contixo app that is available for android and IOS. Set up is not particularly hard. You will need to charge the included battery and the remote before you start, then follow the instructions provided with the drone to calibrate the GPS and the gyroscope. Once you follow these instructions, download the app and sync your drone to your phone using the wifi connections, then you are ready to fly. The Contixo app provides many features including tutorial videos to help you make the most of your drone. Before I forget. The drone comes with a short USB A to USB C cable. This cable is required to charge both the battery and the remote. I tried other USB C cables, but none of my other cables will work. You have to use the one that came with the drone for some reason. Flying isn’t hard, particularly if you have flown drones before. There are some neat features like follow me, selfie mode, GPS control, fly to waypoints (16 different points I believe), orbit mode and it can do time-lapse photography. There is a lot in this small package. The included battery has given me over 15 minutes of runtime easily and the battery was not completely drained. The drawback to this battery is that it does take a long time to charge back up. This is a good drone for amateur pilots and photographers and a fun drone to fly.

At first, I had some major challenges. Despite following the step by step instructions in the user guide, the drone would not connect to my phone and, it was very unstable in the air. I calibrated the compass and the gyro multiple times, but there was no improvement. I had to borrow a friend’s phone and go to a large open space in a park. There, I recalibrated the compass and it worked! The flight stability dramatically improved, except this drone is not made to handle anything more than a light breeze. It could not handle any gusts of wind, but I was impressed to see that the camera’s gimbal kept the images level. Based on the unstable flight experience, I can say that the drone can handle crashes pretty well. It took two hard crashes before I got the compass working. The first was into a garage door, falling onto pavement, and the second was into a tree, falling onto a bed of wet pine needles. I immediately pulled the battery and let it dry out for a few days. It worked fine afterwards and I didn’t even need to change a propeller blade. In regards to the phone connection, my phone’s OS had an update this weekend. I reinstalled the app, using the QR code in the quick start guide, and finally got everything working. I can now confirm that the drone can connect to both major types of phones without a problem. Just make sure all software is up to date. Once everything is working, turning the drone on and flying is a simple process. The biggest challenge is waiting three hours for the battery to charge. However, flight time for me was better than expected. Even with the drone fighting a breeze, it stayed in the air for longer than the manual said it would. The range away from the remote is probably about 500 feet when near the ground and a little higher further above ground. When signal was lost, the drone climbed to a safer altitude and started returning to the takeoff position. When the remote reconnected, I was able to continue flying. The one challenge was when the drone increased altitude, the wind was much stronger and it couldn’t actually return home at the higher altitude. Camera quality is not amazing. The specs say it is a fixed focus lens and I don’t have any zoom control even though the remote has a control for zoom. The gimbal tilt is smooth from 0 to -90 degrees. The website says that a memory card is included, but it’s not. I had to buy one separately. The drone still flys without a card, but it can’t record video without it. When it comes to image quality, the video and pictures look good on a phone screen, but there is a lack of major detail on a computer screen. Considering the price point, I think this drone is great for someone learning to fly and do basic content creation. I don’t expect a professional photographer to purchase this drone, especially because it needs absolutely perfect weather conditions. Since it arrived, I have not had a day that was truly prime weather for it. I don’t know if it’s possible where I live. Bottom line, I would recommend this to a friend who has a responsible teenager learning to fly, or just wants a lower priced drone that still has decent features. I would not recommend it to a professional photographer. If you buy it, get a second battery since charging times are really long.

After extensive time trying to get the drone to work with my Android cell phone, I could not connect the two. I then remembered that I had a VPN running in the background on my cell phone and disabled it; I could connect to the drone. I must mention that the USB A—USB C cable with the drone was the only cable that would charge the drone battery and remote. Follow the directions to calibrate the drone. When the drone is calibrated and connected to GPS, you can fly it. The cell phone application has an automatic launch feature, which I recommend the first time you use the drone. There is also a return-to-home feature. Make sure you have a clear path back to home (the takeoff spot); my drone, on its way home, descended and ran into an obstacle. I learned how durable this drone is and to press the return to home button again to cancel. Once the drone hovers, you can start learning to use the gimble sticks on the remote to move it around your airspace. I recommend finding a large open field to learn so you don’t scratch up your drone too badly with crashes. Once comfortable with the drone, I flew it over our house to inspect the gutters, slate roof, and chimneys. We have a large two-story home, so not having to drag a heavy ladder around to do these inspections is very welcome. We also have tall old-growth maple trees that rise 100 feet or more, and I want to look for broken or hanging branches that need to be removed for safety reasons. In summary, the drone worked well. There were some issues getting everything set up to work. The documentation is very light, and there is little information beyond the basic tasks to get started. I use the drone for inspection around the home of places that are difficult to do without a drone.

The unit comes with a very nice compact carrying case that is well padded. This is my first drone so it is a steep learning code. I will be initially using this in a large metro area so I first needed to review local, state and FAA rules since I did not want to be fined or cause a major problem with aviation. There was a comprehensive instruction booklet that both my partner and I read and charged the units. I downloaded the app which also gave instructions. My roofer saw the device when at my house and he indicated that Contixo is a really good brand since they use drones for roof inspection and photos. So now the unit is charged and ready to go but we live in a neighborhood where we really can’t fly it in our backyard since we would quickly be in our neighbors backyard. We need to take it out to the dessert in an unpopulated, open area. Up, Up and away and we are flying the drone in the remote Arizona desert. Our objective was to not crash it the first time and we were successful. It gives you awesome views and videos/photos, however, this drone was quite complex to get it working. In the first remote area, it indicated that there was geomagnetic interference which we didn’t understand so we moved to a different location and played with the controls and then it worked. It will be fun to play with!

I have had a couple of drones before, but this is my first one that has GPS and my first for this price point. I have to say I am fully impressed and urge everyone else that is looking, to stop and consider this drone. While my plan is to give this to my son as a Christmas gift, it was very close to being a Christmas gift for me! 😊 I was immediately impressed by the carrying case and the quality of the drone and remote. Charging of the drone battery and the remote was a little difficult with the instructions given. I thought I could just plug it in and go, but it would work in my normal charger. I’m not quite sure why, but I did get it to work with another USB-C charger. So if you have an issue, check multiple chargers. I had some fun (a lot) “testing” this for my kid. Again, at this price point I was shocked at all of the features, which include: - 2K FHD Camera with stabilizing gimble - GPS features including the Waypoints and Home Return - Follow Me and Selfie modes - Many other features. Even with the time I had to try this out, it wasn’t enough. I could waste plenty of hours a day with this drone. I am sure my son will be the same. I can’t wait to see his face when he gets it! One last thing. Best Buy’s price on this drone is beating EVERYONE! Go get this now and you won’t be disappointed. I would definitely recommend this drone to the beginning and intermediate users. Don’t waste your money on cheaper drones!

Flies almost literally right out of the box

The Contixo F28-Premium GPS 4K Gimbal Camera Drone weighs under the 250g limit and complies with FAA regulations as well as allows you to fly without any registration. So to say that it can be flown almost literally out of the box would be an accurate statement. With a 3-axis gimbal, the drone stabilizes 4K Ultra HD video even in challenging windy conditions. The drone has several intelligent flight modes, including Follow Me, Way Point, and Orbit. These allow for hands-free operation so that video may be easily taken. The drone touts a flight range of up to 3600 feet and 30 minutes of flight time. Like many drones in its class, the Contixo F28-Premium is compact and foldable, easy to transport, has dual-frequency connectivity and support for SD memory cards up to 128GB. The drone app is available on both Apple and Android devices, and video editing is supported. In addition to the drone and battery, in the box is a black protective case with an interior designed to store and protect the drone and two batteries, plus an orange landing pad for take-offs and landings. For its price point, the drone is impressive. If you are looking for a “starter” drone, this would be a good choice based on its features and price point.

    GPS didn’t work

I was offered this drone in return for an honest review. The Contixo F28-Premium GPS Gimble Camera Drone has a long list of features including 4K ultra HD video from a 2 axis gimbaled camera, follow me mode, selfie mode, orbit mode, way point mode, and time lapse photos. That’s quite an impressive list, but unfortunately I was unable to test many of them. The first issue I encountered is that this is the only product that I’ve ever encountered that has absolutely no written documentation. At a minimum for an entry level product, it should have described registration and operator licensing requirements. I used the QR code on the box to find and install the iPhone app. It has a tutorial video that’s about a minute and a half long. Ok, I watched it and tried to get things working. It’s not my first drone rodeo. Unfortunately, after powering on and connecting, I immediately encountered “geomagnetic interference”. No matter where I went in my neighborhood, that error persisted so I was unable to calibrate the GPS. As a result, I couldn’t test any of the modes that required precise navigation. I was able to launch and fly it in non-GPS mode and it flew well and the camera video is stunning, but the lack of a usable GPS (I’ve flown other drones in the neighborhood with GPS successfully) means that I can’t recommend it.
