So I unboxed this a couple of days ago, but I didn't have any wine around the house. Since this was going to be a review and I like Two Buck Chuck, I stopped at TJ and picked up a bottle of red and a bottle of white. If there is any downside to this product, it's the instructions. Once you've used it, there isn't much to it, but the first time it would be nice to have instructions with words, not just illustrations with a short caption in multiple languages. Other than that, I love this thing. I took my time making sure I look at the illustration, then the bottle and wine system. It didn't take but a minute or two to have it operational, but when you're trying out something new with an argon gas cartridge, you like to have your ducks in a row. The one step I messed up on is once you puncture the cork, the next instruction says to quickly press the lever and repeat. I didn't pay attention to the bottle being held over a glass and had it standing on my table. Needless to say, it shot (dribbled) a bit of wine. I moved to the kitchen counter and tilted the bottle and repeated the lever press. Two presses and I had enough in the glass to sip. I pulled the insert up out of the bottle as illustrated and rinsed it under cold water. Works great. It comes with a nice box that's molded to hold the unit or it has a bag that can be used. I guess there is one more downside. I see online that I can get the argon gas refills just about anywhere that sells wine and the major online retailer, but Best Buy doesn't stock them locally, at least not at my two locations. Kind of a bummer since I can get them in 2 days from another retailer and not for 8 for BB. Overall, if you enjoy a glass of wine and don't like having to uncork a bottle and letting it air out, this system is for you. A bit pricey, but you'll enjoy it.

I must admit – I was pretty skeptical of a device that forces a steel needle through an unopened wine bottle and uses Argon gas to force the wine out. My mom and dad stopped by for a weekend visit so I thought it would be a perfect time to test it out! I had just received my Coravin Model 2 earlier that day – and hadn’t even opened it up yet. I grabbed a bottle of wine, the Coravin box and opened it up right in front of them. Mom thought it was a drone. Good grief. I inserted one of the two Argon capsules into the handle and screwed it shut tight. A quick flick of the pour lever allowed the system to purge itself. I clamped the Coravin 2 on the brand new wine bottle – with the foil still intact over the cork, and pushed the needle effortlessly down through the cork. Holding the bottle at approximately a 45 degree angle and pressing the lever, wine effortlessly flowed into the wine glass as my mom giggled with glee! Success! I poured her a glass, removed the needle from the cork and the wine bottle was sealed up nice and tight – no drips or anything as I held it upside down to check and see. Dad inspected the bottle and the single needle hole puncture through the foil cork wrapper. Pretty. Frickin. Cool. Cons – you need a supply of Argon capsules as each one works for about 15 glasses of wine (about $18 for 2). Why Argon? Argon has been used for year to extend the life of wines without tainting the flavor of the wine. Overall – very impressed. Clever design. Carry bag included. If you know someone who is a wine lover and keeps a small cellar of wines at home or you yourself have the taste for wine and like to sample from various bottles at a sitting – this is the perfect gift!

If you like a glass of wine from time to time, but hate to possibly waste a whole bottle by opening it and not drinking it, then the Coravin Model Two meets that purpose. It is easy to setup, the needle goes through the cork smooth and it is easy to pour a glass or two while maintaining the corks integrity on the bottle. However, for the price of the device and the requirement of the Argon canisters, I find it hard to bite. With proper practice to avoid waste of the gas, you can get fifteen 5 oz. pours per capsule. This then leads to some very slow pours as you realize that when you tip the bottle up you may be wasting gas and when you are about 2 glasses left on a bottle, you might as well open it with a corkscrew as you are guaranteed to waste more gas then. If you drink wine often and go through a bottle within a short timeframe, all this is doing is adding a cost per glass. Though I am not a wine connoisseur, I don’t think the oxidization is going to destroy the wine in a day. But, if you want a glass of a specific bottle today, and then a glass of the same bottle next week, this will certainly preserve that flavor for you and extend the life of the wine. Take note that this will only work on bottles with real cork wood corks and not synthetic or rubber corks.

Nothing to 'Wine' About, This Device Is Amazing!

Design: The Coravin Model Two Wine System is a beautifully built device. Upon opening the box, I immediately noticed the premium look and feel. It is not only appealing but also perfectly functional for its use. The clamp is textured and rubberized, which makes it easy to hold and clamp onto a wine bottle. On top of the device is a handle for pouring the wine and the gas release button is close by, so only one hand is needed on the handle and the other can be used to stabilize the bottle. Ease of Use: After opening the box, you are only a few steps away from pouring a glass of wine. Simply clamp the Coravin onto a bottle of wine, insert the needle by pressing down on the top of the device with your palm, pressurize the bottle at the press of a button, tilt and pour it over a glass until you have the desired amount, then remove the needle, and the cork reseals itself. I love how easy the Coravin is to use, and the only maintenance required is rinsing the spout and clearing the needle by pressing the gas release button after each use. Effectiveness: The Coravin Model Two is a unique device that allows you to pour a glass of wine without uncorking the bottle. The hole made by the needle is so small that the cork reseals itself, which provides several benefits. For example, you can sample wines without worrying about wasting a bottle. One scenario where this might apply is if guests would like to do a taste test before you uncork the bottle and serve it. However, the primary use of this device for me is to preserve wine when I only have an occasional glass in the evening. Being the only red wine drinker in my household, the end of the bottle always use to be subpar by the time it was poured. Now that I have the Coravin, the end of the bottle truly tastes as good as the beginning. Verdict: This device is not a gimmick. It truly extracts wine without uncorking the bottle, and the last glass tastes just as good as the first. The Coravin Model Two combines a premium quality design with ease of use and effectiveness, which makes this the perfect device for a wine lover.

Can the Coravin Model Two be both deluxe and represent frugality? This is a premium product in both feel and performance. It’s also a bit of an indulgence that elevates the home wine geek’s hobby. But, let’s explore the economic argument. Yes, I’m making the case that the Coravin Model Two is practical, perfectly sensible, and even economical. It’s a bit discouraging wanting to try a variety of wines, or share some favorite wines with friends and family only to have the evening end with so many bottles of wine only minimally sampled. The Coravin allows you to pour out one or two glasses from many bottles, while preserving the quality of remaining wines for later pours, sometimes months later. So, I can yield to my impatience while still preserving a future pleasure. Everything about the Coravin Model Two is simple and sensibly designed. I’m not a big fan of the pictu-instructions, unless the device is simple and sensible. The Coravin system works reliably and is easy to operate. The bottle clamp feels secure. The needle does no visible damage to the cork and the cork naturally reseals itself for subsequent reuse. The capsule fits into its chamber and keeps the assembly airtight. Coravin provides two argon gas capsules which they say will last 15 or pours, each. Th gas prevents oxidation of the wine. It all works. We tried it and liked it. It would also make a nice gift for the wine geek in your circle of friends.

Straight out the box this wine system looks like a torturing device. I quickly found out, it is quite the opposite. I don’t know what the first one did or how well it did it but I can comment on model 2. This system is quite exceptional. I’ve never seen or used anything like it. I drink wine once or twice a month. Once its opened, its finished in a couple of days because of the cork system. I was able to unbox this system and without reading the instruction, figure out how to use it. I did cheat and looked at a quick video without sound. But I had already figured it out, it was just for research. Super simple. Stab the cork, push the lever and pour. Well now you have a very small hole in the cork that you are able to reuse for future use. I don’t think the cork every is completely resealed..?! Drink the wine as you wish, no rush. The pressurized air capsules are small and will need to be changed often depending on usage and I think they are not cheap, so not cool. The ergonomics of this contraption is unique. The grip is odd but then again, this is my first interaction with this device. Depending on how much wine you drink, you may save money from not wasting a drop by accessing it with this device. Not sure. This is a one of a kind system, I say give it a shot if you are a wine drinker at the very least. It might impress a friend or (model) two.

The Coravin Model Two Wine System is a neat product, allowing you to pour a glass of wine without exposing the rest of the bottle to air. I was excited to try it because it would allow the tasting of multiple bottles of wine without having to worry about how long each would last after opening. The product is visually appealing with a dark graphite finish and silver accents. It would look great standing on the kitchen counter or server, but unfortunately this model does not come with a stand. Instead, a small storage bag is included so you can keep the unit and extra argon capsules together in a drawer. I checked the Coravin site, and some bundles come with stands, so I'm not sure why this one doesn't, especially if you're paying $300 for the product. The system is easy to use, although a few of the instructions are a bit vague. Inserting the initial argon capsule and getting the unit ready to use was straight forward and quick. The spring loaded clip holds the unit very securely to the bottle, so at no point did I feel like it was going to fall off or even move while I was pushing the needle through the cork. I did have a bit of trouble knowing at what angle to hold the bottle, and how long to depress the gas dispensing trigger, when pouring a glass of wine, but I managed to figure that out. I realized after the fact that there are videos on the company website that show how to properly use the system. It was nice to know that the bottle I just poured from was still sealed. However, on a different note, I also used the product to pour from a bottle that had a synthetic stopper, and after about 5 minutes of being back in the wine rack, I noticed it was leaking. This isn't a problem with the product itself, but it should be noted that this system will not work with synthetic corks because they will not reseal as natural corks do. I was unaware of this beforehand. Overall, I think this is a very cool product. It's quite elegant looking, which makes the absence of an included stand very disappointing (and yes, that's why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5). That being said, the product is quite easy to use and simple to clean, so if you're an avid wine drinker or just someone who enjoys an occasional glass or two a few times a week, this product is definitely worth a look.

Impeccable craftsmanship in a wine system

If you want to throw a fancy gathering and impress your friends with how vested you are in the wine scene, then you’ll definitely have bragging rights with this conversation starter. My wife and I were recently introduced to this wine system while wine tasting in Napa Valley. There were several tasting rooms using them to pour and preserve their expensive bottles of wine. To run this down to you for a better understanding of its purpose, I will attempt to explain in laymen’s terms my understanding of what the wine connoisseurs explained it to us and how it is used. Out of the box I would suggest reading the instructions. Setting the system up simply consists of inserting an argon gas container, two included in the package, into the device (see pictured directions) and removing the protective device located on the needle. The cork stays in the bottle of wine and the Coravin system easily pierces the cork with a needle; just ensure you follow the directions and appropriately seat the device on the cork straight as to prevent damage or bending the needle on the device. Once the needle is inserted, you simply flick the switch at the top of the device to pump small amounts of the gas into the bottle which then pushes the wine through to the device’s pourer and into your glass. The argon gas displaces the wine and the device itself provides an air tight seal in an effort to prevent oxidation and prevent the wine from spoiling. When you tilt the bottle upright after pouring, the system automatically stops pouring and disperses the excess gas. The system is very simple to set up and use by following the picture directions provided and is also very ergonomic. I could also feel the great craftsmanship and materials they used to design this masterpiece. This is definitely the highest quality wine pouring and preserving device I have ever come across however that is also reflected in the price, the only thing that may turn some of you off at first glance. Whoever designed this was definitely serious about their wines. If you are serious about your delicious and expensive bottles of wine and don’t polish off a good bottle in one sitting, this may be the perfect wine system for you.

This Coravin Model Two Wine System is elegance personified. Merely unpacking the box it came in, felt like an “event.” Although the step-by-step diagramed instructions were very straightforward, I considered them somewhat lacking as far as the detailed explanations I was hoping for. I found myself being somewhat intimidated by the gas cartridge and needle parts of the device. However, as I took my time and followed the directions, the device performed as intended. My advice is definitely to take that extra time to become familiar with every aspect of this Coravin wine dispenser, and understand what the instructions are telling you to do (and not to do). Features of the Coravin Model Two Wine System: - The standard Coravin wine needle is specially designed to be gentle on corks, while allow wine to be poured both quickly and smoothly - It’s easy-to-squeeze clamp has textured rubber grips, which fit snug and securely around the neck of the bottle - The unit comes with 2 Coravin (pressurized argon gas) Capsules, which protect the remaining unused wine in the bottle from oxidation, and can pour up to 30 glasses of wine - Included in the box: a Needle Cleaning Tool and Wine Bottle Sleeve This Coravin Model Two allows you to pour your wine without removing the cork, and ensures that your last glass will taste as good as your first.

I am extremely impress with ease of use. The Coravin system really works well. Directions are simple to follow. **NOTE** the cork needs time to “close up” after the needle was remove. I made the mistake of turning the bottle upside down right when I removed the needle and got a drop of wine on the cork (see image) If you have collection of wines but don’t want to open the bottle to drink a glass this is a MUST BUY.

I never thought that advanced technology could be incorporated into wine drinking. This wine system changes all that. Upon first glance this item looks very modern and advanced. You have to really make sure you can understand and follow the directions as it is not a pick up an go type of contraption. We used Youtube for easy to follow instructions from the manufacturer. Then one you finally get your hands on it to use really feels like a science experiment. It feels really cool to use. You clasp the bottle with the device then penetrate the cork with a needle that extracts the wine then replaces the empty air with carbon dioxide. Very cool. We poured 2 glasses using this system. Then almost a week later we uncorked that same bottle...wow!! The wine tasted no different than a completely brand new bottle. This is our favorite red wine so we knew exactly how its supposed to taste. This device really works! This system does exactly what it promises. It allows you to pour one or two glasses of wine while keeping the rest of the bottle absolutely fresh as new.

First saw this in Napa during a wine tasting and was impressed as to how it preserved the bottle without having to open it. We currently have a glass or two an evening and feel confident filling the rest of the bottle with the unit for future consumption. It's expensive but we try to use it only on our really good bottles... the cheap stuff we tend to drink all in one sitting :)

Designed to be compact, simple, and functional, Coravin's Model Two wine system checks all the boxes. The device is small and thin enough to be stored in a drawer. The secure clamp allows the system to clip snuggly and form-fitted around the neck of a wine bottle, though I would have liked a tightener function to fully dispel my worries that the bottle would slide off the device. It's packaged with a wine bottle sleeve (seems useless) and, among other things, two pressurized argon gas capsules - no pouch or carrying case, however, so safe storage for these is on you (Coravin does offer a travel case and a "Plus" option that comes with it). Functionally, the wine system works wonderfully. The provided instructions aren't the most discernible, but using the device is quite easy: simply clamp it to the bottle neck; slowly pierce the cork with the needle; turn it upside-down; press the gas button; and let the wine pour from the spout. The device is designed to prevent oxidation inside the bottle, so it allows tasting or full glass pouring and re-storage, without noticeable dulling of flavors in future pours. I tested it multiple times on several bottles - I found I was able to get three pierces into a corked bottle before it began to leak because it was unable to fully reseal. Cleanup is as simple as rinsing and drying the needle and spout. I would recommend a dedicated storage container or area for this device: while quite sturdy, it does have small parts that require some delicate handling. Overall, this is a device that should make any wine enthusiast happy. Full disclosure, I received this product for my honest, unbiased review.

Good product and works greats. Good for the $$$ bottles of wine to have a glass without having to drink the whole bottle. Also for side by side or vertical tasting for 1-2 people. Cost is only drawback, but for the ability to sample a pricey wine guess it is justified. Saw a review where the person said after 3-4 glasses save the gas and just open the bottle...chargers are also pricey.

I bought the Coravin - Model 2 as a Christmas present for my wife. In the past, my wife would often open a bottle of wine to brink by herself and we'd have to decide whether or not I would join her to finish the bottle, she would drink more than she wanted, or she'd put the wine in the refrigerator and drink it some other day (and not enjoy the wine as much on day 2 or 3). The Coravin has eliminated this (minor) problem! When one of us just wants a glass or two of wine, we now just use the Coravin to open the wine, enjoy the glass or two of wine, and then use the Coravin to store if for future use as if nothing happened. The process is easy and the the "re-opened" wine tastes just as good as the original bottle of wine. For those of you who like wine but struggle with what to do with an unfinished wine bottle, we strongly recommend purchasing the Coravin - Model 2.
