A worthy entry in the world of smart thermostats

Over the years I've owned a few different smart thermostats and with various moves, I've ended up leaving them at previous residences, only to land at my new home without the features and functions that I had grown to love from my previous smart thermostats. The Emerson Sensi allows for me to regain all of those functions in an extremely sleek and functional form factor that does not skimp on quality or remote access. The installation goes much as you would expect of any smart thermostat these days; you remove the backplate, screw it into the wall, and run the wires into the appropriate terminals in the backplate. It is powered by the C-wire from the furnace, which makes this a requirement of the install. Once this is completed, simply snap the thermostat in place and go through the setup. As far as setup goes, again it's quite straightforward, the app is easy to use and can control multiple thermostats (which is important to me as I have a multi-zone system, so I'll need to install 2 more of these eventually). The scheduling is convenient, and it has the capability of geofencing so if you're away from your home for extended periods you can have the thermostat drop into a mode that could potentially save you more energy. I really love the aesthetic of the device though, the screen is easy to use and read, looks sleek and modern and really gives an upscale view to something a lot of people dont think about. Overall this is a great and needed addition to my HVAC system and I'd easily recommend it to anyone.

This Emerson product is very stylish. The thermostat is illuminated and there is no need for batteries. I installed this device by myself and the video instructions that Emerson provides are world class. They are all very easy to follow and provide great information. If your present air conditioners thermostat does not have a "C" wire, you will absolutely need to make some adjustments during the installation process. Luckily the videos provide all the answers and guidance that you need to self-install this thermostat. Installation in my home took less than 10 minutes, so if I could do it, you can do it too. My favorite feature was the flexible scheduling and its remote access features. This according to the manufacturer can save you as much as 23 percent on your energy bill. In my own case, I have not owned the product long enough to see if my energy usage has changed. You can also monitor usage reports with respect to historical usage/runtimes and set up filter replacement reminders. The display also has a humidity readout. This thermostat really does it all and I'm absolutely loving this product. It is very reasonably priced as compared to other models, and in fact it has more features than its competitors. I'm expecting years of trouble-free service and hope to change out a second thermostat in my home.

I have had a 'smart thermostat' in the past and very pleased with how this one works. The app works well and easy to use. I installed this thermostat within 30 minutes at our vacation home - read/watched the instructions per the app. I needed one to help regulate the temperature while we are not there and have some visibility on if the AC/heater was on when it shouldn't be. Very responsive to app. It is also nice to be able to control when not in the house as I can set the AC/heater as needed prior to arriving in the house. Love the scheduling option which allows me to even further customize the range of temperature in the house when I am there or not there. Hooks up to Alexa (amazon) and responds to voice control. Overall, happy with the purchase and would recommend to others. Cost a lot less than your mainstream thermostats but has similar if not the same functionality. If you are looking for a cost effective way to control your houses temperature easily, look no further. Looks nice on wall.

Me & wife use this to replace our upstairs thermostat, so as we don’t have to walk up stairs to change thermostat. We use the I Phone app, change and monitor our a/c temp.

    Wifi Didn’t Work

Liked the unit. The display & thermostat function worked, but the wifi was dead out of the box (totally blind). Tried to call for support, having already been through all the online FAQs & tips, but got nothing but phone queue. So just returned it and got a Nest (no wifi issues at all).

    Could be a great thermostat

I got two of these thermostats for the two heat pumps on our house. My power company gives a rebate and yearly credit for using smart thermostats like this one that they can control during high power usage events. What I like most about this thermostat is that schedules can be programmed with as many set points as you need. Other thermostats only provide four set points (wake, leave, return, bedtime). But we like to super cool/heat our home for a few hours prior to our power company’s on-peak electricity time of day. So, we need an extra set point to do that. The Sensi thermostat does the job. Also, rather than only one schedule for each mode (cool, heat, auto) you can create multiple schedules for each mode and chose which one you to run rather than having to reprogram the one schedule each time you want an adjustment. It also has a geofencing feature that will automatically sense when your phone leaves the house and adjust the temp, then adjust back it when it senses your phone is back home. I’ve never use this feature but it could be nice if you are the only one living there. Now the bad parts. When you manually adjust the temperature, it goes into a temporary hold. Most thermostats will automatically switch to the programmed temperature at the set points time. But Sensi will keep the temporary hold for at least two hours. So, if you want to manually lower the temperature an hour before the schedule is set to increase the temperature for on-peak time, you end up running the AC an extra hour during on peak time because of the 2 hour minimum hold. Another problem is the display doesn’t seem to adjust properly for ambient light. During the day, it automatically dims the display so much you can’t read it because light in the room is too bright. The third problem is there is no permanent hold or vacation hold feature. So, if you’re going out of town and want it to hold the temperature until you return, you have to turn off the schedule and then remember to turn it back on when you return. If Emerson ever fixes these deficiencies, this would be a great thermostat.
